The scenery at this venue sells itself and there is an incredibly talented staff to back it up. Lizz Davis is wonderful to work with and everything was executed flawlessly (or even if it wasn't the groom and I couldn't tell). The chef at Ventana Grill (next door to the Shore Cliff) is outstanding and all of the wait staff was extremely attentive and accommodating. Lizz was more than available and answered a giant stream of questions that I sent her way the two weeks leading up to the big day and she had prompt responses to everything (even the mundane questions)! A great venue and staff that helped make our day absolutely perfect! -

Shore Cliff is a beautiful location for a wedding. The wedding consultant was great. We don't live in Pismo so she was very helpful in giving us a list of venders to use in the area. The price included the wedding site as well as the reception in the restaurant on site. It included the centerpieces and the arch with flowers around it. -

We had our wedding here on the cliff. It was beautiful and everything we had imagined and more! This venue creates a perfect view and just the right amount of "wave crashing" sound as you're saying 'I do'. 'Perfect' is an understatement :) -

The location is so breathtaking. It is pricey but so worth it. It made it so nice to have the ceremony and reception all in one place especially for out of town guests. The staff was great. The only thing that I did think could use some help were the rooms. They are not anything special. They are just basic rooms. I was kinda hoping that maybe we got some special things like champagne or strawberries etc as our little gift from the hotel or even just something special in the decor etc. The view is great but otherwise just plain room. I have stayed in regular hotels and they were more upscaled in decor etc. Again, you are really paying for the location and view but worth it! -

Initually, we were directed to contact the director of sales, Karen, regarding starting the booking process for the ceremony site and reception hall. When talking to Karen on the phone, she acted like we were a waste of her time and was pretty short with us (we had to talk to her a few times). She acted like we were not supposed to be contacting her in regards to our wedding, but she was the name of the contact person on the referral packet that we were given. That was really annoying.
When we were directed to the person we were supposed to be contacting, Mariah, she was extremely helpful and very cooperative about all the special requirements that we needed regarding the menu (i.e. vegetarian and diabetic) and well as let us sample all the wines that we wanted for the reception. Mariah was easy to contact and spent a lot of time with use to make our ceremony and reception perfect.
The ceremony site was very beautiful and I would definitely recommend that site to anyone looking for a romantic venue for their wedding. The reception site was very beautiful, but there were many unmentioned expenses to get it that way. The location of the reception room is breath taking (i.e. overlooks the ocean) but the ceiling and chairs for the room are an unflattering brown color. You need to hire a cover up company to decorate the ceiling and chairs, so they can match with the tablecloths that are supplied (i.e. an additional 1500 dollars). The tablecloths are a standard square tablecloth, put over round tables, so if it bothers you that the table cloths are not even, you will need to hire a cover up company for that as well.
The food that they serve at the reception(you cannot hire an outside catering company) was extremely good. So we did not have any complains about that. They were really accommodating in our food requests and restrictions, so that was great!

It's a hard one to review because of the changes that are currently going on at the venue. They did a good job making it as smooth as possible. The location is beautiful and the cost exceeded our expectations. The only thing is if you are looking for a more involved wedding coordinator - I would not recommend this location. However, you could get a wedding planner with the money you save on going somewhere more expensive. It was beautiful and I wouldn't have changed anything!!! The food was fabulous! -

We used the gazebo at the Shore Cliff for our wedding. Beautiful gazebo overlooking a cliff with gorgeous panoramic views. You definitely pay for the view. We loved everything about the location. The rental of the area is managed by the Ventana Grill, located adjacent to the property. The coordinators are nice but extremely rigid with very little flexibility...which was a major turn off for us and unfortunately, they are the only reason why we didn't rate this as 5 stars. If it wasn't for them and their management style, this is the perfect place for your special day. -

I was planning my wedding at the Shore Cliff because of the beauty of the ceremony setting. There were many snags along the way, such as phone calls not returned, or not being able to get someone to answer the phone for questions or concerns by Lizz, which just led to stress. My reception was to be held in the Sunset Room, but at the last minute was told I couldn't have the music too loud because it would interfere with the restaurant music (which was divided by a room divider). Music at a wedding reception is MAJOR, so needless to say, I was really worried about how that would work out. BUT, when the day came closer, they transferred me to MARY, and she made everything work out GREAT! She made it wonderful. So, if I could have given scores just on MARY, she would have received a 5.0! The Ventana Grill's food and service was terrific, and the hotel accommodated me with a room to dress in, even though I wasn't staying there. The only thing that flawed the day was a lost scarf that had been left in the lobby of the hotel (part of the the wedding party's dress), and the wedding cake was cut and served by the restaurant, except one whole layer of the cake was not even put out on the cake table. I wonder where it went? We only received the top. -

Our wedding turned out better then I could have ever imagined, but the hotel and their staff was another issue. First let me start by saying we did the package through them so our reception was held at Ventana Grill, which was wonderful! The food was great, their coordinator Lizz was very helpful. I also had an issue with them switching coordinators on me half way through the process. We started with Mariah and when the restaurant sold we were contacted by Lizz to inform us of the change. She jumped right in and tried to keep up the best she could. We did have to move our rehearsal time up because somehow they had scheduled a wedding during our already scheduled rehearsal but really no big deal. Other then that Lizz did a great job and kept everything moving very smoothly, she always answered emails and phone calls in a prompt manner.
Now as for the hotel....First let me say it is a beautiful hotel and I grew up staying here. Our wedding party reserved all 6 suites they have as well as several other rooms at the hotel for the weekend of the wedding. On the Friday before the wedding after the rehearsal dinner many of the family and friends that were in early for the wedding got together to celebrate some birthdays and the wedding. I wont go into a lot of detail but the hotel felt that our party was being too loud, asked us to disperse we did, security came back a couple of times, complained of the noise level...even when most of the people had left and there were only members of that room left in it. The end result was that that room was put on "probation" and any issues from our party the next night were watched closely, and they even brought in extra "security" for the next night (Which turned out to not be needed...surprise surprise ha!). In all we were very disappointed with the way the situation was handled.
In the end I was very happy with how my wedding turned out and I wouldn't change a thing..except maybe that last part =) -

There are pluses and minuses to this site. Pluses - food was very good, site is GORGEOUS (you really can't find better, in my opinion), and they are linked up with many good vendors. Minuses - the staff is not as accomodating as they could be (not to say they are unfriendly or unprofessional, but they did not go above or beyond, so to speak) and the hotel itself is only mediocre for guests. Also, I guess the whole experience for me was tainted by the fact one of my close friends got robbed at gunpoint while staying at this hotel. Do not take this to mean it is a bad place or shady in ANY WAY (it had never happened before and the police were very shocked)... but the staff at the hotel was not as accomodating as they could have been after such a traumatic incident. -

Let me start by saying I got married here and had my reception and everything went fantastic. We couldn't have asked for better.
Now on the other hand the hotel security and management was ridiculous.
If you are going to get married here I would highly recommend you invite your guests to stay somewhere else. The Ventana Grill where we had our reception was amazing. The food, the staff, the area downstairs where the reception was held. Everything was great and Mary who is one of the wedding coordinators was awesome. She was there for me when I had a question or concern and made sure everything went smoothly the day before and the day of. I have absolutely no complaints about the Ventana Bar and Grill.
As our reception was nearing an end (mind you we just spent a LOT of money for our wedding at this hotel and had just about 130 guests occupying their hotel) some of the guests including my husband and I wanted to hang out for a few minutes at our room. The reception had not even been over for 5 minutes and we had security running over screaming at us to be quiet. Not so bad we quieted down but only to have him come back twice more with management, and the police on the phone telling us if we weren't quiet they were going to have the police come and take it from there. I am outraged at the fact that no one in the surrounding rooms could hear us but for some reason they had such a big issue. I would NOT recommend anyone to have their guests stay here during a wedding, But I will recommend you to get married here. The hotel is beautiful, clean, and MOST of the front desk staff is nice and warm. -

My husband and i fell in love with this place. It has an amazing view from both the ceremony and reception sites, and it completely fit our budget. Only thing is, you definately get what you pay for. The food wasnt the best, and they misled us on the alcohol costs.
The coordinator was horrible. She didnt have the aisle runner put out. Which is something they dont offer in thier package but that i had bought and gave to her to have set up. She had our wedding times off, and said our ceremony didnt start until 5:30 when we had scheduled it for 5. And then as the wedding party is walking down the aisle, she forgets to send the ring bearer without the rings! and didnt straighten out my train as she had said she would (which was something my mother was in the process of doing before she promised she would handle it).
I hate to look at all of the pictures of me walking down the aisle because my 4 foot long train is all rolled in on itself in the back. My photographer was the one who ended up fixing it once i reached the end of the aisle.
I would definately recomend if you are booking this place, to hire your own planner/coordinator at least for the day of your wedding, just to make sure everything goes as you have planned it. -

We booked with the Pelican Point restaurant in Oct 2008 for our Nov 2009 wedding. Mariah was our wedding coordinator and she was AMAZING. She paid attention to EVERY detail and could not have been better! 3 months before our wedding the Pelican point was sold to Ventana Grill. We were not notified of this until my mother, who was visiting the beach for the weekend, stopped by and noticed the restaurant was CLOSED (where our rehearsal dinner and send off breakfast were going to be held) She was told then that our location was under new management. But they "were going to call and tell us" riiiiiiiight..... well 3 weeks before our wedding they fired all of our amazing staff. My WONDERFUL wedding planner Mariah was gone. GONE!?!?!?!?! She knew everything about what was going on and had everything ready to go! Now i was stuck with this horrible, rude, know nothing "wedding planner" Liz. If we had met her to begin with we would have never booked. Wedding planning should not involve as many tears as it did. She is lazy and seemed like she had never done this before. Leading up to the wedding she made promises that she never kept. She never called me back, never had answers and the ONLY time i saw her the day of was right before I was to walk down the aisle. She was supposed to meet us in the lobby after we took our pictures but never showed so the Best Man had to get the wedding party info and let our DJ know we were ready for our entrance. She didn't have the right color table linens on our tables and some were DIRTY! She didn't have the centerpieces that were included in my package (they went to Michael's that day to buy some after my mother and SIL asked her time after time about it) Thank goodness my amazing sister in law took charge and got things done. So, if you book here, know that she will not follow through on ANYTHING and she will be NO HELP to you the day of or leading up other than to collect your money. You will need to hire an outside wedding coordinator. They won't tell you this, but you can rent white chair covers from them for a MUCH cheaper price, about 2.50/chair. normally they are 6+.
My advice to the Ventana Grill is REHIRE MARIAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now, the good....
The LOCATION of this venue is perfect. Our ceremony was beautiful and everyone loved the ocean front reception. You won't need much decorating the view is amazing. The food was very good and the waiters were very friendly. The suites are very spacious although the master bed is quite small. Overall, my day was perfect despite the Ventana Grill. Unfortunately to get the reception overlooking the ocean this is just about the only option, and they know it. -
