Creative Rehearsal Dinner Ideas for Destination Wedding?

Haley, on January 12, 2024 at 11:55 AM Posted in Parties and Events 0 3

I’m having a micro destination wedding with less than 20 close family and friends and no wedding party. The ceremony will be short and sweet and will need no rehearsing. That said, we still want to have some sort of event the night before, especially since we've rented a house out for everyone to stay for the weekend. Our reception will be an intimate 4-course dinner party, so I ideally want to do something a bit different than a standard dinner the night before the wedding. I'm looking for any suggestions or examples of less traditional rehearsal dinner options.

I was thinking about hiring a murder mystery dinner game + actor as dinner entertainment the night before our wedding with a family-style meal. Any thoughts? I think most of our group would have fun with this, but should I include it as a 'yes' or 'no' option on the rsvp? Has anyone done a similiar activity? I'm trying to do a blend of traditional and untraditional for the weekend but don't want to stray too far off course.

The murder mystery dinner sounds like an awesome rehearsal dinner/welcome party! If everyone attending the wedding is also invited to the murder mystery dinner, then I think it's totally fine to include the information with the wedding invites (and allow people to RSVP to each event on the same RSVP card). If not everyone is invited to both, then I would send separate invitations for the murder mystery dinner and wedding.

    I like that idea!

Another thought is to do an event around the destination, and diving a bit into the culture of where you are. I was at a wedding in Mexico, and the couple had a typically Mexican party as a sort of welcome dinner. They had authentic food, like mole and fresh pico de Gallo and tortillas, and tres leches cake. Then a mariachi band came and played for around an hour and everyone danced and sang as the sun set. It was really special, and also a nice intro to the destination.

That sounds like fun! I had the same thought as Jacks of doing something connected to your location. You chose that destination for a reason, so I’d lean into a local attraction or style.
