I worked with Susan for my wedding hair and makeup and could not be happier with the results. I wanted someone with experience doing east Asian hair and makeup as well as a team with experience with different hair textures and skin tones for my diverse wedding party - Susan and her team hit the mark perfectly. Me and my bridesmaids, groomswomen, and moms loved the results and felt comfortable and confident. The makeup also stayed on all night despite all the crying!! -

This review is long overdue as my wedding was in April 2024. But I'm so glad to have chosen Susan for my wedding hair & makeup artist, and I highly recommend her if you're looking for top tier hair and/or makeup services for your special day!
When I first inquired with Susan, I was so excited to hear back from her that she was available for my wedding day. Throughout the whole wedding planning process, Susan was very professional and responsive in a timely manner in our interactions. Susan was extremely detail-oriented, organized, and well prepared, and it made me feel that much less anxious for the getting ready part of my wedding day.
During the wedding makeup trial, Susan listened to my concerns & would make recommendations based on which products/colors would suit me best given the look I wanted to go for. And on my wedding day, Susan and her team did an amazing job with my mom's, bridesmaids', and my makeup & hair. I couldn't have asked for a better HMU artist for my big day! Susan did an absolutely phenomenal job on my wedding hair and makeup. My hair stayed in place for 12+ hours (with extensions) and my makeup was also perfect. From start to finish, Susan was attentive, communicative, and very detailed. She was very open to any feedback I had about hair and makeup styles and really listened to my thoughts. Susan was absolutely amazing! I wanted to look like an elevated version of myself and she did exactly that. I am not great with hair and makeup and she gave me great guidance and ideas when making my decisions and I was blown away even at the trial and then of course at the wedding. She did my hair and makeup, my sister and my 2 sister in laws. She did the most FANTASTIC pony for my sister, who is usually not comfortable with an updo and just absolutely killed it! Everyone received such amazing compliments the whole night and she made me feel absolutely beautiful and created such a confidence in me.

Susan is very talented, detailed and goes above and beyond to make sure you have the perfect hair and makeup for your special day! She also did my hair & makeup for my engagement session. She is extremely professional and made a detailed timeline for me, the moms, grandmothers and bridesmaids to ensure we all got finished in time without having to rush. My mom has really short hair but wanted an updo, Susan did an amazingggggg job on her hair & makeup considering she didn't have a trial session like I did. Also do take the time to answer the trial questionnaire and be open with Susan about what your preferences are. She gives you tips beforehand on how to take care of your skin, if you want to do hair extensions, etc. I felt so glamorous on my wedding day thanks to Susan! -

We originally hired Susan for a larger wedding, which included service for myself, bridesmaids, and my mom. She sketched out the timeline and we paid the deposit. However since then, we scrapped that wedding and ended up hosting a much smaller wedding that was just myself and my mom. Susan did not bat an eye when we told her about the new plans, which included extended travel for her and her family. She worked with us to make sure we were comfortable with the new plans and even tried making up the price difference through other creative ideas. The night before the wedding even included a power outage (sorry!) that affected housing accommodations and Susan was amazing through it all.
We are very grateful for Susan's services on my wedding day. My mom and I are not makeup wearers and she made us feel comfortable (and beautiful) in a full face of makeup. Her services are definitely worth every penny. Thank you, Susan! -

Susan came highly recommended by multiple friends and she did not disappoint. She is a very professional and detail oriented person. She provides plenty of valuable information upfront and collects information from you, the bride, to help her best understand your expectations and your desired look. She is super friendly and very easy to get along with! I had a tight schedule and with all the prep work that went in beforehand, the actual wedding day went by very smoothly and right on schedule. I really appreciated when after she did my sister's hair, she honestly told me privately that maybe we can redo my sister's hair to better suit her face shape. It's this kind of honesty that I want from a professional hair and makeup artist, because she knows best!!! My sister was too timid to ask for it to be redone, but Susan was wonderful and able to redo her hair while still completing all of our bridesmaids' looks on schedule.
I did my research and Susan's prices were a little out of my original budget, but it is SO important to look and feel beautiful on your wedding day and in all of your photos. I can't stress enough that she is worth it!!!! -

Susan is an absolute professional. From our introductory call and onward, she ensured she had every last detail covered - her questionnaire was so thorough, it covered facets of makeup and skincare that I had never even thought about! For those of us who aren't as knowledgeable about skincare routines, etc., she provides detailed instructions to ensure your skin is picture-perfect for your special day!
Beyond her meticulousness, she goes above and beyond to capture your exact vision for your day-of look, even to the extent that she tries out two very different looks during your trial.
With Susan, you are guaranteed to look your absolute best. I would recommend her to any bride-to-be! -

Susan was wonderful from start to finish! She genuinely cares about her brides and her skill and expertise show through her amazing work! She listens and works with you to understand your vision for your big day, especially at the makeup trial. She'll advise skincare needs (and make suggestions to help prep your skin before the big day) and utilizes top-of-line and high quality skincare and makeup products.
She arrived early on my wedding day and did a beautiful job on both my mother and I. I received many compliments on my wedding makeup. She is very kind and professional, and any bride who hires her will feel comfortable and at ease with her.
Future brides - she books up super fast, so book her early on. Also, be detailed in your requests and vision, as well as be open to her suggestions/advice. My skin was in great shape on my wedding day after tweaking my skincare regime with product recommendations from Susan.
Susan is an expert and truly cares about not only making you look beautiful, but also feel beautiful. With her, you will know you are absolutely in good hands.

Susan has been organized, accommodating and all round AMAZING for my wedding. Even though I booked her a year out, she kept in touch the entire way. I was SHOOK at my trial when she showed me her techniques to enhance my face shape and features. She gave me plenty of options and always made sure I was comfortable. She made my wedding day a breeze and my makeup lasted 8+ hours on a warm June outdoor wedding (and LOTS of dancing). She can nail any hair style.. my mother has very short hair but Susan gave her a beautiful up do, my sister got vintage waves and I had a very beachy-boho down style. Her colleague, Esther, nailed all my bridesmaids makeup. The cherry on top is that they were just a pleasure to hang out and relax with while the craziness of vendors and family were surrounding us. Thank you to Susan and Esther for making us all feel like a million bucks! -

I honestly don’t even know how to put into words how amazing Susan is! From the hair and makeup trial, to finding other ladies to do hair and makeup for my “not bridesmaids” bridesmaids, to the final wedding day look - she knocked it out of the park! I am extremely shy and not the most overly confident person, but I knew she had made me look good just looking in the mirror on the morning of my wedding, and I of course felt AMAZING. And then when I saw our photographers photos I almost died! Susan made me look like everything I’d ever hoped and SO much more! I had multiple people come up and tell me I looked like Audrey Hepburn, which was the compliment of a lifetime! I even had one woman tell me that I was the most beautiful bride she had ever seen... including her own daughter! For someone as modest and shy as I am, feeling confident and beautiful on my wedding day was the best gift, and it was all because of Susan!
And the fact that all of my girls felt amazing and looked GORGEOUS just made the day that much better since my main goal was to have everyone feel loved... and Susan delivered!

Spring Sent on 10/01/2018If you are ever lucky enough to have the opportunity to work with Susan, book her ASAP!!! She is incredibly talented and skilled, and booking her was well worth every penny. Once I got engaged, I knew I wanted to work with her since I had seen her work and heard glowing reviews from many of my friends who had also worked with her in the past! During my trial and the day of my wedding, she made me feel comfortable, relaxed and beautiful! I don't have a lot of experience with makeup/hair, and it was my first time ever having both done by someone else, so I was pretty nervous and didn't know how to articulate what I wanted or what would look good with my skin tone, eye shape, etc. She was extremely patient and helpful as she guided me through the process during the trial, and made sure I was happy at each step. I also had some breakouts in the weeks leading up to the wedding, and she gave great recommendations for skincare products that helped calm my skin a lot! She also did an amazing job with my bridesmaids, and everyone looked SO beautiful, with makeup that suited them perfectly (I had a mix of caucasian and asian bridesmaids). We got so many compliments from family and friends! It was also extremely hot the day of our wedding (the end of June), and we had an outdoor first look, portraits, and ceremony, and the makeup held up perfectly through the end of the night through tears and sweat :) Susan is a gem, and her professionalism, enthusiasm, thoughtfulness and kindness made all the difference during the craziness of the wedding day. She really goes above and beyond to make the experience fun and enjoyable, and available to answer any question or concern in a timely manner. For an anxious bride like me, she was a saving grace- I had zero qualms throughout the entire process from start to finish. Susan is the absolute best- do not hesitate!! I am beyond grateful that I got the chance to work with her!! -

Ella Sent on 08/20/2018Let me just say, if you are thinking of hiring Susan Lim, you are making the best decision for your makeup/hair for the day of your wedding! Susan was actually the first vendor I contracted when starting my wedding process (that was a year and a half ago). I had seen her work many friends and each time, they looked absolutely stunning! You can tell at first glance that her style compliments any bride’s facial features and the look they are going for, whether that be dramatic or romantic, so I definitely knew I wanted her for my wedding. When I booked her for myself, she was a delight to talk with on the phone and made the whole booking seamless, she walked me through her process and never made me feel pressured. At the trial, She made me feel so comfortable and listened to every concern and request I had about my look. She made me feel like I was her friend and not just her client and when you are getting ready for such a huge day in your life, that support and atmosphere is so important.
On the day of, Susan and her team arrived right on time (which was at 6:30 A.M. and they had traveled to get there) and they were immediately ready to work. I had 8 ladies, including myself, needing to be ready by 2 P.M. which was a lot to pack into one morning, but they weren’t phased at all. I cannot say enough good things about Susan and her two team members. They worked diligently and with a very friendly attitude and every single one of ladies felt confident and beautiful for the big day and we were ready right on time! As for me, I don’t think I have ever felt so gorgeous in my life as when I looked into the mirror right before first look and saw Susan’s work on my makeup and hair. Not only did Susan make me feel calm, relaxed and happy, she made me feel and look exactly how I had always envisioned I would for the most special day in my life. She truly is amazing, both in her professional skills and as a person, I would highly recommend her to any bride! -

She made the bride, 7 bridesmaids, and 2 mothers absolutely gorgeous! Each one of us was very happy with how their makeup looked, and Susan and her team took their time to listen to each of us about our skin and what we were hoping for. When my husband first saw me completely dressed and ready for the wedding, he started tearing up and said I have never looked more beautiful. Now that's an absolute miracle after 36 years of marriage!

Esther Sent on 02/28/2018Even before I was engaged, I knew I had to book Susan for my wedding. 3 of my good friends had booked her for their weddings and their makeup was truly flawless, it was an easy decision.
This was my first time getting my makeup done professionally so I was a bit apprehensive about how it would end up. I normally don't wear much makeup but I knew I wanted to have that "wow factor" for my wedding. Susan found the perfect mid point to a natural/smoky look. This is an art that she's perfected and I'm so happy to have had such a professional for my wedding. She made sure I was happy in the end and she wouldn't even give me her advice until she knew where I stood so that it wouldn't sway my decision =) I felt like the whole experience was tailored made for me. She remembered all the details and the concerns that I had; most specifically raccoon eyes and oily eye lids. Let me just say, my makeup stayed ON me the ENTIRE night. I highly recommend the airbrush she offers for an additional price, it's so worth it. She's thoughtful enough that she packs a small sample of the lip color so you can touch up your lips prior to walking down the aisle, make sure you give this to your MOH or bridesmaid that you can trust to remind you!
There's a reason why she has a perfect rating. So go ahead and treat yourself and know that you're in good hands. -

I have never had my makeup done professionally before, so when my wedding approached I was determined to do it on my own. After thinking it through a bit more (do I *really* think I could do my own hair? would it stress me out? wouldn't I need to buy more products?), I immediately went on Yelp to search for someone in the DC area I could trust to do it for me and take stress out of the day, which is where I found Susan.
From the start, Susan was detailed and thorough. She asked me a bunch of questions about what I was looking for and what my routine currently is, walked me through the process (even helped me with my wedding timeline), and left me feeling very secure knowing she was on the case and would be there on my wedding day. When I had a question, she replied. She made planning a wedding from a different country way less stressful.
I don't normally wear much makeup during the day - just some mascara and a little bit of brow gel, so I was concerned that the makeup would make me look like someone else. Susan listened and helped me achieve a look that looked both just like myself and also enhanced and played up my features. After trying out a few lipsticks, we even decided to move forward with a clear balm so we could go with my natural lip color.
Susan also helped me organize hair and makeup for the bridal party and some of the family members - no small feat to pull off! She booked a few colleagues to help (who were also very professional and wonderful people), and I felt so at ease the morning of the wedding while they were helping us get ready.
Susan is amazing - I enjoyed the trial with her (without which I totally would have chosen the wrong foundation!), as well as spending time with her in the bridal suite before the wedding. She made the morning of my wedding day really fantastic and took all of the stress out of getting ready.

My Sent on 07/29/2016A long overdue review for Susan. I found Susan through recommendation from my sister. I booked her for my November 2015 wedding. Makeup was my main concern because I don’t normally wear makeup except times when I really in need to cover up for a special occasion, which don’t usually look all that good. Susan was my lifesaver. She is so wonderful to work with from the beginning to end. She is very skilled, detail oriented, punctual, and very down to earth. The one thing I love the most about working with Susan is that she is honest. I mean not everyone is blessed to have good skin. For sure not me. She guided me through a good skin regiment during the trial and with her pointers, my makeup looked even more flawless on my special day than at the trial. Although her price is a tiny bit on a high range (I had a budget wedding), which included additional cost for showing up early, but overall it is reasonable and was totally worth it. I mean she even agreed a job at 6am. She made me and my bridal parties look flawless. She was punctual and patience when one of my bridesmaid arrived late to the hotel for her session. So, I was really thankful how accommodating Susan was for me and my wedding parties. Overall, I believe Susan was worth every penny! STOP searching and go book Susan Lim NOW for your wedding, company party, birthday or whatever occasion it may be. You will regret if you don’t book her because she is incredibility talented! -

From the beginning I knew finding a make-up artist I felt comfortable with was honestly one of the most important details. She was so professional throughout the entire process, from the very first email to the day of my wedding. She has a perfectionist's eye that is unmatched -- which you can tell from her work and they way she treats her clients. Our first initial point of contact was a telephone conversation in which she gave me more than enough information, that really calmed me down during my wedding planning process. Just that extra step was enough to make me trust her expertise and experience. She gave me all the things I should expect and let me ask my questions as well. My trial with her was also so great. She went above and beyond. One thing that I really like about her is that she is not afraid to tell you what looks good on you and what doesn't. Of course, like any professional she respected what I wanted and what I thought would look best. But as the trial went on, I realized that Susan's initial observations and recommendations was what I liked best after all. She still changed and modified as we went along and did way more than the previous make up artist that I tried went through for me. In the end, I was confident in the look I chose and got compliments throughout my entire wedding for my makeup. My sister-in-law, who Susan also worked on, got compliments from my mother-in-law who told her she looked better than her own wedding day! Susan becomes more than a vendor, she is a friend and a person who is genuinely vested in the outcome of your wedding. You might want to book well in advance though, she is very sought after. -

Emily Sent on 08/20/2015After a bad experience with makeup for my engagement shoot, I really needed a makeup artist that knows how to work with Asian features for my wedding. I'm so lucky to have found Susan; she really knows what she's doing! From her super-detailed makeup questionnaire before the makeup trial, to going out of her way to make me feel comfortable during the makeup trial, I was impressed with her professionalism and attention to detail. I'd had an early wedding, but Susan didn't complain about having to trek to the city at 6 in the morning. It was hot and humid on my wedding day and I cried like a baby, but my makeup stayed put. I loved how the makeup looked in the wedding pictures, if only I looked like that everyday! My mother was also very happy with the way her makeup turned out, and I'm really happy with how beautiful she looked in the pictures.
