Bb&b Registry

Brittany, on March 26, 2018 at 8:58 AM Posted in Registry 0 43

We are going to be registering at Bed, Bath & Beyond this coming Saturday, and I was just curious about others experiences. I have registered for my babies before and remember a store associate following me around telling me everything I "needed", which was basically a whole bunch of stuff I really didn't need at all.

When I made my appointment to register at a bridal expo I was at, they told me the consultation would be about an hour and a half long. I was hoping I'd go to the desk, they'd set our registry up for us, give us a gun, and we'd be off (maybe 5-10 minutes?). Do they mean the whole experience will be an hour and a half total? From the time we walk in to the time we walk out?

We have lived together for about a year and half now and are very much established in our townhouse. Most things will be upgrades, so I really don't need to be coached on what to register for, and am really hoping someone doesn't follow me around the store doing just that. Please, share your experiences with me so I know what to expect Smiley smile

I did everything online Smiley smile we could take our time and anything we weren’t sure of textile wise we just went in after and double checked how it felt.
Most people who bought something from the registry bought online anyways

BBB a consultant followed us the whole time and tried to talk us into registering for certain things or more expensive items. We just put our foot down and registered for what we wanted. The couple of things she did manage to talk us into or we registered just to shut her up I just went online and took off or switched once we got home before we made it public on our website

I did most of mine online and yesterday I finally went to the store to kinda double check the things I added and make sure I like them. It was a great idea since I end up excluding a few things (they were smaller then I thought or the color was not exactly as it appeared to be online, I have also added a few little items. In my opinion the hybrid way works because it saves you time. I am not a big shopper so I think if I was to pick everything in store I would end up living before I was completely done with my registry just because I would loose interest. If you enjoy shopping definitely go and yes, you may spend about hour and a half, they have a LOT of options to choose from.

eta: In my case no, I did not have anyone following me throughout the store - I would ask to be left alone anyways, I don't like people trying to sell me things Smiley laugh

I did BBB too. It took about 2 hours for us. Our associate was great and he did lead us around but let us go off on our own a bit and then met up with us again after a few minutes. He did show us some things we didn’t want but he was never pushy and when we got home we just talked about the items again and updated the registry.

I didn’t register at BB&B but I’ve ready some posts on WW that described some very unpleasant experiences. However, I never understand when people say “they made us register” or “the let us...”. You’re the customer. If you don’t want to be followed, you can say “We know what we want and we don’t want a consultant with us.” If the insist, then leave. It really isn’t hard to say “no thank you.” Don’t register for anything just to shut someone up. Just say “we’re not interested in that item” and if they push, say “I don’t care to be pushed, we said no” or just leave.

I think registering on line is better anyway as you can read reviews. If you want to see the item in person, just go there and snap pictures of items and the tags and then register in line. You always return an item if you change your mind.

I registered on Amazon.com since it provided a wider variety of brands and items and we had the option of registering for things that weren’t necessarily household items.

We did ours in store. Our guy set us up, gave us the scanner, and then gave us a tour of the store so we knew how it was set up. While doing the tour, he pointed out some things we might want to register for. After that he left us alone but would check in to see how we were doing from time to time. We did some in store that day and added more online later! Just be up front that you aren't looking to do a huge registry as you already live together. We said that and also that we were also registered somewhere else in addition to bbb. I think this is part of why they were reasonable with us lol

I did 90% of the registry online. We didn't need towels or sheets or textiles so we didn't really put those on there. When we did go to the store, I wanted to walk it to try to find more things to put on the registry, they made me to go the registry station and have someone "analyze" our registry to see what we needed more of. I kind of took control back and told her I was happy with what we had, we didn't need fine china or $500 pots and pans. She gave me the gun and followed us for a few minutes then I told her we could do this on our own and we'd let her know if we needed help and she left us alone. I HATE being followed. I get such bad anxiety I can't focus.

I've bad 2 appointments with Bb&b. I set up our registry beforehand (using their guidelines and checklist ) but I needed advice on plates, flatware, etx. It was about 2 hours but that's a good portion of us talking a lot. She walked with me, showed me what I asked for and took me to things I had on my registry so I could see them in person. She recommended some things but I said I had a coffee maker, she didn't tell me I needed another one or to upgrade it. I scanned everything myself here. I'm sure I could've told her we'd like to go off on our own and she'd have been fine with that.

The second was 30 minutes, it was feeling our towels and rugs. She didn't follow us around for this one. She had other clients too.

My fiance and I expected to be handed a scanning gun and let go. We ended up spending one hour just getting the registry set up in the system (it would have taken me five minutes tops on my own) and then 2.5 hours being followed around with the consultant commenting and telling personal stories about everything we scanned. They took it upon themselves to scan about a dozen expensive items that we didn't want (We removed them online later that day). I personally did not enjoy the experience. We came back a week later with the app and scanned more items that way, so we could have some privacy.

I will say we set up our registry online before we went into the store and so we didn't spend too much time setting anything up before being take around the store. I would definitely recommend doing that. They did try to talk us into registering for China which was why we spent so much time up front in the first place but otherwise - setting it up at home first definitely saves you some time

Make a list of what you need and what you will be registering for so YOU can lead the registry. You will have a person come with you- that is their store policy. BUT, you can always either go online or download the BB&B app and add or subtract items from your registry. The consultant was good in going to the different departments with us and telling us about different items. Like, we needed sheets and our consultant told is we should register for about 2 sets. He helped us look for colors we wanted.

The app has a scanning tool too! So you can still have that experience.

The appointments with consultants are only when you WANT consulting and guidance. I think people forget that.

I originally set up the registry online. We set an appointment went to the store the girl sat us down asked a few questions got a gun and then she said we will start here. It took an hour and a half all together and we still didnt finish. I did the rest online. Or get the app once you set up online and you can go around scanning with your phone

I had already started registering for things online at bbb. And when my fiance and I went to our consultant appointment. They simply handed us the gun and let us walk around.

We registered at BB&B. It took us a little less than an hour. The consultant showed us how to do everything and then left us to scan. She came back to check on us because we needed advice on what was a good blender brand and toaster oven etc. She didn’t pressure us at all! I was nervous because I heard some bad stories as well.

I think it depends on your area. We had gone in a second time to finish the registry and we asked if we could take the scanner ourselves. They told us no, that a consultant HAD to be with us to handle the scanner. Apparently, couples were leaving the stores with them. But, maybe that was just in our area.

I didn't know about the scanner in the app! That would have been easier!!

Our experience was awful. We spent 3 hours in the store with the woman showing us EVERYTHING and we only made it through half...we felt pressured to add things we didn't really want but the employee basically made us feel forced to add. We wanted a more laid back experience but the employee was very pushy and kept putting us down for not wanting to add certain things. We lied and said we needed to be somewhere and so we had to leave. She tried to set up a second appointment for us to come by and we refused and said we'd be in touch (we lied). Two hours later I got an email confirming a random appointment for a day and I cancelled. We never went back to the store and we ended up registering at Crate and Barrel and Target. I deleted our BBB registry because it didn't have anything we really wanted that either of the other two stores didn't have too.

Thank you for this! I definitely think I'll be playing around with it online a handful of times (at least!) after we start it in the store!
