Our hotel for guests and our wedding night

My husband I stayed at the Thompson for our June 2019 wedding weekend as local Chicagoans and was so happy with their service, flexibility and the beautiful rooms! We stayed at the penthouse and enjoyed our private terrace, huge space to get ready and do makeup and hair and the overall vibe. We didn't get married there, but wanted to stay in a cool hotel with a central location. Thank you guys, what an awesome hotel!

I held my wedding reception at the Thompson. We had a cocktail hour with excellent passed appetizers and a scrumptious four-course dinner. Mimi helped me create a custom package within my budget, and I think we got a heck of a deal given the superb food and service.

I chose the Thompson primarily for the food (in particular, the pastry chef!). As numerous James Beard nominations suggest, Nico's cuisine is exquisite, and our wedding feast was delicious and memorable. People are still raving about the Nico Torte, which we served in lieu of a wedding cake. What a masterpiece! If sharing a superb and satisfying meal with your friends and family is an important part of your wedding vision, this is the place for you.

The ballroom is quite simple and modern as compared to other grand Chicago hotels, but the floor to ceiling windows, candle treatment, default linens, lovely Villeroy and Boch china, and uplighting make for one elegant backdrop.

The concessions included in the packages are also great--printed menus, room upgrades for parents of the bride and groom, penthouse suite for the bride and groom. The bridal suite is *stunning*, and perfect for an after-party.

My husband and I were not into the process of planning a wedding and the best part of getting married at the Thompson was Mimi! She was so great! She took care of so many details and guided us through the process. She also recommended a few vendors which we were very impressed with. Mimi was so helpful and accommodating. She also paid attention to details and was very flexible with last minute changes. The hotel is beautiful, centrally located, and all of our guests commented on how much they enjoyed staying there and how amazing the service was. The tasting was amazing! The desserts at the wedding were delicious. Our guests who chose the meat entree commented on how delicious the food was and how it surpassed the expectations of wedding food. My one advice, do not go with mushroom risotto if you have many vegetarian wedding guests. We had ~30 and the risotto just didn't turn out the way it did at the tasting (bland and soupy). I would highly recommend getting married at the Thompson!

    Worst wedding venue beware!

I was lied to by the coordinator Brianna. She did not communicate well with her team which caused me lots of stress on my wedding day . The power went out in my suite while we were getting ready and our wedding was running over an hour late because of Brianna not doing her job and the hotel poor ability to accommodate. No apologies just got ignored by Brianna
