Could I be pregnant?

Delia, on July 28, 2014 at 9:58 PM Posted in Married Life 0 6

I have been stressing myself out all day that I could be pregnant, and I think it's making the "symptoms" worse. I have over a year left until the wedding, and I really don't want to start our family until we are married. I have been on the same birth control for three years without a single scare. I have not missed a day, or been on antibiotics, or done anything to screw it up lately. We have had sex with the "pull out" method, so with that and the pill, I know it is highly unlikely to have gotten pregnant. Still, I have gained a few pounds in the last month or so, my breasts have grown, and I have hard, sore nipples. It's nothing too painful or unusual looking, and it only bothers me when I touch them, but it's still making me nervous. My period is due in a few days, and it is highly predictable based on the pill. I'm still worried about misjudging spotting or something to be my period, but if it is on time, is it safe to say I am fine?

Well, if you really are worried, I would say you should take a test/go to a doctor after your missed period. That's the only real way for you to really know.

There's no way for us to know for sure. You'll have to take a test - although an early test isn't necessarily as correct as one during or after your period time.

    Amy,

Thank you so much, that really made me feel better. I don't want to do a home test yet because I will just freak out that it's a false negative. I am just an anxious mess lately!

I swear thinking that your pregnant makes the potential symptoms more noticeable. I have an ID and it got bumped last year and I was so paranoid I was pregnant due to that. I was completely fine - but mentally I was psyching myself out and thought I had noticed things, but they can be for many other things too. I know for me, my breastfeeding sensitivity changes throughout the month. It used to not be like that but I don't remember when it changed.

Definitely wait it out and see if your period shows up. Like Amy said, it's very common for your breasts/nipples to ache before your period. I myself experience this and many of my friends do as well. I have very irregular periods, so I often have "pregnancy scares." So-called symptoms (or phantom symptoms) are definitely more noticeable when you think about them.
