This is a really great venue for a smaller wedding reception! My husband and I hosted about 60 people and it was the perfect size. Anything bigger would have made it seem empty, and anything smaller would have been cramped. There is a really lovely sitting area, then a great sized dance floor, the area for dining, and a huge bar. The food is great (they were very receptive to the changes we asked them to make after we did our tasting), and overall the atmosphere and location is just lovely!!
Alice is a phenomenal hostess and was so kind and professional. We really appreciate her and all her help, not only with planning, but also day of. She was an incredibly comforting presence and her friendliness was a breath of fresh air. I highly recommend doing the virtual tour of the Maxwell room on their website, then visiting in person if you're interested!! -

This venue is amazing. It has a character and charm that can’t be beat. We loved the ambiance from the moment we saw it. The food is fantastic and they have all you could need to have a great time.
If all that wasn’t enough, Libby (the venue coordinator) is a dream. She takes care of everything and makes the process so easy and fun. Not only did Libby provide us with a wonderful experience and ideas that were perfect for our day, she recommended fantastic vendors which made things a piece of cake. Libby raved about our vendors and for good reason, they were all awesome. Beyond that, every vendor couldn’t stop telling us how lucky we were to be working with Libby and they were right.
You can’t go wrong with hosting an event at the Historic Maxwell Room and Libby is the icing on the cake! Thank you for an amazing experience! -

I had my wedding at the Maxwell Room on 12/17/22 and it was absolutely perfect! Libby was a wonderful help from the start in coordinating the event and everything went off without a hitch, even though we ended up with around 15 more people than we'd originally planned for.
We got so many compliments on how awesome the venue was from our guests. The food and service were perfect as well. This venue such a gorgeous hidden gem and I highly recommend it to all. -

This beautiful venue is everything you could dream of and more. Mrs. Libby (the building coordinator) is the most professional and welcoming person. The staff is sweet and understanding and goes above and beyond to make your wedding dreams come true. They are flexible with vendors coming in and have a great list of vendors to provide you as well. I couldn’t have found a better venue that met all of my needs from the day of the wedding to planning and food tasting. You will not regret this venue. -

Beautifully perfect!
My gosh did I love having my wedding here! Not only is this venue beautiful and the perfect size for an intimate wedding, but it is just ran so well! Libby is just so fantastic to work with and truly knows what she’s doing when it comes to wedding and events! We were so lucky to be able to work with her and have our wedding here! I couldn’t have imagined a better day! -

So greatful I found this place!
I am so pleased with how everything turned out and I'm so greatful I found this place! Libby was such a pleasure to work with and helped me tremendously. I had an issue with my original venue and about 6 months out I realized I needed to switch venues and found the Historic Maxwell Room and it was a godsend! I could call or email Libby with any questions or concerns and she was happy to help. Libby and her team took my vision and executed everything perfectly. I was a little disappointed that it rained and I could not have my cocktail hour outside but they made it an easy transition from ceremony to reception and it really didn't matter. I got to have the wedding of my dreams for a very reasonable price. If your looking for a romantic vintage wedding like I was this is the place! Everyone couldn't stop talking about how beautiful it was and how amazing the appetizers were! Thank you Libby for giving me my dream wedding! -

Intimate venue is perfect for a guest count of 60-80 people. It didn't feel too big or too small. The atmosphere is everything! Guests commented on how elegant and romantic it was all night, and there were many compliments on the food too. Thank you to Libby and her staff for the memories!! -

Love the Maxwell Room!
Where do I start? Libby is a dream to work with. Her and her staff made our wedding day stress-free! When our officiant couldn’t make it for the rehearsal, she was there to help up plan the ceremony. She was super quick to respond to any of the questions that I had when planning the event. And was there the whole night making sure all was well. Libby and her whole team, even the staff at the Downtowner, welcomed us like friends any time we asked to see the space to plan or decorate. The Maxwell Room was the only space I could find in my area that offered that northern, romantic type of local. Being in South Florida, the main options are ballrooms or hotels, and I didn’t want any of that. We kept getting compliments all night at how beautiful the space was. -

We got married in February 2019, and I cannot tell you how wonderful of an experience it was to work with the Historic Maxwell Room. Libby first off is super down to earth and so accommodating. Our wedding started as a courthouse idea and went all the way to a full fledged wedding. So we had a few changes here and there through out the 5 months of planning, and it was never a problem for Libby and her team. The price is right and totally available on the website. No need for the pesky contact inquiries, you can find it right there in front of you. And for what you get, the food is phenomenal, the drinks are plentiful, and it made for an incredible night. Service is top notch! And the actual appearance of the place is so unique especially in South Florida. You won't find another place like it ladies. Please look no further! It's an incredible place, and Libby and her team are WOW WOW WOW! We used a lot of Maxwell's recommended vendors, and it was like working with a family of people who don't know you but want you to have an amazing day. Thank you so much! We had our wedding reception here and it was the perfect location. The inside is warm and inviting. The courtyard is a beautiful location for a photo shoot. Very little decorating required. The staff and food were great and attentive to our guest. Libby is the absolute BEST! Professional, knowledgeable, and very helpful. She was a joy to work with. -

Stop looking for a venue and book here! Libby is fantastic! Everything was perfect for my wedding day! How many brides say that? The venue was one of the biggest reasons. Libby has thought of everything. Food was great. -

HISTORIC MAXWELL ROOM - THE MOST PERFECT VENUE IN ALL OF FORT LAUDERDALE!
As a wedding planner/mother of the bride, it was a challenge to find a venue that provided a cool, offbeat vibe, 5-star service and fabulous food. I found it at the Maxwell Room. Last weekend, our families and closest friends celebrated our daughter's wedding in the most perfect space.
The Cuban food, creatively prepared by Chef Lou was superb and plentiful, the service by Libby and her team was impeccable. The space was intimate, warm, inviting and comfortable. It felt like a mix of vintage Havana, New Orleans and funky Brooklyn. Imagine that, a first-class venue with delicious food, white-glove service and a funky fabulous space to celebrate in, while still being affordable!
The experience exceeded my expectation on every level.
Hats off to an amazing team and a spectacular venue!
If I could, I would give it 10-STARS!

She was quick to respond and even helped us determine how we wanted to decorate the venue when we were toying with different ideas. The staff was incredible as well the day of. Very pleasant and quick service. Our guests absolutely enjoyed themselves. And the exposed brick, long bar, and ambience of the venue was perfect for our wedding! Thank you Libby for making our vision of a great day come true!

Libby, the event coordinator was so accommodating with all of our requests and very helpful as well. When it finally came to the day off, the staff was on point and gave all of our guest amazing service. The food was delicious. So many of our guests couldn't get enough of the steak! This location was so perfect and I highly recommend this venue for any size wedding. We had 100 guests and there was still room to party, dance and room around and still get that romantic intimate feel. -

Our wedding turned out beautiful! Libby was amazing and answered all our questions in a timely matter and did everything she could to make sure we were happy. This venue is a secret little gem in South Florida. We really didn’t want a hotel ballroom or anything stuffy like that and when we saw this space we fell In love. It is perfect on its on with the brick detail and romantic lighting. But once we decorated, it all came together just how I dreamed. Thank you so much!! -

If you're looking for package deals, look no further. This little venue is situated right on the New River and shares a kitchen with the Downtowner restaurant (owned by the same people, I think). While I was a little nervous a few times during the year leading up to my wedding due to the fact Libby, the event coordinator, kept forgetting who I was (bless it, I don't blame her - she has hundreds of events to coordinate at all times)... my fears were unfounded.
She is so flexible and helps offer up suggestions for setting your event up. She has been doing this for years and she absolutely knows what she's doing. And the venue is GORGEOUS when it's all done up. Hell, it's gorgeous all by itself.
My guests kept telling me for days after how much they loved my venue and how did I find it and what a gem, etc etc.
They also kept commenting on Libby's staff - and how they were the best wedding staff they'd ever experienced. Seriously guys, the bartenders took CARE of my people. The wait staff was there with the passed appetizers during cocktail hours and did not let anyone get hungry. They had all the food out promptly, they kept people topped off and they were so kind and welcoming.
I didn't think my night could be as perfect as it was (and as affordable). And the Maxwell Room made it possible. -

Historic venue hidden in the heart of Fort Lauderdale
Absolutely amazing! First, Libby, the coordinator, is easy going and wants to help you make your vision come through. Secondly, the venue is gorgeous. I was looking for a historical venue, for a vintage literary theme wedding and this place was perfect. It's cozy, perfect for my 60 guests. Their courtyard is romantic and the inside is out of this world. Guests loved the location and the FOOD! omg the food is top-notch. Their servers, everyone that worked the night of our wedding were 100% professional and helpful. All the pictures look like a Jane Austen book. -

Jenna Sent on 03/14/2013This historic venue was a perfect place for our wedding. Gigi and her staff hands down did a great job! I gave four stars in value because I feel their price per plate/person is a bit steep. It was a beautiful and unique non typical reception, thank you Maxwell Room!
