Did i have an engagement party?!?

Justine, on October 7, 2019 at 3:54 PM Posted in Parties and Events 0 9

Hi!!

I got engaged on September 19th and have slowly started making my way into the wedding planning world. One of the first things Wedding Wire suggests in the check list is to have an engagement party. The weekend after I got engaged, my parents and family had my fiances family over for a lunch where we had some champagne and connected with each other. Would you consider this to be my engagement party?! I would feel horrible asking my mom if she is planning on throwing me something, if she believes she already has!

I would consider that an engagement party. Not that this is super relevant but no one in my social circle has engagement parties so we just skipped right over that task.

It sounds like you had sort of an unofficial engagement party. Even though its on the checklist, an engagement party really isn't required. No-one offered to throw us one, so we just skipped it, while one of my friends had a huge barn party with 100+ people. If you are happy with how that family get together went, I would consider that your celebration. If you feel like you really want a bigger party that includes friends or other people, you could consider hosting one yourself (this is technically considered bad etiquette, but we almost did it and I think it's more considerate than expecting someone else to do it for you).

It sounds like a small engagement party, so probably. Engagement parties are optional and typically only happen if someone offers to throw one for the bride & groom.

Sounds like one to me! We weren’t planning on one but my mom wanted to host one for us so we held it but kept it small.

Well it all depends on how you feel. If you feel that the gathering was suffice then chock it up to an engagement dinner. If you want something broader then you can talk to your fiancé about it. Maybe his family can host it.
