China

What is everyone registering for in terms of china?? Are you doing fine china? Everyday plates? Both or just one or the other? Pattern or white? I am stumped!

We skipped china and just registered for a nicer set of everyday dishware. They are white but they have a nicer design than the typical plain every day dishes we had before.

We just registered for a set of everyday dishes from Crate & Barrel. This was the set we registered for and received.

We aren't registering for dishes at all. We both have sets from when we were both living on our own, and they still look new so we skipped them.

We skipped both. I bought my condo 2 years ago, and my grandmother bought me nice black table settings for my place that Christmas. FH also has a really nice set of brown & black Oneida plates, so we're just using what we have and registering for other things! If I was registering for them, I'd just do everyday plates, though. My mom has several sets of super nice China and never uses them.

We registered for everyday plates they are a little pricey for every day plates but I don’t see the point in fine China when you only use it a couple times a year.

I’d think about how often you plan on using fine china. I personally prefer to have more contemporary dinnerware & kitchenware in general, that I will use & enjoy regularly & that will not be collecting dust somewhere on a shelf. I’m also not the one for grandma flower patterns on my dishes lol.

Also very important, fine china glaze, especially bright colors & patterns, often contain high lead content (and sometimes cadmium). So I’d pay attention to this when choosing a brand & design.

We got every day sturdy dishes in a pattern we both loved (mostly white with a colored, stone-wear looking rim). We don’t have a need (or space!) for fancy China ...but we did have a use for every day dishes! When we moved in together we both brought our own old sets that had chips and pieces missing — sad old incomplete sets, so we were happy to upgrade !

We’re not registering for fine china. I think it’s a very traditional, old school wedding gift that’s not done as much anymore. My mom has 3 sets of fine china so I know I will inherit one of them eventually. We’re just gonna ask for everyday dishware from crate&barrel

We skipped china, we are inheriting like 5 sets and I don't want/need any of them haha! We registered for a nice set of everyday plates, they are white.

I registered for an 8 setting white set that is around $250.00 total for everyday use. I am also registering for another set that is really pretty and has purple watercolor flowers on it. I registered for 2 sets of 4 settings at $175.00 each (So about $350.00). It doesn't matter to me that it's not "fine china" but I thought it'd be fun to have a separate set of nicer looking/pretty plates to entertain with. Apparently older people REALLY like buying china and "everyone" recommends you register for it.

We have our friends over for dinner A LOT and host all the friend holidays (Christmas Eve dinner, Thanksgiving) so it's worth it to me to register for the second set. If you don't entertain a lot, I'd suggest just registering for a set of 4 or 8 matching settings but they don't have to be expensive. Crate and Barrel has a great like "starter box" of plain white salad plates, dinner plates, and bowls that I really liked too that I want to say was like $99? "China" doesn't have to mean "old looking expensive plates no one eats off of" haha.

We are just doing everyday stuff that is white from Crate & Barrel. We bought our home about a year and a half ago, and had purchased 8 place setting on our own, so we just registered for an additional 4 place settings so now we have 12.

Just a small set of everyday dishes. The ones that we have right now are mismatched from when we were still in the apartment. Never really got grown up dishes. Lol

We are probably not going to do china, I'd like a nice white everyday set. Has anyone ever done Corelle? We are clumsy people and want something that is sturdy and won't chip.

We registered for a set of nice every day white plates. Neither of us grew up in a house that ever utilized fine china & we needed some new everyday stuff any way so that's what worked out best.

Oh goodness. I am inheriting so. Much. China. I wanted to register for good everyday plates but we ended up inheriting those too.
My parents got a really nice complete set of service for 12 people that's really an everyday set but end up using it like fine china, if I didn't have so much already I'd do that it's a great middle ground.

We registered and received our entire fine china place settings from Macy's. I come from the tradition of using fine china and silver for all dinner parties and will keep this tradition in our family. We also got everyday dishes from Pottery Barn.

We ended up doing a nicer set of dishes (see attached picture). They are a bit nicer than the standard "everyday" dinnerware, but not considered fine china. We just didn't see the need for it, and we've gotten a set of "hand me down" fine china from my grandmother. Even if we hadn't, I probably would have still stuck with what we registered for.
