August brides in Mass

Amanda, on May 12, 2020 at 12:19 PM Posted in Massachusetts Planning 0 11

Hi Everyone!

My wedding is August 2nd here in MA, it was in June but we postponed. I know we are heading towards reopening next week, but governor baker really didnt give much of a plan when he spoke yesterday. Any brides here planning on moving their whole wedding to next year? I am scared if i do choose to move it to next year and it comes back I will be back where i started lol. Let me know your thoughts!!!

I’m in MA too! We were supposed to get married June 12th in NH but our venue said that’s not possible. Looking to find a venue close-by to have a 15-20 person ceremony and maybe small reception but based on what Baker said I have no idea what the reopening is going to look like!
Originally we had a soft postpone date to 8/7 but I honestly don’t see any events with over 50 people happening by then..
Then we thought about next year but I’m still concerned so we haven’t been able to pick a date. I actually just ordered postponement cards to send to everyone so they know we’re still getting legally married on our date and we’ll keep them informed as to a new celebration date when we have more information ..so disappointing! Hoping Baker gives us better info by the end of the week on these phases!

Our wedding is in MA originally scheduled for July 4th. We decided to postpone a year due to our guest count. I think if your wedding is any bigger than 50 people and/or you’re not willing to cut your guest list down to that, you will have to postpone. MA will not be past the phase allowing more than a 50 person gathering by this summer.

I am also in MA! Our date is October 11th, and our day-of-coordinator and venue advised us to wait 2 months out to decide. I would see how early June looks, and see what Baker says for summer. I would also factor in how many guests you plan on having, and the location, regulations. etc.

Yes definitely! I’m gonna wait till the end of June and see what happens. My venue has said no one cancelled for August yet so I’m hoping we’re good to go. It’s hard when you read so many different stories lol, best of luck to you for your wedding! October will be beautiful!!

We live in Boston but are getting married at Waterville Valley in NH. Our original date was July 11th but pushed back to August 23rd.
NH just started reopening so hopefully MA can do the same in the next few weeks.

Giving it until mid-June to make a decision whether we should move to next year. We have 200 people so if there are still capacity restrictions we will move it. I know our venue is trying to get creative with adding additional tents so everyone is not crammed on top of each other for the cocktail hour and reception. I know N.H. said the capacity could be different based on the square footage and if it is outdoors. Also who knows!
    Best of luck!!

I know! That’s my fear is having to cut my guest list down to like 50 people, I would probably postpone as well if that turns out to be the case.

I agree waiting to see what happens for the next couple weeks, best of luck to you too!

Mine is (supposedly) August 8th. My venue says they aren't expecting to cancel any August weddings, but we'll see how that goes. I've been listening to Baker's press conferences every day, hoping for something concrete, and I read what they've released so far about reopening. It's pretty vague, but the first step doesn't include any capacity limits, which makes me think it won't include anything actually being "open." If that's true, I really don't think "normal" weddings are likely to happen this summer.

I hope things become a lot clearer on Monday. We need to order invitations! If things open as slowly as I expect them to, I don't think MA will have a huge problem next year, although things may still be kind of different. We've decided that we'll get married on our original date even if we have to move the reception to next year, so if it is a problem again, I think we'll be annoyed but not crushed if we have to move it again.

Yes same my venue hasn’t cancelled anything yet. Baker really gave no plans on what he is doing or what to expect so I hope we get some answers soon, other states are moving faster around us. That’s a good idea to still get married! Best of luck to you!
