I would not recommend this company at all. It’s difficult to express how much distaste I have for a company whose business practices are so shady and immoral even if not straight up illegal.
The tent we rented was acceptable and I can’t complain about the quality of tables, chairs, etc. But I will complain about them going back on their word about setting up and tearing down the event. Per the initial conversation with Holly, setting up the tables and chairs would be no problem at all. However, after making our payment and with the wedding right around the corner their “policy” suddenly changed. We were told that they didn’t offer set up or take down during their peak times and we’d have to make other arrangements. Luckily, after a discussion with the venue they reluctantly agreed to perform the task they had originally said would be no problem.
And finally, the shadiest part of the whole deal. After everything was said and done, while we were on our honeymoon, they sent an email telling us they were missing, 47 knives, 30 some odd linen napkins, some forks and a few plates. We checked with our caterer once we got home and got in touch with the venue, neither of them had seen the missing items. Now, I don’t know about you, but I have no need for 47 additional knives at my house, nor do I need 1, let alone 30, linen napkins. And while I hate to speak for all of our guests, I can’t picture any of them huddling in a corner conspiring to steal these items. After sending us an invoice, they charged our debit card over $500 without notification or permission. That is just a shady business practice.
I urge you to stay away from this company. There are too many other rental companies in Richmond that hopefully don’t make it a standard practice of lying to and stealing from their clients.
The Prop Shop Party Rentals has been a leading provider of special event rental equipment to the greater central Virginia region for over 22 years. During this time we have had the honor to work with countless brides & grooms with their rental needs in helping to make their wedding day special! As with the rental of any consumer product, the special event rental industry utilizes a "rental contract" for the rental of its equipment. As with any consumer rental product contract, the special event rental contract contains a provision which outlines a process to be followed in the event any rental items are not returned by the customer. The standard rental contract provides for recovery of the cost of any rental item not returned.
At The Prop Shop Party Rentals it is our policy to always assist our customers in every way in which we can with locating and returning any missing rental items so that we can hopefully avoid having to charge our customer for these items. Our policy begins with contact with our customer, the venue, other vendors associated with the event, as well as a thorough search of the venue for orders where we pick up our customer's rental items for them. Only after these attempts to retrieve the missing items are exhausted do we implement the missing equipment recovery provision in our rental contract which provides for our recovery of the cost of the missing items so as to not absorb a capital loss of these items. We feel that it is most unfortunate that we were not able to recover all of the rental items which Stephanie rented from us. While we certainly understand Stephanie's unhappiness with not being able to return all of her rental items and our subsequent charge for these items, we truly regret Stephanie's statement above of misrepresented accounts of our collaboration in planning and the implementation of our plan to make Stephanie's wedding day special!

The Prop Shop Party Rentals were a great vendor for our wedding at the New Kent Winery. Their staff was very friendly and helped us hand select our rentals so that our wedding reception looked exactly how we wanted. Their pricing is very reasonable, which was great for our strict budget. Finally, their coordination with our Catering company for set up of the rentals in the wedding reception tent was fantastic and beyond what we expected. Thank you for all your hard work!
My wedding planner booked all of my rentals, so my contact with the Prop Shop was very limited. But everything was perfect! No errors, prompt delivery, everything was great!
Chardonney helped us to set up the perfect wedding! Everything was exactly what we wanted and she was able to work within our budget to make the wedding look absolutely beautiful!
The lady who worked with us was professional and expierienced! You could tell she knew what she was doing and gave us helpful tips on other aspects of our wedding too. She sold us on our rental and made us feel at ease about matching colors and styles with stuff we already had. Wonderful job! Will recommend 100%

I am so glad that we chose to work with The Prop Shop for our wedding reception rentals. The final outcome was absolutely beautiful, and exactly what we had envisioned (thanks to their huge selection of rentals!). The Prop Shop team was always responsive, and was able to work closely with our caterer and venue staff leading up to our reception. Not only were there no hiccups, but The Prop Shop was actually able to work with our venue to negotiate different delivery/pickup times and save us some money. I was so impressed that they went above and beyond to make that happen. I would recommend The Prop Shop without any reservation!
Tom is the owner & he was great, especially as he had to deal with a significant root problem in putting down the dance floor. Erika was our contact & she did a very good job, as she had to take over for Ashley, who was our original contact. Erika only had a few months to get up to speed before our wedding day. She was always quick to respond to our inquiries. I highly endorse The Prop Shop as a rental company. Many thanks to all of the employees who made my daughter's day as stress free as possible!
The Prop Shop was excellent! They handled everything (tent,chairs, tables, linens, lights, fans) and I could not have asked for better quality. I probably changed my mind three times and the staff was so flexible and attentive.
Erica was great to work with. She was very patient in reworking quotes and getting us just what we wanted. She took care of all the delivery and pick up details. We were very pleased with the service and products we got from The Prop Shop.

Our event was a Rehearsal Dinner which is not an option in your drop-down menu. I would suggest adding that type of event to the list. The Prop Shop was great. On our initial meeting, we never felt rushed as we changed the look of the table many times. Their flexibility made the entire event easy as we added and deleted items frequently. Each time we received a revised quote which was helpful. We were very pleased.
We rented glassware, dinnerware, silverware and napkins. Everything was spotless and in "like-new" condition.
Every thing was handled professionally and last minute changes were accommodated seamlessly.
The only "bad" thing I have to say is the tents were not clean.We had aints all over both of them.

I ordered the white chairs based on the website because we were only going to use them for the ceremony site. When the chairs arrived, they were beaten down, rusted and looked horrible. I called the office to request different chairs and was told "rudely" that I would have to pay the upgrade charge as I ordered the "basic" chair.We had to rearrange the whole set-up to hide the ugly chairs. I wasn't expecting a brand new chair, but I was expecting a sturdy chair without paint splatter and rust on it for paying almost $200 for the chairs and delivery. I will never rent from this company again.
The Prop Shop was recommended to me by my caterer, White House Catering. White House and The Prop Shop worked together to make sure that everything was delivered at the appropriate time and we had everything we needed. I did not live in Richmond while planning my wedding and Chardonney was always quick to return my phone calls and help place my order via phone. She also worked closely with my sister in picking out exactly what we needed to match our theme and overall look for our wedding. I would use them again for any event in the future.
The Prop Shop was great. They allowed my in-laws to pick up the chairs and linens for us, everything was in great condition and available. When they did not have a tablecloth they quoted me at, they gave us a nicer one for the same price. I would recommend their services!
We used the Prop Shop for all of our rentals for our July wedding. They came recommended by our catering company and coordinated well with them. They were very accommodating and answered questions promptly.
