Perfect wedding experience
We had our wedding at Yamashiro this past weekend and I can't imagine having a better and more smoothly run night.!! From the get-go, venue coordinator Sydney was a major pro. She was responsive, friendly and full of great insight on what tends to work and what doesn't.
The garden courtyard venue does a lot of heavy lifting in terms of being incredibly beautiful. But everyone was remarking on how good the food was, including the extremely popular sushi boat.
We felt very taken care of all night, and the staff were so kind and personable. I assumed we'd hit a snag or two, but honestly it was all pretty much perfect in execution. We feel so fortunate we were able to choose Yamashiro as our wedding venue -- as cliche as it sounds it was a completely magical night! -

Couldn't ask for more
Our wedding was absolutely perfect. Sydney, the venue coordinator, and the entire staff were so accommodating and helpful! The venue itself, is, obviously, extremely beautiful, and is on a hill that overlooks LA. The view is amazing, and anyone visiting should definitely bring a jacket as it can be a few degrees colder on the hill! (Our wedding was in September).
From the very beginning, Sydney was very responsive and accommodating to any questions we had. We booked almost a year in advance, which wasn't super necessary, but it helped us figure out our plans. As we got closer to the day, all the details fell quickly into place, and Sydney knew the answers to everything. We really didn't need to worry about anything.
The food was buffet service, and it was really great. There were vegan options as well as gluten free, so all of our guests were taken care of. We also had a giant sushi boat during cocktail hour which was very popular and I'm told was eaten pretty quickly! Sydney made sure that we were taken care of the entire time and was very accommodating with the all the photos we took in the garden. Honestly couldn't have asked for more from Yamashiro, all our guests had a fabulous time, and we will definitely come back to visit in the future! -

The staff at Yamashiro were amazing for the entire 10 month planning period. They were eager to answer any questions and fantastic on the day of the event. The whole evening when off without a hitch and I absolutely attribute that to Yamashiro's skilled and kind staff. Couldn't have asked for a better venue. -

Our wedding at Yamashiro was amazing! We were extremely happy with not only how it turned out the day of, but also the work coming up to it. Bridget was very attentive, answering all our questions, and also making excellent suggestions - she's a gold mine of knowledge for how things work out, so taking her advice was definitely key for us. She also helped us figure out how to run the ceremony when we rehearsed the day before to work best with the garden setting. The day of the wedding, Reneice also jumped in and helped coordinate. They both went above and beyond to make sure things ran smoothly. We can not thank Bridget, Reneice and the entire staff enough for everything! Highly recommend considering Yamashiro for weddings, it's an extremely unique space among a sea of wedding venue options =) -

Our coordinator, Bridget, was absolutely fantastic. She was prompt when answering emails and phone calls, and always made us feel like a priority, even while coordinating dozens of other events for Yamashiro at the same time. Our wedding day was perfect. All of our guests had a great time, and we wouldn't have done a thing differently. We hope Yamashiro sticks around for years to come so that we can celebrate our anniversaries at your venue. Who knows, maybe we even have a bar mitzvah in our future. Thank you to the entire staff for making our lives worry free during what could've been an overwhelming occasion! Alysia and Ben Weintraub -

Our wedding at Yamashiro was absolutely beautiful with incredible food and drinks, and (thanks to Bridget & John!) was a breeze to plan. Our ceremony took place in the beautiful outdoor garden and our reception also included the attached (and air conditioned!) skyview room with incredible views of the LA skyline. The food options are plentiful and nearly all of our guests commented on how delicious everything was. We were also thrilled to have Yamashiro create a beautiful (& yummy) sushi display for our cocktail hour!
The space and food are incredible, but what really made this venue amazing was Bridget Kerley, our day-of coordinator. Bridget worked with us for months before the wedding to ensure that everything was perfect. Since we were planning our wedding from Rhode Island, Bridget spent hours over email and on the phone with me to work out our menu, the seating floor plan, the day of timeline and countless other things (including saving some of the aforementioned sushi for my husband and I to enjoy after our pictures were taken!). Throughout the entire process, and most importantly throughout the entire wedding day, I could relax knowing that Bridget had everything under control. Bridget and her team are among the best and I would not hesitate to recommend her and Yamashiro to anyone looking for the perfect wedding day. -

We absolutely loved getting married at Yamashiro and got great feedback on the venue from our guests as well!
The venue is stunning and we were able to take great photos with the city skyline as a backdrop.
As for the team at Yamashiro, Bridget was such a pleasure to work with! She is detail oriented, super personable and worked extremely well with our day of coordinator.
The food also got rave reviews and bonus points for Yamashiro being very accommodating to our vegan guests.
We rented out both the garden courtyard and the adjacent skyview room which made for a really nice flow for the event and accommodated our 65 guest crowd very nicely!
Highly recommend Yamashiro if you want a gorgeous venue with breathtaking views, a very capable and dedicated events team and delicious food and drinks! -

We had our wedding at Yamashiro and could not be happier. The amount of guests who have come to us saying it was the most beautiful wedding venue they have ever been at was incredible. Additionally - John, Bridget and Reneice are AMAZING. They make it so that you almost don't have to worry about anything. The food was great, at the wedding Bridget handled all things that came up and still managed to always have a drink in hand for my husband and I. Her calm demeanor and attention to detail made this a dream. I highly recommend Yamashiro - it was so memorable and I can't even count how many people told us it was the most fun, best food, most beautiful wedding they have been at. Thank you Yamashiro! -

My husband and I couldn't have hired a better venue and venue coordinators.
John, Bridget & Reniece were absolutely AMAZING!!
I would hire them again in a heart beat!
They made my wedding a complete SUCCESS!!
They did such a wonderful job! Totally professional, great communication.
They were so responsive with every question I had, and worked with us through the entire process with no problems!
My guests were so impressed and so well taken care of.
We told them as they were the professionals, they could take control.
It was the best decision we made.
They handled everything and there was no stress. There was an issue with the cake vendor who really messed up the cake, however John and Bridget totally took control and remedied the situation in such a quick response time and so positive, we couldn't have been happier.
They are so knowledgeable with how to keep the flow of the celebrations going!
We've given their contact information out to so many of our guests that wanted to hire them for their own special events.
I would give them TOP 100 star rating!!
They dressed professional.
It was very hard to find a good venue, but they were reasonably priced and made us feel so comfortable.
I normally don't write reviews but I would vouch for John, Bridget or Reniece anytime!!
I researched so many venues for MONTHS and they couldn't even compare to Yamashiro Hollywood with John, Bridget or Reniece!
My wedding pictures and my wedding day was AMAZING thanks to them and I couldn't thank them enough.
If you want a non-stressful, totally professional, amazing wedding, you can't go wrong with Yamashiro Hollywood with John, Bridget or Reniece! -

The event team and staff of Yamashiro went above and beyond for my wedding reception. The quality of the service and food was absolutely outstanding. They make you feel completely at home and really go out of their way to make things as smooth as possible. Having our reception at Yamashiro was the best decision we made. It feels like family and that they care rather than just a regular venue that goes through the motions. -

I am so happy that we chose Yamashiro for our wedding! All of our guests commented on how beautiful the setting was. You really can't beat the combination of the Japanese garden courtyard and the LA city skyline! The food was delicious as well. The best part is that it's relatively inexpensive compared to most venues in the area. Our coordinator Bridget was awesome and was always willing to answer my 1 million questions leading up to the big day. I would highly recommend Yamashiro to anyone looking for a unique and beautiful wedding venue. -

All of the guests were raving about how beautiful the venue was and how good the food tasted. I especially would like to sing the praises of Bridget, the event coordinator, who was amazing! She kept everything flowing and made sure that we had everything we needed throughout the evening. My wife and I couldn't have been happier and more satisfied with John Bergano and his excellent service and attention to detail. From the first meeting, to the discussions and contract talks, John was always very professional and fair. We wish that everyone had his talent and work ethic. From the beginning, pre-wedding meetings and throughout the day of our wedding, John went above and beyond to make sure our event was special and handled with the utmost of attention. John is very experienced and detail oriented. He thought about and prepared for things that we weren't even aware of. He is the man to handle your special event and you better book it soon because I'm sure his calendar will be full in no time! All we can say is a heartfelt "Thank You" to John and that you can't go wrong if you are blessed with his services. - Celeste and Mark Kimura -

Being in another state I had to rely solely on e-mails and phone calls and the staff at Yamashiro's was truly amazing accommodating me. John and Bridget worked relentlessly to make sure I was informed and had everything I needed for the Big Day. John went out of his way to show my brother the location and Bridget went above and beyond by letting us borrow her personal steamer once we realized the restaurant's was broken. I could not have asked for better or nicer people and they truly deserve recognition. On top of their great work the food was delicious, the servers friendly, the drinks exquisite, and the location truly grand. Everyone had a wonderful time and we felt truly blessed for having such a beautiful wedding. I highly recommend Yamashiro Hollywood for any special occasion. -

On our initial request to view the venue (Yamashiro), John is very responsive in responding to the emails and phone calls. When we decided to book the venue, John was very patient in working through our budget and made sure we were satisfied with the menu plans. Briidget, the venue coordinator, is also very responsive and attentive to the many questions and concerns we had while planning the wedding. She contacted each and every one of our vendors to ensure the event ran smoothly. During the wedding, Bridget was on point with each and every person (vendors, wedding party, and guests). She lived up to her word and followed through with all that she mentioned she would be in charge of when the actual wedding day arrived. She was a great coordinator and did not disspoint us in any way. We highly recommend Yamashiro as a wedding venue, you will not go wrong with working with John and Bridget (along with the Yamashiro staff). -

John and Bridget did a fantastic job with helping us through our Thai wedding at Yamashiro. They were very responsive with our requests before and during the event and did a great job keeping the guests comfortable and supplying water as they waited for us to get ready as it can get hot sitting in the koi garden room with the roof uncovered in the middle of the day during the summer. -

THE BEST!!! B! E! S! T! I can not imagine what my wedding would have been like had it not been for Reem and the rest of the amazing staff at Yamashiro, Hollywood.
My husband and I didn't have a ton of money to spend on our wedding and reception, so we were trying to make it happen by combining a bunch of different vendors, locations, and rentals. TERRIBLE IDEA but we didn't know what else to do (because every beautiful place would cost and arm and a leg). WRONG!!!!!
Luckily, we ran into a woman who told us that she and her husband were married at Yamashiro two years ago and it was fantastic. Thank God for her!
The location is breathtaking! We were married in the Japanese garden (coy pond, delicate waterfall, blossoming trees) underneath the gorgeous California sky. Then we went out to the front and had our photographs taken with the entire city skyline (you can see all the way to the coast on a clear day like ours). Finally, we went back inside and it was party time!
Oh, and the food. THE FOOD IS INCREDIBLE!!!!! Reem will work with you to design your perfect day. If I were to do it again (and I won't) I wouldn't change a thing! -

I had a cocktail reception and ceremony at Yamashiro Restaurant. When we went to view the venue, we knew it was the one. The Japanese sunken garden was perfect for a ceremony and reception at the same time. Rent out the adjacent sky room and get your own private bar for your guests. The food is excellent and the cost isn't as much. All my guests had a wonderful time and thought it looked like it cost a lot more than it actually was. The event team (Alana & Reem) was very informative and answered any and all questions I had. -

Yamashiro has a historical background dating back to the luxurious glamour of the Hollywood glitzy "Hollywood land!" years and the oldest structure in California "the Pagoda" 600 years old. Breath taking! My fiancee first proposed here overseeing the city lights and we made this our venue choice away from the Beach scene of Orange County. It's perfect. Everyone was nice and accommodating. It's cozy and the Gardens with Koi ponds... waterfalls, dress up the Wedding with sophistication as the lanterns were lit and Jazzy music was played. Photographs taken at sunset over the trails is a must. It was a true night to remember. Thanks Reem! -

Reem was my event coordinator. She is so easy to work with, highly detailed and organized. Food was great. Excellent value for cost and quality.
Our ceremony and reception were in the garden court and it was magical! The bride's dressing room is spacious.
For an Asian-inspired, unique wedding, smaller guest count 100-150 I highly recommend. You will not regret it! :) Brides to be welcome to contact me with questions! Good luck! -

AMAZING! Alana was so helpful, always responded immediately to my emails and was so sweet and kind. The entire Yamashiro staff made us feel so at home and so taken care of. The food was INCREDIBLE and everyone was so happy. They made it really easy to get our centerpieces out, kept our cupcakes in the fridge so they wouldn't melt and every server had a big happy smile on their face all day. Hands down the view, which is what sold us about the venue. Not only does this venue have an amazing view of LA, the Garden, koi and Sky terrace room that we rented for out for our reception was beautiful and had a Classy effortless grace about it. We were happy to work with our two Coordinators John and Bridgett who made everything run smoothly. I couldn't be happier with how everything unfolded throughout the night. -

Worked Out Perfectly
We had a hard time at first deciding which venue to pick for this special day but glad that we ended up with Yamashiro Hollywood! The views from the top of the hill outside overlooking hollywood were spectacular and the main garden in which we had the ceremony at was perfect for our cherry blossom themed wedding. Additionally as a bonus we also got to experience the rain which made the ceremony ten times more special that day. Sydney Thompson, our coordinator was full of energy and ready to go every time when we had any questions about the event-- she was very professional, responded fast and made our visits (tasting and rehearsal) very welcoming.
Food was super delicious! All of our guests kept mentioning how good and filling they were! Wagyu skewers were a great hit as well as the sliders for cocktail hour (big!) Huge thank you also for accommodating our vegan guests! As a matter of fact, even our non vegan guests gave rave comments on how great the vegan Beef Bulgogi is-- you can't tell that it's not actual meat!
Thank You Sydney and thank you Yamashiro for a wonderful memorable day! -

Love the food and the view ! I had my wedding (both ceremony and reception) at yamashiro and everything was perfect thanks to the entire staff particularly Bridget and John. Stunning place, I cannot be happier with my choice for my big day! All of my guests were very impressed and had a great time. -

I had my wedding reception at Yamashiro. We rented out the courtyard garden and the skyview room. The venue was gorgeous, and our guests (including a bridesmaid from Japan) thought it was impressive. Admittedly, I was a little worried about how the flow of the room would be but there was no problem at all. I would recommend a good emcee who can help shuttle people from dinner in the courtyard garden to the skyview room for dancing (if that's how you decide to go). The space fit 115 people perfectly. I believe there were some restrictions on what you can do with the space because it is a historic building, but, honestly, I don't even remember what they were because they went above and beyond to make sure we could get the effect and atmosphere we wanted. One concern I also had was that choosing a Japanese venue would force me to have a Japanese themed wedding--not the case at all! The restaurant is modeled after a Japanese temple, but the plants and colors at the venue are very neutral, which goes with pretty much any color scheme; think woodsy neutral with many greens, browns, and grays. I ended up going with pink, coral, mint, and orange, which were beautiful pops of color against the neutral backdrop. This was much more appealing to me than a ball room at a hotel with crazy colored carpeting. The space is unique and "so LA" but in a great way. I adamantly did NOT want a ballroom, and I liked that it was not typical; it's fun and even a little kitschy but also elegant. I also needed a space that was also a great value. I looked at blogs, magazines, message boards, and did a million and one google searches and felt that this was the best deal. Because it is a restaurant, they do the catering onsite (food, linens, chairs, tables) so you don't have to worry about finding a caterer on top of paying an arm and a leg for the venue space. You're also guaranteed that the food will be good. Overall, we are very happy we made the decision to use them. -

This is an amazing venue. All my guests (most are local LA resident) got amazed to know there's such a gem in downtown Hollywood. It's up the hill and has a great view at night. And the Asian style courtyard is just so special and elegant to host a ceremony.
In the courtyard, they have all the PA system and a standing mic, perfect for the ceremony. And in the skyview room where we hosted our reception, we need to bring our own speakers and it worked out well.
Bridget is very helpful by helping us decorate the venue one day before, which saves us a lot of trouble on the day.
They have 3 different person to handle presale, wedding coordination and after sale. So for me, the valet parking got a bit messy on the day because we agreed to pay for the guest but that term got ignored and some of my guests had to pay out of the pocket or some returned and asked around. The toasts are not served in time. By the time we got the champagne, toasts are all done and guests were just using the wine glasses. It'll be better that they start to serve after salad is served, but maybe it's bc my guys are too excited and can't wait to toast :p .Other than that, it all went pretty well. Our cocktail hour ended a bit early, and Bridget helped to let the kitchen get ready for the food a bit earlier.
And the food that night is really good. My parents love both the salmon and the steak a lot! The steak meat is good quality. The salad is great too, my favorite. And also, for the dessert of souffle and icecream, my mom loved it so much that she finished mine lol.
We really loved it and feel so happy that we got our ceremony and reception there.

Very happy with Yamashiro. They took care of the reception only for us. It was great no stress and the guest kept commenting on how great the food was. Black cod and filet mignon are a must! -

Reem was my event coordinator, she was easy to work with since there were hardly any correspondence from the venue till 3 weeks before the wedding.
Food tasted great and was worth the price. The wine selection was fair for the cost and quality.
We had our ceremony in the garden court and it was great for a small wedding within the range of 40-60 guests, beyond that the court would feel crowded and uncomfortable (in my opinion).
Very nice skyview over Hollywood and Highland, absolutely beautiful when skies are clear.
The bridal room is gorgeous and holds 7-10 people comfortably. The grooms room holds 2.
Very good venue for a budget wedding.
Pros:
One aspect of Yamashiro's is that they are very flexible and easy to work with you on how you want to structure your wedding, from the ceremony, time required for hair and makeup, wedding ceremony setup, music, projection screens, privacy of reception room, etc. can all be negotiated with the venue.
Cons:
Grooms room was a closet that fits only 2 people. Valet charged the bride and groom for parking. -

I would suggest the portion on food especially fish should be little more as some guests tend to eat more than other esp it is hard to control people how much they eat at the buffet style. -

Really disappointed with the event coordinator
Honestly, I’m sad to write such a negative review. I got married at Yamashiro in August 2022. I had really high hopes with it’s beautiful location, especially considering the account of money we spent on such a small wedding. However, the event coordinator Sydney, was really terrible. She took a long time to respond to emails, didn’t answer most of my questions, and her answers changed depending on the day. The day before the wedding she was texting me, asking me things about the wedding that she should have known the answers to. She was asking me if we planned on having the ceremony there, after we clearly paid extra specifically for it. She was asking me about music, if I planned on bringing my own music… this is the DAY BEFORE THE WEDDING. I had to initiate a food tasting a few weeks before. I specifically asked about vegan options since I’m vegan and so were some of my guests. She brought out food that, we found out later, wasn’t in fact available for the wedding buffet and wasn’t actually vegan! The day of the wedding, she was nowhere to be found during the ceremony/cocktail hour. Our guests and us were standing around waiting for the cocktails and appetizers to be served. There was nothing going on until my sister found the manager and asked him where is the service we paid for. I found out later that Sydney was giving a tour of the restaurant to other potential clients during that time. And, one of the most disappointing things noted that day, was during the reception my guests were trying to tip the bartender and staff, but they saw Sydney taking their tips. I find that absolutely unacceptable, considering we paid an extra fee for Sydney. She shouldn’t be taking tips from the staff serving us. In conclusion, the location is incredible, one of the best in LA, however, a bad event coordinator can really add extra stress to an event that is already extremely stressful. I got incredible photos, but I would warn anyone from having their wedding there as long as Sydney is their event coordinator. -

Would not recommend due to the coordinator
When I started planning I wanted to find a venue that could offer an all in one package for a small ceremony, cocktail hour, and dinner reception. Yamashiro seemed like a great fit at first, but the actual experience was stressful due to the in-house event manager, Sydney, who you're required to coordinate with. Communication and actual planning was very limited on her end. Sydney never answered the phone or returned voicemails. The first time we talked to her was at our tasting (which we initiated). When emailing questions almost every time she would half answer one or two and ignore the rest. As another reviewer mentioned, her answers would change day by day when asking her about things like whether we could play music, do speeches, etc... Despite it being in our contract and discussing in detail, there were at least three times when she made it seem like she didn't expect us to do the ceremony at the venue. We were nervously waiting for the other shoe to drop and find out she had double booked us or something. She/the venue also tried to casually increase the pricing a couple months before the wedding and backtracked when we referred to our contract.
She ended up not even coming on the actual wedding day, which honestly made me more relieved than anything. She never neglected to mention how she was busy coordinating other, much larger events than ours. When we arrived at Yamashiro at the time we arranged with Sydney, the doors were locked and we had to wait for the staff to arrive. In addition, there was construction blocking out sections of the venue and Halloween decorations everywhere, something she didn't mention would be there (we worked around them for our photos). We had to spend time fishing pumpkins and plastic body parts out of the bushes of the ceremony garden. The rest of the wedding went pretty smoothly. The restaurant manager, Tyler, was super helpful and the rest of the staff was great. Everyone especially loved the bartender, Jordan. However I would never recommend Yamashiro as a wedding venue to anyone with Sydney coordinating. -
