Average prices per plate for sit down dinner?

Adriana, on October 29, 2019 at 10:17 PM Posted in Illinois Planning 0 7
I don't talk to my side of the family and my SO's family had non traditional weddings (at home in the backyard type deal) His parents want us to ask recently married people (or people planning) what the average prices are per plate.

I don't have any one close to me who's been married recently so I figured ask the internet.

The place I found is around $70-111 depending on the meal. Is that pricey or is that average.

Thanks in advance!

I think that’s pretty standard. I shopped around and got $65 a plate. They also typically tack on a 20% service fee/tip.

Hey Adriana! Welcome to the community!

I think the WeddingWire Cost Guide will be really helpful to you for this one! Here is the National Wedding Catering Cost Guide. There is some great info in the article beneath that will also help you out!

The cost of catering can vary hugely depending on your guest count, the serving style, the type of food and ultimately, the caterer that you choose.

Have you found any caterers that you are interested in?

Do you know what type of food you would like to serve?

Just started looking. I only have one vendor in mind right now and that's the DoubleTree In Arlington Hts where one of my friends hosted her wedding.

I'm not picky on food and can any route that's delicious and affordable. Taste matters more than anything

In Chicago it’s hard to find anything less than $100 per person if your serving drinks. Without you’d be around $60-70 each. Down state I would assume is more reasonable.

If you have a tight budget it’s cheaper on Fridays Sunday and November to April will also bring cost down. I found non-traditional wedding venues tend to allow smaller weddings and more reasonable. And always check what’s included (linens, decorations, cakes, etc.)

Does that include alcohol? We’re paying $113 a person (little less depending on what meal they pick, that’s the filet price) and it includes passed apps, 3 course dinner, high end bar upgrade, cake, coffee and all soft drinks. This is in the suburbs of Chicago, and we got a deal for being off season
