    Truly Special Venue

We can't recommend Whittemore House and Lyn, Walter and the whole team there more highly. We actually decided to go with this venue in part because of how impressed we were by how professional the staff was. And we are glad we did. If you want a beautiful, historic and special space, this is it. It's also centrally located so your guests can stay all over Dupont (or frankly all over D.C.) in hotels and AirB&Bs and walk home, metro or grab an Uber/Taxi easily. This lovely venue will have a special place in our hearts forever. Huge thanks to Walter for helping us execute a perfect wedding from start to finish.

    Whittemore House's reply:

Thank you for sharing! We are so glad you had a wonderful experience and that the Whittemore House could be a part of your special day!

We had an incredible experience at the Whittemore House at our wedding this weekend. We chose to hire Allison as our day-of coordinator which I would highly recommend - she kept us on schedule and pretty much coordinated the day of perfectly. She also dealt with questions from several sources and connected with the vendors to make sure they knew when to arrive, etc. The venue is beautiful and the staff was very accommodating with last minute changes due to the hurricane. They set up our decorations and arch better than we could have and we loved the space as guests could walk around inside or mingle outside if they wanted a break. We had an amazing time and would highly recommend the Whittemore House!

The Women’s National Democratic Club is an amazing venue. Everyone tells you when you get married that something will go wrong at your wedding – but that didn’t happen to us. Walter and the other staff at the venue made sure everything went perfectly. They were responsive, set up everything and managed the event so that we could focus on the big day. The bartender and wait staff were also amazing with our guests and made sure everyone had a fun time. From making sure the ceremony was perfect to managing the big moments like the cake cutting – the staff was friendly, professional and handled everything from start to finish. They were also extremely helpful during the wedding planning process, recommended vendors and helped us make key decisions. We are so glad we went with them. I don’t think you will receive the same attention at any other venue in the city.

Our wedding at the Whittemore House was PERFECT. Allison and Eduardo are the best. They are responsive, professional, experienced, and dedicated. They worked so hard to make sure that everything went smoothly and we're flexible with our plans. We had both our ceremony and reception in the main ballroom. We received so many compliments from our guests about how cool the venue was and there was plenty of room on both floors for guests to mingle and take pictures. There are so many unique pieces of art and decor throughout the space that we only needed a few pieces of wedding decor to make it a bit more personal. The Whittemore's staff are also amazing, especially the bartenders and security personnel. One really nice thing about the Whittemore is that all of their wine options are from vineyards that are owned and/or operated by women. We loved that! One thing to note: They require that you select one of their in-house bar packages, so no outside alcohol is allowed, but we didn't mind that because the choices were exactly what we had in mind. Highly recommend this unique space!

Whittemore House was the perfect wedding venue for my mid-December wedding: it is stunning, spacious, historic, centrally located with tons of hotels and DC sightseeing around, has indoor and outdoor space, professional, experienced, flexible for all types of event visions (you can use their catering, which is great, or bring in your own!) and - most importantly - has Eduardo. Eduardo is one of the greatest people to work with and one of the most professional. I was blown away at how easily he was able to accommodate our requests, and how effortless he made it all look. And he does it all with a smile and thoughtful touches that made me feel like the venue had been personalized for us. We received so many comments on how perfect the venue was - elegant, yet relaxed and cozy. I would recommend this venue to anyone.

Whittemore House was the perfect venue for our November wedding. We were eager for our guests to experience all the history, elegance, and excitement of DC, and Whittemore House captured everything we love about the District! We loved that our 130 guests could spread out and explore the mansion. We can't say enough about Allison, Eduardo, and the rest of the staff--they executed our vision perfectly, and the entirely evening came together seamlessly. We were so lucky to find an affordable venue in DC with a patient, friendly, and professional staff!

We had a wonderful wedding at the Whittemore House in May 2015. It is a beautiful, historic space with wonderful staff. Lyn Stout, who manages the property for events and who we hired separately as a day-of wedding planner, made every step of the planning process easy and enjoyable. The venue provides a ceremony space (if desired), alcohol, tables/chairs/place settings, staff, and other equipment, all at a very reasonable price by DC wedding standards. The courtyard provides lovely outside space if you're blessed with beautiful weather like we were, but the inside of the house is also charming, if you should have a rainy or cold day and have to remain indoors.

When we got engaged, our first task was finding a Washington area venue that fit our needs without totally breaking the bank on just the venue rental fee. We remembered visiting the Whittemore House for a past wine tasting event, and were excited to learn that the ballroom had been remodeled since our last visit and the fees were reasonable for Washington standards. Event coordinator, Lyn Stout, was incredible to work with from the first inquiry e-mail throughout the entire event process. Lyn made sure to answer all of our questions, address & handle our requests in a patient manner, and meet all of our event needs. You can bring in approved caterers for dinner, but we had to run our bar through the venue. The staff hosted a group wine tasting for future Whittemore House couples to attend and try/select the dinner wines, which was a blast. The bar also worked out well because Lyn was flexible with the number we submitted, and we were able to leave out our pregnant and non-drinking friends from the full bar number (a helpful cost savings to not have to pay for alcohol for guests that weren't drinking!) We had our ceremony and reception in the same location. We were able to comfortably fit our 168 guests between the two levels for cocktail hour and in the ballroom for the ceremony/seated dinner. The staff was efficient at turning the ballroom during cocktail hour. The venue is an amazing historic house with natural charm. Republicans beware though; there are pictures of Democrats on the walls that can't be removed because it is the Women's National Democratic Club at heart. But that really just adds to the DC appeal. Our guests all raved about how beautiful our venue was and how conveniently located it was to our hotel block at the Dupont Circle Hotel next door. This venue is truly a hidden gem that will forever hold a special place in our hearts. We LOVED it, and recommend to couples wanting a cozy, romantic, Washingtonian space.

The Whittemore House was the perfect place for my wedding. The staff was amazing, helpful, and went above and beyond. The rooms are beautiful and made for the perfect setting for the ceremony and reception. Lyn, the house manager, is perfect and worked so hard in the days and weeks leading up to the event. I would definitely recommend this venue to anyone looking to get married in the DC area.

DC's hidden wedding venue gem! I can't understand why everyone doesn't get married at the Whittemore House. It is a perfect venue for a great price. The House itself is beautiful - it is filled with character, historic touches, and a romantic vibe. We used the front room for our ceremony, and it was the perfect backdrop for our vows. Cocktail hour was upstairs, and our guests loved exploring every nook and cranny. The reception hall was a great space to have a fun party. We were blessed with beautiful weather for our mid-March wedding, and we had the windows and patio doors open, and guests enjoyed having a drink on the warm night. When you contact them during your venue search, they will send a sample budget - there are no hidden costs and so much is included for the very reasonable price.

Originally unconvinced about the value of a wedding planner, we finally decided to hire Lyn (also the venue event manager) as our day of coordinator through her personal business. It was one of the best decisions we made. Self-described "bad planners", we really appreciated Lyn's detail-oriented yet laid back attitude. She made sure everything was perfect in the days leading up and every minute of the day of. When I walked into the Whittemore House before the ceremony, it literally took my breath away - I knew I loved it, but Lyn did an AMAZING job at setting up the place. There were candles and flower petals everywhere - it was beautiful and elegant and exactly what I wanted. Lyn kept us on pace all afternoon and evening with her gentle guidance. The day was completely stress free, and I owe that to her!

    Amazing Venue Steeped In History
I'm a native Washingtonian and a lover of all things politics and presidential. This beautiful, unique, historic and lavish mansion sits just off the iconic Dupont Circle. It also doubles as The Women's National Democratic Club. The walls are lined with first ladies, heads of state, presidents and beautiful art. If you rent the entire mansion, you and your guests can use the entire mansion, for the duration of the event. The bride's dressing and powder room are beautiful and there's another wing where the men can relax while the ladies get ready. The ballroom is beautiful, the front room looks like a room from a palace, especially in pictures and you can't beat the value. It's like a one stop shop. When you book there, you get the flatware, the tables, lines, glasses, liquor, drinks, etc. All can be upgraded for an added fee of course. You can also have the mansion staff order and bring in specialty liquor or champagne, again for the price of the items you want. The best part about having your wedding at The Whittemore House is the woman you deal with when you decide to book it. Lyn Stout. I can't say enough about her. I loved her attention to detail, class, experience and work ethic so much, I hired her as my day-of-coordinator. Best decision of my life. She handled everything from coming to get every piece (there was car loads full)of wedding accessories, paper products, favors, containers, flutes, gifts for the wedding party, you name it, Lyn toted them with her. I didn't have to lift a finger. She made everything smooth as silk. She was super responsive and we traded hundreds of emails back and forth 1.5 years before the big day. She is a God send and worth every, single penny!

I discovered the Whittemore House when we were looking for a unique and affordable wedding venue in the city. Our expectations were that we wanted something beautiful and classic, but wouldn't cost us an arm and a leg. We're really happy we discovered the Whittemore House because it was a perfect venue for our ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception. We had about 90 people, and a whole mansion to ourselves. All the cool art, architecture, and historical pieces really made our wedding even more special that we were part of something larger. The staff there were also very professional, and were very flexible with set-up and requests we had. I don't think there is anything they didn't address well. I made several visits to the venue when I wanted to check on something and they always welcomed me.

    Blessing in Disguise

After a venue cancellation issue due to construction, the Whittemore House came to our rescue with 3 months to go before our wedding. The venue is an awesome place to explore, photograph, and enjoy with any event, and the WH team was great to work with. They have a beautiful garden and receptions rooms. Would highly recommend!!

Whittemore House was a beautiful venue with both indoor and outdoor spaces. We hardly needed to decorate because the space was already beautiful. Proximity to Dupont Circle made it easy to take photos at Dupont Circle, then return to the house. But above all, the staff was outstanding to work with, especially Allison and Eduardo, especially when having to plan the wedding long-distance from another continent. They were prompt in answering, very flexible to deal with, accommodated all of our requests, and even gave us additional options for a specialty cocktail when we were not so excited about the existing list. During the reception, every time I would head to the bar, they would already have a glass of prosecco poured and ready to hand to me. We considered many options in DC and ultimately went with Whittemore House because it offered the best value for money - the beautiful spaces and great staff were bonuses!

Highly recommend this venue; it's an awesome, "very dc" venue with a lot of history. It provides a nice space for a ceremony and reception, allowing for a cocktail reception upstairs. The staff was great, on the day of they were very accommodating, the bar and the bartenders did an excellent job and always made sure we had what we needed. There is a suite available upstairs for the bridal party to hangout and it's truly a beautiful space. Eduardo and Allison were great to work with and really worked hard to make our day extra special. Also they have chairs and tables right no sight. I would highly recommend this venue.

The Whittemore House is a great place to have a wedding reception! For our winter wedding, it was a perfect venue that had a very nice warm, cozy atmosphere to it. Lyn was very helpful throughout the entire process and then Brad was fantastic for the wedding event itself. A classy place!

The Whittemore House is absolutely beautiful. We used their onsite caterers and day-of wedding coordinator as well. We had several meetings before the wedding to go over details, including types of linens, alcohol, and table setup. Allison was very helpful with everything, and so very last-minute we asked her to be my day-of wedding coordinator. She was exactly what I could have hoped for: very low stress and on top of everything, even with an offsite ceremony. We also did a tasting at the Whittemore House, which was so much fun! We were the only people in the gorgeous ballroom with a fully set table and wait staff, and the food was delicious! I especially recommend the cake pops. On our wedding day, the bartenders were a huge hit--our guests absolutely loved them. The venue itself is why I chose it, but I was regularly impressed with the little details that they could bring into our event. The building has such great architecture and character, and the location is so easy to get to. There is a little parlor upstairs for the wedding party to leave coats/purses and just relax before the reception, and the outside area was perfect. The were also really great interacting with all of our other vendors, and even had some recommendations for us for regulars that work well with the venue. I had such an amazing time at the Whittemore House.

We loved Whittemore from the moment we saw it. The spaces feel intimate, but there is still plenty of space. We had one snafu (we had asked for champagne to be provided to guests upon entry and they agreed, but it didn't happen), but otherwise were very happy with the service provided. The bartending staff was great, and security even handled a very rowdy guest extremely professionally. Would absolutely recommend!

The Whittemore House is an amazing wedding venue. It's location, history, charm, and size is really unparalleled in DC. Our guests LOVED it.

They are pretty flexible but it's also nice to know that they are very experienced doing weddings and will make sure everything goes smoothly.

Lyn, their wedding contact, is awesome and very encouraging and laid back.

We had good access to the venue before the wedding and also on the day of.

Unlike most venues, they provide all beverages while you are free to book your own caterer (we used Occasions and they were great and familiar with the house). They also recommend, but do not require, other vendors, which is nice.

We had 170 people which is the upper limits of what I would recommend there but that is still bigger than most comparable DC venues.

We used the front rooms for our ceremony, the upstairs rooms for the cocktail hour, and the ballroom for the reception. The space was perfect and our guests loved it. The bride's room was also a nice place to get ready. It houses the Women's National Democratic Club and was the perfect DC venue.

We hired Lyn as our day-of-coordinator and she did a wonderful job and made everything so much less stressful for us. She helped us figure out the timeline and stick to it on the day of. She even came to our apartment a few days before the wedding to pick up all of the stuff we needed to get to the venue, and brought everything back to our hotel room before the reception ended so we did not have to worry about anything on our wedding day. She was also very responsive with all of the questions we had along the way. While she was not very friendly when we initially met her, the more we worked with her the more we liked her. She was very organized and helpful and we are so glad we hired her!

We used the Whittemore House for our wedding last year, and it was beautiful. The house is the home of the Women's National Democratic Club, and has lots of beautiful old artifacts, charm, and it just exudes a very "DC" feel. For us, it was important to have a venue that could house our ceremony, cocktail hour and our reception and fit all 100 guests comfortably (a hard task in DC with lots of old houses). The Whittemore House allowed us to do all three in one location and indoors.

The house looked amazing at night, and there is no flame restriction, so we were able to light the house up with candles which just made it look even more beautiful. We hardly needed any additional decor, because of the items already in the house. They had also just completed a renovation of their ballroom which was fantastic!

They are also a great deal for the DC area and provided a bar with a set price per person (great if you have big drinkers!), staff, and linens/silverware/plates in the price. Lyn, the marketing manager, was wonderful. She was really flexible, and let us do most anything we wanted.

Cons: We had some issues with the invoicing. We had to have them corrected a few times, which was frustrating but worked out in the end. Also, you must become a member to get the better prices.
