Color Schemes for Engagement Photos

Mariel, on May 18, 2020 at 1:51 PM Posted in Parties and Events 0 13
Hi all!

Hope everyone is staying safe and healthy during these trying times. I am planning my engagement photo session with our wedding photographer in the next coming weeks. Our state is slowly going toward on reopening.
I wanted to know if any of you have color palate ideas in mind for photos. We’ll be doing ours near the water but at different locations. I liked the look and color of a white maxi dress. But am open to colored choices too! As well as ideas for color choices for my fiancé too
Any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks all ~

I think a white maxi dress would look lovely by the water or something red!

I think a nice white maxi dress would look so beautiful. I had 2 sets of engagement photos done. We did our first set in the fall and we did nice fall colors for our color scheme. Our second set of photos we did in the winter. Color Schemes for Engagement Photos 1

These are beautiful! I love the look of a white maxi dress, it’s summery and you can dress it up or down too. Although a few my other friends who’ve had theirs done already said not to wear white since the wedding dress is white?

I’m shy of 5ft and my fiancé is 6’1 I wanted to wear a little heel at least so the height isn’t that noticeable.

Thank you. I think for the summer time a white maxi dress would be nice, but I'd see if you could find a maxi dress that wasn't just white. Maybe go for one that has a summery design on it with a cute small wedge sandleColor Schemes for Engagement Photos 3

What about making them kind of kitsch and going for a straw hat look for summer? Kind of a wild idea, but if you're doing white and maybe blue chambray, hats would be adorable! Also, it sets a dressy-casual tone, so that they aren't mixed-up with your wedding photos.

That’s so true! I like the look of printed/floral dresses but with different backgrounds of where we’ll be, I don’t know if the colors would clash? But it is summer so I don’t think it’d be too bad. I’ve been looking at Lulus for ideas.

The white dress and the last one are probably my top favorites right now.

Our photographer let us pick two outfits for our photos so one of my outfits was a black dress and my husband wore a dark red polo and khakis and my other outfit was dark jeans, white cami and light blue cardigan and my husband wore jeans, white shirt and blue checkered flannel. We didn't have a lot of time to pick our outfits because of when and where we wanted our photos. By the time I knew the date, it was like a week before.

We are also prepping to get our pics taken in the next few weeks! They were originally scheduled in April, but we decided to postpone because of CV19. For casual outfits, I’m wearing a floral patterned top (ivory with blush, yellow, and deep blue) and jeans and FH is wearing jeans with a navy polo. For our dressier outfits, I’m wearing a royal blue floral maxi dress and FH is wearing a blue and white checked button up with jeans and Oxford shoes.

I would ask your photographer. I mean a good photographer can make anything look good, but it depends on your setting, their editing, and your skin and hair. I would pick something that makes you feel beautiful and then have your fiance's attire compliment that but not match. I also decided against white just because I'm wearing white to my wedding and wanted a different look, but I LOVE white and if it makes you feel pretty go for it!

I wore a short white lacy dress, and my husband wore a white button down and khakis. We did our engagement shoot on the beach, so light colors worked best!

Awesome! Thanks so much. We’ll be doing it on Martha’s Vineyard and the beach is nearby and a place we’d like some shots at!
