It was a real pleasure working with the team at Half Mile Farm on my wedding -- our guests have never seen such a beautiful venue and have never experienced such amazing service. Kate, Wendy, Vivian, Jason and team truly made this the most amazing and memorable experience of my life. It was really a pleasure working with the team at Inn at Half Mile Farm. I could not pick a more serene and beautiful backdrop for our wedding. Most importantly, the service was amazing. Kate, Wendy, Jason, Vivian and the other team members when above and beyond to make my guests feel like they were out home. They went above and beyond for us and I already miss them.
I can't wait to go back and visit them on our anniversary for the rest of our lives!It was really a pleasure working with the team at Inn at Half Mile Farm. When we were looking around the area for venues to host our wedding, we came across this charming weekend retreat tucked away in the mountains. As a bride-to-be I was looking for an intimate getaway for our family and friends to enjoy time together, a romantic backdrop, and a place to spend many anniversaries. We found exactly that at Half Mile Farm, along with a nostalgic ambiance that created an unforgettable occasion. From start to finish, Kate and the staff were exceptionally hospitable and accommodating. I loved having my wedding at The Inn at Half Mile Farm! Kate and her staff were exceptional and made it incredibly easy to plan a wedding remotely from Washington DC. The weekend was so well organized by Kate and everything was taken care of. We had forgotten to get candles for te reception, but Kate found some that had been leftover from another event and made it perfect. When Kate tells you that you don't need a wedding planner - that's because she will make sure you and all your guests are well cared for. We had some special requests for the weekend that the team accommodated very well. Even 4 years later I have friends and family who mention how wonderful our wedding was every time we see them. We had some friends who told us that they had been concerned about the price of the rooms. Afterwards they all said how wonderful the rooms were, how great the food was and how convenient it was to everything. The weekend ended up costing them a lot less than other weddings because everything was right there. I cannot say enough about how positive my experience was with The Inn at Half Mile Farm. The planning of my daughter's wedding from the first visit to Half Mile Farm to tour the facilities, to the 5 days we spent on the farm for the wedding was a wonderful experience. The staff, facilities, food and grounds exceptional! Memories made in those 5 days in September 2011 will always be truly special to our family and guest. We still have guest commenting on the beautiful location and warm hospitality offered at the farm.The planning of my daughter's wedding from the first visit to Half Mile Farm to tour the facilities, to the 5 days we spent on the farm for the wedding was a wonderful experience. The staff, facilities, food and grounds exceptional! Memories made in those 5 days in September 2011 will always be truly special to our family and guest. The Inn at Half Mile Farm was the absolute perfect setting for our wedding. Every inch of the property is beautiful which provided a gorgeous setting for our ceremony and reception and backdrop for all of our pictures. The courtyard area where the band sets up seems like a small space for a dance floor, but it actually makes it more fun because everyone is dancing together! The Inn's Kate Messer served as our day-of coordinator and she worked with our vendors making sure that everything went 100% smoothly. I did not have to worry about anything all day! Our entire wedding party and family stayed on the property both Friday and Saturday which made the weekend more intimate and fun. The rooms are beautiful, upscale and clean and the breakfasts are just delicious. I can't recommend the Inn at Half Mile Farm more highly!The Inn at Half Mile Farm was the absolute perfect setting for our wedding. We could not have been more pleased with Half-Mile Farm and our wedding (long) weekend there! We stayed down in the "cabins" with our siblings and couple friends and then our parents, other friends, and family members rented out the rest of the Inn for the weekend. The rooms and grounds are really special. Our pictures are amazing! And the breakfasts are spectacular. The owner was great to work with and even made a last minute policy adjustment to ensure our weekend went off without a hitch. The Inn at Half Mile Farm is pure magic. Years later, we talk about the joy, beauty and bliss of that day on a regular basis. Does that mean everything went perfectly? No. But it means that we had a space that was so gorgeous, a team that was so loving, a set of vendors that were so professional that the day we perfect despite the weather dropping 20 degrees in 24 hours, a bus getting lost, and a tent snafu. Things happen, but the team at HMF is there with you to figure them out. Throughout the planning of our wedding weekend, Kate and Wendy provided excellent referrals, were very available, and always accommodating to my pipe dreams, while being realistic to limitations of the space and place.
Our guests felt like our wedding was an extension of our home with a level of warmth and hospitality that made it seem they had been there before. Everyone ate, drank, laughed and danced as though nothing else mattered because for the three days we were there nothing else did.
The breakfasts are delectable, the rooms, baths and bedding are divine, the grounds are meticulous, and the HMF team has become family. We've gone back to this place countless times together and most recently with our sweet baby boy, who is oh so lucky to always have part of his story connected to the Half Mile Farm.
We're already planning our 10 year vow renewal bash at the Inn at Half Mile...just 7 years to go!!!The Inn at Half Mile Farm is pure magic. The Inn at Half Mile Farm was the perfect outdoor setting. We had more people telling us it was the best wedding they had ever been to. The welcome dinner Friday night, ceremony and reception Sat. were all held at the Inn. Most of our family, friends and wedding partied stayed at the Inn or the cabins that are also there on the property. It was an amazing weekend. The owners Wendy and her daughter Kate were very professional, kind and accommodating. It was nice having Wendy and Kate as our "wedding coordinators" for they know what works best on their property and everything was flawless. We can not wait to go back to visit! They require valet parking because of limited parking places. Where the reception was located and where the band played were separate areas but it works out perfectly by opening up French doors so things flow smoothly through the main room of the Inn and it allows people who don't want to be so close to the music to get away. We really liked having the band in the court yard and set that up more fun or party-like than the reception area where we kept things a little more formal. This was our second wedding and of 50 guests total, 15 were children- children 9 and older. We rented the inn for the weekend so everyone could stay on premises. Even though we paid for everything ourselves they still insisted on running a credit card for every guest. Some of our guests are in embarrassing financial straits. Why couldn't they just charge us instead of running a visa that might not clear for $25? I clearly stated that when any guest called to reserve a room ( each room was assigned) that they were to charge us And still, people were put on payment plans because they were told that no one had paid for the room. They tried to charge us for the things required for a larger wedding- valets, tents. It took reminding them that we needed no valets or tents as all guests would be on premises. And As I was getting ready before the ceremony, I sent my daughter and stepdaughter to fetch a few things i'd left in the car. Every time they passed Wendy she yelled at them. I wish I had known just how uncomfortable they are with children. To be fair, I was informed of all of this at the outset, I just have never experienced such rigidity around rules that did not apply to our situation. If your wedding plans and wishes dovetail with their policies and their usual events, it might be a good fit for you. Dear Devon & Bob,
I am so sorry to hear that you were not happy with your wedding weekend! I went back and looked at your records -- and we did not charge any of your guests -- as you had requested all room charges to remain on your bill. Each guest's invoice showed zero charges applies. At check-in, we do ask guests for a credit card to activate the phone in their room. No charges were placed on any of the cards. If a guest does not have a credit card or chooses not to provide one, it's not a problem. Lastly, when we meet with a bride & groom for the initial tour, we are very upfront about the basic requirements and limitations. All of this is specified in the contract to avoid misunderstandings. We explain that we welcome children over the age of 12 in inn rooms, but younger children are welcome in the cabin suites. We explain that valets are required for all events where the ceremony is on the premises -- regardless of the number of guests, as they must close the road in 3 places to prevent vehicles from driving behind your ceremony. And, we explain that minimum tenting is necessary as Highlands, NC is a designated rain forest and our weather is most unpredictable. In the event of rain on your wedding day, we simply do not have indoor facilities to host everyone for a comfortable and enjoyable evening. I am sorry that you were disappointed with your weekend or if you misunderstood our requirements.
