Great Experience with Toast!

We are so glad to have hired Toast for our wedding. The food was delicious and we received many compliments from our guests. Toast was easy to work with, which was super important because of all back and forth needed. They were responsive with our requests for our guests with dietary restrictions, and very helpful with changes up until the week of the wedding. A general note for couples planning their wedding, make sure you are specific in what you want for your wedding and don't be afraid to ask questions. The team at Toast was more than happy to make changes. My wife and I were so happy to have gone with Toast as our wedding caterer!

Asian + Mexican Fusion Wedding Catering

This team worked hard behind the scenes to bring all of us 150 people fresh dishes that were as authentic as you could get! We recruited Toast Catering to be a part of our wedding reception team, and they truly delivered. With additional investments, they were able to cater to our custom menu--literally bringing all sides of our cultures to the table.

For appetizers we had:
- pork tonkatsu lollipops (smoked Pork Belly, Tonkatsu Sauce, Sriracha Kewpie)
- ahi tuna tacos (tuna tartare, yuzu avocado puree, micro shiso)
- vegetarian egg rolls.

For main dishes we had:
- Chopped Asian Salad - Edamame, romaine lettuce, red cabbage, carrots, green onions, Mandarin oranges, crispy noodles, ginger dressing.
- Vegan chow fun
- Mongolian beef and vegetable stir-fry
- Butter garlic chicken wings
- Asian string beans
- and my favorite! Taiwanese braised pork over rice (滷肉飯). I requested that they print out a Chinese label for my side of the family, and they were able to do so. I appreciated that greatly.

For desserts we had:
- churros with chocolate sauce
- lemon bars, mini chocolate cupcakes, berry cheesecake cups, macarons

It was all a hit! The Taiwanese side of the family gave good credit to the chefs and the rest of the guests didn't leave any leftovers to take home. Toast was also able to provide coffee, tea, decaf, water and included rental services for glassware and linens. The staff were also very nice, including Luis and his teammates, who came over to bring us our own plate of appetizers while we got busy, refilling our signature drinks when we were socializing, and even saved a few churros at the end for us. I'd highly recommend Toast Catering to those who would like to have an all-inclusive setup with a trustworthy team!

The BEST wedding food!

The only thing you really need to know about Toast is this: multiple guests told us that their food was by far the best wedding food they’d ever had. And we completely agree!

Kim, Chef Sam & the entire team at Toast were wonderful every step of the way, even helping us seamlessly navigate multiple postponements forced by the COVID-19 pandemic – they were kind and easy to work with throughout that process and honored all original agreements. They coordinated our linen rentals and desserts with their partners and were a one-stop contact for us, and were very communicative throughout the process.

And of course, a caterer’s most important quality is their food, and Toast excelled tremendously on that front! Wedding food is so often “just OK” but as food-lovers it was important to us to have really good food at our wedding. We loved everything we tried at our tasting so much, and we were so excited when that translated to the larger quantities at the wedding itself: every single dish Toast made was superb! Our tray-passed appetizers included ahi tuna wontons, kobe beef sliders, and lumpia – the latter was a major highlight of the wedding as one of our families is Filipino, and it was such a fun (and delicious!) tribute to our culture. Toast generously agreed to make it for our wedding after we saw them post about it on Instagram after another event. It was such a hit! Every part of our buffet dinner was also excellent, from the salads, rolls, mac and cheese, and fingerling potatoes (seriously, even the basics were delicious!) all the way up to the main entrees in a slow-roasted tri-tip and pesto aioli salmon. We also loved the late night pizzas they made for us, and we sourced individual dessert shots, mini pies, and other treats from their partner, Sweet Cheeks.

We would recommend Toast in a heartbeat!

Amazing Food

We were fortunate enough to have Toast cater our wedding this past summer. We knew from the tasting that Chef Sam was extremely talented. We were so happy with the entire process when working with Sam and Kim. Our guests from our wedding are still raving about how incredible the food was. Everything was well-seasoned and served warm. We had a plated dinner for 145 people. I'm still dreaming about the crispy eggplant appetizer and leek tarragon salmon!

Amazing Caterer

We hired Toast for our wedding in August 2021. The food was nothing short of AMAZING, and we had multiple guests tell us it was the best wedding (buffet) food they had ever had. One guest doesn't even like steak, and she loved the tri-tip - that good! Also, I am gluten/dairy free with a list of different food allergies and they catered 90% of the menu to my restrictions without diminishing the quality or flavor of the food. I highly recommend hiring Toast.

Your catering search ends with Toast!

We have very much enjoyed our experience with Toast Catering so far, and if you are a bride and groom who are looking for a unique, authentic, and DELICIOUS catering option, then look no further. We were matched with Jaclyn who has been nothing short of incredibly professional, thoughtful, and responsive. We were drawn to Toast's Persian menu because it is different from traditional wedding menus (I swear, if I eat another dry chicken breast at a wedding reception...) and suited our outdoor venue style (they cook everything on site!) Jaclyn helped to set up a tasting, and we showed up to a table with personalized menus, with a slideshow playing on a TV in the background that showed different menu options and table setups. Jaclyn and the head chef brought out each course, explained the food, and here's the best part - they retreated to let us enjoy our meal in peace. This might seem like a minute detail, but we had gone to other tastings where they sit there with you and it makes it challenging to have an honest conversation. At the end, Jaclyn and the chef sit down with you and go through your likes and dislikes, offer alternative options, and ensure that every detail related to food on your wedding day is thought through (Jaclyn even offered to bring utensils to cut the pie we're having instead of cake). Jaclyn is incredible to work with - I left our meeting feeling confident that she had everything under control.

But most importantly, how was the food? SO GOOD. If you are considering the Persian menu, I highly encourage you to try it! It is fresh, delicious, and has something for every palette and dietary need. Our wedding isn't for a few months, and we cannot WAIT for our family and friends to eat Toast's food.

Personalized, Delicious, and Amazing Service!

My fiance and I have absolutely loved our experience with Toast Catering! Once we had our menu tasting with them, we cancelled the other tasting we had planned because we knew we were going to hire them! Their food is so delicious and they did an amazing job personalizing our menu. We are planning the small stations for our wedding!

As our May 30th, 2020 wedding gets closer and the COVID-19 situation begins to push us into potentially rescheduling, Jaclyn from Toast has been so supportive and helpful. We are so excited to have Toast cater our wedding whenever it happens!

Wonderful Experience

Epic "wedding food"!!

In September Toast catered our wedding in La Jolla for ~132 people, including a great variety of really amazing passed appetizers, all with excellent presentation, and three perfect stations that really captured exactly the type of CA food we wanted to serve our guests, including numerous out of towners. We were able to have stations that really represented us: 1) an amazing Santa Maria style Tri-tip carving station 2) "make-your-own" ahi poke bowls 3) a tacos station with chicken, grilled local White Sea bass, and veggie options. A perfect coastal California combination. It really made our wedding dinner memorable and we got lots of compliments on the food choice. Everything was absolutely delicious and cooked/presented perfectly; I only wish we had more room to eat more! Special shoutout to their Sous Chef, Lloyd, who won us over at the tasting and really delivered on the tri-tip, which coming from the central coast was an important one for me! He really knows how to cook.
Early on during the tasting and selection of Toast we had worked with a event manager who was really fantastic, and so we were a bit concerned to find out a couple months before our event that she had left the company. But those worries soon went away when talking with Kim who stepped in, took over our event, and made sure everything went smoothly and all our original discussions and requests were captured and honored. The staff the day of were all also really great and we'd definitely recommend Toast as a great choice for your event.

Hire them! Do yourself a favor

I can't say this enough: TOAST made our wedding the perfect day that it was. no doubt about it. Where do I even start? The food was OUT OF THIS WORLD. people are still talking about it months later. They were super attentive all night and made sure we were taken care of when it came to drinks and bites ! The made sure everything was running smoothly and that all of our guests were always full and had a drink in their hand ! I would hire them again and again, and people that were at the wedding are already talking about booking them for their weddings!

So Tasty!!!

The food was unbelievable!!! We wanted to keep things fun and relaxed so we went with the food stations and decided to do the mac & cheese, taco's and flatbread and everything was soooo good. The mac & cheese was by far the best mac & cheese I have ever eaten. All of our guests loved the food too. We were very impressed!
The only complaint we had was Toast waited until the last couple of days to finalize our contract even though our guest count was submitted several weeks prior to our wedding. I wish this portion would of been completed early but everything got figured out! If we had to do it again we would choose Toast Catering all over again. I can't emphasize enough how good the food was!!!

We LOVED working with Toast. When we weren’t responsive right away they were patient with us and were very flexible when it came to working with us. Kim and Sam were great from the start. The food is tasty, a great combo of French classic with a California coastal twist. Kim's attention to detail is impeccable and she seamlessly helped fix an issue with staffing when the separate bartending service was under-prepared. I was so impressed by the friendliness and excellent service their staff provided, as were our guests. I would definitely recommend them again and again!

I first experience Toast catering at a wedding I attended 2 years ago. I can still remember what I ate, the food was that good! Now I am using them for my wedding and the food we sampled during our tasting was AMAZING. Jim and Ashley are so easy to work with. I felt like I was family when I came in for my tasting. Wow, wow, wow! I could not be any happier with choosing TOAST Catering for our wedding. With the majority of our guests coming in from out of town, we wanted to find food selection that would really represent San Diego and have a modern twist from the standard wedding plates. Sam and Kim were very quick to respond to emails.
They set up an intimate food tasting in their location in Liberty Station. We were able to review the whole process from how food would be prepared at the venue, the place settings, and how they could help in the table settings. We were able to try each of the appetizers for our selection and the entrees. I was concerned about having enough food because we were doing a plated service, but after the tasting, I knew that was not a problem.
TOAST was very flexible with any changes we made with table settings or food allergies from our guests. Their serves were very polite and responsive to the whole group and took extra care that the bride and groom got plenty of appetizers before making it to the reception. And yes, the food was delicious!

Toast Catering is AMAZING!!!!! We worked with Sam and Kim for our wedding in April at The Thursday Club, we could not be happier with the experience. From start to finish they were so easy to work with and really cared about making sure we were happy with everything. They care about the details and added the perfect touches to every dish from the appetizers to the entrée dishes they were on it. The food is absolutely fabulous, we get so many compliments from our friends and family about the delicious food. We wish Toast would open a restaurant so we could eat there on a regular basis, yes it is that good!!!! The service for the event was flawless and Toast never skipped a beat. Toast Catering catered for our wedding on April 18, 2015 in Marina Village, Mission Bay. Hiring them was the best decision we made. They really do care about the people they cater for and make sure everything is executed to the plan. The food was absolutely delicious. To this day our guests are still commenting on how outstanding the food was and what a great service they provided. Hats off to chef Sam!

We recently worked with Sam and Kim of TOAST Catering for our wedding in La Jolla.

Picking them for our catering company was one of the best decisions we made, because not only was their food delicious, they were also so wonderful to work with! They really seem to care about the couple they are working with and made sure that everything we planned was exactly how we wanted it.

Highly recommend Sam's Quesadillas as one of the passed appetizers and also the short ribs as one of the main dishes, but you really can't go wrong with any of their dishes!

We recently had our daughter’s wedding catered by Toast Catering, and they did an absolutely magnificent job! Kim and Sam, are an absolute delight to work with, and everything they prepared was so delicious. As a matter of background, I should mention that the wedding was held outdoors at our home over a very large area. Toast set up a satellite kitchen in our garage to feed our 150 guests. However, our home sits about 20 steps higher than the area where the wedding, cocktail hour, and reception were held, so it was A LOT of up and down stairs with hor d’oeuvres, salads, meals, cake, snacks, etc. The staff at Toast met this challenge with professionalism, and outstanding customer service.

We selected the tomato burger, crab cake, and ahi poke on wonton as our tray passed hor d’oeuvres. For the reception, the first course was a mixed greens salad with strawberries and goat cheese; our entrees were plated, with a choice of beef short ribs or salmon with leek sauce (both served with mashed potatoes and asparagus), or the tamale (as a vegetarian choice). Everyone raved about how great all the food tasted, and that it was served hot (not an easy thing to accomplish, considering the challenges of the satellite kitchen). We also had a late night snack of tray passed street tacos (chicken and shrimp). Again, everyone said they were amazing!

Bottom line, we are so delighted that we chose Toast Catering to provide the food for our daughter’s special day. Everything was simply perfect, and we would most definitely recommend Sam and Kim to anyone looking for delicious, inventive food!! Thank you Toast!!

My family and I could have not been happier with Sam and Kim's service. I have never been to a wedding with such amazing food. I wish they had a restaurant! I also greatly appreciated the way they set the tables up for us. We left out all sorts of things we wanted on the tables and they did a beautiful job. We honestly wish we had more events to host so we could use toast catering all the time! Every single guest told us how much they enjoyed their meal!

Kim & Sam were wonderful -very professional, personable & attentive! They really helped to make our daughter's wedding special! Their whole team was great! Everything about working with Sam and Kim was amazing. They went above and beyond for us and everyone raved about the food. Kim and Sam run an absolutely fabulous catering company at Toast Catering. First, my husband and I filled out a questionnaire with our food preferences and what we would like to serve at our wedding, and from this Toast created a personalized menu for our wedding. When we met with them, they served us the full meal including the appetizers! Not just a small tasting, the full meal! Be warned, come hungry because the food is amazing and you'll want to eat it all. For hors d'oeuvres, we had beef sliders that were miraculously moist and delicious (catered sliders are often dry in my opinion, but not these), a shot glass full of tomato bisque with a little grilled cheese bite, and a pork tamale. We were ready to hire them after the hors douvres but it just got better. They created a salad based off my favorite salad from a place in Santa Barbara which included fried chicken, corn bread and cranberries. Then our meal options were beef bourguignon, chicken achiote, and a vegetable tamale. There was not a weak option in the bunch. I still can't believe it's catered and not a fine dining restaurant! Great food aside, Kim and Sam were such a joy to work with and were super organized. The sit down dinner at our wedding went without a hitch and to my knowledge not a single snafu with meal choices. The wait staff they hired were attentive and seamless in the reception. I didn't notice them ever and then as soon as I needed someone, they were on hand. All of our guests commented on how good the food was. I highly recommend Toast for anyone's wedding. You will be blown away by both their food and their wedding expertise. I wish I had more events that I could hire them for!

My daughter chose Toast Catering for her wedding last week and from the appetizers served during the cocktail hour (tasty and so cleverly presented that our guests could talk of nothing else) to the divine dinner (everyone raved about that too) - the event was a huge success!

While taste and presentation are hugely important in quality catering;- the servers at Toast take it up several notches from there with their amazing service and attention to detail. When four servers plate the correct meal choices in front of all eight guests at a table simultaneously...well, let's just say that "classy" and "sophisticated" were just two of the rave reviews I heard as Mother-of-the Bride! Toast Catering (Sam (the chef) and Kim (all of the rest +) ) catered the lovely wedding for our son and his bride in our craftsman house. They were outstanding. First, they were an enormous help in figuring out how to organize our space and what rentals we needed. Second, they were incredibly generous with their time in helping us choose the all vegan menu and providing a tasting. Once on site, on the day of the event, they were both nearly invisible (felt like family) and incredibly calm and competent in going about their job. And, even better than family, they thought of the things that we had not. Without our asking them (and really not known to us until the next day), they went out to the guest house to serve the couple who were taking turns engaging in the wedding events and taking care of their sleeping and fussy babies. In addition, at the last moment, one of our guests told us that her baby had been diagnosed with an allergy to soy and nuts so that she could eat neither because she was breast-feeding. Picture vegan, then picture no soy and no nuts. I told Sam about a week before the event (when I learned about this) that I did not expect him to solve the issue, that I would provide something like beans and rice that would "work." He said that this issue was not a problem - that he could take care of it - and he did. And he did - with no additional charge. Finally, the food was delicious; everyone (in a group that included many who had serious doubts about the edibility of vegan food) thought that both the lunch and the dinner were delicious and noted that it changed their mind about what they would eat. In short, these two are a treasure - and I recommend them highly for any event.

5 out of 5 is not enough! Kim and Sam are simply the best and provide outstanding professional service and the most amazing food. Kim and Sam created an amazing vegan menu for our wedding, wild mushroom pizzettes, falafels, Chilean style sheppards pie with corn crusted and seasoned crumbled soy, and Tian provencal were just some of the delicious foods that graced our tables all dished up in a "home style" service

Toast catered my wedding 2 weeks ago and, I don't mean to brag, but it was the best wedding food I've ever had hands down! Not only did me and my husband think so, but in the many emails I received in the next few days from family and friends congratulating us, the amazing food was mentioned over and over again.

From the first time we met with Sam and Kim (owners/chef/manager/awesome couple), we knew that Toast was the perfect company to cater our wedding reception. Of the 10+ catering companies I looked into, Toast had by far the most interesting menu and from our initial emails back and forth they were willing to work with whatever our budget was. Even better, they can provide all your rentals, which makes the planning process so much easier. At our tasting, it was clear that Sam and Kim have a sincere desire to accomodate any ideas/requests you may have. The food was not only beautifully plated but was absolutely delicious. We hired Toast on the spot without hesitation.

On the big day, the details were exactly as my husband and I wanted them. Sam and Kim make the perfect team because while Sam, who is classically trained in France, handles the food, Kim manages the logistics of the venue layout, seating arrangements, rentals, etc. The rentals arrived right on time and the tables were arranged and set well in advance. The. Food. Was. Amazing. There was zero drop in the quality of food from the tasting for 2 to the reception dinner for 160. The front of the house Toast staff (servers & bartenders) were extremely professional and friendly.

I would hire the Toast duo now before they book up for 2013!

We recently used Toast Catering for our wedding. I have nothing but great things to say about Sam, his wife Kim, and their team. From the moment we started corresponding, to our tasting appointment, to our big day, they were gracious, attentive, professional, and organized. Not to mention, the food was AMAZING! We used Toast as a one-stop-shop (they provided the wait staff, bartenders, plates, silverware, glassware, etc.), and it made our lives beyond easy. They took care of literally everything, and at price that beat what most other catering companies were charging for food alone.

Sam and Kim arranged a fabulous menu that was conducive to our mixed guest list (American and Persian), and it worked out beautifully. Everyone really enjoyed the live sushi bar at cocktail hour as well.

Another bonus note - I normally find that the taste/quality of food and presentation suffers at large events, but Toast's food was consistently cooked perfectly, was super tasty, and looked great (we had about 230 people at our wedding). Our wedding was in June, and people are still talking about how great the food was.

Home run all around!!!! We will definitely be using Toast Catering again. Thanks again Sam and Kim!!!

We had a beautiful wedding and it was down in no small part to the professionalism of TOAST.

Husband and wife team Kim and Sam were approachable, calm, insightful and talented. They worked in tandem to provide a stunning buffet dinner, cake serving and champagne toast. Kim set up the tables with my colour suggestions and flowers and it was GORGEOUS! We also had a fully tended bar and the bartender was friendly and super efficient. In fact all the staff from TOAST exceeded our expectations.

My guests commented on how well looked after they felt. The food was DELISH and the champagne and water glasses were kept topped up.

We are delighted with our choice of caterer and would recommend anyone wanting a 5 star service with a very personal touch, to look to TOAST.

Our friends and family are STILL raving about the amazing food from Toast! As a husband and wife team, Kim and Sam offer complete catering services. He handles all the cooking, she handles all the front end stuff. Together, it's a seamless dining experience.

I was drawn to Toast after seeing that they offer an actual vegetarian/vegan menu -- with TONS of options to choose from. No crappy greasy "grilled" vegetables and pasta with jarred tomato sauce on this menu -- Sam instead offers fabulous and thoughtful creations, such as a phenomenal vegetable wellington, chickpea and cauliflower tagine, wild mushroom and spinach lasagna, and many other delicious options.

They handled all the food, rentals (they use a really great family-owned rental company called Affairs Party Rentals), the bartender and servers, and set up/break down. We brought in our own alcohol and wedding cake, though I believe Toast can hook you up with both if you want. It was so awesome not having to worry about the rentals details, and Kim handled all the service and decor impeccably. Kim acts kind of like a day-of wedding coordinator, which is so helpful. If you are having trouble with the flow or timing of your wedding, use her as a resource -- she's great!

To fill you in on our delicious eats, we had a totally vegetarian spread (with nary a complaint from the many carnivores in attendance), including:

- roasted red pepper hummus and pita chips (vegan)
- fruit platter
- cheese display (which was beautifully presented)
- tray passed Indian vegetarian patties (made vegan for us)
- vegan lettuce wraps (made with soy crumbles)
- organic spring mix salad
- mushroom and spinach lasagna
- roasted vegetable wellington
- tian provencal (oven roasted vegetables -- vegan again)

The food was so good that my stomach is now rumbling from writing this review... d'oh! Our guests were very impressed, and several people came up to me and said that this was the best wedding reception food they've ever had. Sam offers a ton more vegan (and vegetarian) options, too -- amazing, considering he's not a vegan/vegetarian chef by any means.

I must mention again that all this fabulous food did not come with a ridiculous price tag. It was incredibly reasonable and I would even say a bargain considering the quality of the food and service. And would you believe that Kim and Sam are incredibly sweet and easy-going people to boot!

My only advice is to tell Sam how you like your food (super bold flavors or extra spicy) and he can adjust it to your liking. We ended up doing two tastings with Toast because we failed to let Sam know what we were looking for spice-wise the first time. Tell him ahead of time, do a tasting (why not enjoy the amazing food at a time when you'll actually be able to eat it?), and you and your guests will be so happy you choice so wisely.

Sam and Kim of Toast catering were the best choice for our wedding. From the first contact through the day of our wedding, they were everything one hopes to have for their big day. My calls and emails were always answered in a timely manner. My questions were always answered and verified to be what we wanted. Even when we lost our first venue reservation and I had to let all our other vendors know, it was Sam who called after my flustered email and made a number of new venue suggestions. I always felt at ease working with them; I felt like their only wedding, even though I know they have more than just me to think about. It was incredibly comforting to have them in my corner. Sam created a delicious menu for us and every guest told us how much they enjoyed their meal. Kim kept the day running smoothly. I can't recommend Sam and Kim highly enough. They really deserve six stars! They recently catered my wedding and the food was spectacular! We requested that everything be vegetarian and from the cocktail hour to the main course, everything was delicious and beautifully presented. We received compliments on the food all night and even almost a month later someone commented on how delicious it was. What I especially appreciated is how responsive and dependable Toast was. We had a special situation because our venue had an approved vendor list and Toast was not on it - we had to push a little to get approval and were required to at least in theory "work with" another caterer that was on the approved list. Sam did such an amazing job of reaching out to the other caterer and the venue to coordinate and really went above and beyond to make things come together smoothly. In the end we had different vendors for the cake, food and linens but I wish we could have used Toast for everything. The tasting at Sam and Kim's kitchen was so much fun and the night came together perfectly. Toast offers a phenomenal value as well. I thought the prices were very reasonable and well worth it. I would recommend Toast to anyone!

After interviewing several leading French restaurants and caterers in San Diego, we selected Sam and Kim Behnam of Toast Catering to cater our wedding. Following a lovely tasting in their kitchen, our expectations were that the food would be excellent, but we were a little apprehensive about committing to a small company. Those reservations were quickly put to rest by their very high level of personal service.
Kim and her team went above and beyond what I’ve come to expect from most caterers. They were very responsive in their communications, proactive in their decisions, and they took great initiative as Kim demonstrated that her role was closer to event coordinator than caterer. The personal touches and outstanding service provided by Toast far exceeded our expectations, and were certainly above our experiences with other caterers and restaurant based catering.
We and many of the other guests consider ourselves “foodies” with a passion for cooking and food. Our guests also included a significant number of high maintenance French nationals where the term passion doesn’t begin to describe their love of cuisine. The consensus among the guests was that the meal prepared by Sam was the among the best meals that they’ve had in memory. The appetizers were perfectly prepared and seamlessly circulated, while the courses were brilliant and beautifully plated. Do not miss the opportunity to try Sam’s Argentinean Beef Skewers or Beef Bourguignon.
After re-reading the above recommendation, it looks like perhaps Sam or Kim’s mom must have written it. Please be assured that it represents my and Chantal’s experience. If you ask us for a recommendation for a French caterer, it’s Toast. If you don’t ask us, we’ll still tell you to use Toast.

Toast Catering was the perfect choice for our wedding. We couldn't have been happier with the service they provided. Sam the head chef, and his wife Kim, as well as their whole team, executed flawlessly at our wedding.
Sam and Kim were extremely patient with us throughout the whole planning process. Sam was able to offer a very customized menu selection for us, which included a flavor of Vietnamese and Russian dishes (my wife is Vietnamese and I am Russian), at a very affordable price. We also chose to serve appetizers family-style, which Sam and Kim were glad to accommodate and put in extra time and effort to optimize table sizes, serving platters, etc. In addition, Sam and Kim easily adapted to our many changes throughout the planning process, including last minute table reconfigurations. They both also spent many hours helping us arrange the tables the best way in the space available, which was of tremendous help. Their choice of rental company vendors was also excellent, and they too spent many hours working with us throughout the planning process.
On the day of the wedding, Kim acted as a coordinator, among many other roles, which again put us much at ease and removed a lot of stress from us. Her execution was again flawless, as we had absolutely nothing to complain about. Everything went perfectly, and exactly as we planned!
Sam's cooking was amazing. It has been almost a month since our wedding, and we're still getting compliments about how fresh and tasty the food was. The service was amazing, the presentation was picture-perfect, the food was plentiful, and everything ran smoothly and on-time.
Our day-of-coordinators could not stop talking about Sam and Kim, and how easy it was to work with Toast Catering. We honestly could not have been any happier with the service they provided, and we would strongly recommend them to anyone that's looking for a great caterer that flexible and easy to work with at an affordable price!

Our wedding was on Sat, June 18th 2011. My then fiance and I went to several tastings and were very concerned about the food at our wedding. We didn't want the "traditional" wedding fair-we were hoping for something a bit more "special".

When we did our tasting with Sam from Toast Catering, I knew we found what we were looking for. Sam was always quick to respond to our questions, and very accommodating. His food is amazing.

The actual wedding was better than we could ever imagine. The service was perfect and the courses were Sublime. Sam had more than enough staff on hand and it went off magically. Our guests are still commenting on how good the food was.

I do not think that I could write a review that would truly express my excitement about choosing TOAST catering for my wedding! My husband and I were sold the moment we met Sam and Kim. They greeted us with such warmth and enthusiasm when we met at the tasting. Not to mention, their food is unbelievable!

The food service at the wedding was flawless! Everything was delicious and the guests raved about all of the food the entire night! I managed to grab food throughout the night and it tasted just like it did at the tasting...no small feat to cook food for 130 that tastes the same as when cooked for 2!

Toast was the perfect choice for our wedding catering! My husband worked as a chef, so the quality of food was especially important to him. I wanted fresh, California style cuisine, with a so-cal emphasis. Quality of ingredients was especially important to us as was finding a caterer to match our budget.

Sam worked with us to create an AMAZING (seriously people couldn't stop complimenting us) menu that included everything on our wish list, at a price we could afford. TOAST made my wedding day perfect.

I was born and grew up in France, where i went to culinary school and worked as a pastry chef for a couple of years, so i am VERY picky about food. My now husband was introduced to gourmet food when we started dating, so when we decided to have our small (12 guests plus us two) wedding catered, we knew we wanted the best. I am glad we found them!

I contacted Sam (he is the chef, while his wife Kim coordinates) a couple of months ago and luckily they were available for my wedding day. We met a couple of days later at the reception site to discuss the menu, rentals and details.

We wanted a mix of american and french influences in the food and he did a great job at creating a menu that would reflect that for us.

Sam took care of rentals as well (one less thing for us to worry about) including table, chairs, linens, bar table, etc.

We communicated via email a few times and he was always very prompt at answering any of my questions.

The day of the wedding, Sam and Kim arrived on time (love that!) and set up the dining room just as i had imagined it, if not better. It was just perfect!

The food was delicious, the guests all commented on it saying it was the best food they'd ever had. I think i'm going to hear about our wedding food for a long time, which is exactly what i wanted!

We had the prosciutto-wrapped tiger shrimps as hors d'oeuvres, as well as kobe beef mini sliders, caprese skewers and Sam's famous quesadillas (highly recommended!). The main course was boeuf bourguignon (the best i've ever tasted!) with truffle mashed potatoes, and we had mini vanilla crème brûlées as well as a mini chocolate assortment to go along with the wedding cake.

Long story short, a disaster happened to our wedding cake the morning of, and we ended up getting a 15$ tiramisu cake from Ralphs. Sam and Kim made it look like it was a nice expensive cake with decorations, and everyone raved about it.

They were both extremely friendly, professional, and a pleasure to have around. Worth every penny! If you want the best for your wedding or other special event, call TOAST.

Now i must go try to re-create Sam's boeuf bourguignon because my husband liked it better than my recipe - they set the bar very high.

My new wife and I had our wedding scheduled for 10.2.10 at the MoPA in Balboa Park, and they asked us to use their preferred vendors. I’m often leery of going that route, but as I’d soon find, we hit the jackpot with Toast. We scoured through the 10 or so options, weeding out those we felt wouldn’t hit the mark, but right from the moment we saw Sam’s website, we knew we’d found our man. They cook everything onsite, they don’t use frozen repacked foods and sell them as their own, and they will even give you suggestions of what to look out for in your caterer, in the event you DON’T go with them. He has classic Southern French training, but is savvy in SW cuisine and has a knack for putting his twist on everything he prepares.

It was important for me to find a caterer for our wedding who understood my passion for food, and wouldn’t get offended when we wanted things a certain way. It was also a dealbreaker that I had to have food at my wedding that people would love, because let’s face it, wedding food generally sucks, plain and simple. Its large scale and soulless, and I’ve never left a wedding talking about the dinner. That all changed the night we got married.

When we did our tasting, at my request, he prepared two variations of each dish so we could choose which version we liked the best. He even quickly learned one of my dishes to be included on the menu, and he nailed it 100%, sight unseen (or untasted)! We had over 140 guests, and our selections were: Caprese skewers, curried-butternut squash bisque shooters, & open face ”Tamales” over fried corn cakes, all passed. Then we served my spinach/strawberry/goat cheese salad; before the entrees which included Hoisin-Beer braised short ribs, or Alaskan halibut with blood orange buerre blanc, both over saffron mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus, or butternut squash ravioli with sage butter and tomato coulis. I’ve never heard so many compliments over the food at a wedding, and I’m still getting rave reviews.

Sam will work within your budget to make it work for you, and try to help you be creative even when your budget isn’t as big as you’d like. He charges a very minimal service charge comparatively, and the staff he brought to my big day crushed it. They even helped my father in-law load all of the extra booze after the night was over…and there was a lot of it!

In the end, Sam and his team from Toast catering were amazing, and I’d recommend them 100x over.

Sam and Kim were so wonderful throughout the entire process of planning our wedding. First of all, the food was AWESOME, all of my guests raved about it! Our wedding was a little different, we had it in my parents' backyard and there wasn't a ton of seating, so Sam did a bunch of hor d'ouevres and small plates for us, but it still felt like a dinner because we had a first pass of lighter foods and then a second longer pass of heavier, more dinner-like food. Everything worked all really great and was really beautiful. Sam and Kim were always available for questions and tips and were so extremely helpful. The morning of the wedding was a crazy rush for me, and I don't know how it all came together, but I'm assuming the caterer and the florist somehow collaborated, because the tables all looked beautiful! Sam and Kim took just a couple of my ideas and then used their expertise to just make it happen. I loved them! Use them!

TOAST catering (Sam and Kim) were a pleasure to work with. They are a dynamic duo (Sam's cooking and Kim's coordinating)! The tasting was amazing, and free if you decided to use them, which we did. Their staff were courteous and professional and everything was right on time. They had great options for linens, etc. and were willing to work with our needs. Now, for the food. I am originally from Maryland and many of my family members and friends were going to be here for the wedding, so it was crucial that the crab cakes be authentic...and they were!!! One highly critical friend said that she has been to a lot of weddings and Sam's creations were, by far, the best hors d'oeuvres that she'd ever had. TOAST catering is an incredible value on top of it all. My husband and I highly recommend them.

After looking at countless caterers thatwanted to charge me an arm & a leg for food I wasn't all that excited about my wedding planner suggested Toast. From the second I saw the sample menu I knew it was perfect. Then when I saw how reasonable the price was I was sold. Everything was amazing. They couldn't keep the appitzer trys full, my guests were chasing them down! I even went without a cake so they made all my deserts (creme brule & cheesecake lollie pops) The food is all my guests can talk about. It's been 1 week & I've had people calling for their number ever since. Thank you so much for doing an amazing job.

From the moment I first spoke with Sam at TOAST, I knew that our wedding catering experience was going to be amazing. What we could not have imagined was the response our wedding guests would have to the food...even now (a month later) our family and friends are still raving about the kobe beef sliders, open faced pork tamales, mac & cheese and perfectly cooked tri-tip!

Sam & Kim were so open and friendly and willing to create a menu that reflected our personality while keeping an upscale flair and their signature style. The process of crafting the menu was fun, relaxed and the tasting helped me (the nervous bride) feel totally at ease. The food was fanstastic and Sam was so receptive to our suggestions. Kim provided plenty of options for the linens and rentals and made sure that the space would also reflect the feeling that we wanted for our wedding. TOAST helped us to stay within our budget without sacrificing any elegance! Working with the two of them was more like working with two friends than with a large company where you might be treated like just another client or event. We sincerely appreciated the personal touch.

The wedding itself went of without a hitch and the TOAST event staff was so helpful and pleasant. Though my husband and I were scurring around greeting guests (as I'm sure it goes at most weddings) the staff made sure to save us a tray of appetizers and always kept our glasses full! They checked on us constantly throughout the night to make sure we could sneak bites of dinner and our guests continually commented on the beautiful display of food and drinks.

We are SO thrilled at the product, value and service we received from Sam & Kim at TOAST. We would give them the highest recommendation for any wedding or event!

I went into planning my wedding thinking that the food wasn't a priority, after all people don't remember the meal and couples don't even get to eat their plates right? If you go with TOAST, you will find that neither is true! We received lots of comments from our guests about how much they loved the food and we did too!

In Fall of 09 we had our wedding reception at the Museum of Photographic Art (MOPA) and TOAST was one of their recommended vendors. After looking at the other vendors we decided on TOAST because of their quick response and tasty looking menu! We had a great experience with Sam and Kim! In addition to being flexible with the food options they tailored their services to our budget. Even though we live in the LA area, working with Sam and Kim was as easy as if we were in San Diego. As a preferred vendor at MOPA they worked seamlessly with the MOPA event staff.

We highly recommend TOAST for your next special event! They made sure that our wedding was a meal to remember!

I said "I do" on Saturday, November 9th, and it was the best decision I ever made. Another great choice I made was saying "I do" to Toast Catering, and having them cater our reception. We had a DIY at Levyland Estate in Carlsbad. A DIY wedding is no small feat for my new husband and I, who have regular 40+-hour/week jobs, and were planning this wedding on our own, along with a close cousin. Toast's Kim and Sam Benham and staff were amazing.

From the very beginning, with initial e-mail correspondence, Kim was our main point-of-contact, trying to figure out our needs and the kind of reception we wanted to have. They were absolutely patient and kind with us, and kept everything absolutely organized.

The day of the reception was incredible. I've included a photo of our set-up at Levyland, handled by Kim and her staff. One of my favorite servers was Teresa, who made sure that our bridal party was taking part in appetizers and drinks while we were taking photos (they really don't overlook any detail and make sure that the bridal party is able to enjoy the food/drinks midst all the crazy excitement).

I also had no idea that the wedding cake that our close friend had made for us, had basically flown out of her car in transit. Who was there to save the day? One of Toast Catering's chefs! I had no clue there was this behind-the-scenes excitement until my friend pulled me aside and showed me the play-by-play of what could have been a wedding cake disaster. This is the kind of group you'd be working with if you hire on Toast Catering: people who will go that extra mile to make your wedding as smooth as possible.

We hired Toast Catering for our wedding reception. What first drew us to them was their price as compared with other caterers in the area. We did three tastings. One with Toast and the two others with larger companies. During our tasting with Toast we felt like we had gone over to a friend's house for dinner. They allowed us to eat alone and weren't hovering around like the other places. We were able to talk about the food. They gave us full plates of all the entree choices (we couldn't finish it all!). After we ate they sat with us to talk about things, and then we ended up just chatting about life. I truly felt like we had found some untapped secret in them! During the rest pf the process they were very available via e-mail and always responded either the same day or within a few days. I wouldn't suggest emailing them on a Thursday-Sunday and expect a response because they are busy with prepping for events. They were able to meet with us at the venue for a walk through and go over the day. They accommodated last minute changes. During the event I honestly didn't see or talk to them at all I don't think, but everything ran smoothly. The food was amazing, and some of our guests even went to the kitchen to ask if there were any extra plates they could have as seconds! I don't remember eating (bride problem LOL) but they sent us home with dinners and we enjoyed them in our hotel room after the wedding. Their staff was attentive and everything looked absolutely gorgeous. We are truly thankful we were able to find and hire Toast Catering and I would recommend them to anyone who asks in the future.

Our wedding planner referred us to TOAST and a few other caterers. From the start of our menu selection to the day of the wedding, our decision to work with TOAST was very well made.

Sam was extremely flexible to work with and open to our ideas on what we wanted on for our buffet dinner. We even traded recipes in order to come up with what we liked best. He had great suggestions on alternatives to the standard fare and created a menu that everyone raved about ... mahi mahi fish tacos, mac n cheese, ny strip, and more.

Sam and his entire staff are very professional and helpful, our guests were certainly treated to excellent service from the first passed appetizers to dessert. And, not only did the food taste great, the presentation was beautiful.

And all the other stuff, like contracts and communications on menu were handled an the most prompt manner.

We would highly recommend TOAST !

Excellent caterer for MCASD wedding

We were very pleased with the food and service from Toast Catering at our recent LGBTQ wedding at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego in La Jolla. Our budget was discussed upfront and Toast was able to put together a wonderful buffet meal that met all expectations. Guests loved the food as much as we did! Toast also ensured, even with a buffet set-up, that our vegetarian guests got a plated option. Early on we went through a few rounds of proposals which took slightly longer than we would have hoped, but that was also part of our learning curve working with a catering vendor.

It was a pleasure to work with Toast catering for our wedding for a worry free experience. Their appetizers were hearty in comparison to other caterers we had tried. The food was excellent and they presented each guest with a meal that was consistent with what we had tasted at the tasting. Everyone commented on how great the food was. They were true professionals and naturally fell into sync with all other vendors with little or no direction from us. They were very accommodating to our special need for a Persian dish which added pizzaz to our wedding.

Sam and Kim did a fabulous job this October for my daughter's wedding in Carlsbad. The food and service were first class; so many compliments from our guests. I highly recommend Toast for anyone planning a wedding, they will not disappoint.

The food was fantastic! The cost was a bit much, but in the end, it was worth it. We had a Persian wedding and their Gormeh Sabzi is fabulous.

Vegetarian Meal all the way

When we scheduled our first tasting, they had such a lovely display, with a Power Point presentation of what to expect and their food was great. Throughout COVID and drastic changes in our wedding guest count, there were some hiccups along the way with responsiveness and working with their rental company. However, in the end it was all MARVELOUS. We had the ahi poki tacos, slides and eggplant bites for our apps and the vegetarian wellington was AMAZING.

Toast catered our wedding reception at the Central Library a few weeks ago. If this review was based on the food or on the customer-service, I would be giving them a five-star review.

The food was wonderful and we got a lot of compliments. And what can I say, Sam and Kim are sweet people. But this review is based on the totality of their service.

Our service agreement told us we would have 3 bartenders all working at the same time (until later in the night.) I never saw 3 bartenders working at once. The line for drinks was always long and nobody likes that.

We were also told that we would have champagne service (for the toast) and wine service during dinner. The champagne was only filled once. (Fine, I get it.) But the wine was never refilled. The least they could have done was put the open bottles on the table so people could serve themselves. It would better than not having wine with dinner at all.

We would have been willing to pay for more people to work the event if that's what they needed to get the job done. My concern with Toast, is that I don't think they knew what they needed to know in order to get the job done.

Don't count Toast out if you're looking for someone to cater your event. Like I said, they are great people and Sam is a great chef. But don't rely on them to give you advice on what is needed for a larger event.

Cost outweighs any benefit

Tasted at Toast for a wedding caterer. Polite and generally helpful to work with. OBSCENELY expensive just for a tasting. I understand a nominal fee, however $80/couple seems outrageous. The food provided was run of the mill and not at all worth it. We ultimately did not select them as we found a better quality (food/value) vendor.
