A Treasure in Chicago
Martina and Chayla were a DREAM to work with! I feel like I lucked out so much with them being the venue coordinators. They were so knowledgeable on what works well for the venue and also answered every question I had regarding the space. I loved learning history tidbits whenever I did a walk-thru, so then I could pass those on to the guests. We got to utilize a lot of the space and I loved the warmth of Ruggles Hall and the beautiful marble in the Lobby. I'm so happy we had our wedding here and were able to support a treasure in Chicago. -

A Beautiful and Special Venue
The Newberry Library is such a gorgeous venue, and their team is so great to work with. Martina and Chayla, and the whole events staff were all super helpful, friendly, and genuine. We used their list of recommendations when selecting our vendors and all of our other vendors did a phenomenal job - it was clear they had done their research to find a wide array of options. The reception hall (and the entire space) was beautiful. -

Historic venue for wedding weekend events!
We had our rehearsal dinner and welcome drinks at the Newberry Library in March. Martina and Chayla were extremely helpful when coordinating both events and understood our needs for the night. The Library has preferred vendors, and we used Soul & Smoke for catering - the BBQ and desserts were excellent. As a plus, we were able to bring our own alcohol from Garfield's, which was very convenient and more affordable. In addition to being a beautiful and historic space, the Newberry also has library-themed decor for table arrangements, which was such a nice touch. I highly recommend this event space for your wedding, cocktail hour, or welcome drinks! -

Chicago Vintage Weddings is the BEST
Kate and her team were PHENOMENAL! I cannot say enough GREAT THINGS about our experiences. I say experiences because we (my daughter, her now husband, and our families) were one of the many that got caught in the Covid Crunch! The first go-round back in March of 2020 was great, we were on track, everything was organized and I felt extremely comfortable and happy that things would go successfully, even though we were scheduled for our wedding in mid-April. Low and behold 2 days after our final walk through, the wedding world ended as we knew it. However, Kate and her team NEVER STOPPED WORKING! Kate handled all of the rescheduling and worked with the vendors, all was good! However, the second date fell apart due to the on-going pandemic. Now, we were onto round 3, and a full year and a half after the original date, Kate and her team were still on the top to their game. What a wonderful calming influence in what had been more than a year of struggles. We had a virtual walk through, the rehearsal was seamless, the organization was impeccable, the thoughtful consideration of all of the bride's preferences were honored with integrity. Calm, organized, efficient and firm (with a very large, somewhat loud wedding party, just prior to the service), to make the ceremony one of the best in my memory, and the what felt like seamless organization during the reception. This wedding had many disastrous moments while leading up to it, however, what often felt like a wedding that was out of our control, and exasperating, became the wedding of everyone's dream! This dream WEDDING OCCURRED BECAUSE OF KATE....if it had not been for her this would have never been accomplished, but, because of her, it was better than we could have possibly imagined, and exceeded our expectations. If you are planning a wedding in the Chicago area, I cannot recommend Chicago Vintage Weddings and Kate more highly. They are impressive in every way, and they will are sure you expectations are met or exceeded, providing you and your favorite bride and groom the wedding of their dreams. My only sadness is that I have no more children getting married and that means that I won't be able to work with Chicago Vintage Weddings and Kate again, but my appreciation will live with me forever!

Newberry Library/Washington Square Park Wedding
Chayla and Martina were our contacts at the Newberry Library when planning our wedding, and they were such great resources during the planning process. Having booked our venue in December of 2020, we had to navigate around a lot of changes and regulations with the city when it came to events. Chayla and Martina always used transparency and worked with us to give us the event we dreamed of. The venue was decorated beautifully, and they helped to relieve so much stress on the day of the wedding by helping to organize and arrange all of the vendors.

We had our wedding ceremony in Ruggles Hall. It was a beautiful venue, and Chayla and Jessica were so helpful with planning and coordination (especially making sure my groom and I didn't see each other before the ceremony). Thank you! -

Newberry Library was the beautiful site for my daughter's 9/5/15 reception. It was also the back-up site in the event of rain, as we held the ceremony across the street in Washington Square Park. The lobby of the library was a lovely location for the cocktail hour and Ruggles Hall was perfect for the dinner/dancing portion. Newberry has a stunning staircase and marble and wood floors. The architecture is classically elegant without being over-the-top. Both Chayla and Jessica were wonderful to work with. They took care of so many details and were responsive to all of our needs. I would highly recommend Newberry Library for a wedding ceremony/reception! -

The Newberry Library was the absolute PERFECT venue for our fall downtown Chicago wedding. Karen and her staff were an absolute breeze working with throughout the wedding planning process. She was KIND, professional, responsive, helpful, etc. etc. etc. When you work with Karen at The Newberry Library, not only do you get the FANTASTIC venue but you also get the opportunity to work with a truly great vendor. I cannot rave enough about Karen and her staff.
The Newberry Library felt like a hidden gem amongst all other wedding venues in the city. The architecture is absolutely beautiful inside and out. The beautiful entrance, large lobby for cocktail hour, grand staircase, and warm, cozy and inviting Ruggles Hall all made our wedding a day to be talked about and remembered for years to come.
I enjoyed that The Newberry allowed some flexibility in vendor choices- they provide a list of fantastic caterers to work with (all of which are great choices.) You will not be disappointed in your choice to have your wedding or event at The Newberry Library. -

The Newberry Library was one of the first wedding venues I saw so while I loved the space and the location, I didn't realize what a great value it was until I saw other venues around the city (Cafe Brauer, Nature Museum, Union Station, loft spaces, hotels etc). The Newberry is the best deal in town and comes with rich history, a beautiful space that you don't need to do anything to, fantastic location in the city and really wonderful people to work with. They own their own tables and chairs so that is a big cost saver right there!
We could not have been happier with our wedding at the Newberry - Karen and Chayla took such great care of us - they were there to answer any questions throughout the process and were there the day of to help coordinate with our caterer and other vendors. We held our ceremony in the park in front, followed by cocktails in the lobby with that beautiful staircase and then dinner in Ruggles hall. From beginning to end, it was the perfect day. I would HIGHLY recommend getting married at the Newberry, it is such a special place and all our guests absolutely loved it as well. -

We had the ceremony and reception there on a Saturday evening.
They were amazing. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and lovely to work with, they gave advice freely, were very responsive and were mindful of costs. They allowed us to bring our own alcohol in and use whatever vendors we wanted (within their insurance criteria). They also allowed us to use the entire venue, take pictures there before, practice dancing in the hall the week of and have the rehearsal the day prior.
They made already beautiful venue is even more stunnng and romantic by decorating for us with the tea lights and tulle.
All of this for a very reasonable price. I loved working with them and the evening was fantastic because of them!

The Newberry was the perfect place for our reception. My husband and I fell in love with it the first time we saw it. From the elegant staircase in the lobby the reception hall with windows overlooking a park to the ideal downtown location we couldn't have been happier with our choice. Karen and Karen were extrememly helpful with the planning and making sure our wedding was everything we hoped for. In addition, we were able to bring any caterer we wanted (not forced to chose from an approved caterer list) and were able to bring our own liquor which saved us a lot of $. -

The Newberry Library proved to be a wonderful location for our wedding. Jessica and Chayla made it easy to say yes to this location. When we went to Chicago to look for venues, we visited a few options, but none stood out except the Newberry. My husband and I met in grad school, so we appreciated having our wedding at a library to symbolize the environment in which we met, and the decor and facilities of the Newberry matched the kind of wedding that we wanted (elegant, but not overly ornate). The weather cooperated so we were able to do the ceremony in Washington Square Park across the street – dealing with the Chicago Park District to get the required permit was a bit of a process, but the Newberry has no control over this. We then hosted cocktail hour in the lobby, which had beautiful modern marble floors and a spectacular staircase leading up to the stacks (pictures here were amazing). The reception was held in Ruggles Hall, which had beautiful natural wood and lighting that made it really stand out. We will never forget our first walkthrough after the decor was set up. Our only headache was related to renovations that were supposed to be completed about a month before our wedding date. Our vendors were able to view the indoor space we had as a backup for the ceremony in case of bad weather 2 weeks prior to the event. However, 3 days before the event we learned that there was a problem and this space would be unavailable -- thus we needed to rework with a number of vendors to establish a new indoor ceremony option. Thankfully we were able to do the ceremony outside as desired. All-in-all, we highly recommend the Newberry to all couples. -

Chayla was a dream to work with and always responded to me very promptly, even when I was emailing once a week! The vendors they work with really understand the space and made our wedding seamless and a night to remember! The value you get (beautiful chairs, byob, etc. ) and the location cannot be beat! I couldn't recommend Newberry enough! -

The staff (Karen & Adam) at the Newberry Library were incredible. We were not in touch with them very much as our date approached, but they would always respond quickly if we needed anything.
When the day finally came, our friends and family were blow away by the beautiful venue- we couldn't have wished for anything more perfect for our wedding day. They really went above and beyond to make it a beautiful event. -

This is a review of the library as an event space - I was married at the Newberry Library on Dec 12. Yes, the Newberry has a fairly expensive rental fee. However, there are many reasons that it is worth it. 1. You can have both the ceremony and the reception in one location. 2. You can buy alcohol through Binnys and have your caterer serve it 3. The two event planners (both named Karen) are very helpful. They provide recommendations of other vendors which is very helpful considering that they see so many weddings and vendors. 4. One of the Karens will play the harp for your ceremony/cocktail hour for a small fee. 5. All of the other nice, downtown Chicago event locations are this expensive and do not have #s 1-4
The only difficult thing is that since it is a functioning library, you cant take pictures one the staircase and in the lobby much before the ceremony. They want you to stay in the upstairs rooms. Also, I was curious about rehearsals when I read reviews. We were able to have one from 4-5 on Friday. However, we did get married in the off season. Im not sure what they do when weddings are booked for both Friday and Saturday nights.

Hands down the most beautiful space to have a reception in. We loved the art deco look in Ruggles hall. We also enjoyed the fact that the venue had parking, tables and chairs, and projector in the rental price. Also the flexibility of bringing in our own alcohol helped bringing our wedding costs down. -

Karen, Adam, and the Newberry staff are great. The venue has a lobby with one or two exhibits that we used for cocktail hour, as well as a staircase that is great for an entrance. The ballroom can fit up to about 150 people. you are also allowed to supply your own alcohol which can be a huge bonus. The only drawback is you cannot store anything at the library the day before or after the wedding; at midnight we had to get everything out. -

A truly unique and elegant venue with beautiful architectural touches that even impressed my husband's male friends (think 25-30 year old men). We are still getting compliments a full month after the wedding that this was the best wedding people have ever been to! -

Beautiful Wedding Venue!
We loved getting married at the Newberry Library. It’s an absolutely gorgeous historic building in the heart of a beautiful area, and it felt like a steal price-wise. That it was BYOB really helped with the cost, especially given that we had an open bar. Martina and others on staff were very sweet and very helpful.
I will say, though, that at times, the customer service at the Newberry left something to be desired. Chayla, in particular, could be very difficult. We got married during the COVID pandemic, and because we had some immunocompromised family members, we asked all of our guests to take COVID tests and show their results at the door. Chayla was incredibly unclear about whether the security guards at the Newberry would be able to check the guests’ tests for us, even after weeks of emails and calls—I eventually had to bother the Newberry’s CFO to get a straight answer (they couldn’t—we made other arrangements). She was also terse at times—snapping at our florist during the final walkthrough for asking politely whether the width of the aisle could be changed, for example. And once, when I followed up on something Chayla had promised to do, rather than apologizing for the delay, she tried to convince me she’d never promised me anything in the first place.
Overall, we had a great experience. Especially if you aren’t doing anything out of the ordinary (read: COVID testing), the Newberry staff knows how to throw a great event. Just go in with your eyes open—you won’t get the level of customer service and attention you will likely receive from your other vendors. -

This venue is a BEAUTIFUL place to get married in Chicago. Amazing marble walls, staircase and pillars in the lobby and the Ruggles Hall dark mahogany wood makes this place classy and sophisticated. The tables and chairs are provided for the entire ceremony/reception, which was a great perk! I had my ceremony in the lobby and reception in the Hall. Karen and Adam were very nice to work with, prompt with their responses... but extremely anal about the do's/don't of the facility. I completely understand that it is a functioning library and a historic landmark, but there were times when their attitude was almost rude with requests that I had or my other vendors had. My rehearsal went slightly over the budgeted time because my wedding planner was stuck in traffic, and Adam walked up to me and said "You need to leave. NOW." Geez! Anyhoo, overall I had a great experience here and would recommend it, but if you are a bride that wants to be creative and do a little more DIY, be prepared for their strict policies and most likely some "no's" from the staff. -

The Newberry is a gorgeous venue to have any event in and my husband and I both felt incredibly grateful to have our wedding there.
Karen is amazing and works with you every step of the way. There are some constraints, it is a library after all, so you have to schedule things like the rehearsal and viewings around other events. They allow you to choose any vendors that you would like, but they do have to meet the licensing requirements, which did make for a few snags in our planning.
That said, we had a beautiful day. I love that they provide candles and decorations for the stairway. Ruggles Hall was beautiful as well, the chandeliers are WOW. We also took our pictures across the street in the park, which made for a lovely background. -
