Is it tacky to wrap your bouquet in a colored wrap as opposed to plain burlap/white?

My future wife as I are on a budget and are trying to make center pieces and possibly bouquets ourselves because everything's crazy expensive! Anyone know how to do centerpieces without flowers without it being tacky? We're having an outdoor wedding...

So I'm trying to plan my centerpiece and I wanted to do something a little different, would it be a terrible idea to do table letters instead of numbers?
