Average Price for Engagement Photos?

Kimberly, on July 2, 2019 at 12:02 PM Posted in Parties and Events 2 62

Even though I'm 10 months out from my wedding date; it's always really bummed me out that we never took engagement photos even though I know we technically don't NEED them. When it comes to photos and my fiance it's like pulling teeth, he just does not like taking photos together most of the time even selfies. So he finally agreed to take engagement photos since he knows it will mean a lot to me. Since we're 10 months out though (Wedding is in April 25, 2020) should we even bother with engagement photos? What's the average price usually if it's not bundled with your wedding package already? Thanks!

We are getting married next June and arent doing our pictures until August or September or this year. I say go for it! Our e-photos were included in our wedding package but the average price I have seen in my area is about $500.

We actually took our engagement photos about 10 months out from our wedding - a full year after we got engaged and started planning our wedding. The timing is fine! As for price, our photographer charges $300 and that's the average price i have seen in my area.

We had our engagement photoshoot 4 months before our wedding! So you are not too late for sure. I would do it if e-photos are something you want. Price heavily depends on the area you are in & photographer’s experience (you can pay anywhere from $200 to $900).

Thank you! I really felt like maybe I was just too far out to take engagement photos.

It's definitely going to depend on your area and how long you want your session to be. But do your research. Average in my area is 200-250 but I found an AMAZING photographer to do ours for $175. It was only an hour, two locations and two outfit changes. We got back about 30 photos, 12 of which I love and want to use. So I was overjoyed!

ETA - definitely bother with them... I wanted to skip them but I am SO glad we didnt!

Yes, it’s very area dependent! We are in NYC & average for a descent photographer is $600-700. We were lucky to have our photographer friend do them for free, as an engagement gift.

As far as price, I cannot offer any advice, as our wedding photographer had the engagement photo session as part of our wedding package.

But for the timing, I don't think it's too late at all. We had ours done about 2 months ago, so 12 months before the wedding. But that's only because we're having quite a long engagement, and I just couldn't wait anymore!! Now they are done, and I have used several in our STDs, which are also done. Now I'm waiting to send them!! But I think it's never too late to do them!! They are so wonderful to have, and I've already framed a few and hung them around the house. Also, it was nice to get the full photo experience with our photographer, before the wedding. Now it's not so nerve wracking, as I know what to expect, and have a better feel for how she works.

Yes, It sounds like it was a wonderful experience to get to know your photographer before the wedding. We'll be using the same photographer as well.

We're getting married next March and we just took ours 2 weeks ago.
Not sure how long your engagement is tho.
I'd absolutely recommend getting them. Our wedding day photos, we will be in formal clothes all day long. And while we will look nice, that's not normal for us at all.
My fiance begrudgingly went along with this idea, and did not hate the experience or the photos.
I think engagement sessions can vary by area. Ours was an extra $200 with our wedding package. We have another well known that will do a la carte engagement photos for $300. But I'm also in the midwest, so things can be cheaper here.

Your fiance sounds like mine but I think he'll enjoy the experience once it's done and will see it was worth while when he looks at the photos!

I can't speak to price - our photos were part of our package - but we had our engagement session about 4 months before the wedding (of course we were only engaged for 6 months)

I was speaking with my photographer and he will be taking unlimited or as many photos and needed and our session will "last as long as we need" so he didn't limit it to an hour or certain number of hours. I'll get the digital images and pay the cost of prints we pick.

We did ours last month and we get married the day after you Smiley smile

Ours were $600 for 1 hour and full digital rights, but we got them done in Hawaii on Maui. If we’d gotten them done with our wedding photographer here in GA it would have been $450 for the same time and digital rights.
