    Amazing wedding reception!

We hoped to host an intimate wedding reception (cocktail hour and dinner without dancing) and feel so lucky to have found the Ashby Inn. We wanted to make sure that the food was a highlight of our celebration, so we started off by searching for some of northern Virginia's top restaurants. We then reached out to the Ashby Inn after seeing their top marks to begin a conversation and knew that by the quick response and service we received, we would be in good hands!

We ended up hosting 35 of our closest friends and family (there was room for up to 40) for our reception on a Friday night. We arrived around 3:00 p.m. (after a chapel ceremony earlier in the day) and were immediately able to start taking photographs on the property, which meant that we would be available to actually enjoy our cocktail hour! The team was hard at work preparing the venue for us and when we finally walked over to the tables under the patio, we were so excited to see how things turned out. We had four long tables with beautiful flowers (brought in from a northern Va. florist) laid out on them - they were simple and gorgeous.

In terms of food and wine, we had five different, delicious hors d'oeuvres during out cocktail hour. We then opted for a five-course tasting menu for dinner. Each course was delicious, though our favorite was the fifth - dessert! When we visited the Ashby for a tasting a few months before the wedding, the desserts were our favorite course so we opted for two choices (we gave one of each to each couple) instead of cake. Our guests could not stop talking about the food!

We also had a per consumption bar and requested local wines, as we enjoy visiting Virginia vineyards. All of the reds/whites/roses were delicious, and the table service of red/white throughout dinner kept our guests happy. Something worth noting: there is a perfect location outside to host a string trio throughout the cocktail hour/dinner, and if you are considering hiring one, I highly recommend it! Further, when hosting a private event, renting the guest rooms is a requirement - but it was such a blessing to have many of our guests spend the night with us. As such, we opted to have a bonfire after dinner and the Ashby Inn set it up (with platters of s'mores!) and ready to go once dinner concluded. We had a blast hanging out for a few more hours, and enjoyed being able to return to our rooms when we were ready to call it a night. Then, each guest had breakfast the next morning and it was also so delicious! We certainly were well fed.

The Ashby Inn even packaged some of their jam for us to use as wedding favors.

And, the grounds are just stunning! I was so worried that forecasted storms would keep us from taking photographs outside, but the rain ended up making everything a little more vibrant. It was a beautiful setting for a beautiful day!

Lastly, the event coordinator, Rory, was outstanding throughout the entire planning process and the day of the event. He responded quickly and thoroughly to all of my questions leading up to the wedding, and was super helpful on the day of as we got the final details squared away. When planning the wedding, we were hopeful things would turn out as we envisioned. The Ashby Inn helped it turn out even better! We cannot recommend them highly enough if you are looking to host an intimate wedding reception.

I wouldn't have wanted my wedding at any other place. The staff all gave more than 110% to make our day as special as it could have possibly been. They were very accommodating for all of our crazy needs too, even letting us set up the day before the wedding. The Innkeeper/Wedding Planner, Liz, was amazing. She was always on top of everything before we knew we even needed it. The food was amazing, and there was something that everyone liked. On top of the amazing services that we received at this venue, a situation was drawn to my attention after the wedding, where the staff went above and beyond, and I would just like to give credit. Instead of having a guestbook, we decided to have a wooden bench (which my father made), and have everyone sign it. Unfortunately at some point, one of the younger children got into the sharpies (yea you know where this is going) and scribbled almost half of the bench bright RED. One of the staff members observed this, and immediately began cleaning off the sharpie. If this staff member (who I would personally like to thank from the bottom of my heart) did not immediately start cleaning the bench, it would have been ruined, and we would not have had such a special keepsake from our wedding. However, the staff managed to remove most of the sharpie and the bench was saved, including all of the signatures and well wishes. This staff member did not have to go out of their way and do this, as honestly most of us would not have, but saw the opportunity to give a little extra. Words cannot describe how thankful I am for this staff person, and how proud I am of the Ashby for employing such amazing individuals.

We had our rehearsal dinner here, and it was the best food we’ve ever had. They created a custom 5 course menu for us and selected wine to go with it. Everything was not only delicious, but the visual presentation of each course felt like a work of art. The portions were the perfect size for the amount of food that was planned, and the service was great. The head waiter was very knowledgeable about each dish to the point that it felt like the waiter had cooked each dish himself, and working with Neil beforehand was very easy. We gave Neil a couple of vague guidelines and asked that the chef create dishes he felt were best for the seasonal ingredients available that time of year. We will definitely be going back to eat there again, and we cannot recommend them enough!

I knew I wanted to get married at the Ashby Inn the first time I went there for dinner. The Inn and the property itself is breathtakingly beautiful and romantic. The perfect place to have an outdoor wedding. It is located right in the heart of Virgina's wine country and at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The staff at the Inn, especially Star and Neal, were always there to help and are genuinely wonderful people. Also, The food is 5 star and is well known in the DC area. My guests couldn't say more about how wonderful the food was and how the Inn was the perfect place for the wedding! Everyone and everything at the Inn made my special day perfect. Thank You!

There are just a couple of good things I can say about having my wedding at The Ashby Inn. The food is AMAZING and the scenery is idyllic. The day of my wedding at The Ashby was filled with mistakes, oversights, and a tremendous lack of communication between staff members. To note, after expressing numerous times in person and via email that one of my guests has a severe nut allergy, nuts were included in more than one dish on our menu that was presented to us as we sat for dinner. Thankfully, we caught this error before anything was served and the kitchen had to be cleaned, and new food prepared. As a farm-to-table establishment, we expected some last minute menu changes, but the menu offered to us for dinner only included two dishes (from all 3 courses) from which we previously decided. There were a plethora of "little things" that did not go as planned, which led to multiple members of my guest list offering solutions to help move things along smoothly. The payment process was riddled with frustration and disappointment while trying to convey the severity of the lack of communication between staff members and the impact it had on my wedding day. To make matters worse, one particular employee took it upon herself to charge my card as to what "she felt fair for all parties involved" (it did include a discount) without the promised discussion and my written request (because I was out of the country on my honeymoon) to not charge the card until we could speak. Thankfully, after a few emails to multiple members of the Inn's staff, I was issued a refund for the difference of what my receipt upon checkout read, versus the amount this particular employee charged my card.

I think dining at The Ashby Inn is a must; I would, however, proceed with caution if I were planning an event at this location.

Good points: The food truly is amazing. The sunrise from the Fan room is absolutely phenomenal.

Stuart, the Sommelier, is knowledgeable and helpful.
