The most delicious dairy-free and gluten-free wedding cake!

We ordered cake for our civil ceremony. I (the bride) have a dairy allergy to milk protein casein. My bestie has a gluten allergy. I wanted us to be able to enjoy the cake on this special day, so I spent a day eating dairy-free gluten-free cupcakes from local bakeries. Happy Tart had the most delicious ones and I was super excited to learn that not only can this bakery create beautiful buttercream flowers, they could add the paint texture to the icing. My husband and I are both artists so it had a special meaning for us. I requested for a single-tier cake since there would be less than ten people at our ceremony. They were able to create the flowers I requested in the right colors: hydrangeas and sampaguita (Philippine flower similar to jasmine). We opted for simple chocolate and vanilla flavors for the cake and vanilla for the icing. All the guests loved the cake and no one could tell it was dairy-free or gluten-free. We both highly recommend Happy Tart!

So good our wedding guests didn't know it was gluten-free!

We ordered our wedding cake through The Happy Tart bakery, and it was absolutely stunning! It looked gorgeous, well beyond our hopes and dreams. And it was delicious, too! Our guests couldn't tell that it was gluten-free; many of them said it was the best wedding cake they'd ever had. There wasn't a single piece left at the end of the night! If you're looking for a beautiful, delicious gluten-free wedding cake, work with The Happy Tart -- we cannot recommend them highly enough!

Beautiful and delicious! You would never know it is gluten-free!

The cake was absolutely delicious. No one would have realized it was gluten-free. It was decorated with beautiful edible flowers. The delivery was perfect. I really appreciated the tasting we scheduled in advance, but that did make it difficult to narrow down the choices because we loved every single option! In the end, we chose different flavors for the layers: raspberry almond and lemon. They added the monogram we sent. I am so happy with the entire experience working with this vender as well as the end result. So many "Wow, this cake is amazing!" comments from guests.

Gluten Free Goodies!

We were so pleased with the desserts and cake we got from The Happy Tart! My mother-in-law is completely gluten intolerant and several other members of my husbands family are gluten sensitive so gluten free desserts were a must! I also don't like cake, so one large cake was not going to do. Instead we had one small cake in my husband's favorite flavors that functioned as our wedding cake but was really his cake and then the folks at the Happy Tart were able to make fruit tarts and mousse shots for the rest of the guests. I love fruit tarts and the ones they made were amazing! It was exactly what I wanted in desserts for my wedding, for the budget I had and COMPLETLY GLUTEN FREE. My guests raved about the desserts. Except for our immediately family, no one knew everything was gluten free and when I told some people that later they were astonished! Emma was amazing to work with, there was a small snafu in the scheduling and she was working on multiple weddings the same day as mine and she still made it work. I highly recommend The Happy Tart for a sweet gluten free dessert for your celebration!

Everything we wanted in our wedding cake

Happy Tart made us our gorgeous AND delicious wedding cake--two things I didn't think would be possible with our budget. (And it was gluten free!) I was amazed at how quickly Emma nailed a cake style that fit our theme to a T, and how tasty every sample of wedding cake was -- it was hard to pick just one flavor. We loved working with Happy Tart.

Our guests absolutely loved our gluten-free cake!

While I'm gluten-free, my husband and most of our guests are not, so we opted for a (regular, gluten-filled) dessert bar through our venue/caterer and a ceremonial cake from The Happy Tart. I love the cafe in Falls Church, but asked around for recommendations for a gluten-free wedding cake – and SO many people recommended The Happy Tart. Because they weren't doing in-person cake tastings, we picked up a cupcake sampler and took it home for a virtual tasting with Emma over Zoom. They were delicious! We couldn't decide on a single flavor for our two-tier cake, so Emma did one of each: vanilla salted caramel and almond-raspberry. We provided a few inspirational photos via email and Emma and her team took it from there. The Happy Tart delivered the cake to our venue in Washington, D.C., and Emma decorated it with flowers that our florist provided. It was gorgeous! While we never intended to serve the cake to everyone (selfishly I wanted to eat it with my three Celiac friends), our venue/caterer ended up slicing it anyway and plating it with the dessert bar. I was so bummed to not get any cake beyond a bite during our cake cutting, but our guests raved about it! They had no idea it was gluten-free, and I think we managed to convince a handful of gluten-eating friends and family to start eating GF pastries! I can't say enough amazing things about The Happy Tart.

Amazing Gluten Free Cake!

From the time we got engaged, we knew we'd be calling Happy Tart to discuss our wedding cake. We were able to mix and match flavors from our tasting (using cupcakes), and Emma did a small cake for us and we ordered an assortment of cupcakes as well. The result was that everyone got cake they absolutely loved. Our caterer packaged the leftover cupcakes in takeout containers, so people were able to grab them as they left also! The cake was delicious (we did lemon cake, raspberry filling, and lemon buttercream), and absolutely gorgeous. The cupcakes were to die for (salted caramel, banana nutella, almond raspberry, and triple lemon), and everyone is still talking about them! We've been Happy Tart customers for a long time, and we'll be customers for life!

Happy Tart made us the most delicious wedding cakes!

We used to spend every Saturday morning at Happy Tart when their Del Rey location was still open, so when we got engaged we knew that’s where we’d get our wedding cake. Emma, the owner, sat with us for our initial tasting, and she answered our many questions about flavor combinations and cake styles that would fit within our budget. On our wedding day, I happened to arrive at the venue with my bridesmaids while Emma was setting up the cake. She gave me a big hug and asked what I thought, and I was blown away by how perfectly she captured our vision for the cake design. She also said the topper wasn’t on yet because she didn’t want to get frosting on the bottom of it (which is great because it’s a keepsake music box). As if her care and attention weren’t enough, the kitchen and display cakes she made were delicious and we got rave reviews from our guests. We’re so glad we saved the top layer for our anniversary! If you want a delicious cake and warm, caring service, we highly recommend Happy Tart.

Beautiful and Tasty Cake

Emma did a wonderful job with our wedding cake! We had a tasty tiered cake with lemon and chocolate flavors with a beautiful slate-blue ombre frosting job. Our guests were shocked to hear the cake was gluten-free, and since choosing Happy Tart for my wedding cake over a year ago, I've become a dedicated Happy Tart aficionado. Their eclairs are amazing, just FYI. Everything went great with the cake and design and I couldn't be happier!

Best GF cake of all time

We got a small wedding cake from the Happy Tart -- just something for my husband and I to cut and eat -- and it surpassed all expectations! Was delicious, beautifully decorated, and affordable! Would highly recommend.

We got a gluten free cake and gluten free/dairy free cupcakes for our wedding. Happy Tart was so easy to work with. We reached out a few weeks before the wedding to see if they could deliver the cake and cupcakes to our venue (about 2 hours away) and there were no issues. The cake was SO YUMMY and BEAUTIFUL!

We had such a wonderful experience working with Emma and the Happy Tart team on our wedding cake! I have celiac so I needed a gluten-free cake for our wedding and decided to check out Happy Tart at the recommendation of a friend who had her wedding cake done by Happy Tart. Shortly into our tasting, I knew Happy Tart was who I wanted to work with! Emma was incredibly friendly and professional and greeted us warmly upon our arrival. She took the time to sit with us during and explain each of the different flavor options she had us try and talked about the different flours used, how different icings could withstand heat (we had a summer wedding), etc. Everything we tasted was incredibly delicious (as our wedding guests later attested to and agreed!) and the whole tasting experience really stood out compared to some of the other places we visited (only plain chocolate or plain vanilla gluten-free options; no one really available during tasting to answer any follow-up questions). Emma was also a pleasure to work with when we started to design our wedding cake and it turned out exactly as my husband and I had imagined! We'd highly recommend working with Happy Tart for your wedding cake!

Try the magic that is this incredible cake!! Everyone LOVED our wedding cake, even guests who aren't huge fans of sweets. We had a perfect wedding day, and everyone had something wonderful to say about the cake. We had to stay late just to squirrel away the last few pieces. Absolutely amazing!

Our 3 tier cake was absolutely delicious. I had several guests comment that they felt bad I couldnt eat my own wedding cake since it must be a gluten cake. I let them know it was indeed a fabulous gluten free cake and I had enjoyed every bit.

I have celiac disease and was so nervous about getting a gluten free wedding cake. We went with Happy Tart and no one even could tell it was GF! The cake was beautiful, looked exactly as we had discussed with Emma, and it was truly a centerpiece of our wedding.

I have celiac disease and have frequented the Happy Tart since they opened their first location in Del Ray, so when we started planning our wedding I knew immediately that I would want them to do our dessert. We had them do a dessert table with a small two-tiered cutting cake and a variety of other desserts (cupcakes, mini apple pies, cream puffs, chocolate mousse). Emma was very helpful in providing suggestions on the number of desserts and the amount of variety to have for the table, and she was open to making just about anything we could have dreamed up. On the wedding day, Emma arrived on time and set everything up. The display was beautiful, and everything was so delicious!! The dessert table was a big hit with our guests - most people didn't even know that everything was gluten-free, and they loved having a variety of things to choose from.

I give the Happy Tart an A+ rating because my experience with Emma Cech and her service in providing the cake for my wedding was absolutely top notch in every way! When my fiancée and I initially met with Emma to discuss the cake, Emma was extremely helpful in showing us pictures and giving us suggestions as to what could be done. The cake samples that we ate were all delicious and the time of planning with Emma was non-stressful and just fun! The day of the wedding I was delighted with the beauty of the cake, adorned with its delicate pink icing, intricate white lace border, and fresh roses which cascaded down the sides of each of the three tiers! The cake was truly the highlight of my desserts only wedding!

It's gluten-free and absolutely delicious and I mean that. It was flavorful and moist, just how any dessert should be.

I got married on Saturday, 9/3 (Labor Day Weekend) and I had Happy Tart create a cake and all the desserts for my dessert table. It was fabulous. Everyone loved it, even the ones who were skeptical about gluten-free desserts. With my sweet tooth, the cake and desserts were very important to me and Happy Tart didn't let me down.

Emma was very accommodating and creative when it came to my cake and desserts so if I had to do it all again, I would in a second.

We had a small cake made for our wedding a few weeks ago and could not be more pleased with how it turned out. Emma was able to purchase fresh flowers from the farmers market to decorate with, which were just stunning. Most importantly, the cake was delicious and all our guests enjoyed it!

My husband and I absolutely loved working with Happy Tart. From the tasting to the final product, Emma was fantastic to work with the final result was AMAZING! I had an idea of what I wanted for the wedding cake, chatted about it with Emma, and she made it come to life in the most perfect way possible. The cake was absolutely delicious and our guests were wowed with how beautiful it was. I would whole-heartedly recommend Happy Tart to anyone who is interested in a great cake at a great price.

Book the Happy Tart for your wedding cake! Completely professional, reasonable, intimate and responsive. I cannot highly enough recommend this vendor! And no one knew it was gluten-free!!! Absolutely perfect.

My wedding cake was dainty, decadent, and DELICIOUS! It's hard to find tasty gluten-free foods, but my fiance and I knew we hit the jackpot during our tasting with The Happy Tart. The tradition is to freeze slices of your cake and enjoy it all over again on your 1 year anniversary -- we don't know if we can hold out that long :-)

The Happy Tart created a beautiful, allergen-friendly wedding cake for our reception. No one had the slightest clue that they were eating a gluten free cake, everyone loved it. The cake tasting process was very pleasant, there were plenty of options for all kinds of tastes so plenty of room to be creative. They were very responsive to some changes in schedule, and delivery was smooth. Don't forget to visit them for pastries and their amazing quiche (my favorites) too.

Emma Cech, of The Happy Tart in Falls Church, has created a remarkable French Patisserie that happens to be completely gluten free. Being Celiac, we had used The Happy Tart before, but the wedding cake tasting exceeded our expectations by far. There is a cute tasting room, where Emma paraded small samples of decorated cakes with all of the various flavors that were so great because of her use of real ingredients, like buttercream frosting and melted chocolate. Just tell Emma what your vision is and she will over deliver! She impressed the staff of the Comus Inn, our venue, with the very professional delivery of the cake and they made sure that we heard about it. The cake was gluten free, as is everything in The Happy Tart, and was decorated with remarkably life-like sugar flowers. No one could believe that the cake could be so good and be gluten free, but it was.

The cake was amazing. 3 people in the wedding party were gluten free, including the bride, but no one at the reception had a clue the cake was gluten free. The sugar hydrangea's on the cake were beautiful and the cake design was just as I had pictured! I couldn't have asked for more!

We love The Happy Tart!!! I am gluten free and so a traditional wedding cake wasn't possible for our wedding and we didn't want our guests to have to eat GF, so we ordered our wedding cake through Happy Tart -- our go-to for cupcakes and GF pastries in Alexandria. The tasting was awesome, Emma is super creative and flexible. We loved our cake and can't wait to eat it again!!! Highly recommend.

My husband and I were thrilled with our wedding cake. Emma, the owner of the Happy Tart was readily available and worked with us to customize our cake. We had a terrific tasting to select the cake, filling, and icing options and the final creation exceeded our expectations. Emma went out of her way to locate the color orchids we wanted cascading down the cake and delivered the cake to our home for our reception. It was an excellent experience!

Emma and the Happy Tart team made our wedding amazing. My partner had a number of allergies and intolerances (e.g. gluten, corn, and soy). Walking into the wedding process, we didn’t expect to be able to have a cake that would be delicious and accommodate both our and the guests needs. Emma worked with us and patiently answered all of our questions. She was able to safely accommodate all of our allergies, create a beautiful, painted cake, and make tasty and adorable desserts. We had delicious and exciting flavor choices, and our guests loved it!

The Happy Tart outdid themselves with our wedding cake!! Not only was it absolutely beautiful, but it was delicious!! Our guests had no idea the cake was gluten free; they all were incredibly complementary of the cake! I highly recommend The Happy Tart!

The detail on the cake was outstanding, exactly what we were looking for. Only sad part was there was way too much cake. The amount of icing on the cake made it exceedingly heavy but it was very good. Will definitely do business with them again.

Emma and the Happy Tart had come highly recommended from two other brides, as well as friends who have purchased their cakes for birthdays. Emma made it super easy to schedule a cake tasting, was incredibly flexible when we needed to add another small cake due to our wedding size, and even agreed to drop off the cake later than initially planned because of a room at the venue that needed to be flipped. She made exactly what we wanted, working off of a picture that I sent her from Pinterest and the detailed notes that she took during our consultation. She also worked with us to ensure that the flowers we wanted on the cake were exactly how we'd envisioned them. The cake was gorgeous and most of all, delicious! All of the guests thought all three flavors were super tasty and couldn't believe that it was all gluten-free! We weren't looking for a gluten-free cake, but it tasted so good that we didn't care and thought it would allow more people to eat the cake at the wedding. Finally, the price point was a lot less than other bakeries in the area. Highly recommend the Happy Tart!

My mom actually found Happy Tart for me a few years ago after learning I had a gluten intolerance. After getting all of my gluten free treats exclusively here for the past few years, I knew it would be THE place to getting our wedding cake for our wedding this past October. From the very beginning, the process was a breeze. Emma was a pleasure to talk to. She replied promptly to my emails and helped me reschedule our tasting a couple of times when things came up. I have to say that my fiancé (who is not Gfree) and I were very impressed with all of the tasting selections. It was hard for us to choose just one! We ultimately ended up going with a three tiered vanilla cake with one layer of buttercream frosting and two layers with salted caramel frosting. The cake turned out exactly how I wanted it to look and it was very very tasty. Surely recommend Emma and the Happy Tart!

When I found out I had a gluten allergy I thought I would never eat cake again and for the first 4 years I didn't. Happy tart changed that for me - I was the only gluten free person at our wedding and everyone loved the cake. Infact most of the guest didn't even know it was GF!

Emma was awesome in designing three different flavored cupcakes (husband's choice), a tier cake for cutting (my choice), and the cupcake tower and signs. We got extras and everyone kept going back for more! I've also had other cakes for bridal/baby showers. I absolutely LOVE them! She can do buttermilk cakes, fondont cakes, cupcakes, etc.

Emma is a gluten-free genius!

To set the context: I'm a longtime professional food editor/writer with a special expertise in gluten-free food (both of my adult children are gluten free). That means I've reviewed zillions of GF products over the years, both fresh and packaged. For my daughter's October wedding, we were looking for a dedicated gluten-free baker -- not a jump-on-the-GF-fad baker, but someone who really knew what she or he was doing -- to provide a small wedding cake and cookies. We visited The Happy Tart in June for a complimentary tasting of Emma's many incredible creations. My daughter and fiance then settled on a small cake (vanilla with salted-caramel buttercream frosting) and 100 chocolate crackle cookies, all gluten free and all spectacularly delicious.

Emma's secret flour blend and technique are incredible. The taste and the texture were perfect -- not dry, not crumbly, and not sandy like so many lesser GF baked goods. At the wedding, everything was a huge hit with gluten-free and regular eaters alike! Emma was also a pleasure to work with, and the prices were astonishingly reasonable (especially for high-quality GF ingredients).

The Happy Tart provided us with a small 3-tier cake (4, 6 and 8 inches) and then two sheet cakes which provided us enough cake for 110 guests. The almond cake with almond buttercream and raspberry jam was amazing! We also got a chocolate cake with caramel buttercream which was also delicious. We were able to pick up the cake the day before the wedding and store it in our hotel fridge, so we didn't have to pay for delivery. They also provided a cake safe for $25, so we could transport the 3-tier cake without worrying about it tipping over or anything. The cake was very moist and still good a few days after the wedding!

I had a wonderful time working with Emma on my wedding cake! We wanted a GF cake because both myself and husband are GF and we wanted to be able to enjoy the cake as well as our guests! I must say that beginning with the cake tasting we were blown away by how amazing everything tasted! Having made a fair share of cakes in my life GF I was truly impressed! I was also really pleased with the amount of flavors we were able to try. We ended up going with Salted Chocolate Caramel and Vanilla with Strawberry filling! Both were to die for! Working via email was a breeze and being able to pay online was very nice!

I did not see the cake until after dinner and was blown away by how beautiful it looked! Then I got to taste it! Oh was it amazing! The guests LOVED it and I heard so many compliments! No one knew it was GF and everyone else who is GF so appreciated being able to actually eat the cake! We still have our top tier which I wasn't planning on keeping, but now I'm kind of glad. We won't wait until next year to eat it, but I'm glad I get to have some left overs and enjoy it at home.

The process was so easy and I can't wait to order more cakes in the future! Thank you!

I knew of The Happy Tart through friends, and met with the cake designers for the tasting. They were able to draw a picture right there and send me a contract.

The 50th Anniversary cake was beautiful! The roses on the cake were detailed & exquisitely made. Most guest were completely unaware that the cake was gluten free, but our two guests with Celiacs were very excited to be able to have cake too. The cake tasted amazing and received rave reviews from our guests. The staff was professional, courteous, and easy to work with. Their delivery & set up at our event was flawless. The Happy Tart made a beautiful large three-tiered gf cake for my daughter's wedding in May. The cake was outstanding. Carmel was the filling and it was just amazing - it melted in your mouth, and the fluffy buttercream frosting perfect.
It was simply decorated exactly to my daughter's specifications - with real candied organic roses on the top and placed strategically on the tiers, trimmed with icing in her wedding colors. It was very beautifully executed.
We're always happy with desserts from the Happy Tart, but this was amazing.

Working with Emma to design our wedding cake was wonderful and easy! Since I have a gluten allergy, I was worried about finding a cake for my wedding that would make me AND my guests happy. We heard about Happy Tart from a friend, and read up on it. I was pretty much sold before we even did our tasting. When I read Emma's back story, I knew that she would make a quality, gluten-free cake. Emma and the Happy Tart completely exceeded my expectations with the cake they created! She was so careful in the planning process, and the cake turned out incredibly gorgeous. At the reception, we didn't tell our guests that the cake was gluten-free, and I had so many of them come up to me and ask who did my cake! We had a cake made that was big enough for 150 guests, and while we only had about 130 come to the wedding, we only had a little of the bottom layer (lemon and strawberry buttercream) left the next day. People went up for seconds AND thirds. I didn't even get a taste of the other two flavors at the reception, caramel with salted caramel filling and chocolate with vanilla buttercream. I am completely blown away and will be using them for all my big events in the future!

Our wedding cake was delicious, beautiful and gluten free! We were able to try many types of cake and ended up going with a 3 layer and then a sheet cake. All of the flavors were great and our guests couldn't tell that it was gluten free. The cake was beautiful on the outside and I almost didn't want to cut it, but then i remembered how good it tasted and we dove right in! Emma was easy to work with and very responsive. Her cake looked exactly like the picture I sent her. We also had an unfortunate incident where our hotel through out our anniversary topper. The hotel contacted Emma and she was quick to make us a new one exactly like our original. I cannot recommend Happy Tart enough.

Happy Tart provided the dessert bar and wedding cake for my daughter's wedding. They arranged a tasting for us several months in advance of the wedding and worked with us to choose just the right assortment. They were very flexible and helped us find just the right choices and sizes. They were very open to customizing it for us. Happy Tart also gave us very accurate information on just how much to order with 3 different price points. We set up our own arrangement for the dessert bar and they provided us with photos to help us along.
The event was held 2 hours away and for a fee they transported it all and were reliable with the delivery.
No one could believe all the desserts were gluten free! and her count was right on with just a small amount left over.
I would highly recommend Happy Tart for anyone...gluten free or not. Selection, price and of course delicious goods are all available. Most of all they are so nice to deal with.

Happy Tart mad a cake that so far exceeded our dream cake, we were really just in awe. It was so much more beautiful than a cake we saw in a magazine online that we hoped to model our wedding cake on. On top of that, Happy Tart's cake was just delicious. Our wedding cake from the Happy Tart was just beautiful and so yummy! We had three layers in total, two layers of chocolate with raspberry jam and raspberry buttercream and one large layer of red velvet with cream cheese frosting. The design work on the cake was very intricate with peach sugar lace on the bottom of each tier, white on white scrollwork throughout, and gum paste peonies at the base of each tier. The final product was gorgeous and all of our guests complimented us on how good the cake was! The owner (Emma) was very easy to work with throughout the entire process and the cake was delivered to our venue in perfect condition! Also worth noting that our cake tasting at Happy Tart was awesome with six different cake combinations included. It was one of our very favorite parts of wedding planning! I highly recommend the Happy Tart for your wedding cake needs! As a celiac, they were a trusted vendor with a high quality product in both taste and appearance.

The Happy Tart exceeded our expectations for our wedding cake in both flavor and appearance. We worked directly with Emma, the owner, to select the size, shape, flavors, and decorations appropriate for our Aquarium wedding. We were able to email several photographs of different decorations that we wanted combined on our cake and received feedback on how the decorations would be achieved. Payment reminders were emailed to us well in advance with a secure link to make the payment online. Everything was affordable. They were extremely flexible, we were able to make changes to everything involving our cake order up until two weeks before our wedding. The owner personally delivered and set up our cake well in advance of our wedding. Our guest told us repeatedly how our wedding cake was more moist and flavorful than any other wedding cake they had in the past. No one could tell it was gluten free. The hardest thing we encountered was picking our flavors since we were given 6 phenomenal tasting slices of cake during our tasting. Can't wait to work with them for all our future life events.

I highly recommend The Happy Tart.

The owner designed a three-tier wedding cake for us with the following combinations: chocolate cake with chocolate mousse filling, spiced cake with cream cheese filling, and chocolate cake with a chocolate buttercream filling. The whole cake was frosted in white buttercream with highlights of purple icing. They made a topper for us out of molded chocolate mixed in with honey.

The product was delicious (moist cake with tasty fillings that were rich, but not too sweet). Tastings were a cinch to schedule, and the owner made amendments to the contract quickly and painlessly (we changed our piping color).

The Happy Tart delivered for us. We were very happy we selected them and wouldn't hesitate to do so again.

We purchased a 2 tier wedding cake from The Happy Tart. It was so beautiful! It was covered in ivory fondant and wrapped in white lace and a large bow on the side with white roses on the top. It was beautiful, I've never seen anything like it before! Emma and her staff were so helpful, they were able to deliver on Sunday (which I know some vendors will not deliver on Sunday) and she was able to answer my questions in a timely manner via e-mail. You would think that a gluten free cake would taste different but this cake you couldn't tell at all! My husband and myself do not have a gluten allergy but this store had awesome reviews we just had to check it out! I highly recommend this place to others not only for a wedding cake/ special occasion cake they also have other yummy treats too!

We ordered a small ceremonial cake from Happy Tart--we did a sheet cake for our main wedding cake but wanted something to cut that would also be good for our gluten-free guests. Happy Tart delivered! I was worried about the cake looking sad because it was so small, but it looked gorgeous with TONS of flowers on top in our wedding colors, and tasted delicious--you couldn't even tell it was gluten free! People loved it and really appreciated that we had that option.

We were absolutely pleased with all aspects of quality, taste and service that Emma and her team at The Happy Tart provided for our wedding. Coming from small-town Iowa we were looking to do business with a local vendor in our neighborhood after recently moving to the area. We had first used The Happy Tart for a house-warming party where everyone was raving about how good the food tasted and gushed over the fact that it was gluten-free. We had family and friends attending our wedding who also required gluten-free items and decided to give Happy Tart a try. Upon our first tasting we knew we had made the perfect decision to have them make our wedding topper and cupcakes. Our guests were even more than pleased as people ended up having multiple cupcakes!!! They were that good! We easily could have paid a lot more money for cupcakes - but there was no way the taste would be as good as what Happy Tart provided. The cupcakes were light, extremely tasty and perfectly made for a summer outdoor event. We love that fact that Happy Tart is in our neighborhood and we are happy to look forward to future events where we use their services again. Whether you a gluten-free diet or not - The Happy Tart is a great small-business that will make your tummy very happy.

What a wonderful treat!!! We used Emma and her team at the Happy Tart for our wedding...we aren't necessarily cake people, so we wanted to have a lot of options for our guests and also a small cake to cut - AND it had to fit our theme!! Emma listened to our scattered thoughts, and ran with it! I can honestly say, the sweet table was one of the hits of our awesome wedding! Not only was it GORGEOUS and fit the theme beautifully, but everything was absolutely delicious! In fact, when we were cutting the cake, my husband and I looked at each other and said - "Oh my goodness, that's delicious!" :)

Kudos to Emma, who went above and beyond by designing something that was delicious and perfect and throwing in many wonderful details. I would absolutely recommend the Happy Tart - she made us VERY happy and we're proud that she was an integral part of our happy day! Thank you!!

Everything a wedding cake should be: beautiful AND delicious! From cake tasting to cake cutting, the entire wedding cake process was delightful, and Emma helped us come up with a design that was elegant and fun! Our guests were VERY shocked that the cake was gluten-free, as it was so decadent and we had many people ask us for the bakery's contact information. Also, it kept FOREVER! My new husband and I were eating leftover cake for a straight week!

The Happy Tart has been our go-to bakery for all things fabulous!!! And it happens to be a gluten free bakery! The Happy Tart made the two wedding cakes for my daughter, Claire and her husband, Jason's wedding cake. Both were Gorgeous!!!!! and Absolutely Delicious! We are so grateful to have such a fine bakery available to us. The Happy Tart also provided the pastries, rolls and quiche for our daughter's wedding brunch cruise aboard the Cherry Blossom Riverboat in Old Town Alexandria on April 13, Sunday. Again, the pastries and quiche were spectacular!!!!! Gluten free (lucky for us) or not, the Happy Tart is the very best bakery around! Many many thanks!

Emma was amazing throughout the entire process. I wanted to use cupcakes from another vendor but have a Happy Tart cake as my main wedding cake. She rented a cupcake stand and had one of her bakers set everything up. The cake was beautiful and tasted delicious! As someone with celiac disease I am so grateful to have The Happy Tart Bakery nearby. The owner Emma was helpful in coming up with creative design ideas for my gluten free wedding cake. Happy Tart was an AMAZING find! :) I got married to my now husband back in October. I was so delighted to find out that Happy Tart could make Gluten Free Wedding Cakes - my husband and I are both gluten intolerant, so it was very important to us to find someone who could make an excellent tasting, gluten-free wedding cake. Emma immediately told us she had made several, then had us in to do a tasting of 5 different options for cakes one Sunday afternoon. These included vanilla/lemon, chocolate/strawberry, dark chocolate/raspberry, apple cinnamon, etc. They were all delicious and we settled on 3 (she did each of our 3 layers a different flavor). She worked with us to pick out the decor on the cake (again pulling up about 30+ different options on her iPad from prior wedding cakes she had done), and hand delivered it to the reception site on the day of the wedding, and personally set it up for us. We couldn't be happier, and also thought the Happy Tart pricing for the cake was very reasonable - no "extra charges" because it was gluten free - as the entire bakery is gluten free.. The cake was so yummy that all the guests loved it, and we actually ended up eating the whole thing!! (didn't even save the top layer for a year later - we decided we'd go back a year later and just buy another small cake of the top layer)

The cake and macarons for our wedding were amazing! We are not gluten free and were honestly a little skeptical of how things would taste, because we are not familiar with gluten free products. I knew after our tasting that we did not need to look any further. Emma was extremely nice and helpful in explaining our options and combinations. We loved both the almond cake and chocolate cake and she made a perfect mix of both. She also worked with us to make sure she knew the type of decorations we envisioned (it looked just like we imagined). On the tasting day we also sampled the macarons, which were delicious. We ordered several hundred and they were so perfectly fresh and beautiful next to our cake. Our guests are still talking about both the cake and the macarons. Friends who have been to Paris, agree with me that the macarons taste like a little piece of Paris. I would highly recommend this bakery.

I was BLOWN AWAY by the Happy Tart. For an INCREDIBLY REASONABLE PRICE (too reasonable...) I got an amazing array of cupcakes all decorated for different princesses. They were almond with rose buttercream, chocolate, vanilla, pumpkin spice, and apple spice. The cake was.... well... I was emotional anyway, but I cried just seeing it. It was trussed up like the entrance to the Secret Garden. EVERYTHING was delicious... and everyone could eat it, because a lot of my cousins have trouble with gluten so it was gluten free.

Guess who knew it was gluten free? Me because I ordered it, and the people who couldn't normally have cake... the taste was RIDICULOUS. I was too excited to eat anything except my cupcake that was saved for me.

This is the most wonderful, magical place... because even more important than the cake, the bakers (and Emma, especially) worked tirelessly to make my vision come true beyond my wildest dreams.

The cake was wonderful! I have a gluten intolerance so I had to have a gluten free cake. When I told my guests, some of them were nervous that the cake wouldn't taste good. I reassured them that everything that bakery makes is amazing. One of my friends said "you were right, I feel like there's a party in my mouth!". Not only that, but the cake was absolutely adorable. I went right with my theme, it was so much fun to plan with Emma and it was perfect. Thanks so much Happy Tart! Everyone raved about the cake.

Working with Emma at the Happy Tart was a delight, and we couldn't be happier with the cake we had at our wedding! The best part of the experience was the one-on-one attention Emma gave us during the cake tasting. The samples were delicious, and it was so hard to choose... but we finally picked three flavors (a different one for each tier) and then worked with Emma to design a cake that perfectly suited the theme of our wedding. The cake was beautiful, it was delivered on time, and it perfectly matched what we had envisioned and discussed with Emma. We were so happy with this bakery and its services that we ordered our wedding cake here even though we had no dietary necessity for a gluten-free cake. And the cake was so delicious that no one ever guessed it was gluten free!

What an extraordinary cake! We are foodies. Simply put, we needed an exceptional cake. The problem was, we needed a gluten free cake but one that didn't taste like it was gluten free. We sat down with Emma at Happy Tart and tasted tons of cake, and immediately selected our three flavors. What perfect pairings, and oh how moist. The price was completely reasonable, and the luxury of trusting our baker was priceless. We had eaten so many products from the Happy Tart, we knew the cake would be great. And was it! It showed up exactly the way we wanted it to look, on time, and with a smile. None of our guests (except the GF ones) had any idea, but they all raved at how moist and delicious it was. We cannot say enough, what a wonderful experience it was to work with Emma, and how magnificent the cake was. It made the cover of our wedding album.

I can not express in words how AMAZING it was to work with Happy Tart. Emma was so sweet and accommodating. She helped me make my dream wedding cake/cupcake ideas come to life! The cupcakes and cake were SO delicious and totally Gluten Free to help accommodate my Celiac. The guests had no idea it was GF which was what I wanted :) The Happy Tart is my all time favorite bakery and I suggest that ALL brides gluten free or not, go here for cakes/cupcakes for their weddings. You will not find the taste/atmosphere/customer service/prices anywhere else!!

Emma from The Happy Tart was very kind and competent. Over the phone I had mentioned to her that I didn't want a very dense wedding cake (like so many others) and when we set up the tasting, the cake was light and fluffy, and was just as great on the wedding day. I had also mentioned to her that I had planned to bake my own cake and could not return my cake plates and columns so she took the cost of that out of the total and just used my stuff.

We ran into a bit of a stumble when I ordered a Lenox China cake topper that happened to be twice the size I was expecting it to be upon arriving at my doorstep a week before the wedding. Emma redesigned the cake to fit the topper beautifully and everyone loved the topper AND the cake! It arrived on time and looked just like what I was expected :-)

The very special "Grooms Cake" provided by the Happy Tart was PERFECT!!!! Emma created a cake in the shape of my husbands 1949 Red Jeepster with our English Bull dogs in top hat and veil in the car. It was a the talk of the weeding everyone loved it. The cost was very affordable for an amazing gluten free cake that tasted as good as the wedding cake if not better.
