The staff at Thornewood are amazing to work with! Brittany was wonderful at explaining how the day would flow and helping us figure out the best room layout. The entire team was incredibly efficient—setups and room transitions were handled quickly and seamlessly, making the day feel effortless.

    Amazing venue!

Getting married at the castle was truly a fairytale come true. The ceremony in the gardens were stunning and the indoor venue allowed us to have a more intimate experience. The staff were flexible and extremely responsive throughout our experience. Based on prior reviews, we stayed overnight so that we could get ready in the rooms and added 2 hours so as not to feel rushed throughout the day. It did get quite hot in the dance room though (and ours was rainy day in the 60s-70s). Overall, it was the best venue we saw.

    Thornewood Castle's reply:

Thank you Nathalie for the kind words! Your wedding was absolutely stunning and we are very happy to hear how much you enjoyed your special day! Onto a lifetime of happiness!

    March wedding was a dream!

We got married at Thornewood Castle in March! We knew it was taking a gamble on being able to have our ceremony outside in the garden where we had hoped to have it. We ended up having to move to our contigency plan day of due to rain and I am so happy we did. The natural light that comes through the windows is so incredibly romantic. It was more our wedding than we even could have imagined it to be. We are so grateful with the venues flexibility in waiting to the very last minute for which plan we were going to have them set up. Highly recommend getting married here, the venue staff is amazing to work with and very professional. I feel like they thoroughly explained their policies, we had zero surprises!

    Amazing outdoor wedding!

We toured more than enough venues and the second we saw Thornewood Castle we knew it was our venue. The staff is so professional…the best part was getting a response almost instantly any day of the week. When planning it’s very helpful to have quick responses like we got with them. We got married on the back lawn over looking the lake and moved inside for dinner. The garden was stunning, we did a majority of our family photos in the garden. Only negative thing I would say is the cut off by 10, we knew that going in and we still would not have chosen different.

    Summer Wedding at Thornewood Castle

Thornewood Castle staff was absolutely amazing! They provide all the tables, chairs and table linen! It’s set up before you get your venue access which is so helpful. It could not have been a more perfect day. Highly suggest getting married in the garden with dinner on the back lawn. I can’t tell you enough how amazing each of the spaces are. Brittany and Corey were so helpful throughout the entire process.

    Thornewood Castle's reply:

Thank you Melanie! We are so happy you chose Thornewood Castle to be apart of such a magical day! From the floral to all 3 of your dresses it was a fairytale wedding. We look forward to seeing pictures!

    6/5 Stars!

Thornewood Castle was the perfect place for our wedding. The staff was incredible to work with - Brittany and Corey took care of every detail and were so helpful. One of the best thing about Thornewood was they provided a list of preferred vendors, these vendors were all 5 star and knew the ins and outs of working at Thornewood. 5/5 stars, if I could give it 6 stars, I would!!

    Thornewood Castle's reply:

Simon, thank you so much for the review! We are truly grateful and honored to have been apart of your wedding day! We can not wait to see the pictures! Cheers to a lifetime of love to the two of you, and thank you both for your service!

    Thornewood was everything we wanted!

Thornewood Castle exceeded our expectations, creating an absolutely unforgettable wedding day. Its timeless charm and rich history provided the perfect backdrop for our celebration. The castle's beauty and intricate details were so picturesque that the venue stood on its own, requiring minimal additional decoration. We were overjoyed to share such a stunning venue with our loved ones. The anticipation from our guests to explore the castle and its grounds added to the excitement leading up to our special day. An additional bonus of the venue is that it doubles as a hotel. Having our families stay overnight at the castle added an extra touch of magic because it extended the celebration and it also made the morning preparations on our wedding day incredibly convenient. Given that Thornewood Castle is located in Washington and because we were getting married in April, rain was a concern. We loved that Thornewood Castle has a goregous indoor and outdoor option. We didn't end up having any rain on our wedding day, but we still decided to get married inside because of how beatiful the castle's interrior is.

The exceptional support and dedication of Brittany, Corey, and Kiera were invaluable in ensuring that our wedding day went flawlessly. From managing the complex aspects of the event to attending to every detail, they effortlessly orchestrated the day, which allowed us to relax and fully embrace the joy of the occasion. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Thornewood Castle for being wonderful to work with and for the role they all played in making our wedding weekend everything we hoped it would be. Their event-planning expertise and genuine passion for their venue were evident. We highly recommend Thornewood Castle and its incredible staff to anyone in search of an extraordinary wedding venue.

    Thornewood Castle's reply:

Hayley! WOW. Thank you for the detailed review. We are so grateful to have been apart of everything that your wedding was. Your guests to your wedding décor it was such a pleasure to be apart of it.

    Dream Venue

Communication: really great, always got responses by the next day at the latest when I contacted them via email. The tone of the emails was always very kind and professional, and they were always very helpful. For everything they had us do, they provided explanations of what it was, how to do it, and why they required it. They also shared recommendations for vendors that had worked with them before.

Working with them: they were very understanding with any problems we had and had no hidden fees that weren't disclosed before booking. They were not as strict as I thought they would be and worked with us to adjust little things all the way up until the last week. I asked them to set up 14 fewer chairs the night before the wedding and they did. They really worked with us to make everything run smoothly.

Structure: the monthly payment plan made sense and helped us afford the venue. We had an initial tour before booking where they showed us the castle and the garden, walked us through possibilities and limitations, estimated prices, gave a few vendor recommendations, and answered every question we could think of. All of the paperwork was done over email so I didn't even have to do a second trip until the final walk-through a month before the wedding.

Aesthetics: this was of course the best part! If you're looking at booking this venue, you've probably already seen the pictures. It's even more gorgeous in person. The venue decorates itself. We didn't buy any decorations other than led candles. We got some greenery from around my husband's parents' yard and used that and the led candles for all of our decorations. That was it! And it looked beautiful! The art on the walls, the ceilings, the banister, the crystal decorations, everything was just so elegant and beautiful. 10/10 would recommend.

Contract: Make sure you go over the contract with them and confirm details. The contract had a typo in the insurance section and I ended up having to cancel what I had bought and pay for a higher amount a few weeks before the wedding. This was the only bad part of my experience with Thornewood, but I am sure they have fixed the contract now so it probably won’t be a problem for anyone else! Other than that, the contract was rather easy to read and well organized. It was easy to refer back to it during the planning process!

    Thornewood Castle's reply:

Thank you very much for this fantastic and detailed review. We enjoyed working with you every step of the way and we are happy that you loved the castle as much as we do. The staff at Thornewood Castle wishes you a lifetime of love and happiness.

    Perfect Murder Mystery Birthday Party!

Thornewood castle is such a beautiful unique venue. We had a 1920's theme murder mystery birthday party and it was perfect. We rented the entire castle. The rooms are so beautiful and well kept. The staff was amazing, helpful, and on point. I can't wait for another reason to have an event there!

    Thornewood Castle's reply:

    Affordable Wow! Factor

We held our wedding reception at Thornwood this October and we had an amazing evening. It fit our spooky theme perfectly and it was the clear choice against competitors as it comes with a beautiful location, grounds that our guests loved to explore and a vibe that is unmatchable. It was also one of the more affordable options in the area which was a massive plus. I wish more guests could've stayed that night but the ones who did had an unbelievable night in after our event and enjoyed exploring the halls and the art. The staff was unbelievably helpful and worked with us to make sure our surprise drag performance went off without a hitch!

    Thornewood Castle's reply:

Hello Jess, we at Thornewood Castle would like to thank you for bringing the Sanderson Sisters and having such a wonderful and entertaining event. We are overjoyed that we could help make your special night even better and wish the two of you a lifetime of happiness.

Great experience, no hidden requirements with payments or restrictions

I had the pleasure of organizing my wedding at Thornewood Castle. The staff helped us with selecting the setup for our wedding and reception. The staff were thorough with their requirement list and there were no surprises. When the venue is booked for 6 hours, the wedding party is not allowed to enter the premises before that. There were 2 bars to be selected from and we have an option of using the decor that was in place. The tables, chairs and table cloths were provided to us and was included in the cost. Upon our request the staff even provided us with buffet tables. The garden was absolutely beautiful for hosting the ceremony. The event ran pretty smooth as we had built in sufficient time for set up and tear down.

    Thornewood Castle's reply:

Thank you Shalaka! We are pleased to hear your day was exactly as you imagined it to be, and we appreciate you taking the time for this review! Cheers to a lifetime of love!

    Chan and Krista wedding

This venue was amazing, the weather was perfect. I suggest getting Mered in the garden and plan for a sunny day because it’s worth it. This place also had beautiful views of the American lake. We are so happy we got married here and I recommend this to anyone who wants to have a dream castle wedding. Thanks again for everything you have done for us.

    My summer wedding 08.19.22

My hubby and I recently had our wedding(08.19.22) at Thornewood Castle! This was the best decision we made in celebrating our happiness with our family and friends! The staff was very professional and communicated with us during our entire wedding preparation and until our wedding
day. Thank you Amber and Christian! Thornewood gave us what we were looking for in a venue, wanted a venue; history, style, and class. Thornewood Castle provided us with an endless variety of space, leisure, and photos for our wedding guests! The venue is very large with private gating. Thornewood Castle is one of the only few active castles here in the US and if you plan to stay here or even host an event, it is worth it!!! Thornewood Castle made our wedding day magical with it's majestic and scenic views of its entirety, American lake, and their secret garden! Thank you so much Thornewood Castle for making our special day a truly unforgettable event of our lifetime!!!

    Fairytale Wedding!

Thornewood venue and the staff were amazing. It truly was a fairytale wedding and dream come true for us on our special day! I only wish we had more time in the venue as this location has a hard stop time of 9 pm due to being in a residential neighborhood. We knew that rule going into the contract and so it wasn't a surprise but we still weren't ready for our day to end when it came down to it.

    Beautiful and Luxurious

Having our wedding at Thornewood Castle was amazing. We have always admired a fairy tale wedding and I’m glad that’s what we got! The staff are also nice and very accommodating. After the wedding, we also stayed the night in Anna’s Suite and it was a nice final ending note to the day :)

My now husband Toney and I searched for the perfect venue for a while. Based on a friend's suggestion we checked out Thornewood. It was breathtaking and felt special. The premise is in a very quiet neighborhood and is perfect for a fairytale ceremony. After the friendly walk through with Christiana, we were set to book the Thornewood Castle! They provided a preferred vendor list; we ended up hiring most of our vendors from that list and very happy. They allow outside vendors as well as BYOB which is a huge plus! We postponed our wedding (due to COVID), and the owner and everyone was very accomodating. The total rent hour @ the venue was 6 hours and we had a very short and sweet ceremony; I would say to consider extending hours. While our wedding was perfect, we could have enjoyed this beautiful venue a bit more by extending an hour or two. Everyone had so much compliments to make about the venue - it was very gorgeous, peaceful, and intimate. Would highly recommend to couples thinking of dream-come-true wedding at a classic & classy venue, this is it!

Wonderful consultation/ walkthrough of the property. The photographs featured in any website or social media doesn't give justice

The property captured my heart. The walkthrough of the castle was amazing. The photographs don't give justice to this wonderful piece of artwork that has been standing strong over the decades. It's one of a kind and must visit. I'm honored to get married here.

    Thornewood Castle's reply:

Thank you for your kind words! We are so excited to get to work with you and host your wedding. Happy planning, let us know if you need anything.

    Thornewood castle!!

The castle is beautiful inside and out. We decided on an indoor wedding since both the groom and I would run from the altar at the first sign of a bee so having it indoors made sense. Also since it will be at the end of April you never know what the weather will be like. The staff that gave us the tour were very helpful answering all of our questions and once we agreed we wanted the wedding there gave us a large packet with info including a list of vendors that they know well but you are free to hire anyone you want it doesn't have to be from the list. She said people have had pizza delivered, bbqs, potluck style, all kinds of stuff, the only thing is things have to be ready without the use of a kitchen since theirs is very small. But overall a wonderful place that has staff ready to help with any questions or concerns.

My daughter and her husband were married in the sunken, secret garden, followed by a cocktail hour on the front lawn, dinner lakeside, dancing inside the castle, followed by sparkler send-off. The venue is just gorgeous and the experienced staff were top notch to work with. A wonderful experience from initial walk-thru, throughout the planning process to the actual event. It was whimsical, sophisticated and magical. Highly recommended.

This is a beautiful venue! I loved that we would have a gorgeous ceremony - rain or shine! It was nice weather for the ceremony - but clouded up and rained a bit later. We still got incredible photos. The staff is very friendly and worked to make sure that the entire day fit our vision.

The entire wedding party stayed at the castle that night. Everyone raved about the rooms. A couple of our guests have food allergies and Thornewood accommodated them easily - and their food was delicious, too!

We highly recommend Thornewood Castle and are looking forward to returning for our anniversary!

Thornewood Castle was the best venue for both our wedding ceremony & reception. It was perfect for our simple, romantic, and elegant wedding. There’s no need for a lot of decorations. Every angle is picture perfect. Even the staff are very convenient to work with.

My husband and I feel so lucky to have been able to get married at Thornewood Castle. Every inch of the property is breathtaking. Our guests really enjoyed walking the grounds, checking out the details inside and out. We didn't want a huge wedding, but we did want a place that was beautiful and had character. Thornewood gave us everything we wanted in a venue.

This is the most beautiful and romantic place & I am so happy we had our wedding here. Luckily we were able to have our wedding done in the English sunken garden and even though it was cloudy, it was still so beautiful. The staff at Thornewood were very gracious and so nice to work with. I just cant say enough about this venue. So beautiful and you don't need any real decorations, as this place is just beautiful on its own. Me and my husband also stayed the night in Annas Suite, which is amazing. Loved this place, perfect place for a wedding. THANK YOU THORNEWOOD/ we have so many good memories of our wedding and look forward to coming back

We had our wedding at Thornewood Castle and couldn't have imagined a more amazing venue to marry my husband. The owner and staff were so helpful and caring. Being married here was the best choice I could have made (besides my choice of groom, of course). It was a dream come true!

Beautiful venue, very helpful staff that were there but not highly visible.

Many of our guests have told us they loved the place and thought it was a wonderful choice. The sunken garden worked perfect and had an amazing backdrop for pictures and ambiance.

We stayed the night and were the only guests in the building so after all the guests were gone, the owners turned the lights on in the garden. we sat on the steps we just got married on and enjoyed a glass of wine as we reflected on a wonderful day.

I can honestly say have no complaints...

I couldn't have asked for, found or picked a better venue for our wedding day! Thornewood is the complete package like no other. The venue itself will put your guests in a constant state of awe. The sunken English garden is spectacular in the summer/fall for an outdoor wedding. Also, jaw-dropping. Having our ceremony and reception in the same place was so convenient for us and for our guests, which allowed the day to not drag (like some can...) and it kept our guests entertained.

Thornewood's staff was incredible. With the rental of the venue comes use of their tables, linens, chairs, staff, parking lots and parking attendants. They worked directly with our other vendors and even the tent people, becuase there was a chance of rain. I wanted a garden wedding SO badly, and the owner, Deanna-worked with her staff up until the last minute to accommodate this. (not only for the ceremony, but where our dinner tables went, inside or out-catering, inside or out, etc etc)
Yes, The prices at Thornewood can be off-putting for some, but honestly-if you have it or can manage it-its worth every single penny and even more. Considering that so many of the included amenities (listed above) would cost you extra anyway-its almost a wash. I visited almost every venue imaginable in the greater Seattle Tacoma area. Thornewood may not be for everyone, but it was most definitely the perfect venue for us, and I have absolutely no regrets after getting married there.

Also, being a B&B, the wedding party stayed the night before, and the bride/groom and so many of the family stayed the night after, which was so nice to relax and enjoy the castle alone after the party was cleared out with your dearest and closest that decided to stay. We were brought breakfast in bed the morning after, which we enjoyed with a view of the garden where we shared our vows of love with the people that mattered most the day before.

I could think of no better place to have spent the best day of my life.

We were able to set up a time to come look at the castle, and that same day we booked our wedding date. They answered all my questions i had through email or over the phone. They provide staff to help with set up and take down. They make sure that everything goes smoothly on your special day! They have people to be parking attendants for your guests. Everything there is soooooooo gorgeous, you really didn't need to have very many decorations. The guests loved to come just for the fact that it was a castle. I have NOTHING to complain about! They had my room all ready for me to get ready in and everything went PERFECT

    Thornewood Castle's reply:

Thank you for your review! Our staff works hard to respond in a timely manner to our high volume of emails and phone calls, and it is of utmost importance to us that everything goes smoothly on a bride's wedding day. I love Thornewood castle and I was so pleased to have it as my venue for my wedding reception. It was beautifully decorated for Christmas and they were flexible in taking down different things so I could put up decorations for my wedding. In planning for my wedding it was very helpful to meet with Deanna and get everything planned out for the day. Although some of the staff was a little difficult the day of, and there isn't a ton of parking. I thought it all went smoothly. Knowing the limitations ahead of time allowed for me to plan ahead and let people know to carpool and such. The castle is beautiful and it was perfect for my wedding. It was also nice to stay in the castle that night, because then we didn't have to travel far after to our hotel and the room we stayed in was beautiful.

I got married here september 3rd 2010. We couldn't have chosen a more ideal date for our wedding. Due to the 80+ degree weather we were able to hold the ceremony and most of the reception outdoors in the GORGEOUS garden. Seeing as our wedding was a little unique (we chose a circus theme) the elegance of Thornewood really brought out the class and timeless feel we wanted to incorporate. None of our guests had to lift a finger. they had our tables, chairs, linens, and music set up before we even arrived! I honestly couldn't have asked for a more unique, elegant and careless wedding. Deanna, Miranda and staff helped walk us through all the necessary details and even suggested various ways of arranging to utilize our space and creativity. So, I'm giving thornewood two thumbs up for all their hard work and customer oriented service.

The castle itself is so beautfiul inside and out, that not much extra decorating is required..which was a huge plus when it came to our budget! The owner & staff were extremely nice and knowledgable. They've done many weddings, and can recommend various vendors they've worked with in the past if you're still struggling to find a caterer, wedding cake artist, D.J, etc. We had such a wonderful experience...our wedding guests are STILL talking about what a beautiful wedding it was..and my new husband and I will have fond memories of that day for many years to come!

We wanted a unique and beautiful space for our guests to enjoy. Our wedding had about 130 guests and it was the perfect space. If you want the most of your experience at Thornewood, pay for extra hours for that day. Spend the night the day before and night of. Read your contract word for word and ask for what you want. They are easy to work with but have strict rules set in place to protect this beautiful place. I also highly recommend using a DJ/MC from their preferred list- trust me, it will make your life so much easier!!

We held our wedding at Thornewood Castle and can't think of a more incredible, romantic setting anywhere. The grounds are immaculately maintained and the home is full of rich history and beautiful artifacts. The owner was so friendly and even got a little teary with me during our first visit to take a look.

Our wedding was held in the beautiful sunken garden and reception outside on the end and back of the house with a view of American Lake. Because the grounds were in full bloom, we didn't have to bring flowers in to decorate the spaces and only had to do bouquets, corsages and boutonnieres.

We opted to stay overnight in Anna's bridal suite and the bed was SO comfy! The room is beautiful and spacious with a small kitchenette (fridge, sink, etc) which was pretty handy for a late night snack. The only issue that we experienced is that it took about 20 minutes for hot water to start flowing and the room only has a bath with a handheld shower head. We easily overlooked this and chalked it up to the charm/age of the building. It was 90F outside but there was a wonderful air conditioner in the room so we were really comfy.

We went with vendors that were recommended by Thornewood (Snuffin's Catering, Wallflower Photography, Julia's Florals) and we loved working with each of them. It really helps to work with vendors that know Thornewood and have worked together before as protecting this beautiful estate means they have a rules that these vendors are already aware of.

Tips: Getting in touch with someone from Thornewood is always better via phone than email.

You can't go wrong with any event at Thornewood ... it is truly breathtaking. We will be back to celebrate many anniversaries!

    An unforgettable wedding

My husband and I were so happy with not only having our wedding at this beautiful venue, but also receiving great service from everyone.
Because this is a popular venue we didn't get our first choice for the wedding date so that is the only negative comment I have about it which is not their fault.

    Worth it and Stunning Venue

Staff: The staff does so many weddings they truly are a well oiled machine for both the walkthrough and the day of. We communicated with them often because we began contacting them before we were able to actually book. As soon as we were able to book we did. They had a great package (folder) they provided to us on the day we did the walkthrough. It had a breakdown on pricing, as well as what comes with the venue. What is allowed/what is not allowed. The website was also great at explaining why it is a great choice to hold your wedding at this particular venue. When I arrived the day of the wedding, one of the staff members greeted me, told me where to park and took my wedding dress upstairs for me. They also worked with my day of coordinator all day to ensure everything went smoothly from beginning to end.

Venue: The venue is gorgeous. The perfect backdrop for all your photos. Everyone in attendance spoke about how beautiful it was from the beginning to end. We got married in the sunken garden and that is truly what sold us on the venue. The dining room and area for dancing were also stunning as well.

Venue Rules: The venue does have strict rules as far as time allowed on the venue, music being played outside, and smoking on the premises, but it is important to note that the castle is in a gated community and it is a hotel, it is not just a wedding venue. We had a beautiful wedding, we paid for additional hours to gain access to the venue earlier, and we ensured all the vendors were off the premises in a timely manner. It was a complete success and I have memories/photos to cherish for the rest of our lives.

    Amazing venue

Thornewood is a spectacular place to get married and was not only magical but such a warm-hearted place to get married! I would have loved if guests had not been allowed to go up the stairs as much, as I understood that'd be patrolled for only parents. It was a bit overwhelming trying to get people to go back downstairs! Overall, an incredible experience!

It doesn't take very much decorating if any since the castle itself is breathtaking !!!! I know it's a little pricier then some venues but it is so worth it !!!!!!!!!! It helped make the wedding spectacular !!! It was a dream come true!!

    Thornewood Castle's reply:

Thank you so much for taking the time to write us such a wonderful review! We feel privileged to have been chosen to be part of your special day. Congratulations and best wishes!

Thronewood Castle is a beautiful wedding venue. The castle, garden, and grounds really speak for themselves. You don't have to spend as much on flowers and decor because everything is already so beautiful and ornate. Stephanie was great to work with. She was patient with our many questions, fast at responding by email, and really helped make everything run smoothly on the big day. No need to worry about a contingency plan for weather because they will move everything inside for you. The only thing is that we would have liked to get ready on site, but all the rooms were booked the night before, so plan and book early.

    Thornewood Castle's reply:

We are so glad you had such an awesome experience at the castle and we were able to make it as smooth as possible. Congrats on a beautiful wedding and thank you for taking the time to share such wonderful words about us!

    Gorgeous location!

Chose this venue for my wedding, and could not have been happier! Every one is so nice and helpful, they answer questions via email in a timely manner and are just all around friendly and so polite to work with! If you are thinking about booking this venue, do it! Woth every single penny! Love that they let you do payments on event rental cost, made my dream day come true!

    Fairytale Wedding Venue

Once I toured Thornewood, I knew that I wanted to celebrate there on my wedding day! My husband and I were married at our home church and held our photographs and reception at Thornewood castle. While the historic estate is expensive, it is well worth the cost. The interior and exterior of the castle are awe-inspiring and wonderfully decorated. I loved how little I had to do to have the fairy-tale reception of my dreams!

    Thornewood Castle's reply:

Thank you Jessica, we were so happy to be apart of your special day! From the moment you two drove up in that car we knew it was going to be a beautiful evening. Cheers to a lifetime of love you two!

    wedding venue

Thornewood Castle was the most beautiful wedding venue for our summer wedding. The sunken garden was in full bloom, and made all of our wedding dreams come true! There really is no other venue in Washington like this one. It was perfect for our outdoor ceremony and dinner, followed by dancing in the ballroom. Thornewood was very accommodating in the planning process of our wedding, and helpful in suggesting vendors that had worked with the castle before. Thank you for making our dream wedding turn into reality!

    Elegant, Historic, Fairytale Wedding Venue

My husband and I held our wedding at Thornewood Castle August 2018. I selected Thornewood because I had a vision in mind of an elegant, fairytale, destination wedding in Europe without having to leave WA. Thornewood Castle was stunning and fit our whimsical, sophisticated, Scottish highlands/classic garden wedding theme to a T. The grounds are stunning English garden style, beautiful statues and spectacular architecture and decor inside and out. The location on American Lake was lovely as well. Our guests are still talking about how very beautiful everything was, the garden is just to die for! Inside the beautiful wood, paintings, staircase, fireplace, stained glass windows and statues complete the feeling of being in your own classic fairytale. Plenty of room inside and out, we had a guest count of 130. Leanne was a good contact, responsive and clear and the walkthrough of the venue was helpful. I would recommend having a day of coordinator of your own to help coordinate your event though.

Thornewood is very upfront about what the do and do not allow, we were willing to be ok with only having music outside during the ceremony and their strict start and end times, as the pros of hosting our wedding at this venue mattered more. Be cautious of your guest count/adding extra hours/ knowing that they do not allow you or vendors to be on the grounds before the time you’ve paid for. This is why I gave three stars for flexibility. To others this might be something to consider.

My guests had an amazing time, we are currently gushing over the photos. My husband and I stayed the night at the Castle in the Presidential Suite, the room was absolutely gorgeous with a huge bed, view of the lake, and hot tub bath. Only other note, I have Celiac Dusease, so no gluten, and I am severely allergic to dairy and eggs. For breakfast i was assured that they would make a meal especially for me, but I was served toast, eggs, and yogurt... All in all I still give Thornewood Castle five stars and would highly recommend. It was the most beautiful venue, every place I looked at afterwards completely paled in comparison.

Thornewood was a dream-- the venue was beautiful, staff was helpful, responsive and answered questions promptly. We added two extra hours and wish we had gotten more, the day flew by. We stayed the night of the wedding and they upgraded our suite so that was really nice! They provide groomsmen and bridesmaids rooms for the time you have the venue rented. They have a list of preferred/ recommended vendors, use it. It helps when your vendors are familiar with the venue, Thornewood is also a Bed and Breakfast & part of a neighborhood, so there are several rules and restrictions (nothing unreasonable).

    Thornewood Castle's reply:

We are so grateful that you chose to celebrate with us and that you enjoyed your wedding so much! Thank you and we hope you have a happily ever after.

Thornewood is GORGEOUS and worth every penny! We got married in August so you pay more for the peak season but trust me we are so happy. We had our ceremony and reception at Thornewood and we used the garden for our ceremony and it was fabulous. It was prettier than any other venue we looked at and they provided tables, chairs, linens, and the best sunsets. People had warned me that they were very strict with their rules like no outside music other than during the ceremony and you have to have everyone out by 10 pm, but nothing they ask is unreasonable. We loved our wedding and we felt that Thornewood was a fairy tale wedding that we could have only dreamt of being so perfect. Our guests loved the historical aspect of the castle and spent a great deal admiring the grounds inside and out. A good tip I got when we were researching venues was if you want an outdoor ceremony to find a place that is just as beautiful inside so if the weather isn't agreeable and you need to go inside you won't be devastated because the inside is just as beautiful. Thornewood fit this description perfectly. The staff is incredibly kind and helpful organizing things the day of, but there is one person who was difficult to get email responses from, but otherwise they are thorough with their answers. We are incredibly grateful for the chance to have our big day there and stay the night in the Grandview room as the venue doubles as a B & B. Thanks Thornewood for the lifelong memories we made there!

    Thornewood Castle's reply:

We are so glad you enjoyed your time here, we loved having you. Watching the two of you dance and sing together during the wedding was truly touching and one could tell your marriage will be full of happiness. We at Thornewood are honored to be a part of your love story. Thank you for spending your time with us.

Thornewood is a beautiful location, I had read some unflattering reviews, but decided to give it a chance anyway. I did not run into any of the problems that were laid out in those reviews, but there were a few things like how they can't move the very heavy, long tables (which is understandable, I just wish that maybe this was more clearly communicated? There was almost a year between the booking and my wedding so it is possible I just forgot.)

On the wedding day I was pretty impressed with the representative they had there, I want to say her name was Stephanie, but it was so hectic that I am not sure that I quite got it. She did a great job directing people and keeping an eye on everything. She was even very helpful when I needed a couple little things handed to me and couldn't get them because of my restricted motion from my dress. There were also some people there who weren't on permanent staff that were slightly less helpful, one of them moved the sparklers for our exit and failed to mention this to anyone, we were running around for 15 minutes looking for them before they realized and told us that they had put them in the study, which was not a room we were using for our wedding. Not a big deal, but it did add to the stress of trying to get everything cleaned out on time.

Still, I can honestly say it was a wonderful experience and I can't wait to get all the photos!

    Thornewood Castle's reply:

Thank you so much Alexandria for your review. It was a pleasure being able to help you on your special day. It truly was a beautiful wedding and we hope you are enjoying your new married life! Congrats again and we look forward to seeing you again for your anniversary.

This was a absolutely beautiful venue. We had our ceremony in the sunken English garden and reception in the hall and lawn overlooking the lake. Everyone commented at how beautiful the estate was! Because of its' setting we saved money on decor, which was not really needed. Also if you are not picky - book your event on a weekday, it saved us $1000! Deanna, the owner, was a lovely woman and we enjoyed working with her. I would highly recommend this venue for an unforgettable event.

You get what you pay for. We just had our wedding there, and it was perfect. It is pretty expensive, but it is worth. We got married in the secret garden, all the flowers were in bloom. The weather was in our favor, and I couldn't ask for anything more.

We had our wedding here on March 20, 2016 and it was beautiful! Unfortunately it rained heavily that day so we had to have it inside and being that it was a full military wedding we had to do some maneuvering around but the staff was amazing. The new manager is a dream to work with and I am very thankful she took over to help make it such a seamless process. We couldn't be happier with the results and are very excited to see the wedding photos when they are finished. The best part about this location is you can save so much money on decorations, it is so beautiful you really don't need much to make your day special. It is worth every penny and honestly it is very reasonable considering what you get for the price. Thank you Thornewood staff for helping make our day so memorable.

Absolutely wonderful venue. The staff were professional and friendly. We did very little decorating as the rooms and gardens were so beautiful. As this is a running bed and breakfast there are some strict restrictions on time etc. but understandable under the circumstances. Would definitely recommend

    Wedding Venue 2024

I just got married at Thornewood in August 2024. The venue is incredibly gorgeous and in a great location. The staff here are so responsive and helpful - I would email with a question and get a response back the same day. The venue is pretty flexible with vendors and they didn't require us to use any specific vendor. They don’t allow hard alcohol, but that wasn’t an issue for us since we were planning to go with beer and wine anyway.
Con’s: the pricing structure here. The base prices seem low and fair but then you add guests or hours and the price seemed to skyrocket for us. The price we paid in the end was much more than what we initially thought it would be. We added hours, but the hourly rate was almost an extra $1k per hour after tax (they don’t give you enough hours in the base rate). The venue also doesn’t allow amplified speakers outside except for the ceremony, so speeches were a struggle for our outdoor reception.

    Thornewood Castle's reply:

Thank you Ilona for your kind words and for choosing our venue for your special day! We're delighted to hear that you had a positive experience and that our team helped make your wedding memorable. We truly value your feedback on our pricing structure. While we strive to provide exceptional service and a beautiful venue, we understand that pricing is important and we are always reviewing our offerings to ensure we deliver the best value. Thank you again for your feedback, and we wish you all the best in your future together!

    Stunning Wedding

This venue was a dream come true. Our wedding was stunning, the pictures in it are fabulous and our guests can't stop talking about it. I don't have anything negative to say about our experience, the staff was incredible and constantly worked with us to make our day perfect.

Thank you Chloey, we truly loved your wedding day. It was magical, the touch of pillows to the sofas was definitely an added element! We wish the two of you a lifetime of Love. We hope to have you back for an overnight stay for an anniversary in the future, cheers!

you have 6 hours at a castle. Yes, some venues allow 7+ hours, but thornewood is magnifient and you do not have to provide your own deorations because the castle itself needs no additions.

    Gorgeous venue, helpful staff

Not only is the venue drop dead gorgeous, but the staff is SUPER responsive to emails and were all incredibly helpful the day of the wedding. I didn't even hire a wedding coordinator due to how great their staff was. The venue price is high, but you don't really need to buy decorations and tables/chairs/tablecloths/candles are all provided. The room flip was super fast and my guests were all awed at the venue. They are strict on their policies, but as it's technically someone's house, they have to be! Just ask your questions ahead of time to not be surprised by policies.

Such a beautiful venue! My planner could not keep everyone out of the house while I was taking photos before my ceremony because everyone was so captured by the beauty of this castle. The owner is very strict about timelines so keep this in mind and it is a bit pricey. Even though it's a bit pricey, it's worth every penny. Plus, the venue supplies the tables, chairs, table clothes and provides set up of these items and will take care of everything if the ceremony must be moved inside from outside if it rains. I also didn't have to use many decorations so the price evened out in the end, in my opinion.

I was a little afraid about the timelines but everything worked out perfect. I did give a 3 star on responsiveness because it was hard to contact the venue via email and a few times I left phone messages and never received a call back. They were very responsive, however, closer to the date. Their flexibility is limited just because it's a very popular place.

    Thornewood Castle's reply:

Thank you for taking time to write a review for us!

We understand that things such as reception tables, ceremony and reception chairs, and tablecloths can add up, especially for larger weddings! So we include them in our wedding and reception packages to help bring down our brides' extra costs in that sense. We also offer centerpieces that all of our brides are able to use if they choose.

Living in the Pacific Northwest has its perks, but there is always the chance of rain here! We are unique in the fact that we have a "Plan B" for a rained-out ceremony, and it only takes minutes to set up, so we can wait until the last possible minute before making that final call.

We are so glad you had such a positive experience with us!

My new husband and I stayed at the Thornewood Castle on our wedding night in the Presidential Suite. It was AMAZING. I had never seen the castle, but am from the area so it was wonderful to learn some of the incredible history (it was brought over brick by brick from London). The grounds, garden, accommodations, views and food are some of the best in the area, AND we'll be going back for our anniversary to the b&b for the next 10 years (a gift from my mom & grandma). Highly recommended!

I only gave a 2.5 on flexibility because we weren't allowed to host a brunch there the morning after our wedding (which took place at the Olympia Country Club).

    Fairytale Venue

I loved having my wedding at Thornewood, the atmosphere was wonderful and they set up everything wonderfully and were very responsive to all questions that I had.

The one thing I will say is that you don’t have access to the venue for the entire day and charge extra for it which means potentially getting creative if you are going to do getting ready pictures.

There rules are a little strict, but overall I if I had to pick over again I would still choose this venue. It was a dream.

    Thornewood Castle's reply:

Thank you for your review Brianna, what a beautiful day! Thank you for sharing your photos with us, these are absolutely stunning.

I wanted a castle and I got a castle. Thornwood is an amazing property and the photos that we had taken turned out so beautiful. The ladies who I worked with were all really nice but I was at time a bit stress out with their inability to be flexible with times. Also I did not really like that other people who were not with my wedding party were wandering around the castle while we were having the ceremony and reception. All in all it was a great location and I am happy I choose it.

Thornewood is hands down the most beautiful venue in the Seattle/Tacoma area. From the first tour we were mesmerized by the beauty and charm of this incredible historic castle shipped over from Wales. We had a beautiful wedding and would definitely recommend Thornewood to anyone looking for a romantic setting. There are a few things that should be noted however: Thornewood is *incredibly* strict. Our photographer was not allowed to look around to find areas for us to do our first look in case it rained, until the exact time we had officially reserved the space for set-up (even though everyone was already there getting ready). All she wanted to do was look and they shooed her back upstairs to us. Really weird. We were not allowed to use petals for our flower girl so we figured something else out instead. They only allowed us to rent the space until 10pm due to a neighborhood noise ordinance, as the castle is located right in the middle of a residential neighborhood, taking away from the estate's ooo and aww factor. Finally, the most disappointing thing of all was trying to book our honeymoon suite with them 3 months in advance, only to find out that they had already allowed another couple not in our wedding to book it. On our wedding night. They say that they don't consider the bed and breakfast as a part of the wedding planning process and I have no idea why. If you have a room known as the honeymoon suite, why are you allowing others to book it on someone else's wedding night? This was a real bummer and instead of booking a different room we opted to stay somewhere else to get that honeymoon feel we were lacking. They really should tie that suite in to their wedding packages and allow you to book it up to a few months in advance before releasing it to the public. So just be forewarned.

Overall, a beautiful place and we don't have any regrets having our ceremony/reception here. Find a wedding planner who knows how to work with them and you'll be in good hands.

Anyone interested in 07/25/2021 for this venue, I want to transfer our contract for a lower rate.

Such a beautiful place! We booked this castle last year before the pandemic lockdown, the planned wedding time is on a weekend in July 2021 - 07/25/2021. Due to the travel ban, I don’t think our parents can make it, so we would love to transfer our contract to someone else whoever is interested in this date for a wedding. We paid over $5500 for this place. Now we would like to transfer it for a much lower rate: $3900 (negotiable). Please let me know if you are interested in this place and this date (07/25/2021). You can either text me or email me, my cell phone number is 281-624-9303, my email address: yongli.zhang520@gmail.com.

Beautiful venue and less expensive than you think

Great venue, very impressive. But it's hard to work with them because they won't let anyone do the set up until your 6 hours start. So, you can't start getting ready or makeup or catering set up until, say, 11am. They start set up, takes about an hour. It's 12pm, most brides are still getting ready until 1pm. Ceremony, then dinner at 1:30pm. Dinner for 2 hours, it's 3:30pm. Reception starts and you have to be out by 5pm for cleanup until 6pm. And that's assuming everything goes off without a hitch. We didn't have time for a reception because we were actually having fun during dinner. It costs $500 per hour after 6, so...yeah...

Beautiful venue the weather was perfect for a garden wedding. Staff was great to work with and coordinated with our fabulous wedding coordinator every step of the way.

Thornewood is an absolutely beautiful venue and was just what my husband and I were looking for! The venue is breathtaking and the team at Thornewood were very kind throughout our entire planning process. The only thing we struggled with were the very strict rules they enforced. It was difficult for our vendor team to get everything set up within an hour before our guests started to arrive and caused a lot of heartburn for our wedding team. We totally understood majority of the restrictions since the castle is in a residential area, but had trouble with a few of these rules.

But if you have a great vendor team who is willing to help you navigate through the day, this venue is a complete dream!

    Thornewood Castle's reply:

Thank you for the review. Your wedding was beautiful and we hope to see you back for your anniversary! Congratulations again Mr. and Mrs. Wanot!

Thornewood Castle was the ONLY place my daughter even considered for her Wedding. It was PERFECT for our Victorian Gothic Princess. The antiques were very authentic and the Holiday decorations were beautiful. We added some fabric overlays and centerpieces on the white linen tablecloths and it was GORGEOUS. WARNING This venue has STRICT RULES. You cannot party all night. Your guests and vendors must be off the property by 10:00 pm. If you want extra time for setup it will cost you $500 an hour. There are logistical challenges with having it indoors (moving chairs and setting up/tearing down the buffet). We were at about 80 people and it was fine but if all the 120 guests had shown up it would have been CROWDED. This of course wouldn't be an issue if your wedding and reception are held outdoors. Also we could NOT get the date our daughter wanted as the Castle does not allow events on New Year's Eve. We went ahead and held the ceremony and reception on December 30th. Then for all the guests staying at the castle I provided breakfast and the couple signed their legal papers on New Years Eve (problem solved). The guest rooms are so beautiful and there is a discount but this is not a low-budget venue. And wedding guests are not allowed upstairs unless they are staying at the castle. This is NOT a child-friendly venue. No children under the age of 12 may stay at the castle. They could attend a Wedding however there isn't a place for them to "go". Our daughter decided that due to the limited number of guests for an indoor wedding that it would be an adults only wedding. Make sure to set up an appointment for an initial walk-thru and TAKE NOTES and PHOTOS!! Also they only allow rehearsals on Wednesdays. Our daughter's wedding was one of the highlights of our life. Thornewood Castle met all of our expectations and in retrospect I am thrilled my daughter chose this venue but we read and followed their rules because the venue is worth it!

This is a beautiful venue. It is absolutely one of a kind. I was SET on having my wedding here from the moment that I first learned of it. HOWEVER, the staff there made it somewhat difficult.
For one, the rental of the venue gets you 6 hours, which is a crazy short amount of time for a wedding. They have no hot or cold storage, which is ridiculous for a wedding venue. They could, at the very least, offer to have a freezer to keep ice in. Instead, I had to arrange for a cooler to be brought there to store the ice.
There were guests staying at Thornewood who were not associated with the wedding. They took up parking spaces that could have been used for my guests (since the rental is supposed to include the entire parking lot). I went up to the bridal suite to grab something and the BNB guests were in there! I was so appalled at this! They could have easily taken any number of things as all of mine and my bridesmaids' purses were in that room.
Depending on the day, you'll get a good or bad event manager. From what I could tell, Stephanie was really professional. She seemed to know what to do to be helpful. One of the other managers, was not helpful and ended up confusing my coordinator and bridesmaids even more. The cake table was set up in the wrong place. I sent a bridesmaid down to fix it and one of the staff there told her that it was correct (even though it wasn't).

Overall, I don't think I would have wanted to have my wedding anywhere else. The castle truly is beautiful and I was in love with it since I first saw it in Rose Red. However, I can definitely understand the negative reviews about the place and I can totally see why many people have chosen not to book the venue. The owners have a true piece of beauty on their hands. I think this place would be much more successful if they were flexible, accommodating, and less money-hungry.

Great older venue. Beautiful grounds and decor. I marked a few stars down because of the kitchen. It’s small and outdated. The staff are amazing. Brittney and Amber were great to work with.

Thornewood castle is a beautiful venue, I'm still hearing about it from my guests. Please read the contract very carefully before you sign. they are extremely strict about certain things. If you need extra time for your wedding an hour is about $800. your contract is only for 6 hours on the property. that may not be enough time for you. you cant go to the lake which is on the property of the venue. guests cant go upstairs, cant light candle sticks. However, everything will be professional and taken care of period. No stress there. The staff was wonderful. I'm torn, I'm glad I had it there, however there was no flexibility.

There is no other place in the area that is as beautiful as Thornewood Castle. If I had to do everything all over again I would still have gotten married there despite some difficulties along the way. Their communication is lacking to say the least; it took me several months to get someone to take my deposit to secure my wedding date! There is now a new employee that I believe handles all of the weddings so it did make it a lot easier to get an emailed response in the last few months of planning. If you are going to get married here, just understand that they are very strict and particular. I can't say I blame them as it is someone's home and a historical building. My only complaint about my wedding day was not being able to find a staff member when we needed something. They seemed to just disappear at various points (just so happens that is when we needed a question answered). The biggest disappointment was that there was a hotel guest's car parked right in front of the home at the end of my wedding spoiling all of our pictures. There was a full scale hunt to try to find someone to move the car, but to no avail. We had rented a vintage car for our send off and were really upset that we couldn't get a shot of our car and the castle without a Ford Focus being in the frame. Also, their strict time to be out by 7 PM made the entire day seem very rushed but that was also due to poor planning on our part. In the end, you can't beat the beauty of this place.

Thornewood Castle is a beautiful venue for a wedding. The garden is a great place to have the ceremony, and the dining room has great atmosphere.

Downsides: you cannot have a band play outside during the reception (only during the ceremony). You cannot remove the carpets covering the beautiful wooden floors. 6 hours is short considering the preparations, ceremony, reception, and photos (I did my hair/makeup off site).

Overall it's pricy but the location is well worth it.

We were married on July 29 at Thornwood Castle. The venue and garden area were absolutely gorgeous! We were fortunate to have great weather so our ceremony was in the garden area and the reception was split between outside and inside. My biggest complaint was our coordinator-Leann. She was very cold and not personal at all. The other staff was wonderful. Leann made me feel like I was inconveniencing her whenever I had questions or concerns. We had a very simple wedding with not a lot of vendors and approx. 100 guests. I loved the way they handled the parking and the staff was present during the wedding/reception for help. I would recommend Thornwood but make sure the person you are dealing with is someone that is meeting not only your needs but seems happy to do so.

    Thornewood Castle's reply:

Thank you for taking the time to write us a review. We do truly appreciate your constructive opinion and will use that to better serve our clients moving forward. Congratulations on a beautiful wedding and thank you for letting us be part of it.

Thornewood Castle is a breathtaking venue hidden among residences in Lakewood, WA. It is a unique and beautiful venue for a ceremony and reception. We had our ceremony in the sunken rose garden and the reception followed with tables on the lawn overlooking the lake at the back of the Castle. All of our guests commented on how wonderful the venue was - many said it was like stepping into a fairytale.

Deanna, the owner was wonderful to work with. We had a dual reception (my sister and I got married on the same day) and she helped us to hash out all the details. However, much of the other staff was cold and didn't seem to want to deal with us. They only accept visitors by appointment and even closed the castle during our rehearsal (we couldn't use the bathrooms). During the wedding, they had several staff members making sure people didn't wander upstairs or over the property line.

All in all, if you don't mind dealing with some grumpy people, this is a wonderful venue for a wedding.

This is one of the harder reviews to write because the feelings are a little mixed. The venue itself was everything I ever could have asked for. And since the weather was so nice, we got to get married in the gardens like I’d dreamed! Unfortunately… the staff really fell flat in our last couple of communications and especially on the wedding day. They didn’t help with a thing and were actually rude to the guests! Of course people were curious about the castle… but instead of just letting people know why they couldn’t tour anything, they were rude in their responses to the guests. It was the only thing I had complaints about. During our rehearsal, our Officiant had to use the restroom and they wouldn’t let him in to the castle [rehearsal was in the garden]! Our “DOC” was completely useless. I asked if she could do one thing [turn on the music before we walked down the aisle] and was refused because she “might be needed elsewhere”. So… not thrilled about the staff, which is a bummer because they started out so well. To be honest, I still would have had my wedding there if I had to do it over. The space was just too beautiful for words! Thornewood itself gets an A and the staff gets a C.

Beautiful location. Suggests improvement in making appointments, Perhaps an online booking system to make appointments easier to track. Unfortunately there was a lack of communication from the person that was covering my event. I did find the alcohol policy rather strict when last call was at 9 and the person covering the event attempted to take my wine away at 9:30. I thought it was rude and uncalled for.

Pros: The venue is absolutely breathtaking. It's beautiful and stunning. Every location is lovely, your pictures, if you can get them there, are incredible. The experience of getting married there is ALMOST worth the stupid amounts of money you pay for the location. Getting married in the garden with all the flowers in bloom, dancing in a manor, it was AMAZING. They provide tables, they provide chairs, they provide linens for the tables, they provide a bar stand for the bartender.
Cons: They will nickle and dime you. Rehearsals are not included and you may or may not get the time you request. You pay $330 for the rehearsal, which essentially is just so you can BE on the property. They didn't tell us that they won't assist you, work with you, they basically charge you that much so you can figure it out on your own. They only allot you six hours for their price, and while my wedding was on a weekday (albeit in the summer) so the price seemed reasonable for a 500 year old manor ($3500 initially), if you want to spend any time there beyond those six hours, it will cost you. We were charged $500 for an extra hour, which was because we had to clean up. They even had us take out the trash ourselves out to their dumpster, and they didn't even tell us where the dumpster was. If you don't get that extra hour, and you are doing the 2-8pm wedding hours, your wedding ends at 7 because everything has to be clean and you gone by 8pm. If you want pictures, you have to pay extra for more hours unless you want to cram it into your 6 (5)-hour block. We had no time for a cocktail hour, we couldn't even get all of our pictures in because guests arrived early and interfered. They are a B&B as well, so they encourage checking into their rooms, but their prices are exorbitant even with wedding discounts. The experience was lovely, the location breathtaking but unless you have the money to burn, I don't recommend them. Every tiny thing, every detail, is more money they milk out of you.

    the matic wedding

to be honest we were extremely taken back and disappointed with this venue come the day of the wedding. first off, the two event coordinators of Thornwood were extremely rude and disrespectful to my day of coordinators and some of my bridal party and guests. second they told us during our 90 day out meeting that the bridal party and vendors would be able to come inside the catsle at 3:45 to get ready and set up and that was completely false we all arrived at 3:45 and they didnt let us in until 4:15 infact we were so late that the dj was still setting up during the reception. and then lastly they cut the music at 9 when we were previously told they cut the music at 10. and to be honest my fiancé and I paid $9000 for this venue and the way there coordinators treated my guest and the bridal party was extremely unprofessional and disrespectful and if you have a guest list of 100 and beyond i would NOT book here. the coordinators get extremely fluster and overwhelmed when asked for guidance and direction from others who may be your designated day of coordinator/ planner and they are not emotionally equipped to handle a large guest count. my husband and i were extremely upset because we felt like they had ruined our special day by how they treated us and with how they rushed through our reception. my husband and i want a refund of some kind after the way they handled us it was completely out of line.

    Covid Bride Beware

Beautiful castle, but brides beware - not only do they already have very hardcore rules and scheduling, if you're a covid bride needing to reschedule but the county says you can have literally anyone in one of their rooms, you're apparently screwed. I called early into the pandemic after reviewing the projected numbers and determining it was unsafe for my family to travel. I wanted a date in Oct2021 (my original date was in Oct2020). After calling multiple times and over a week of waiting, they came back and offered me Jan or Feb 2021. I told them I wasnt comfortable with it, but they told me that was all they were willing to do at that time. I had to call multiple times and go through multiple people for well over a week to even get that done.

After reviewing the most recent reports, the added risk of the flu as well as the prospect of a holiday spike had me calling again. This time, they told me the county says they can have up to 30 people in a room, so there's nothing I can do. Basically, pick 30 people closest to you that you're willing to put at risk. The worst part? NO REFUNDS. AT ALL. Pandemic on? Not our problem.

This venue was a damn near $5000.00 mistake. I was told that I should feel better because "the wedding will be beautiful and you can send people pictures." and "we lost money because we could have booked movies or photoshoots but instead we're hosting your wedding." Seriously guilted into feeling bad because they couldn't book a date they already sold me. Gross. Be sure to read your contract, and know that if the worst happens, they will stand by contract over decency and integrity 100 percent of the time.

As of now, my only option is to keep my date or be out of my money entirely. So I'm keeping my date for now. If I need to cancel, I'll be sure to call the required minimum of 3 times to have a manager call back over a week later to let them know.

My daughter was married at Thornewood Castle on Dec 28th. Our premeetings with Deanna were wonderful. However on the day of the wedding it was pouring down rain and they would not let anyone into the Castle until 4:00PM the wedding was at 4:30PM. Guests had a difficult time getting through the gate. I even rented the Lake Side House at the Castle so that we could get in a little early and place the flowers etc on the tables. The day of the wedding I was told that if everyone was not out of the Castle by 10PM that they would charge me an additional $800. It made the evening difficult for me fearing we would over stay our time. I was also given a remote for the gate since I was staying in the very expensive Lake Side House. I was told if I lost the remote they would charge me $500. The staff was not helpful. I was very disappointed and spent a lot of money so that my daughter would have a wonderful wedding day. All of the bridesmaids said they would never have their weddings there. Way too many restrictions that we were not told about ahead of time. Do NOt Have your wedding Here!

    Thornewood Castle's reply:

Thank you for your feedback. Please allow us to clarify a few points mentioned in this review. We are a rental only facility; we were not the wedding planners or caterers for this event. Like most facilities, we are rented for a specific period of time which is chosen by the customer. On this particular occasion, the client had rented the facility from 4:00 PM until 10:00 PM. As stated in the review, they planned the wedding ceremony to start at 4:30 PM, which only gave them 30 minutes to set up the entire ceremony, reception and catering, and do all of this while guests would be arriving. This customer was well informed about our product and policies both verbally and in writing before booking their event. We delivered our facility when promised and it "was beautiful" according to the bride and her mother. We understand a wedding is one of the most important days in an individual's life and we will always do everything we can to make sure the event runs as smoothly as possible. Our customer’s satisfaction is our greatest reward.

    Inflexible and uncommunicative.

The short version: in the midst of a pandemic, they took our money and didn't let us postpone, cancel, or transfer. A several-thousand-dollar mistake after months of being given the runarouind.

It's taken me several months to be calm enough to write this review. We were supposed to get married at Thornewood on February 15. We reserved the space over a year in advance, and paid in fully up front to avoid the hassle of installments.

COVID hit. Our families all live out of state, and severe restrictions to gathering sizes were in place. My mother has an autoimmune condition, so traveling was out of the question. We also did not feel we could have a gathering of any significant size given the unknown risks of the virus.

We reached out to Thornewood to ask if we could bump our date back a year. We were told the date was non transferable and non refundable. We asked for a partial refund since we paid in full instead of just a deposit. They said no. After weeks and weeks of the front desk staff being friendly but unable to give me answers, I got a very terse email, which included a lot of moaning about how hard the pandemic had been on them, and stating that "as a kindness", we could move our date to another available date in 2021, but only if we paid an additional fee of half of the deposit amount for that date! After being unresponsive, this "offer" had an expiration of 48 hours.

I understand that COVID was unforeseen and difficult. But every other vendor we had were understanding and worked with us to come to some sort of arrangement. And again- these folks already had our money, and we got absolutely nothing to show for it.

Avoid this venue at all costs.

    Covid Nightmare

I cannot believe how utterly unaccommodating this venue is. They have been nothing but rude and even threatened legal action against us when we've already paid in full for a date we now know can't be used in the way we intended our wedding to be in Feb 2020 when we signed this contract before the pandemic. Just terrible. Planning a wedding for over 100 people in these times is IMPOSSIBLE and they don't give a shit.

    Ruining another COVID wedding

Another Covid wedding to be ruined by Thornewood Castle. I called this past December(2020) as the country was finding out the vaccine wasn’t going to be administered as expected and that there was still a long road ahead. My May 2021 wedding date now put in jeopardy had me calling to see if we could move the date. I chose to pay Thornewood in full at the beginning of COVID because I felt they were going to need the money and that since my date was so far out that it should be fine by the time my wedding rolls around.

No good deed goes unpunished... in calling them about moving the date I was informed that they had decided to put a policy in place at the start of Covid that said “no date changes.” The contract, however, doesn’t say you cannot change dates. They wouldn’t even entertain the idea.

So currently I can invite about 1/5 of my guests to my wedding so the staff can do 1/5 of the work but take 100% of the money.

The wedding, of course, has to be outdoor along with the reception if they even allow it.

Do not waste your time or your money here. They were unwilling to work with anyone (see other comments) during COVID even when no refunds were asked of them and reservations were paid in full.

    Don’t walk, run away.
