Wiseacre is one of a kind! Inside is a museum of my generation's childhood and outside is breathtaking with the views. We had the privilege of having our daughter's wedding at Wiseacre in September and it was just perfect. There wasn't a moment we didn't feel welcomed and comfortable and even our vendors expressed the same feelings. Our caterer was "in heaven" with the kitchen and our photographer was excited about "making art" at such a whimsical, beautiful venue. We can't wait to visit again! -

As I sit here 1 week from the day I got to say “I Do” I am still in awe and at a loss for words at just how magnificent last Saturday turned out. If you don’t live in Hampton Roads Virginia you may not understand so let me explain (sit back and grab a coffee because the story is worth it). Last week Hurricane Ian hit Florida and its storm path was taking it right up the east coast, set to hit Hampton Roads, Virginia at its worst on Saturday…. My wedding day. Now I’m not completely shocked that a hurricane was set to hit my wedding weekend because of our luck and that October is in the middle of hurricane season however, I was not expecting a category 5 hurricane double the size of the last major hurricane to follow this particular path which took place back in 2004. When we booked our venue back In January 2021 Chuck had discussed with us all of the possibilities and options regarding backup plans for inclement weather. From the beginning, Chuck and his assistant Geoff have been straight with us, something we valued and wanted from a venue host. When planning our wedding we kept in mind that if the guest count was small enough we would be able to move our outdoor wedding inside and still have a beautiful event so we kept our guest count small enough to be able to move inside JUST IN CASE. Knowing Chuck was flexible and more than willing to rearrange his whole great room so that I could get married inside gave me peace of mind and so, as we followed the storm and vendor calls started to flood in I didn’t panic as much as I would have and that was the first of many comforts Chuck was able to give to me. He called me Tuesday and very calmly said look I just don’t see it happening outside but rest assured we will make sure you have a beautiful day inside and you will love it. He reassured me that everything would be okay and that he would see us Friday for the rehearsal dinner. Friday was a full-blown Nor’easter, winds hit 30mph it was cold and rain was just being dumped on the area. Having the most amazing family and friends a couple could ask for everyone showed up to the rehearsal dinner at Wiseacre where Chuck and Geoff welcomed us with open arms. During dinner, the house lost power but due to Chuck's Planning he had a generator ready and the whole house was back on and ready to party in less than a minute. He has the best generator in the neighborhood I swear because the other houses around with one weren’t so lucky. Now I don’t know if it was prayers, people's tears, or the numerous rain dances that may or may not have taken place around midnight to the rain gods and any other weather god that was watching but when we woke up Saturday morning the weather was perfect. The sun was shining, the sky was clear and the temperature was spot-on. At 11 o’clock – noon, I nervously went to Chuck and my coordinator and asked if there was any possible way the (4:30 pm) wedding could be moved outside. They went outside where the ground was by some miracle, not a mud pile Chuck said give me an hour. Next thing I knew Geoff had a rake in hand and Chuck was on a riding lawnmower clearing the 3-acre outdoor lawn without any hesitation. By the time the guests arrived, you would’ve never known a nor’easter as hit the day before. My wedding took place outside just as I had dreamed and it went magnificently. This was a long, wordy review to tell you that I have never worked with a venue so willing to bend over backward just to ensure an event went as dreamed. Chuck was prepared for literally everything and for the things out of his control he had backup plans and solutions. He kept a smile on his face the entire time, went above and beyond to make sure my vision came true, never said “no” to me, and looked mighty fine in his suit too! If you’re searching for a dependable venue then your search can stop here because this is the place you need to be. The perfect wedding venue
Wiseacre is the perfect place for a wedding. We got married here on August 27,2022. Chuck and Geoff were exceptionally helpful. My family loved them both! If you’re looking for a place for excellent scenery, Wiseacre is the place for you! We stayed for the weekend and felt like we were at home! Chuck is such a people person, I think hosting weddings at his home was perfect for him. We can’t thank you enough for a great weekend! -

Rare, unique, eccentric
OMG!!! I love to find hidden gems & wiseacres estates is the biggest hidden gems of Virginia Beach/ Norfolk area! To be an Airbnb/VENUE is absolutely everything and more. Chuck is the kindest soul you’ll every meet. From the time you start the process to the end he spreads love and light. With a million dollar smile and an amazing view of water surrounding the 2 acres of land he has, I just could not get enough of it. I am blessed to have found this hidden gem in a short amount of time. Highly recommend for any occasion. Thank you Chuck for being such a great host. Peace & love - the Austin’s -

A Dream come true
Our vow renewal was so beautiful from the backdrop to the special care Chuck took with us and our guests. The Wiseacre Estate family helped make our day stress free as the stepped up and took on roles we didn't even expect. I highly recommend this establishment for your wedding or vow renewal. -

The moment I saw Wiseacre, I know it’s where I wanted to get married at. Right up until the day of the wedding, I planned for everything to be outside with the gorgeous view of the lake. However for some reason, this one Saturday in March decided to have a tornado warning, torrential down pour, SNOW and wind that you could hear whistling through the house. So that morning we decided to move everything inside and Chuck knew exactly the plan for us to still enjoy our day. Being able to stay at Wiseacre the entire weekend was such a blessing because I never had to worry about what was happening or if I would be late, we had our rehearsal dinner there and it was awesome to have everything in one place, no rushing around. Although the day went nothing like planned, it was the most amazing day and we will forever be grateful to all the people that came together to create a beautiful wedding. -

Me and my wife definitely had a great time at Wiseacre Estate. This was the perfect place to have our wedding and reception. It was plenty of space for our special moment. Chuck and Geoff definitely were humorous, caring, and devoted to making sure everything went well and on time. It has a spot for the DJ, kitchen, and a Bar area. The outside view and landscape were great as well. The atmosphere with Chuck and Geoff is like family and like we knew them forever. Me and my wife recommend Wiseacres Estate to all. This is the perfect place to host events at, breakfast in bed, or an AirBnB. I give it 5 Stars out of 5 Stars and if I could give them 10 Stars I would. Thank you Chuck and Geoff for the great experience.

Our time at Wiseacre was phenomenal to say the least . We had our wedding there November 13th . Not only do you get to have it from Friday at 2 to Sunday at 11, but Chuck and Geoff were exceptional . Honestly from the moment you meet them you feel you have known them forever . The house is one of the most awesome places you will encounter with the pictures , the statues and of course the moose ! The grounds are breath taking especially with the fall leaves we got to enjoy . The ground had space for our tent and guests , a swing for the kids and space to mingle . Chuck and Geoff I can’t thank enough . Honestly they were like long lost uncles. You need a marker ? A light bulb , a bucket ? They are your guys . The last person I asked before I went down the aisle if I looked ok was Chuck and he gave me the go ahead look and nod that I needed to ease my nerves . These two are so hospitable and I hope to have many more gatherings there . The pics online don’t do it justice . It’s so much more gorgeous then words can say . If ever you are unsure where to go for a party , special event or wedding look no further because this is your place ❤️ -

There simply aren't enough euphemisms or cliches to describe the importance of our decision to wed at Wiseacre but I will attempt it! First of all, Chuck and Geoff went above and beyond time and time again to ensure every detail was to my liking and that everything flowed smoothly. It's positively astounding how Chuck has managed to turn that estate into such a serene retreat so close to the airport. I arrived with jangled nerves on Friday night and by Sunday I was blissfully relaxed.
Chuck is familiar with most of the area's vendors, so he could jump in and communicate on our behalf in an intimate, direct way with them. He has developed a rapport and trust with those vendors so when we said we were marrying at Wiseacre, our vendors sighed a happy sigh and said, "Oh, that's perfect!" because they knew and trusted Chuck.
The home and grounds are beautiful, unique, and impeccably maintained. There is a great backdrop for photos around every corner! We married under a tree by the water's edge at sunset, and even the photos captured on some guest's phones are remarkable.
The value of having a venue for the entire weekend can NOT be overstated. Instead of rushing to set up, decorate, then get dressed....it simply wouldn't have been possible to create my vision at any other venue. I woke at sunrise the morning of, took a walk around and sat with my future husband and talked, had coffee and leisurely decorated without stressing.
When things got close to the bewitching hour, Chuck was magically present at every moment with a safety pin, tissue, phone charger....everything we needed was just...there! He's thought of everything and has a way of being always there when you need him and quietly disappearing when someone needs a moment (teenager crying hysterically) or an intimate discussion is needed. Oh, how critical that quality is in a host! Chuck has mastered discernment.
I can't imagine having such an important day anywhere else. It was perfect for us and if you've checked out the pictures and you're reading this, chances are it's perfect for you too. I simply cannot recommend it enough! Wiseacre (Chuck) MADE our wedding! -

Pure magic
My husband and I booked Wiseacre for our wedding weekend this past September and had a ten star experience. We had previously scoured what seemed like every venue in the Hampton Roads area (and even beyond), but nothing quite fit all of our needs. When we found Wiseacre, we fell in love and booked on the spot. The lakeside property is stunning and the house is brimming with eclectic charm. The whole weekend felt like a whimsical fairytale. Most importantly, however, Chuck, Geoff, and Bob were a true dream team to work with. They were professional, fun, and incredibly accommodating throughout our entire experience. By the time we left they felt like family! Thank you you to the Wiseacre crew for making our wedding one of the best memories of our lives! We will definitely be back for future celebrating! -

Chuck & Geoff we’re so understanding and amazing!! Last minute we had to change our ceremony from being outside to inside the Wiseacre estate and Chuck and Geoff worked it out! Chuck’s space is so versatile. We received so many compliments on how unique and beautiful the space was. I definitely recommend doing a 3 or 4 day stay. We did our bachelor bachelorette party here, rehearsal dinner, a day just for the two of us, and then brunch with both families. We had a great time and so many memories were created that we will cherish for a lifetime. Thank you Chuck and Geoff! -

I’ve been waiting months to write this review. From the moment we spoke to Chuck to touring the location, I knew we made the perfect decision. Wiseacre provided the perfect backdrop to our special day. It was the perfect mixture of elegance and home all in one location. Chuck and Geoff were amazing! From the moment we checked in, we were made to feel at home. Chuck made it clear that this was our space for the weekend. Our wedding day was pure chaos (good chaos), but Chuck and Geoff jumped right in to help wherever they could, even calming my nerves a few times. We opted to stay until Monday morning, which was the best. It allowed us time to decompress from the crazy of Saturday and clean up without having to rush. We definitely enjoyed every second of our time at Wiseacre and would use this location for any future events. Thank you Chuck for your hospitality!!!Wiseacre Estate's reply:

Wise Acre is the perfect venue! It’s beautiful and it comes with Chuck! He is so helpful! Not to mention funny! And he put up with my family, which can be hard to do! All of my guests had a great time and complimented us for choosing wiseacre. It was a lot of fun having the bridal parties hair and makeup done there too! So glad we went with it! Wiseacres is a dreamy place with a scenery and view that is top notch. Really amazing to be able to have a wedding venue for a weekend. Really nice to be able to enjoy the wedding weekend with family and friends. The inside ballroom is fabulous and the outdoor space is amazing. It is surrounded by water and a magical place! -

The perfect spot for a wedding
We had our pandemic wedding here and can’t express enough how amazing a venue this is! The view is spectacular (there was even a rainbow), the house is beautiful and eclectic, and Chuck was the absolute best host ever. He was friendly, helpful, and accommodating. You can tell he genuinely enjoys hosting events at his house and my guests were smitten with him! One engaged couple at our wedding expressed an interest in having their wedding at a Wiseacre too and we strongly encouraged them to do so. This is the perfect location and perfect host to give you the best wedding ever! -

What an amazing experience!
The moment I arrived at Wiseacre to look at the property for our wedding I knew this was the place for us! The views are breath taking, the house is beautiful with lots of neat things all around, and Chuck is just one of a kind.
We had to reschedule our original wedding date due to Covid but Chuck made the transition as smooth as possible. He was extremely helpful changing dates, giving advice for every change that had to be made and ultimately helped our wedding day run as smooth as possible.
Wiseacre has so much to offer a beautiful house that is perfect for spending time with family, getting ready the day of the wedding, plenty of room for catering and a bar. The property is gorgeous, spacious and peaceful.
If you're looking for a beautiful outdoor venue with a sweet host like Chuck this is the place for you! I can never thank Chuck enough for all of his help making our wedding the best day ever. He is truly one of a kind and will feel like you gain a new family member before you leave. -

Look no further, this is the place to have your wedding, no question.
With Wiseacre, you're getting more than just the amazing lake view, the phenomenal architecture, and the eclectic art. You're also getting Chuck Taylor as the man who runs it. Chuck can offer just his hospitality services alone and it'd be worth every penny. But the fact that he comes with Wiseacre makes this venue feel like a steal. I sincerely can't even imagine a more perfect place for my wife and I to have had our wedding.
Nitty Gritty details:
We had the venue from Fri afternoon- Mon morning, hosting our rehearsal dinner, wedding, and reception all on site.
Having our rehearsal on site gave such an invaluable peace of mind. We were able to see exactly how our ideas for the wedding day would be implemented and if they'd be effective. We were able to have everything set up at our own pace, and preference, and we were able to break everything down after the wedding day the same way. I can't overstate how vital that was for our own sanity!
Chuck has blueprints of the spaces, allowing for you to be able to meticulously plan and figure out how you would like to set everything up.
The pricing was very reasonable, and incredibly upfront. No hidden fees, no service charges, none of that. Whatever you think you're gonna pay is exactly what you end up paying. That transparency was awesome, and allowed for us to be able to more correctly budget everything else.
Since Chuck is worthy enough as a stand alone service, I'll throw in a little review of him as well.
Chuck is, for lack of a better word, perfect.
He was part Butler/Friend/Host/Chameleon/Therapist.
I imagine what every couple planning their wedding needs.
He's in the background, blending into everything, helping things run smoothly during the big day, he's the man with so many answers and helpful hints/suggestions during the planning process, and also just a great human being to have as a part of the nightmare that is planning a wedding. I can't say enough nice things about him and his beautiful home.

From the moment we first met with Chuck, we knew this was the place for our wedding reception. Our wedding was 11/2/19 at Botanical Garden, 4 minutes away from Wiseacre!!! How perfect! Everyone absolutely loved the scenery, Chuck, and his warming hospitality. We stayed the night of our wedding as well. Thank you, Chuck!!! - The Lawrences -

We had our wedding last year at wiseacre and we couldn't have been happier. We wanted a wedding that fit our personalities and wiseacre fit all categories. We wanted a relaxing evening where everyone could dress down a little and not feel out of place. The wiseacre location is perfect due to the fact we had family and friends coming from all around. Being so close to the airport and main highways was a perfect place. On the day of our wedding it rained for about 15 minutes but all of our vendors were outside prepping and wiping chairs down so our quests could be dry when the ceremony began. The rain stopped and it turned out to be a beautiful evening by the time our wedding began. Our vendors worked together and alongside chuck to make our day fantastic and memorable. We still have friends and family that talk highly of that night and how unique it was.
There were a couple negatives that we will share in case you are thinking about wiseacre. First and foremost, let me say chuck and his team are great. That being said, Chuck can be a lot. We had multiple local vendors and a wedding coordinator and everyone was communicating well with each other on the day of aside from Chuck. While we were taking pictures with immediate family and the vendors were prepping, chuck was walking around asking us questions as if we didn't have a coordinator. Multiple times during the evening we had to remind him to direct any questions to our coordinator. Secondly our dress code was relaxed, meaning button down shirt and khakis or something alike. Despite asking about the dress code prior to the night, Chuck came out in a bedazzled suit and bedazzled shoes. It was almost as if he was trying to be the focal point. We were also surprised when he was walking around during our reception and making small talk with our friends and family. At the end of evening, right before our send off, my brother came to me angry telling me that chuck was getting together a group of our guests to move his furniture from his garage back to his house. I had to immediately find chuck and take him to our coordinator who was handling everything and let him know to not ask our guests to do anything. Lastly, after all the guests were gone and we were alone, Chuck was still on premises. He had informed us during our meetings he would stay the night, but it still felt a little uncomfortable knowing we weren't alone.
We don't let the small things ruin our incredible wedding memory. The property was everything we could have asked for and more. Best day of our lives. We hope this review helps your decision and your event is as amazing as ours.
