Elopement Ceremony

Our experience was truly wonderful from start to finish. From our very first call through ongoing email communication, the officiant provided genuine support and guidance every step of the way. As someone who was unfamiliar with the process and unsure where to begin, I deeply appreciated how Reverend Starlene patiently walked me through the planning with care and professionalism.

I am so happy with my decision to choose her as our officiant. She was punctual, organized, and fully prepared, which brought a sense of ease and confidence to our special day. Her kindness and calm presence made a meaningful difference.

My husband and son also appreciated her politeness and support throughout the experience. I would highly recommend services to anyone looking for a dedicated and compassionate officiant.

Great Ceremony with short turnaround!

Starlene did such an incredible job with our ceremony. She tailored the ceremony to make it even more special for us and did all of this in a very short amount of time. She arrived very early at the location of the wedding, ensuring it would go as planned.

Best decision ever!

Multiple guests raved about how moving and special our wedding ceremony was. Starlene provided beautiful words of wisdom that hit home for us and our families. Not to mention, our consultation session was basically a pre-marital counseling session! Starlene is kind, professional, and responsive. Hiring her was one of the best decisions that we made.

Great officiant!

Last minute nuptials in the middle of a pandemic

Thank you for coming to our rescue! We didn’t want to wait until the courthouse opened to get married, plus we wanted a ceremony catered to our needs. Our officiant was professional, responsive and gave great suggestions to fit the wants and desires of our ceremony location and vows. Excellent and Professional Officiant

When you hire Rev. Starlene Joyner Burns, you get more than a wedding officiant--you get a true motivator whose positivity and words of support will only help make your wedding day that much more special. I found Rev. Starlene doing a search online for officiants who were experienced with elopements or micro weddings. My finace and I were very short on time and had limited ceremony options due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After my first talk with Rev. Starlene, I already felt some of my anxiety go away. She helped me think through the options of a pop-up ceremony and even suggested our location, the National Harbor in Oxon Hill, MD. Although we had originally planned to get married outside, she was very flexible when I told her we were changing to indoors at the Residence Inn Marriott due the rainy weather forecast for our wedding day. She counseled and mentored me all the way through to the end and reassured me that our wedding was happening no matter the weather or location and that we would speak positivity into everything turning out alright. In the end, my now husband and I were more than pleased, we were elated with how our big day came together in such a short time--it was an amazing day!!! Thank you so much Rev. Starlene for your support and guidance; I couldn't have picked a better officiant for our big day!

The Rev. was welcoming and reassuring and freely detailed what to expect. We had a civil ceremony in the park and everything was perfect.

Divine Experience

Reverend Burns was a delight to work with. We had decided on a last-minute intimate ceremony with just our parents in attendance. We didn't know much about what to expect on our special day, but Reverend Burns helped us pull it all together. We wanted to jump the broom but realized we had waited too long to order our own. Gratefully, she was able to lend her personal broom to us - and it was gorgeous! Our intimate ceremony was divine thanks to her. I would highly recommend Reverend Burns if you appreciate working with someone experienced in officiating all types of ceremonies. She provides the type of guidance one needs when planning a meaningful event like a marriage, even when you don't have much time to plan.

Wonderful!

We made the right decision getting Rev. Starlene as our officiant. From the beginning, she was so kind and understanding especially on our wants. She took time to get to know us as a couple before sending us a draft of the ceremony. She also mailed us a copy of her workbook that contains all the information we need along with a guide on how to create personalized vows. My husband and I however decided to just go with one of her pre-made vows since it resonated with us. On the day itself, the ceremony started on time. She conducted the ceremony in such a heart-felt way that even the guests felt it. Most of them approached me during the reception to say that the officiant was so good. She also stayed even after the ceremony and interacted with our guests. I find this to be a nice gesture and also, she didn't make us feel rushed. The marriage license was mailed right away as well. Over-all, such a wonderful experience! I suggest you call her right away and you'll feel the warmness in her voice throughout the conversation.

Amazing Ceremony!

Reverend Starlene Joyner Burns was amazing to work with from the pre-wedding consultations all the way to our special wedding day! She was always available to answer any questions that we had about our ceremony and communication on the day of (she had two weddings to officiate) was perfect. She provided everything we needed to plan our ceremony with several options to chose from and allowed us to customize some sections as well. Rev. Burns was extremely professional but also very fun to be around and kept us relaxed throughout the process. I would highly recommend her for anyone looking to have a memorable wedding ceremony!

Beautiful ceremony, amazing photos

My husband and I were married on 3/16/2019, and we both loved working with Rev. Burns. We had actually scheduled with her a few months prior, but decided to hold off for a while. When we were finally ready, we provided a short week-of notice for our wedding date, then had to change the date again because we wanted to include photography and needed a date that it would not rain. Rev. Burns was friendly and professional even with our last minute adjustments. I still do not know why my husband was so anxious to be married so soon, but in any case, Rev. Burns worked with us as we let her know what we envisioned for our private elopement at Union Station, and she provided suggestions for a couple of props that would look amazing in our photos.

Working with Rev. Burns on the day of was actually a really fun experience. She is a real, down-to-earth person and is very easy to talk to. She made us feel at ease every step of the day, from our ceremony to our photography session. She made us laugh and smile often with her personality, which was a huge plus. Our ceremony was beautiful, and the photos she took were beyond what I would have ever expected. Although we chose a private elopement ceremony with just the two of us and Rev. Burns, we wanted it to be memorable and special for us, and we had given her a general vision of what our larger wedding would have looked like when we were planning that. She understood our vision and ran with it, and we are still so glad that we chose to do it this way. The privacy and intimacy of the day is part of what made it even more special to us. It was just perfect. We could not have chosen a better officiant for our day.

Short DC ceremony

Starlene is an absolute professional and we are glad she performed our ceremony. She was very responsive (through email/ text/ phone call), was there on time and even gave us suggestions about the traffic (DC was crowded) for that day. Made our Wedding Day Perfect!

Rev. Starlene Joyner Burns was considerate and assisted us in deciding the type of wedding that would work for us. She took time to ask pertinent questions that made our ceremony feel as though she knew us for years. That special touch made all the difference. She made all of us feel at ease even though we were from out of state and our guests were from Europe. Rev. Starlene handled the marriage license and literally everything went off without a hitch! (Well, we were now hitched, but wasn't that the goal !?!) Thank you for a perfect wedding!

Rev. Burns officiated our simple civil ceremony on September 7, 2018 at the DC War Memorial. She provided a script ahead of time that we were encouraged to edit as desired. She incorporated our edits without question and suggested the placement of two poems that we wished to be read during the ceremony. I spoke with Rev. Burns one time and we met her as a couple the week before the ceremony. She was punctual to our meeting and to the ceremony. She has a great sense of humor and style! The ceremony turned out just as we had planned and it was just what we had intended. Rev. Burns took care of all the official paperwork afterwords. I would highly recommend Rev. Burns.

My husband and I had a New Year's Eve (12/31/2017) ceremony at a friends studio. She came highly recommended for this event and I am very thankful for the recommendation. She provided a questionnaire for us to complete and her website answered a lot of my questions ahead of time. We exchanged texts a few times and we also could have Skyped, met in person or talked over the phone, if needed. She provided the ceremony details ahead of time and my family felt the words were exactly meant for us. The delivery of the wedding was superb.

I recommend Rev. Burns 100%. She was very responsive from the first day I inquired about her services. She worked with me over the course of a few months to customize our ceremony. The day of our wedding she arrived on time and was a true professional. She was even thoughtful of our guests. The weather the day of was unseasonably cool for our outdoor affair and she suggested we might want to consider cutting the length of the ceremony. My husband and I didn't mind this at all considering a traffic accident prevented our guests from arriving on time and we were forced to work under a serious time constraint. Working with Rev. Burns was a breath of fresh air. A true professional indeed!

We picked the To The Moon package which included DC marriage license by proxy service and an hour of after-ceremony photo shoot. My husband and I are very grateful for the service DC Marriage Knot offered. Sweet simple mini wedding (or elopement). We wouldn't have wanted it any other way. We also looked at other services online and found that DC Marriage Knot has the best value for money. We ended up getting married on 7/7/17 at 7pm by Thomas Jefferson Memorial. The process was completely painless. We filled in the enquiry form online and Rev. Burns contacted us very promptly. We met via Skype (because I was overseas) to discuss the wedding. We only had to give her the necessary paperwork for the marriage license and everything went very smoothly. All this was done with a short notice (less than 2 weeks). She was fun, friendly, flexible, and professional. We had so much fun during the ceremony and photo shoot.

I googled Reverend Joyner Burns and to my surprise I found someone religious who was an advocate for same sex marriage and more importantly LOVE. After reading her Biography online and speaking to her I was convinced that she would be an excellent Officiant for my wife and I BIG day. Reverend Burns was helpful from the very first phone call that I placed to her, up until the day of our wedding. She was on time for our event and she spoke as if she knew us for years. I said it before and I will say it again to those of you who will read this review, "She showed up and showed out!" My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our elopement ceremony with Rev. Starlene Burns! She was very kind to us throughout the entire process, and she was patient and accommodating as well. Due to fear of being judged by our officiant, we initially decided to do a quick courthouse elopement, but we somehow stumbled across Starlene's work. We were immediately sold when read her story and saw that she was LGBT friendly AND did her own photography. It was a double whammy for us because we also wanted photos taken! She did an amazing job, and she made us feel very comfortable the entire time. We were able to enjoy the ceremony as traditional couples do, thanks to Rev. Starlene Burns! She is also very professional. I definitely recommend her to anyone looking to elope in the DMV area!

I am so glad I found Rev. Starlene Burns!!!! She married us in December 17, 2016.
She made my dream wedding come true, it was one of my memorable and best days of my life. I was browsing the internet looking for someone to marry us and venues and I found Starlene Burns webpage, I loved everthing I was reading, all what she was offering and reading and looking at her page gave me feel good vibes, secured to finally have found her for my wedding.
Rev. Starlene Burns is very nice, professional, chill, cool and caring person.
All my family and guests loved her, me and my husband loved her too, she is amazing and wonderful, helped us in everything, answered us fast and always made us feel happy and secured. Rev. Reverend Burns was wonderful. She met with me and my fiance twice before the wedding via Skype, talked us through options for the ceremony and gave us very good advice, and then was particularly helpful during the rehearsal (which was particularly crazy since it involved a large puppy ringbearer) with her warm, calm manner. So glad we found her!

We had a wonderful experience with Rev. Burns. Not only did she respond to our email immediately but she was able to meet with us the same day. When my husband and I met her, we knew we were going to have a great experience. She was very warm and personable and we could tell that she was going to capture 'us' during our ceremony. She was very accommodating to our needs and gave wonderful advice for our ceremony. With our wedding being a few weeks away, we were on a tight schedule and Rev. Burns was efficient and timely. She lit up our ceremony and all of our guests commented on how great she was. If you want an unforgettable experience you should definitely have Rev. Burns as your officiant!

I am so glad we decided to go with Rev. Burns for our ceremony (8/5/16). We contacted Rev. Burns and explained that we would like to move forward with her based on telephone conversations and great reviews. Rev. Burns sent us a useful questionnaire inquiring about our love story, individual preferences, and specific wedding details. Starlene provided a helpful link to her website, which answered many of our questions. It also set the expectations for the days leading up to and wedding day.

Let’s fast forward to wedding day on 8/5/16. My bride was getting dressed in the bridal suite when I entered the venue. Rev. Burns greeted me with a warm welcome and hug. This set the tone for the evening. I explained that I had no idea what to do and how everything should go due to my nervousness. She kindly told me step-by- step what should take place and reassured me that everything would be fine. Although Rev. Burns had emailed a copy of the ceremony draft- that draft did NO JUSTICE to how she spoke to our AND our guest’s hearts. Not just the words, but also the tone(s) she used. She spoke with so much passion. Our ceremony was truly amazing and we cannot thank Rev. Burns enough. Our guests are still saying how wonderful Rev. Burns was and they want her at their wedding. Rev. Burns was an absolute joy to have as our wedding officiant! She was kind, friendly, and flexible throughout our planning process and wedding. All our meetings were great; she is so personable and really tries to get to know the two of you as a couple. She guided us through our ceremony script and custom tailored it to what made us comfortable. She was also easy to reach, whether it was by phone, email, or Skype, and went with the flow on our wedding day. She is an amazing speaker and I couldn't have asked for a better ceremony! Simply by talking to her in one conversation you would know that she is highly experienced and completely professional -- I would highly recommend her to all brides and grooms.

Rev Barnes most definitely showed us all the love in the world. Not only did she make us feel like valued customers but she made us feel like family as well. I felt as if she took us under her wing of marital expertise, taught that every wedding has a special meaning and not every wedding is meant to be the same. We had a lot of fun during our Skype counseling sessions and were very honored that she was willing to travel for our big day. Rev. Burns is the consummate professional and we are very grateful that she joined us together in marriage in late August 2014. She is very well-organized, friendly, and has excellent people skills. Rev. Burns gives invaluable insights into the entire process not only on the logistical and fiscal levels, but also on a spiritual one as well. She is respectful of divergent views and opinions, does not impose her views on others, and is totally non-judgmental. It is very evident in her earnestness that she cares about what she does and is honored to be present on your special day and in the that role she plays in it. She was available for calls when we needed it most; both before, during, and after the wedding ceremony. She was more than on-time and prepared for our ceremony, and many of our guests commented on how much they loved her personality and enjoyed the way she facilitated the ceremony. Rev. Rev. Burns married my partner and me on April 25, 2014 at the Lincoln Memorial. Since we were traveling from Atlanta, we started making plans in November 2013.

I reviewed several Wedding Officiates in the Washington DC area. I gave my partner a preferred sorted listing of Wedding Officiates to review. We do this as a practice to compare our research independently it helped us narrow to begin our calls on securing the most important date of our lives. I ask my partner who was his preferred selection, he picked Rev Burns. I also had picked Rev Burns as well because I felt a connection from her photos in the advertisement. God provides you the right resources, when need it.

Rev. Burns provided all information promptly mailed us a contract so we can provide the deposit to lock in the date. The ceremony was personal and designed for us. Rev. Burns gave us a folder that included our ceremonial vowels and the prayer of blessing for our marriage.
When we meet with Rev Burns it was feeling like a reunion of best friends. To my surprise the week prior Rev. Burns married two of my friends from Birmingham.

We can’t express enough our humble heartfelt gratitude for Rev. Burns. She is divinely gifted, professional, and takes the time to understand your needs.

Reverend Burns was wonderful and flexible. Her words at my ceremony were memorable. She gave me choices about the type of ceremony as well as the input on any wording she would use. She took our love story and turned it into our vows. I made a last minute addition to the vows about two weeks before and she accommodated my change. Rev. Burns went to a lot of trouble to make sure that our special day would be perfect. Being out-of-towners we weren't sure about a location for the wedding and she rented a beautiful sanctuary for us. Her ceremony was very moving and everything we could have asked for. We had been engaged quite a while, but rather last minute (in Oct) to get married in DC on our anniversary in Nov 2011. While we did not love the thought of getting married at the courthouse, we thought that was the best option at the last minute. Then I found the Reverend online, we were so excited. She worked with us - at the very last minute (3 or 4 days before) - to create a beautiful ceremony outside of the Jefferson Memorial. She is very flexible in offering skype for first meetings with her, traveling to different sites in DC to officiate, and filing the paperwork for us. But the lasting memory are the lovely vows she drafted based on her first meeting with us. Rev. Burns made our day very special!!!

We decided to have a last minute civil ceremony at our condo in DC after finding out that my father's health was rapidly worsening. We found Reverend Burns online and sent her an email inquiring if she could file our paperwork, bring it to our home and officiate a small civil ceremony. She quickly responded and within 24 hours (beginning on the Sunday of the Thanksgiving weekend) we had received an emailed response, spoke to her on the phone, and completed all the necessary paperwork.

Reverend Burns is kind and thoughtful. She even suggested that my father walk me down the "aisle", which was the entrance to our roof deck. She kept us up to date with emails and she was prompt the day of the ceremony. However, that is not what made her fabulous; my fiance told her our engagement story and she incorporated the tearing of a paper towel as part of the ceremony at the very last minute. It brought me to tears and the entire ceremony was perfect!

She also created a lovely program and had everything prepared in a folder for us to review. She really thought of everything, including the forms and envelopes to get certified copies of the wedding certificate. I strongly recommend her services. She will not disappoint and will probably pleasantly surprise you!

Our planner at DIYva Designs recommend Reverend Starlene Joyner Burns to us. We waited so late in the game finding an officiant since our ceremony was not going to be at church and were sooooo relieved when she was available to perform our wedding ceremony for us. We met with her about 1 month prior to our wedding where we got to know each other and she went over her services and what she was able to provide. We were given the opportunity to customize our ceremony and see examples of others that she does. She was very nice to work with and was also very understanding when we experienced a delay at our rehearsal.

She is very easy to talk to, answered any questions we had and was prompt with returning calls/emails which is also very important.

I just want to say a few honest and kind words about our experience with Chapel of Love Ceremonies and the respected and most honorable Starlene Joyner Burns, MSS. We arrived from Miami to Washington DC after a earthquake and in the midst of a hurricane this past August 25th. We, my partner and myself were a nervous wreck if you can imagine but went on a vibe all would be fine. Well, it was more than fine, it was spectacular. The storm just brushed by us at our hotel and she was encouraging through the entire process. She was on time, kind and encouraging about doubts, cold feet, vow's and positive advice in making this marriage a most wonderful and long lasting one at that. My partner was an hour late right after the photographer who was just as late due to the storm and she was so patient and calming to me. She spent time sharing advice and listening to me discussing hopes, concerns and desires from Gay Marriage to Acceptance and family turbulence shall I say. She was wonderful! The ceremony went so smooth and her words and vows bestowed upon us were priceless. She further gave us for keep sake a nice folder with all our documents, licenses and vows exchanged etc. A true memorable keep sake and I just want to say on behalf of my partner and I - we thank you so much. Rev. Burns was EXCEPTIONAL!!!!!!!!! We found her only weeks before our wedding, however we felt like we had known her for such a long time. Her professionalism, flexibility, and creativity during our last few weeks of planning put us at ease. Rev. Rev. Burns was great! she was professional and offered some insight and great advice to us about the journey on which we were about to embark.

She paid close attention to us and took the time to get to know us and find out what was truly important to us, and was sure to include that in the ceremony.

My husband and I selected Rev Burns to perform our marriage ceremony after talking to a few others. The most important thing to us was that we and our family and friends were comfortable with her. Within minutes of meeting, she expressed her belief in equality for gay and lesbian people and her frustration with other religious leaders who oppose equality. I enjoyed using her guidebook to write our ceremony, although she will do it for you if you don't want to. I think the revisions she made to my version were helpful. Rev Burns was gracious to our families and friends and several people remarked that they enjoyed talking to her at the rehearsal, reheasal dinner, and reception. The ceremony went off perfectly. I would certainly recommend Rev Burns for a wedding whether gay or straight.

Rev. Burns was a wonderful officiant for our wedding. She took the time to carefully walk us through our options and to learn about us as a couple to ensure she met our wishes for our ceremony. Upon meeting her you can tell that she is genuinely interested in collaborating with you to personalize your ceremony. She is also very organized and came prepared with materials that helped us better determine our ceremony style. We were truly happy that we had the opportunity to work with her!!

From the moment I meet Rev. Starlene Joyner Burns, I thought she was wonderful. I loved her energy, coolness and a sort of jazziness about her. She was perfect for my non-traditional wedding. I loved that she was flexible and understood my vision of what my wedding day should be. She showed up on time. The family enjoyed her. Loved the way she presented the ceremony for my small cocktail wedding ( we only had about 12 guest and out of those 12 guest four were kids). I really think I was blessed with the perfect wedding. I was worried about find the right officiant to fit into my non traditional wedding. But after meeting her in one meeting. I told my husband that she was the one. She has a great sense of humor. she's laid back. very nice and put me to ease. She's got a zen quality about her. Trust me on your wedding day you will want as many chilled people around you as possible. Cause you will be a little stressed. So whether you want a traditional wedding or non-traditional like I had. I would highly recommend Rev. Starlene Joyner Burns.

Rev. Starlene Joyner Burns was wonderful. I called her one day in advance and she helped me with my vows, was on time, helped with rehearsal, was very professional and didn't make any mistakes when administering the ceremony. My family felt very comfortable with her, like she'd been a family friend for years. I highly recommend her services and look forward to maintaining her friendship as we retain her services for marriage coaching and spiritual guidance.

Rev Burns was a wonderful asset to our Same Sex marraige. She is willing to go the extra mile, right up to changing some of the wording at the last minute so that our daughters could participate over the phone at the last minute.

Rev Burns has incredable energy. She has a way of always feeling warm and fuzzy.

We have already, and will again in the future, recoment Rev Burns to our friends as the perfict person to go to for the wedding of your dreams.

My husband and I were married by Rev. Joyner Burns on May 1, 2011. Although I contacted several local officiants, Rev. Burns was by far the most professional, courteous, and responsive. She took the time to listen to our hopes for our wedding day and learn about us as a couple. I was a detail-oriented bride and I had very specific ideas about how I wanted the wedding to proceed. Rev. Burns listened to every idea I had and was diligent about incorporating my wishes into the ceremony. For those of you who may not be as anal-retentive as me, fear not! Rev. Burns comes prepared with an array of ideas and sample wedding services that you can adapt to your specific needs. Whether you are a spiritual, but non-practicing couple as we are, an interfaith couple, a God-fearing couple who hasn't found the right place of worship, Rev. Burns will respect your tradition and beliefs. She will provide you with a wedding ceremony that will honor who you are as individuals and a couple. I cannot say enough positive things about Rev. Reverend Burns was wonderful!! We had recently lost our son and were very emotional, probably a little difficult and undecisive. She patiently walked us through finding a beautiful spot for our wedding and was very professional with our wishes to make the ceremony non-denominational. We really picked the first person who responded to do our wedding and we were very fortunate. I loved that she is up-to-date with technology it made the process smoother as we live a good distance from Maryland. Thank-you very much!

Reverend Burns gave us a beautiful ceremony. The way she spoke to us, I feel like I have known her for years. At first, Rev. Burns is very professional and detail oriented. After the formalities are confirmed, she is warm, thoughtful, funny and very accommodating. Our ceremony was personal. She spoke to us--to our hearts--which means she really took the time to see "us" and who we are together. We received many compliments from our family and friend who had never been to a wedding ceremony that was so personal. It wasn't the same words and phrases you always hear. Rev Burns spoke complete love over us and even advised us on what being the right partner means. We not only appreciate her as our Officiant but we count her as someone we can call on for spiritual advise in ANY aspect of our lives. We were blessed to meet her and would recommend her over and over again to anyone seeking an Officiant for their special day.

Reverant Starlene Joyner Burns performed our wedding for us, and we have been very happy with the result! We located Starlene online, and were a little nervous. She talked to us over the skype, and we could see right away that she was a sincere and trustworthy person.
Even though we only spent a little bit of time with Starlene, I am so glad I got to know her. I appeciate her ministry and would recommend her to any prospective couple.

My partner and I were visiting DC within a limited time frame. We were able to apply for the marriage certificate and learned that we wouldn't be able to pick it up until the day we were leaving. I contacted Reverend Burns and she was extremely flexible and personable on the phone. After some more conversation and emails we settled on a possible location. This changed a few times for us and Reverend Burns adapted to our crazy schedule. She created a written ceremony and vows that truly touched our heart and soul. When the day came and we meet Reverend Burns we felt truly comfortable and had made the right decision.
