Gorgeous wedding venue with great character!

I fell in love with the Women’s Club of Evanston the moment I walked in for a tour. It is a gorgeous old mansion with deep roots; the manager (Gretchen) is kind, reliable, and so easy to work with; the preferred caterer we used (Catering by Michaels) was raved about by our guests; and the gift of bringing your own alcohol was huge. Our guests kept commenting on the uniqueness of the space, how great it was to have a pianist playing during our cocktail hour on the first floor, and how joyful and bright the ballroom looked. It was honestly beyond anything I imagined. A few extra things of note – our guests stayed at the Graduate Evanston which is barely a block away (no shuttles needed!); there is a huge parking garage across the street so nobody was looking for parking; and have I mentioned how beautiful the space is? I wish I had a reason to throw a huge event again – I would go back to the Women’s Club every time. Huge thank you to Gretchen and her team!

Also, the cost was very reasonable compared to other venues!

The Woman's Club of Evanston's reply:

Smiles all around! We loved working with you and seeing your special day come to life! :) Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts.

An Unforgettable Wedding Day in a Truly Special Space

My husband and I had our wedding at The Woman’s Club of Evanston in October 2025, and we truly cannot recommend this venue enough. The space is gorgeous on its own — not a blank slate at all — so we didn’t need nearly as many decorations or flowers as we did at other venues we considered. Our guests raved all day about how beautiful and unique the building was.

One of the biggest advantages is that the entire venue is yours for the day. There are no other weddings or events happening at the same time, which makes everything feel calm, special, and centered on your celebration. We had a Sunday brunch wedding, held our ceremony downstairs (very cozy and intimate), and our reception upstairs in the ballroom. The flow between spaces was seamless, and the ballroom floor is amazing for dancing. The sound system was excellent — speeches and music were crystal clear.

Gretchen was wonderful to work with throughout the planning process. She provided vendor recommendations, kept us on track to meet deadlines, and answered all of our questions. We used J&L Catering for our food and Schaffer’s for alcohol, and both were excellent and the liquor from Schaffer’s was a significant cost savings.

Another huge bonus: so many essentials are included with the rental, such as tables, chairs, silverware, and plates. At other venues, those items can be surprisingly expensive to source.

Logistically, this location is hard to beat. There are several hotels and great restaurants within walking distance, making it incredibly easy for our out-of-town guests to enjoy an entire weekend in Evanston. Our local guests appreciated that parking is free in Evanston on Sundays and close to the venue. There are also plenty of bathrooms on the same floors where all the events take place — a small detail that makes a big difference for guest comfort.

Finally, it felt meaningful to support a historic building and philanthropic organization rather than a large hotel chain. Overall, we highly recommend The Woman’s Club of Evanston as a premier wedding venue in the greater Chicagoland area. We couldn’t imagine having celebrated anywhere else.

The Woman's Club of Evanston's reply:

Fabulous, thank you! So thrilled your day was fantastic in every way. Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts.

The perfect place for our Chicago Wedding

We toured so many venues in the Chicago area and struggling until we came to the Woman's Club of Evanston. It has so much natural beauty and is incredibly spacious. There is truly room for everyone and everything that you need on the night of your wedding. On the first floor there is a huge space for a welcome/cocktail hour with an attached piano room. This was perfect for our guests to mingle and have appetizers before the start of the reception. There was also a space for us to get some privacy as a couple and just take a breather before the reception.

Upstairs is the main reception hall. Its a beautiful space with a stage for your DJ/band, and even a room on the side that can be opened and closed which was great for our double-sided buffet. There was also plenty of room for us to put a photo booth in the corner. You can do some creative things with the lights which we did. The only pieces of furniture we brought in were different chairs that we wanted.

The venue manager Gretchen was an absolute joy to work with. She was so helpful, kind, positive, and accommodating. She gave us great recommendations and worked very well with our wedding planner to help her prepare for the coordination of the night.

From a value perspective -- We can't recommend this venue enough. The price was super reasonable for what we got, especially relative to some of the crazy prices that the Chicago area has to offer.

The Woman's Club of Evanston's reply:

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts! We are over the moon that you had a positive experience :)

    Great experience!

We recently hosted our daughter's wedding at The Woman's Club of Evanston, and we couldn't have been happier. The space is beautiful and has a sense of historic elegance, but is at the same time very comfortable and approachable. Many of our guests were unfamiliar with the venue and raved about what a lovely surprise it was. The upstairs ballroom with its many windows was wonderfully sun-filled during the ceremony, and was transformed for the reception into a warm but dressed-up setting for dinner and dancing as the sun set. While we were pleased with the facility, we were also just very happy working with staff. Gretchen made the whole process so much easier. She was responsive and kind, and always had answers to our many questions and requests. Many of our vendors remarked that she was a pleasure to work with, as well. HIghly recommended.

The Woman's Club of Evanston's reply:

Huge thanks for this wonderful review! It's always so rewarding to see a wedding come to life, with all the details and moments long-planned being enjoyed.

Wonderful Venue in the heart of Evanston

I had the pleasure of working at The Woman’s Club of Evanston for a recent event, and I couldn’t be more impressed with the venue and the exceptional service provided by their team. From start to finish, the experience was seamless and absolutely fantastic.

The staff went above and beyond to accommodate all of our needs, making sure everything ran smoothly and that we had everything we needed throughout the event. Their professionalism and attention to detail truly set them apart.

The venue itself is simply stunning—elegant, spacious, and filled with charm. It offered a beautiful backdrop for our event, and the atmosphere was perfect.

What really stood out to me, though, was the incredible amenities on-site. The Woman’s Club of Evanston provides free use of chairs, tables, and dishes, which is a huge bonus and not something you typically get with most event venues. It made planning so much easier and saved us a lot of time and money.

I highly recommend this venue for anyone looking for a beautiful, accommodating, and well-equipped space for their event. The combination of a gorgeous location and top-notch service is truly unmatched. I’ll definitely be returning in the future!

    10/10 would book again!!

My partner and I got married at the WCOE just last weekend, and it was absolutely everything we hoped for. I never want to plan another wedding ever but if I had to, I would absolutely do it all again with WCOE!!

Our top priority when planning our wedding was to maximize convenience for our guests (final count ~140), not wanting them to have to go to multiple places or worry about getting rideshare all over the place. We had our ceremony upstairs, had everyone come downstairs for cocktail hour while they flipped the upstairs for the reception, and then brought everyone back up! Decor wasn't a huge priority in our budget, but also wasn't really a huge necessity, because the space itself is very cute.

Initially, we'd been looking in the city, but decided that Evanston would be quite convenient to O'Hare, and all guests were either coming from our of town or the Northern Suburbs anyway. The location was perfect, walkable to multiple hotels (we did our block at The Graduate, which was amazing for getting ready photos), walkable to the lake, and there were so many casual and nicer food options nearby for non-event meals for our guests.

Gretchen was so helpful every step of the way, helping us coordinate a visit when we were in town, providing ample photos, and even giving us a list of vendors she had a good experience with when requested. The catering partnerships were great, and honestly really saved us from a lot of leg work researching random other ones. (We went with Froggy's and would absolutely recommend!) She also was kind enough to send reminders when things were due, which was so helpful with all the moving parts.

A great team, a wonderful space, an easy recommendation!

    The most elegant wedding!

We knew from the moment we walked in that the Woman’s Club of Evanston was the perfect place for us to host our intimate winter wedding. We were so captivated by the history, warmth and elegance of the building. We had our entire event on the first floor and got married in front of the beautiful fireplace. There were so many great backdrops for photos. Gretchen, the WCOE manager, was lovely to work with, so positive and helpful. This is a very special place, and we highly recommend!

The Woman's Club of Evanston's reply:

Very grateful for your positive review! Thank you for sharing your experience with future couples who may wish to host a smaller wedding on our first floor.

    Exceptional

The venue is absolutely beautiful, unique and incomparable, but what really sold us on it was the exceptional service Gretchen provided from beginning to end. She was proactive and helpful, always accommodating and had a cheerful attitude. The club house feels really special right as you walk in with its beautiful staircases, impeccably maintained ballroom, curved ceiling and large windows. We feel so lucky to have had our wedding reception here, it was very picturesque.

An excellent venue to celebrate your wedding night!

If you’re planning a wedding in Evanston, the Women’s Club of Evanston is an excellent choice. The unique architecture, interior design, surrounding garden, location, and management make it an easy decision.

We got married at the Alice Millar Chapel of Northwestern University, just a 5-minute walk from the Women’s Club. Our guests enjoyed the cocktail hour on the first floor, which is beautiful, spacious, and unique, with plenty of room for mingling. The upstairs area, with its large windows and uplighting, provided a perfect space for dinner and dancing. It’s impossible not to fall in love with the club immediately!

The management is incredibly helpful. Ms. Gretchen Oehlschlager is amazing to work with and always provides useful tips and guidance. For catering, you can choose from a list of approved caterers. We chose Froggy’s and were very pleased.

Gretchen also introduced us to a day-of coordinator, Ms. Krys Juleen, who made our wedding day much less stressful. We considered other venues in Evanston, but the Women’s Club of Evanston made our decision easy.

The Woman's Club of Evanston's reply:

Sincerely grateful for this wonderful review! It was a pleasure seeing your unique and thoughtful vision come to life in our venue.

    Amazing wedding venue!

We held my daughter’s wedding reception at Woman’s Club of Evanston this past Saturday and it was truly amazing! When we first started exploring venues, we were immediately impressed with how lovely the WCE space was and knew that it would be the ideal venue. However, we also realized how important the management would be in the nearly year-long planning process. WCE did not disappoint in any way! From booking through the reception, Gretchen and her staff were super organized, professional, timely and kind! Gretchen makes you feel like you are the only client she is working with! Her warm and friendly personality is so calming amidst all the details of the wedding planning process. The venue itself has recently been renovated with modern touches, but in keeping with its classic charm. Our planner and florist really enjoyed working in the space and incorporating the venue’s charming details and décor into their floral/décor plans for the cocktail area and ballroom. Another key selling point is the WCE location – walking distance to hotels, restaurants and all that downtown Evanston has to offer. Our out-of-town guests were so glad that they could easily walk back to their hotels at the end of the night! All in all, WCE is a winner – I would give it more than 5 stars if I could. Thank you Gretchen and WCE for making our daughter’s wedding reception a most memorable evening!

Wow... we are so honored by this fabulous review!! What a pleasure to work with you and your family. Truly a beautiful reception in every way. Very best always, Gretchen

    Beautiful Venue

My daughter and her now husband had their wedding last Saturday night. The Woman’s Club was the first and only venue we looked at. From the moment we stepped in we knew it was the perfect for us. Gretchen the manager was so helpful through the whole process, she was never too busy to answer any questions we had and helped with recommendations and even ideas for our event. The venue is beautiful and has a classic charm. My guests were so impressed with how beautiful it was. We had a cocktail reception on the first floor and reception on the second. Being able to use the entire club is a bonus. Centrally located in downtown Evanston my guests were able to choose from a few different hotels and it’s a quick Uber in to the city for other guests that stayed downtown. Highly recommend.

    We LOVED the Woman's Club!

My wife and I just had our wedding at The Woman's Club, and we could not have been happier with our decision. The venue is absolutely beautiful, perfectly maintained with historic charm & character. We were able to host both our ceremony and reception in the upstairs ballroom, and the downstairs was used for our cocktail hour while the ballroom was changed over. This was very convenient and worked wonderfully for us and our guests. Gretchen, the venue manager, was so incredibly kind, helpful, and accommodating...it was truly a pleasure working with her. She also connected us with a caterer from their approved list, J&L Catering, who knew the room very well and did an amazing job on all fronts. We would recommend The Woman's Club to anyone looking to plan a wedding or throw an event. It is a very special place.

    Absolutely Perfect

We just had our wedding at the Woman's Club of Evanston and it was absolutely perfect. The venue is an ideal location, easy to walk to from the various nearby hotels which made it super convenient for our majority of out of town guests. It is also near restaurants and shops like (whole foods, cvs, starbucks and target) if you need any last minute items or a caffeine fix. Gretchen was a joy to work with and helped us seamlessly navigate the process even though we live 2000+ miles away. Could not give higher praise.

Some of the highlights of the club include getting to use the entire space for your event -- you are not sharing it with anyone else which was a huge plus for us. The inside is also beautiful and has an old school romantic charm to it.

Perfect Setting For My Daughter & Son-in-law's Wedding

My daughter and son-in-law were married here on 9/3/22. The wedding couple were one and done after touring the venue. We booked the whole venue and were so pleased with everything from start to finish. All the renovations were just as lovely as we had been promised they would be. Such a perfect setting. The ceremony was held in the ballroom and then we had the cocktail hour on the main level. When we returned to the ballroom for the reception, we were in awe of how beautifully and quickly it had been flipped. We received so many compliments on venue. From the start Gretchen was hands on, very communicative and answered the many questions that we threw at her. Arthur and Briana were the staff on hand for the wedding day. They were so hard working and everything ran so smoothly. We could not be happier and would gladly recommend the WCOE.

Woman’s Club of Evanston- The Perfect Wedding Venue

Our August 20 wedding at the Woman’s Club of Evanston was perfect! We held the ceremony in the music room and had cocktails and passed hors d’oeuvres downstairs, which worked out great. The music room was just the right size for our 90 guests. The ballroom upstairs was gorgeous and the up lighting looked fabulous. Many of our guests commented how lovely the venue was. Gretchen and her team were fantastic and all of our needs were met. We could not have been more pleased with the Woman’s Club and we highly recommend it as a wonderful wedding venue.

    Wonderful experience!

Working with the Woman’s Club of Evanston on our April 2022 wedding was wonderful. From the time we first looked at the space, Gretchen was helpful and thoughtful, especially considering the unexpected changes as the pandemic continued throughout our planning process. Gretchen was conscientious and kind, and kept the safety of our guests, vendors and staff in mind throughout. We felt confident we were in good hands throughout our time working with Gretchen.
The venue itself was the perfect place to host our ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception, and we appreciated it all being in one building, with parking across the street, a hotel down the block, and nearby public transit, which made it easy on our guests. The historic building is beautiful, great for photos, and hardly requires much decoration, while also being modernized to be very accessible for people with disabilities, all the technology we needed for a slideshow and DJ, and all-gender bathrooms for our guests. We also appreciated the affordability of the venue, and the opportunity to choose our vendors and personalize our event.

    Wonderful!

The Woman’s Club of Evanston was the perfect venue for our summer wedding. Our guests loved the downstairs space for the cocktail hour with beautiful artwork as well as various seating options - they couldn’t believe there was also a wonderful space upstairs. The ballroom was perfect for dinner and dancing - the stage was a huge hit with the band. The new “uplighting” was also a very nice addition to the ballroom.

Gretchen was extremely helpful every step of the way. I appreciated her quick communication, as well as knowledge of Evanston, the building and vendors. She was extremely kind! I highly recommend the Woman’s Club of Evanston.

    An ideal Evanston wedding venue!

The Woman's Club of Evanston was a dream venue! The location is great, especially for out of town guests. The building is gorgeous and it's so nice having the entire building to use for photos, ceremony, cocktail hour and reception. Gretchen was a wonderful partner as we navigated planning our wedding, balancing vendors, dealing with COVID and changing regulations. She was quick to respond, always so kind and gracious.

The building is simply beautiful and it was very reasonably priced for the value (including the chairs, tables, dinnerware, etc.) The addition of the new up lights made the space look spectacular. Our guests loved the venue. We highly recommend the Woman's Club of Evanston for your wedding!

Can't think of a single complaint

The Women's Club of Evanston is a gorgeous venue for a wedding, with a first-floor space for cocktails and a second-floor ballroom for ceremonies and reception dinners, all with a kind of understated-elegant decor which would work for a huge range of wedding styles. The venue manager, Gretchen, was delightful and patient and remarkably willing to accommodate last-minute changes of plan necessitated by the changing COVID situation. I couldn't think of a complaint about either the venue or its staff if I tried.

My husband and I are Northwestern alumni, and we knew we wanted to be back in the area for our wedding. My now husband had to find a venue alone because I wasn't able to be in the area, and the Woman's Club has been absolutely perfect in working with me virtually and helping my husband organize. They were always quick to respond by email, answered every question we had, and have been the kindest, most understanding people we have had the pleasure of working with.

Wedding planning has been stressful for us (and for businesses!) due to COVID. We had to make a ton of last minute changes, including having the ceremony at the Woman's Club, due to policy changes at our prior site. It was no problem at all--literally no fuss. For the rehearsal, they had set up the room so we can preview what it would be like for the ceremony, INCLUDING the piano for our musician to use as we practiced walking down the aisle. They also provided chairs/tables, and a microphone and lectern for the ceremony too.

We also couldn't be bothered with grand decorations, because we were so tired of planning a wedding for the second time (first attempt in 2020 derailed by COVID), but the best part is you don't need them. The Woman's Club is beautiful. There's a wonderful garden just outside for photos (not to mention the front door), a beautiful 1st and 2nd floor sun room, and the ballroom is perfect with plenty of space for larger weddings and a dance floor.

They also have a great list of vendors who they have worked with closely. We had the husband's parents on standby for coordinating because we didn't have a wedding coordinator--but you don't need one. Our caterer who knows the Club very well had everything on lockdown, and it makes clean up a breeze.

I really can't say nice enough things. It was so easy to work with the Woman's Club, and I would encourage everyone to have both the ceremony and reception there. It will simplify your life, and also be absolutely beautiful. So many thanks and warm feelings to the Woman's Club for making our day perfect!

    Beautiful venue, great staff!

The Woman's Club of Evanston is a beautifully, classic wedding venue in the heart of downtown Evanston, Illinois. It's also a great value because you have the entire building, newly redecorated during Covid. Staff is wonderful...efficient, professional and flexible. Our wedding guests were very impressed! Check it out. You won't be sorry.

Beautiful Venue +supporting a great organization

I’m so happy we selected the clubhouse of The Woman’s Club of Evanston as our venue for our wedding and reception. Dana was wonderful to work with and was able to help guide us in the details of planning our big day. The space provided separate spaces for our cocktail hour, ceremony and reception, with a stage for our band, which is what attracted us in the first place. I love the history and the architectural beauty of the Clubhouse, which provides a beautiful backdrop to your wedding photos. And when my wife and I understood that our rental fees enable The Woman’s Club of Evanston to focus on charitable giving in the community, we ended up being very proud to have selected this as our venue.

    Excellent!

The Woman's Club was a beautiful venue and so easy to work with. The team recommended phenomenal vendors and helped make the day of our wedding go so smoothly. They were even very understanding and helpful when we had to make a last minute change to our ceremony. We are so happy we chose the Woman's Club and so thankful for how they helped make wedding planning such a stress free process. Would highly recommend them.

    Perfect venue for wedding reception

My wife and I were married in October 2018. Our ceremony was up the street in the Alice Millar chapel, and we held our reception in the Woman's Club of Evanston. The Woman's Club ended up working out perfectly for us! Our cocktail hour was held on the first floor, and dinner & dancing was upstairs in the main banquet hall. The venue was beautiful, the staff was easy to work with, and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out.

Our September wedding was at the Woman’s Club of Evanston and I worked with Dana to make our event come to life. She was both professional and fun to work with, and helped design and coordinate exactly what I wanted the day to look like. The team was extremely helpful and responsive to all questions throughout our year of planning. On the day-of, Michelle, the Manager, was our coordinator and she was the best. She went above and beyond and worked with all of our vendors to ensure everything flowed well and looked stunning. The venue is beautiful and all of the guests commented on how much they liked it. The stage was perfect for hosting a live band and the staff were very amenable to working with our band ahead of time to ensure they had everything they needed to perfrorm. Family and friends are still commenting on how much they loved the whole event and how easy it was to take public transportation to or park. Overall, we couldn’t be happier with how the day went or our experience planning. Thanks, Dana and Michelle!

We loved having our Sunday afternoon (4:30) wedding at Evanston Women's Club. They were extremely responsive and open to our visiting the space as many times as we wanted. They worked seamlessly with all of our vendors. And, the space is gorgeous!

The only initial frustration was that we couldn't have our rehearsal there because they were setting up for a Saturday wedding. But it wasn't a big deal; we ended up reserving a meeting room for free at a nearby hotel that was part of our room block.

We used the Woman's Club of Evanston for our wedding in November of 2017. We needed a venue that could work for the entire day, from ceremony through reception. We looked around the Chicago area for venues that could hold enough people for the entire day and struggled to find exactly what we had imagined. The moment we walked into the Woman's Club we knew it was the venue for us! The building itself is beautiful and served as a wonderful place for both a ceremony as well as the party that followed. It was large enough to have everyone move downstairs for the cocktail hour and use the upstairs ballroom for both the ceremony and reception. Elizabeth was our point of contact and she was nothing short of spectacular. We didn't have the money to afford a separate wedding planner, and she helped make sure everything went smoothly. As the stress mounted she was always there to quickly provide answers or suggestions, and in the end everything came together beautifully. Thank you to both Elizabeth and the whole team at the Woman's Club of Evanston for making our day special!

We chose the Woman's Club of Evanston because it is stunning and versatile. We wanted a venue not too formal but with lots of characters. Even though we only had the first floor, there were plenty space to have the ceremony, cocktails, and reception. The event coordinator, Elizabeth, was amazing! We live in California but communication was never a problem. She was very flexible to show us the venue as much as we needed, work with our friends/family and very responsive to any questions. She also helped coordinate on our big day. Everything went great so that we got to spend some quality time with only our family. We are so happy to have our wedding at the Woman's Club and have Elizabeth to be part of it. Thank you for a special day!

When my husband and I first got engaged we thought we would want to have our wedding in my parent’s backyard. We both have huge Chicago Irish families, and my mother’s response was: “there is no way I am letting that many people use my bathroom” Thus began our search for a place that could fit all of us, while still feeling comfortable and personal. We looked into the Chicago park district which has so many beautiful options, but for us it was too expensive considering what is (or isn’t) included while having to use their vendors. A friend suggested we check out the Woman’s Club, and I knew as soon as I looked at their website that I would love it. I called immediately to inquire about Memorial Day weekend where I was connected with Elizabeth Anderson, WCOE’s Event Coordinator. Elizabeth generously put a slightly extended hold on the day for us so that my parents, then fiancee and I could find a time we were all available to come in together an see the space. It is big, gorgeous and so reasonable considering everything that is available for use such as the entire space, tables, chairs…. Elizabeth was incredible to work with and super kind and helpful. All night our friends and family raved about the gorgeous space which was in walking distance to our hotel - the Hilton Orrington - which was another highlight to our weekend. It was great to be in a hotel so close to the WCOE and the beach. Another benefit to having a wedding at the WCOE is that the money we spent on the venue went directly to such an amazing organization and group of people. The women involved in WCOE do so much for their community and reading through the long list of volunteer work, grants and community outreach programs on their website is very inspiring. We could not have asked for a better venue, location or total experience for our wedding.

The Woman's Club of Evanston's reply:

Natalie - Thank you for the wonderful review and for all of your kind words about our staff and venue! We were so honored to be a part of your wedding. All the best to you and Nate!

The Women's Club of Evanston combined the warmth and attention you expect from a small club with the ease and confidence you expect with a much more expensive commercial enterprise. Elizabeth with events planning not only responded quickly to requests, she also reached out with pre-emptive suggestions and possibilities. The Club recommended Jerry Carlson of That Special Event who provides perfection with a smile.

We are so glad that we chose the Woman’s Club of Evanston for our wedding ceremony and reception. (We had ~135 guests and rented the full space.) From the charm of the downstairs area and sun porches to the high ceilings and amazing natural light in the ballroom, the venue made our wedding look classic and elegant with barely any decorative effort needed from us. We got countless compliments from our guests about how beautiful the space was. The location was also perfect as it was easy to get to for our Chicago friends but less expensive than staying downtown for those who traveled here.

Without exception, every communication we had with Elizabeth through the planning process was clear, prompt, professional and kind. On the day of the wedding, she and her assistant Colin went above and beyond to make sure we and our guests were comfortable and taken care of (including bringing me endless cups of tea, as I had laryngitis!). They were very flexible and accommodating throughout the process. Our other vendors (Froggy’s, Binny’s, Toast & Jam, Smilebooth) all worked seamlessly with the Woman’s Club to make the day run smoothly.

A minor reason that we chose the Woman’s Club that we ended up really appreciating is that many other venues we considered consisted mainly of one large room, while the Woman’s Club has two floors and multiple smaller side rooms, seating areas, and lounges. This extra space meant that guests who needed to step away during the wedding (a bridesmaid who needed to nurse her babies, a friend with health issues who needed to lie down and rest) were able to have a comfortable and private space. It also meant that we had plenty of lovely locations to take pictures despite rainy weather.

Overall we couldn’t have been happier with our choice of venue, from beginning to end, and our wedding day was absolutely magical.

The Woman's Club of Evanston's reply:

Caitlin - Thank you so much for this lovely review! It was such a pleasure being a part of your big day. We wish you and Nick all the best!

Our wedding in October 2016 at the Woman's Club was absolutely perfect from start to finish. The staff at the WCE were very helpful in guiding the planning process. It's definitely a lot of work to hire the vendors and keep everyone organized and in the loop, and Michelle and Elizabeth played a very large part in that. The day of the wedding, we had our Ceremony upstairs facing the windows, which was very pretty. The cocktail hour was immediately after in the downstairs of the clubhouse, which worked out perfectly, and people really had great things to say about the space. All the guests were guided back upstairs for dinner and dancing, and I have to say, as a bride, I had no idea what the ballroom would look like after they "flipped the room", but when we walked in, everything was gorgeous! To be honest, it was even better than I had expected. We had 175 guests attend, and there was plenty of room for all the tables plus the dance floor and bar area, but it also felt cozy and intimate at the same time. My only complaint is that the day went way too fast and was over in a flash! I would recommend the Woman's Club to anyone for their special event, if they are looking for a unique and beautiful space that you can make your own.

What a classy, romantic setting! We loved the french windows, the pale blue walls, the large hardwood dance space, and the wall lamps that gave a soft glow to the ballroom. Our wedding reception using the whole club was perfect. We loved being the only event going on at the Club. The privacy was so nice. The downstairs for cocktails and moving upstairs for dinner later was magical. The management of the WCOE is so professional, responsive, and helpful in all areas. Having the email go out early in the week of the event to all vendors was especially helpful as coordination is key to a smooth event. Also the security that was recommended and required was very reassuring to the bridal family. Knowing any situation that may have arisen would have been handled professionally. Personal property was secure. J & L Catering provided wonderful food, service and headed by Jim Bailey constant support throughout the whole wedding planning process. The Woman's Club of Evanston has this down!

The venue was perfect for our May wedding with 135 guests. We had cocktail hour downstairs and the reception in the ballroom upstairs. The backdrop was perfect for the vibe we were going for -- it had an old world elegance, but didn't feel stuffy or antiquey.

Lisa was great to work with. She is very prepared and has answers to most of your questions before you ask them. She was always prompt when we did have any questions throughout our year of planning. And she was always accommodating when we wanted to stop by on short notice with family or other vendors to check out the rooms.

Everything went smooth on the day of. They have preferred caterers who know the venue and everything went seamlessly.

You can spend more, or you can spend less, but you won't do any better than the Woman's Club!

The Woman's Club of Evanston was the perfect venue for our wedding reception. Lisa Shary was very helpful throughout the planning process and worked well with all of our vendors. The Woman's Club has a great list of caterers (all the main Chicago ones) that you can use and also lets you bring in your own alcohol which saved us a lot of money.
It was nice to have our cocktail hour on the first floor and then we moved upstairs to their gorgeous ballroom for dinner and dancing. The stage is perfect for a live band and the acoustics were great!
We highly recommend looking at the Woman's Club as it's a gorgeous venue that provides enough of the basics (tables, chairs, etc) while still allowing you to customize the space and make it your own.

As a wedding and event planner I loved working with the Women's Club of Evanston, especially for this beautiful surprise baby shower.

The client's absolutely loved the space - the first floor was perfect for a ladies luncheon with lots of natural light filled with soft, feminine touches.

Right across the street from a parking lot makes it easy for guests to access. Lisa from the venue knows the space in-and-out and is a pleasure to work with.

The Woman's Club of Evanston was the perfect venue for our daughter's wedding reception, and Lisa Shary coordinated the event with extraordinary professionalism and grace. She provided us with much-needed advice and was flexible and willing to make last-minute adjustments to the seating arrangements. The reception hall was a beautiful space with old-world charm - and our daughter's vision of the evening was realized in full.

The Woman's Club of Evanston was not only the most beautiful setting for our wedding reception, but the people you work with make everything stress free. I originally booked with the former coordinator at the club, and then Lisa took over. The transition was very easy and smooth. Lisa was helpful in answering all of my questions promptly. I was relieved when Lisa asked for my vendor contact list and informed me that she would be in contact with all of my vendors the week of the wedding to schedule timing and to give set up instructions. The week of your wedding is the busiest and most stressful time and this was a huge help. The Woman's Club was also very affordable! We were able to rent the entire venue out for 5 hours. It was wonderful having a venue completely to yourself for your special day. Note it is possible to have the venue longer, but those details would be arranged with Lisa. The Woman's Club of Evanston is absolutely stunning. My husband and I received an overwhelming number of compliments from our guest on this unique and special find.

My husband and I had the most WONDERFUL experience with the Woman's Club of Evanston. We had spent a LOT of time researching unique and yet affordable venues for our reception in the Chicagoland area. After many site visits to various venues, the Woman's Club of Evanston was the clear winner. It was a beautiful, romantic, yet open space. Additionally, we were able to select from several catering companies, which allowed us to negotiate the costs.

Carol Short, the facilities manager, was an absolute dream to work with. Before deciding on the Woman's Club of Evanston, I had read reviews about the venue and their positive experience with Carol. Our experience was consistent with those reviews. Carol encourages questions throughout the wedding planning process and is extremely prompt in responding to questions. The day before the wedding, Carol walked us through the floor plan and was there the day of to oversee all aspects of our reception. Carol is a true professional and we loved working with her!

We could not have been any happier with our venue selection - we HIGHLY recommend the Woman's Club of Evanston!

My experience with The Woman's Club of Evanston was wonderful! The venue is absolutely beautiful. I was doing a Victorian themed wedding and this suited so well. Carol, the coordinator of events, is the loveliest person to work with. So professional, so timely in her responses, as well as gracious and accomodating. She is very prompt to follow up on questions/requests. On the day of my wedding, Carol gave me a big hug and told me everything was beautiful. I felt that she genuinely meant it. Her graciousness (as well as 'low key-ness') helped things flow so nicely.

We booked the Woman's Club of Evanston for both our ceremony and reception. Carol Short, the facilities manager, was wonderful to work with. She was always happy to answer any questions we had and was also able to give us some recommendations for vendors who had worked at the club before. Our ceremony was upstairs in the ballroom, followed by a cocktail hour downstairs in the tea room. The ballroom was then flipped for our dinner reception. It is a truly beautiful venue and we are so happy we booked it.

My husband and I had our wedding reception here on July 24, 2010, and it was PERFECT. Let me start from the beginning.

In June of 2009, we were scouting out reception locations. We saw several of the same, boring banquet halls and hotels, and we weren't "wowed" by anything. After looking around online, I found the Woman's Club of Evanston, so we made an appointment to meet with Carol and see the Club. When we walked into the upstairs ballroom, my husband and I just looked at each other and smiled. This was definitely the venue for us. We booked right away.

I was a pretty easy-going bride, and didn't have many questions or requests. Whenever I did have a question, Carol was quick to respond. I waited until the last minute (two weeks before) to book a security guard for the night, but Carol came through with a fantastic recommendation.

My mom and I dropped off some candles that I wanted on the tables the Thursday before our wedding, and they had already started to set up our tables in the ballroom. Carol walked us through and seemed genuinely excited for my wedding. I know that she holds weddings there almost every weekend, but she still made me feel like my wedding was important to her. She took all of our vendor information and confirmed with them and provided all of the details necessary for them to schedule out the day. I thought that this went above and beyond the call of duty for Carol.

We also did our "first look" pictures here, before our ceremony. Even though we were probably going to be getting in the way, Carol was happy to let us in early so that my husband and I could have this moment to ourselves, without our bridal party.

Our guests loved this venue, and told us so countless times during the night. I could not have been any happier with our decision - I HIGHLY recommend the Woman's Club of Evanston!

LOVED this venue. Besides the fact that it's beautiful and charming, Carol (the venue coordinator) is wonderful. I had a lot of DIY projects (including flowers, chuppah, and other decorations) and Carol let me bring in everything in advance. She even watered the flowers for me and turned up the AC to make sure they lasted!

One of the reasons we picked the Woman's Club is because they will allow us to contract through Binny's for the alcohol. Binny's will deliver and pick up any unused alcohol and credit our account. This was a great option for us because we had many family members who did not drink.

While the fee may seem pricey, it does include chairs, tables, and dinner plates and water goblets, so make sure you take this into account when comparing venues.

Every time I went to the Woman's Club for vendor meetings, I loved it more and more. With its columns and high ballroom ceiling, the space is elegant but not pretentious. Best of all, Carol Short, the manager there, is wonderful to work with. She tries her best to accommodate all brides, offers helpful suggestions (she's obviously got a lot of experience!), and goes the extra mile to make your day special including "baby sitting" the card/gift table! Wonderful space for a cocktail reception in the music room and a grand reception in the ballroom.

During our engagement, the place we originally chose lost their lease...thank goodness because then we found the Woman's Club of Evanston. The place is elegant yet comfortable. We had 200 people at the wedding reception. This place was perfect because we had the cocktails downstairs in the parlor. Dinner and dancing was upstairs in their ballroom.

Carol at the WCOE was so organized that it helped me relax during the planning process.

When we were searching for a venue for my daughter's wedding, one thing that was important to us was that she'd be the only bride at the location. When my daughter visited the Woman's Club, she loved it. We used the first floor for cocktails and the ballroom for dinner and dancing. We received many compliments on the venue. Carol Short, the facility manager, was delightful to work with. You can tell she really enjoys her job (or else she's a good actor). While at first the rental cost seemed high, overall our reception costs were fairly reasonable. The flexibility they offer to pick our own caterer and obtain our own liquor helped keeped the costs down. The money the Woman's Club raises through rental maintains the facility so the money they raise through other means goes to help the community. Seemed better than lining Paris Hilton's pockets to me!

    Vibrant Elegant October Wedding

We felt immeasurably blessed to work with Gretchen and the whole Woman's Club of Evanston team for the 10 months of our wedding planning and the day-of. They exuded confidence, competence, love, and support for us throughout the process; every interaction reassured us they knew exactly how to hold an amazing wedding in their spaces. Coordinating with vendors and supporting guests all went smoothly on the wedding day. The flow of the evening from cocktail hour on the main floor to the dinner and dancing upstairs in the ballroom made for an easy transition and prevented the festivities from feeling spread too thin. We had over 170 guests and each space comfortably held the whole group. As a cherry on top, the building is stunning, augmenting photographs inside and outside. Our guests greatly appreciated being able to walk a block back to the hotels afterwards--it is truly a walkable, wonderful venue to use for your wedding.

The Woman's Club of Evanston's reply:

Wow! Sincere thanks for this incredible and detailed review. We are very grateful, thank you. Wishing you all the best in the future.

We had a wonderful experience working with Michelle and her team at WCOE. They were open to letting us bring things early, pick up things later, rehearse, and make adjustments to accommodate our large guest list. Michelle even repaired a small tear in my dress right before the ceremony! The building was renovated during our engagement, and the new bathrooms and sitting areas are beautiful. Due to the historic nature of the building, they are strict about certain rules to preserve the venue. That did not end up being a big deal, but worth asking questions if you are looking at the site. We loved the space and were pleased with how everything worked out.

We had a wonderful experience working with the Woman’s Club for our wedding ceremony and reception this April. The space is gorgeous and came with a ton of equipment (chairs, tables, dishes, etc), so we didn’t have to do much decorating or renting of supplies. Event coordinator Elizabeth and her whole team were really helpful and prompt answering all of our questions leading up to the event and were essential to pulling everything off during the rehearsal and on the day of. We had a couple of unexpected issues arise at the wedding (you plan, plan, plan, but you can’t control everything!), and they totally took the stress out of the situation for us. Speaking of unexpected, we had terrible weather on our wedding day and couldn’t take our “first look” or family and bridal party photos outside as planned. But the Woman’s Club lets you arrive at the venue 3 hours before your event, so were able to take all the photos inside before the ceremony. We were really thankful for the space’s pretty architectural elements and sunroom full of natural light.

The only cons: First, the Woman’s Club strongly recommends that you work with one of their preferred caterers, so that limits your options. Second, they don’t allow you to book a time for your rehearsal until a month out, which was tough for us as much of our bridal party and the groom’s family came from out of town and needed to book travel.

Overall, would absolutely recommend this venue!

The Woman's Club of Evanston's reply:

Kevin - Thank you so much for your kind words. It was such a joy being a part of your big day. Wishing you and Nora all the best!

I did not want the typical hotel ballroom or country club, but had trouble finding something I really liked that fit our budget. I was about to settle on something I wasn’t thrilled about when I came across the Women’s Club of Evanston. It is a beautiful old historic building with 2 floors, high ceilings in the ballroom and lots of windows. The facilities manager, Carol Short, was incredibly sweet and helpful in the planning process and coordination of the day itself (even calling me to check up and offering to make phone calls for me when our first caterer went out of business). We liked that there were no minimums to meet with this venue or the caterers they work with. It took a little extra coordination because everything is separate (food separate from alcohol etc.) but our reception turned out to be absolutely beautiful and was everything we wanted. We received lots of compliments on this venue and they we’re very easy to work with.

Though a little pricey (but not compared to those in Chicago!), this venue provided everything we were looking for. We rented the top floor only to save money, which is a nice option if you have fewer than 150 guests. The ballroom is beautiful, the exterior of the club is good looking, and parking in the area plus proximity to hotels is not bad. The ballroom was very nicely arranged with a bar in the sunroom off to the side, tables surrounding the dance floor in the middle (several options are available and you pick whatever lay out you want), a large head table that served as the focal point, and the dj on stage. The bridal party walked in during the cocktail hour to find everyone mingling and excited in the sunroom and back of the ballroom. Later we were introduced before dinner and dancing for a grander entrance, and further energy and excitement filled the room! This was the perfect place to chat with guests at their tables, dance with our parents and one another so that everyone could see, watch a slideshow together, and then dance the night away with all of our guests! Everything ran so seemlessly, it was as if the caterer and dj had worked together regularly at this venue. The event coordinator, Carol Short, is unbelievably helpful, kind, gentle, and understanding. She answered all of our questions quickly, encouraged us to keep calling or e-mailing until we felt comfortable that everything was taken care of, and was there early to help set up the room and make sure the guest arrival and cocktail hour before dinner flowed nicely. We are so grateful for all her help and couldn't imagine planning an event this big with anyone else!

My fiancé and I had our wedding reception at the Women's Club of Evanston. The venue is a historic site with a lot of charm. It looked great on the night of our wedding and we got a lot of compliments on our venue choice.

The Women's Club of Evanston is a beautiful venue. The staff are incredibly helpful and attentive and made us feel confident that our wedding would run smoothly, which it did. The location is convenient to hotels and downtown Evanston so guests were able to walk everywhere.
We highly recommend the Women's Club!

    Really loved the space!

We had our wedding at the Woman's Club and it was a great experience! Gretchen was so helpful throughout our entire process- from the moment we first walked in to tour all the way until our day was over. She is extremely kind, accommodating and communicative. We would definitely recommend!

The Woman's Club of Evanston's reply:

Yay! Thank you for this great review. It was a pleasure working with you and your family. All the best!

    Gorgeous venue, helpful people

The architecture is truly spectacular, and the two floors that they flip back and forth for ceremony/cocktail hour/reception are so smart. Being able to do everything in one building without sacrificing style or convenience was so nice.

My wedding turned out perfect. I loved the venue and Lisa was so accommodating with all our our needs. The upstairs venue is a light, light blue that almost looks white and it makes the venue very easy to transform into whatever vision you have. Everything from security to last minute changes were well handled by the staff at the Women's Club. I would not hesitate to have my wedding here again. It was a wonderful experience

We had our wedding at the Woman's Club on a snowy day in mid-December. We had picked the venue not only because it's gorgeous inside but also because it is so conveniently located (1 block from the Hilton Orrington for out of town guests, and a parking garage across the street for local ones). We had just over 100 guests and held both the ceremony and reception on the first floor, it was perfect for us -- cozy without feeling cramped, and we were very impressed at how smooth the transitions were between the ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, and dancing. The only below 5-star rating is in the area of flexibility, the rules are fairly strict (and understandably so, this is a historic building after all!) which meant we were herding our guests out at the end of the night to avoid going over our 6 hour time limit. All in all, it was a great experience and I would highly recommend the Woman's Club as a wedding venue!

Great wedding venue and great people to work with in the event planning office. It's a beautiful spot for a wedding venue -- we did a receiving line (following our ceremony at the church 4 blocks away) at the front and cocktail hour on the first floor. Then we had a seated dinner in the ballroom with just shy of 200 people and we were perfectly accommodated. I'd recommend his classic, beautiful and historic venue to anybody !!

I had my wedding (both ceremony and reception) in June of 2018 at the Woman's Club, and it was lovely. I originally had scheduled it for the weekend before, but it turned out to be Northwestern's graduation, and therefore no hotels had rooms open for traveling guests. I was very surprised that the event coordinator (different one at the time) didn't give me a heads' up that it would be a busy weekend. It worked out because we were able to switch the dates without much fuss. Jessica, the Event Coordinator at the time of the wedding, was AMAZING! She was SO easy to work with, was super accommodating, and very responsive when I had questions. Jessica offered to stay late one night to let me photographer get a look at the venue so she could start planning shots for that day. Although the staff at the Woman's Club had let me know they don't do much as far as coordination or help on the day of, they really did more than I had expected. The Woman's Club had some rules about decorations, etc., since it's an historical building, but it wasn't very restricting, and we were able to make simple changes based on their rules. They were present and helpful during the rehearsal the night before, and super helpful during the wedding. They even made sure me and my husband had a few minutes between the ceremony and reception where we could sit and relax just the two of us. Overall, it was a great experience and everything went way more smoothly than I had thought it would!

We only used the Woman's Club for our reception venue, not the ceremony. It was absolutely beautiful, the only thing I would have wished is for the rental rate to be a bit lower! It is a historical building and a nice alternative to a banquet hall or hotel. I got lots of compliments on the space!

I was recently involved with my good friend's wedding at the Women's Club of Evanston (WCE). The bride loves being crafty, and so had enlisted me to be her florist for the big day. As part of her wedding team, I was sent an email from Lisa, the facilities manager of WCE, to go over details about unloading, parking, and set up for her reception.

What I found the most disconcerting was Lisa's attitude. I found her to be abrasive, rude, and not pleasant to work with. When we got to the venue promptly 3 hours prior to the reception to begin set up, we briefly parked our car in the front. We were extremely early, there was no other vendor or car in site, and we were parked outside for a total of 25-30 min before I got an abrupt phone call from Lisa. This was the first time I had talked to her, and I assumed she was calling to make sure we had arrived there OK and to see if we needed any help. Well I was wrong. Without so much as a welcome, she demanded that we move our car immediately, stating we were blocking a fire lane, and in so many words, reprimanded me for not remembering that point in the email she had previously sent out. We rushed back to move the car, and as were trying to figure out where to park the car, Lisa (who I still had not personally met) stuck her head out of the door to again berate us about moving our car immediately!

This was not the only moment that was stressful. Every single conversation afterwards with her she continued to be curt and unpleasant to work with. She snarkily reminded me more than once that any questions I had were noted in the email she had previously sent out. Although I was there only as the bride's florist, she came up to me to inform me about various details, including clean up, disregarding the Bride's request that another lady was actually the point person for the evening.

Overall, the venue itself was beautiful, and a wonderfully historic building. Just beware of the facilities manager!

While the venue is absolutely stunning the event coordinator we had been working with had moved on to a new position a few months before our wedding. I did not meet the new coordinator until we were dropping off decorations the day before, which was a little nerve wracking. Luckily I had a friend act as a wedding planner and checked the venue before I got there and was able to correct the majority of the oversights - the tables were set up backwards so our families would have been seated farthest from us, we requested our champagne favors be put on ice however they never were, the candles on each table were not upright and just placed haphazardly, the vases for the bridesmaids' bouquets were set up in a back room rather than the room that was discussed the bridal party would be and the hors d'oeuvres set aside for my husband and I were placed back there as well (so we ultimately didn't get to enjoy any), we were told we would be gathered by the staff for a receiving line when cocktail hour was over and dinner was going to begin but I had to request that dinner be started because it was past the cocktail hour. Ultimately the event was still great, however we paid a great deal to have our wedding reception here and felt that the new events coordinator couldn’t be bothered with details.

The Woman's Club of Evanston's reply:

Thank you for letting us know about the problems. While table placement, appetizers, candles, champagne, etc. are handled by the caterer, we will note these issues for the next time they work in our venue!

The director of special events, Carol, was very professional and fairly friendly. She returned phone calls in a timely manner and was helpful with recommendations for caterers. I would say that the value was good for the amount of space and functionality of the space. They provided tables chairs and the use of the grand piano. If you rent both floors, you can use the sun rooms, cocktail room, reception room and ball room with stage. The sun rooms are wonderful for taking pictures and for guests to socialize later in the evening. I rated them lower on flexibility because we were there slightly past midnight, and were charged an extra $200. I felt that it was inflexible of them since we were gone by 12:15 and we were basically waiting for rides and taking out packages.
