Crying over Name Change Difficulties

Hi all,

I wish my first post after marriage was my BAM (waiting on pro pics) but I'm at my wits end in tears trying to figure out name change issues at the DMV. I missed the huge warning on my local DMV site that said I needed to do a name change for my license within 10 calendar days of my marriage and I'm in tears. That feels so unreasonable. I married on 2/23, went to the SSA office on 2/26 and am going to the DMV Monday 3/11. I work M-F and had so much to do, I couldn't get there last week.

What on Earth do I do? I can't afford a delay because I need to get on a plane for work in two weeks (absolutely crucial, rescheduling is not an option) and already changed my name with social security. I'm so stressed and miserable. Then I realize I don't have everything for a real ID. This is utterly miserable. Please, PLEASE brides who have gone through this, help me.

I've never heard of the 10 day timeframe. I just went to SSA and DMV the same day and just changed my last name. SSA asked for a copy of my marriage license. The guy at DMV could care less. I just gave him my application noting a name change, gave him my current license and it was done. I had my new license with my new name about 6 days later.

Glad to hear it was less hassle than you thought!

It mystified me when I moved to CA and went to get a new license and they handed me a piece of paper. I had to wait three weeks before I got the license in the mail - they have to take away the old one when they issue a new one, even if the old one is still valid, and the paper they give is not actually good as a piece of identification. When I recently renewed/got the real ID, the DMV screwed up and I was without a proper drivers license for over two months. There are a lot of things I like about California, but that's not one of them.
