Birth control question!!

Emily, on January 6, 2017 at 1:07 PM Posted in Married Life 0 30

Do any of you ladies have an IUD? Copper, Mirena, Liletta, or something else? I just got Liletta inserted this morning. If you have one, what has been your experience with it? Has it changed your moods/cycles/pain dramatically? I've done tons of research, and I am really happy about getting one. I think I will love it, just curious what experiences you all have had. Smiley smile

I don't know about Lilletta, but about a year and a half in with my Mirena, and I have no period anymore. Which is awesome.

I have mirena. I've got a year and a half left (have had the device in 3.5 yrs) and everything was "fine" until this last year. I gained almost 30 lbs and now spot almost every month plus a period. Not to mention the cramps are wicked sometimes.

That being said it's of the better forms of birth control I've had. I plan on having another one (maybe Sklya) inserted after we have children.

I'm having the copper (Paraguard) IUD installed later this month. I'm excited to get off hormones!

I have the Mirena and I love it. So far my period is still heavy, but I've only had it for 6 months and my midwife says it should stop completely within the next couple months. I honestly don't even know it's there. So much better than remembering to take a pill everyday (which I was horrible at...hence why I'm a mom now lmao)

I had a Mirena and it completely messed with my moods and emotions. I had it removed because I was just an emotional wreck. It caused a bunch of ovarian cysts to form (one of while ruptured; super fun) and I had debilitating cramps and it shifted out of position. I had a bad experience with Mirena but that doesn't mean that you will with your IUD.

I had the copper but it went through my wall. (Very uncommon, so don't freak), I had a cyst that was causing downward pressure of my uterus, so she thinks that's why it happened. I am not allowed to have anymore says my gyn, so I got the Nexplenon implant in the arm that lasts for three years. I've had it for a month and I love it! None of the same heavy bleeding, and it doesn't affect my moods at all. In case you're ever considering a long term non-IUD option.

I have had Mirena for almost 4 years and love it. I've never had cramps in my life and they never started after Mirena. I haven't had a period in all that time which is fantastic! Due to my hypertension and family history of heart disease and stroke, I am a little limited on BC options.

This may be TMI, but FH can feel it at times during sex. Also, depending on the positions we use, I do end up hurting for a short time after sex. But a heating pad fixes that in no time so it's not worth compromising what we enjoy or sticking with only certain positions for us.

Since your OB knows your history, she would be the most knowledgeable person to go over options. Mine had been my OB for nearly 5 years or more, so we discussed options in full along with what would be best with my patterns (cannot remember a pill even with an alarm) and medical history.

I have an appointment to get Mirena next week! Super excited! I'm hoping FH can't feel the strings but the doctor said they usually tuck them up around the cervix and they soften over time.

I'm a little over two years into the Mirena. I got it because I have endometriosis, and something about how it works helps keep the endo under control. FH can't feel it. I do still get periods but they're lighter. They're not super regular but not super irregular either. I have gained weight on it and I do still get some bad cramps, but not as bad I used to. Not a miracle worker for me, but I'm glad I got it.

I love my mirena!! No more periods after probably 7 months of spotting which wasn't bad at all. Mood is very stable but my baseline anxiety is still there (on Wellbutrin for that). Seriously can't beat 5 years of highly effective family planning!

My OB told me Liletta is the exact same thing as Mirena (just marketed differently, it's newer) so I will have the same experience as if I was on Mirena. I'm mostly just nervous about having painful or irregular periods. I have always had terribly painful periods, but I've been on the pill for a while to help with that. Switched to Liletta because we wanted something more long term (we'd like to travel and get masters degrees before kids). I'm excited, but so nervous it's going to totally mess with me. Haha. Every woman has such a different experience it's hard to know what to expect! Insertion was really painful for me because my uterus is tilted. I guess only time will tell how I react!

Just be careful ladies I had a really bad experience with it I gained weight and very moody.. my IUD went side ways is what the doctor said and I got pregnant with twins.. I lost one and at the time they didn't realize I was pregnant with twins the doctors let me miscarry for several days but I didn't stop so they decided a D&C would be best and made me loose the other twin. It was very hard on me and with my hormones all our of wack because of everything I went though it cause depression really bad with cause my divorce.. I would never want anyone to go through that just please do your research and make sure a 110% it is worth it!! it's now be 6 year and 3 kids later and now I'm marring the most wonderful guy..

I have had the Mirena for almost exactly 5 years and have been very happy with it for the most part. I had some pretty consistent bleeding for the first 2 months, but then stopped bleeding all together (except for the occasional spotting). Since I was anemic due to all the monthly blood loss I was THRILLED when my periods stopped. The only draw back is I get MONSTER cramps during my period sometimes! I am willing to put up with them though bc I can't have any BC with estrogen or I will throw blood clots due to a clotting disorder (nearly died the first time) and this was basically our last option (I tried literally everything else available!)

I have the Implonan in my arm and I love it. Can keep it in for 3 years. Hunty my cycles went from every month to once a month. And my moods are still the same. No cramping.

I have skyla (like mirena, but smaller and meant for people who haven't had kids yet). I got it about 2 years ago. The day I got it inserted was horrible. That night I got the worst cramping of my life, I was crying and would have gone straight to the doctor to remove it if they had been open. Luckily they weren't because by morning the cramps were gone, and that is the last issue I have had with it. I LOVE it. I forget it's there for the most part. I love not having to take pills or really think about it. I didn't have any mood swing or hormone issues, and it's the only bc I've had that didn't make me gain weight. I used to get really irregular and unpredictable periods, and now they're pretty much like clockwork, and overall fairly light, although they do last longer.

I had Mirena placed almost 3 years ago and I love it. I had no periods for the first year, then after a year suddenly had one. Freaked out and had an ultrasound cause I thought it had fallen out, but it was still there. Since then having fairly regular, but EXTREMELY light (i.e just a little spotting at the most) periods. Placement was agonizingly painful for about 30 seconds, then it was fine Smiley smile

It did cause me to have an abnormal pap smear last year, though- word of warning!

I got Mirena inserted 5 weeks ago and so far I really like it. I had my tubes tied so it's not for birth control but rather to control seriously bad cramps and periods.

I cramped pretty bad for the first week, then off and on for the next week. I've spotted off and on pretty consistently but nothing that a panty liner couldn't handle. I have noticed a slight drop in my libido (which honestly is ok since I was always asking FH for sex anyway lol). I just passed what should have been my first period since having it inserted and other than a little extra spotting there was nothing. FH has felt the strings twice in a particular position but he said it wasn't anything that bothered him.

I'm always team Mirena. Extremely light to no periods, minimal cramping after rough sex and hard abdominal workouts, and next to zero chance of pregnancy.

Getting it inserted hurt like a motherFUCKER for 2 minutes. Besides that, it's great.

I've had Mirena for 4 years. I love it, I still get all the symptoms of a period, but never actually have one. Like others stated, the insertion is pretty terrible. I had a really hard time with it. The first couple of months were kind of rough as well. However, I don't even notice it anymore. I've been thinking of getting the Paraguard next year when my Mirena expires because I would rather not have hormones.
