Pros and cons of real vs. fake flowers? What have you all used and how did you like them?

I'm thinking about doing some kind of unity ceremony but don't want to do the typical sand/candle burning/tree. I would also love to have my fiance's 6 year old daughter involved as well. Any unique ideas?
