Top Takeaway: Talia is a magician and genius, and they are the warm, patient, supportive person you want by your side as you kick off your wedding day.
Prep Process: Talia came to my home a few months before my wedding for my hair and makeup trial. I do not wear makeup ever and typically wash-and-go my hair, but as soon as I met them, I was immediately at ease. They are the warmest, gentlelest, most patient human and artist who highlighted and enhanced my best features with such ease and expertise. They took photos and videos of every variation we did to help guide us on the actual day.
We had 12 people who needed hair and makeup done on my wedding day, and Talia structured the prep docs such that we communicated everyone’s needs and preferences in advance. They also provided a schedule to make sure everyone was on the same page about when, where, and with whom they needed to be. It made for a seamless morning, where everyone self-regulated, and I wasn’t managing who was on deck for hair & makeup.
Investment and Value: Talia is not only an extremely talented artist, but they work with an extraordinary team – Erin and Stirling brought such warmth, artistry, and humor to our getting ready space. Through the entire morning with 12(!) women getting their hair and makeup done, the three of them set the tone for the day: boisterous, full of laughter and joy. You want the best team to kick off such a special day; Talia is the head of the best team.
Calm, Cool, Collected, Caring: On my actual wedding day, in my stress and desire to be ready as quickly as possible to adhere to our schedule, I struggled to articulate exactly how I wanted my hair. Talia made two updos that were beautiful but different than what I wanted; when I was ready to throw in the towel and just live with it because I didn’t want to be demanded and I was worried about time, Talia kept a cool head. We pulled up our videos from the trial and talked through the differences then and now. They encouraged me to express exactly what I hoped for; they patiently listened to me try to articulate what I wanted differently (even though I didn’t really have the words); and they figured out how to make the changes. The final result was completely perfect and exactly what I wanted.
Hire Them!: Very few people are willing to pause and adjust in the midst of stress, chaos, and a time crunch; Talia is such a consummate professional and exactly the kind of person you want in your corner on your wedding day to ensure you look and feel your best. My wife and I were recommended Talia at Simple + Sultry by our wedding planner, and their name also came up in several Reddit threads. As a queer couple, it was really important to us to prioritize queer (or queer friendly) vendors, and we could not have asked for a better experience. Talia is TALENTED and their prices couldn't be beat. We absolutely loved their portfolio and were happy to see a lot of glowing reviews. It's my pleasure to add onto those glowing reviews and recommend them to anyone in search of hair and makeup, irrespective of how you identify. They were communicative and easy to coordinate with. They were flexible with timing and accommodated all of our needs, and guided us through the process of figuring out what we wanted.
For our wedding day, they did hair and makeup with an associate for some of our wedding party, and everyone loved their looks. The makeup was flawless and very high quality - I cried at least 4 times during my wedding and I swear it did not BUDGE. Thank you, Talia, for making our hair and makeup visions come true!!! -

I don't normally wear makeup, but I wanted to feel extra confident and glam on my wedding day. Talia was the perfect fit for me. I was drawn to them because of their queer-friendly approach: I knew they would work well with a nontraditional bride. Talia helped me hone in on what I wanted during the trial and absolutely nailed the look on the day. I got so many compliments and I love how I look in the photos. Talia is a gem
I’m so glad I found her for my elopement. I didn’t do a trial and I’m no hair or make up expert, so I compiled example photos of looks that I liked and disliked, which Talia reviewed beforehand. When she arrived, she already knew what I was looking for and got right to it. I didn’t know what kind of lip color I wanted but one try and she mixed a color that I adored. I felt classically dolled up, and more importantly, I felt like myself when I looked in the mirror. I’ve already recommended Talia to friends getting married and will continue to do so. -

My hair is notoriously untamable amongst my friend group and somehow Talia tamed the beast. I’ve never felt more confident or beautiful. They guided me through the process of using extensions for the first time, easing every concern and helping me find the perfect type. On top of that, they did an incredible job with my mom’s hair too—we both felt amazing and looked our absolute best.

I have never in my life felt so beautiful as on my wedding day, and I cannot thank Talia enough for more than just their work -- they put up with my friends and family with continuous grace and even heroically styled flowers in my hair after the florist dropped the ball on making a hairpiece. In the end, I think my hair actually looked better than it would have -- so many of my favorite photos from the wedding are of the back of my head because my hair looked so, so, so pretty. My sister, mother-in-law, and sister-in-law, all, too, looked so stunning and perfect even after dancing and sweating all night.

Great wedding makeup!
Talia did a great job doing my “sultry” hair and makeup for my wedding, along with hair and makeup for some of my friends. They were prompt, listened to what I wanted, and were happy to try out different looks and change things around when I wasn’t sure about an aspect of my makeup. I would highly recommend working with Talia. I had a very small window for my bridal party and I to get ready and it was really hard to find a vendor who not only could look at my timeline and confidently agree they could make it happen, but that also didn't totally send me into sticker shock. Talia and her team were worth every penny. I didn't have a vision or really a lot of references and neither did my girls. We basically just said "make us pretty" and they asked the little questions here and there to make sure that we all felt stunning by the time they were done. On her way out Talia passed my husband and I taking some photos outside and she noticed a little piece had fallen out of place and she came over with an extra bobby pin and fixed it before leaving. It just showed me, personally, that she really cared about making my day perfect. Highly, highly recommend. -

Absolutely loved working with Talia and her Simple and Sultry team for my wedding! Talia is very easy to work with, she really gets a sense of your personality and what you are looking to achieve. I personally don't wear heavy makeup usually, so I wanted someone who would understand how to make me look my best while also still looking like myself, and then also be able to understand my guests different makeup needs. She was a makeup and hair magician, and super professional. The makeup and hair stayed on perfectly all night, and she even included a thoughtful little retouch kit for me to use but I barely needed to! Talia is a wonderful person and such a talented hair and makeup artist! I was confident from our first email interaction that they were the right choice when they sent an incredibly professional and thorough response that put me at ease. I had never had professional hair or makeup done before and don't wear much makeup in my regular life, and they were so responsive to my requests and questions. They did an amazing job at enhancing my look while making sure I still felt like myself.
Due to the pandemic, I had to postpone my wedding a few times. Talia was so flexible and understanding throughout my multiple postponements and changes of plan (including a second hair trial since I changed my mind about my hairstyle).
On the wedding day, Talia showed me the pictures and videos of the trials to see if I had any changes. Everything was perfect on the first try and didn't require any edits at all. My hairstyle was beautiful and stayed in place the entire night. I didn't have to think about my hair or makeup for the rest of the night, and when I got back from the after party 12+ hours later it still looked flawless.
Talia also brought two additional hair and makeup artists since I had five other people who needed hair and makeup services. They were both great and everyone in the wedding party looked amazing. I've heard that hair and makeup often takes longer than scheduled, but I believe we were not only on time but ahead of schedule, which gave everyone more time to relax before the event started.
Talia is such a professional and also such a lovely person. Their calming but fun presence set the perfect tone as we got ready during the morning of the event. LOVED working with Talia
Talia was so amazing to work with on my wedding day! I booked services for myself, my mother and mother-in-law, and 4 bridesmaids. I actually opted to forgo the trial because everything I saw in Talia's portfolio looked so good, I felt confident I would be happy. And I was not wrong! Everyone in the group was really happy with their hair and makeup. We had people with all different skin tones and there was a match for everyone. Talia and her assistant were both really patient with special requests and with matching colors people wanted for lips and eyes. I especially loved the flowers Talia added to my hair, and how the makeup lasted all night. I even got a little to-go bag with my specially mixed lip color for touch-ups throughout the night! Talia also is just a wonderful person to spend time with. They give you the vibe of a genuinely kind person and you feel safe in their hands. When I was feeling nervous, Talia made me feel calmer, and it was fun just chatting during all the services. I HIGHLY recommend!! -

Talia first and foremost, is someone I would love to hang out with outside of make up - and that is super important when you’re naked and someone is spraying you with tan before your wedding day! I had a lot of feelings as a COVID bride and Talia was such a gentle soul that allowed me to vent without adding kerosene to the fire - not an easy task when a bride is especially pissed off at someone LOL. I love make up and very familiar with tanning, so I knew Talia and I would have a fun time making me look like a bride. However my Mother and Mother in Law were the other two I wanted to treat to make up and hair and they were the ones I was worried about. Women with short hair in their 60’s aren’t looking to get a ton of crazy make up, which is where the simple part of Talia’s make up and hair was SO GOOD. My Mother in Law has pixie cut short hair, and Talia still made it look not only different, but GREAT! My Mother is a tough cookie and after everything was done, she didn’t say anything, but she smiled really big (Polish people understand we don’t really like compliments or smiling unless we really mean it). They both looked WONDERFUL and completely natural, but glowing. It’s easy to make a 30 year old bride look beautiful IMO but to also make others look and feel great without looking like a different human is so important and Talia delivered 10000%. My tan was perfect without any orange (once again, Polish, so very pale) yet I did not look I randomly am a different skin tone. SUPER important. I did a trial tan because I use self tanner but wanted it professionally done for the wedding, but I recommend it to any brides who are novices to the tan, it really REALLY helps make your jewelry and dress pop, and after a year in a shoebox apartment in NYC, I wanted to look like I saw sunlight before lol. Talia is amazing! I never wear make-up and rarely brush my hair, so I was nervous about having mine done for my elopement. #1- you MUST use Talia from Simple + Sultry, she will make you look like the most beautiful version of yourself for your wedding day!
From day 1 of contacting her, Talia answered all of my questions quickly and was so so nice! I have only had my hair and makeup done a few times professionally, so I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted. I told her I wanted to look like my best version of myself, and sent her a few pictures of what I would like for my hair. She came to my apartment and made me feel so relaxed, did her magic, and everything was perfect! She asked me important questions as she worked and made me look exactly as I wanted to.
Come my wedding day, her and her assistant did my hair and makeup as well as my mom's and sisters and we had such a blast chatting and relaxing with them while they made us beautiful! All my guests gushed over how stunning my hair was, and how flawless my makeup was. Even my now husband who's #1 request was that I look like myself absolutely loved my makeup.

I reached out to Talia as I was drawn to her hair styling. She provided a very thorough email and also asked for examples of styles I liked and did not like. That helped me feel at ease with the process and her understanding of what I would want. During the trial, we tried a few styles/iterations. Talia recorded all of the styles and took photos as well so I could review them afterwards. That was so great to be able to take some time to consider what would work best.
On the day of the wedding, she nailed the style in one go! The style was exactly what I wanted and it stayed up for at least 12 hours, without being uncomfortable. Throughout this process, she was great about safety with regards to COVID and I felt very comfortable working with her. She was an absolute dream to work with and fun to hang with during these sessions. -

Talia was incredible! I had a hair and makeup trial with her a few months before the wedding, and she was so responsive to my requests/suggestions (she's also so friendly and wonderful to talk to!). She did wedding hair and makeup for my sister and me, and we loved the results! Our makeup was beautiful but not too heavy, it looked great but we still looked like ourselves and it felt very natural (we went for airbrush makeup and I didn't feel like I was covered in layers of heavy foundation, and my skin looked amazing). My hair and makeup looked amazing throughout the day...our photos started at 10:30 a.m. and the reception after the wedding lasted until around 5 p.m. I felt great the whole time! Talia was such a joy to work with and I can't recommend her enough. -

Working with Talia was an amazing experience! I would absolutely recommend her for both bridal hair and makeup. She was so professional and kind as well as extremely skilled. My hair and makeup lasted throughout the whole day and night and my friends/family who had their hair done had the same experience. I have no words to describe how amazing Talia is! From the beginning she was extremely responsive and acomodating, answering all my (many) questions and making the whole process very smooth! The trial went great, we tried styles with my natural hair texture and blown out, the make-up was great too. She was very attentive and was able to translate everything I wanted!
She was also great in making the day's schedule, that included myself, my mother and 5 bridesmaids! In the end we were all ready ahead of the time!
Not only the results were amazing and exactly what I wanted, but also lasted perfectly all day/night My wedding was during the worst heat wave NYC had in years, even after taking photos in the sun for over an hour in the 107 degree heat, I did not need to re-touch a single thing before the ceremony! I was shocked!

Talia was fantastic. She immediately nailed the hairstyle I wanted and was patient when I was hesitant about my makeup. She truly just wanted me to feel comfortable and not like I had makeup shellacked on my face. I had a small wedding so I didn't have a wedding party, I was worried some make up artists wouldn't want to take the time on a Saturday for only two people (me and my mom) but that wasn't an issue with Talia at all. I definitely recommend Talia for bridal hair and make up, she is so skilled and I felt gorgeous and looked flawless on my wedding day. My updo and airbrush makeup lasted all day and night through the tears from the first look and the sweatiness of the dance floor. Talia is punctual, professional, and calm which is so important when it comes to timelines and nerves on a wedding day. She was so patient with my mother in law who had a bunch of questions and concerns and best of all Talia saved the day by taking the time to fix my own mother's make up (who stubbornly decided to do her own make up and used too light of a foundation). Talia has amazing skincare tips to get your skin bridal ready, which my sister much appreciated as she's an aesthetic physician who helped me get my skin clear and hydrated for my big day. Talia from Simple & Sultry was the second vendor I ever booked for the wedding. We ultimately used her for 4 bridesmaids’ makeup, 2 bridesmaids’ hair, and my own bridal hair. I found her in January 2019, having scoured high and low for someone who was able to convey a vision of gorgeous simplicity for my bridesmaids – all four girls, of Asian descent, wear very minimal makeup and I wanted someone who could simply enhance their features, and make them feel beautiful. We worked with Talia and her friend, and they used beautiful tones of taupe and gold to sparkle all four brown eyes, the eyeliner was expertly applied, and blush enhanced all four unique face shapes. My girls.. they gushed over the work all night. I had a trial with Talia back in February 6, 2019 and she was able to translate my vision: Camilla Belle, clean-glam. Because accessories and the dress had changed, Talia very kindly gifted me with a free second trial in July 2019 to test out new shapes and colors. She is extremely talented – with a steady hand, and calm heart, she can modify things in an instant. At the end, I decided not to use her for my own bridal makeup for the simple fact that: I used to be a makeup artist myself. Because my eyes are so heavily hooded and down-turned, I used makeup to change the way my features are perceived. Eyelashes are applied so it can lift the corners, my eyebrows are carved out to be sharp, and I enhance my heart-shaped face with very strategic blush. Talia honors and respects the face as it is presented on the wedding day – but I like to rearrange, a process which is a little trial-and-error.
In terms of process, Talia gave us a document system to fill out for each of the girls, what I envision for them, that since we all had jet-black hair, to forgo updos, and enhance the contrast with berry lips. The instructions were simple, but Talia was able to interpret them uniquely for each bridesmaid. One had a simple elegant twist, another had flowing pinned curls, and myself, since I had a star-shaped headband, I asked for a half-up/half-down look. I will never forget the first time we all took a group selfie and just took the time to admire each other. Talia expressed our hearts, and what we thought we SHOULD look like. As a makeup artist myself, that’s the ultimate talent. I will never have the words to thank Talia for her incredible kindness, selflessness, and skill. Our wedding was beautiful, thank you.

Booking Talia and Simple+Sultry for my wedding day was THE BEST DECISION! From the very start, Talia was communicative, caring, and so professional. For our trial, she worked with my very vague suggestions to create a beautiful look - better than I could have imagined. Following our trial, she made planning SO easy - she sent timelines, pre-planned schedules, and suggestions for how long we should plan for, how many artists we should use, and generally made things so incredibly easy on me. Talia’s team, Rie and Rebecca, for my wedding day, were INCREDIBLE. They somehow managed to do hair and makeup for ten people without batting an eye. They were a joy to spend the day with and fit right into our group. I was absolutely floored by how well they tailored their styles to the preferences of each girl, creating such varied but all stunning looks. Talia skillfully made tweaks to both my hair and makeup when I decided on small changes from our trial, and she asked for my input several times throughout the process to ensure I was thrilled with my look. My makeup, despite sweating SO MUCH while dancing, was still flawless over twelve hours later when I arrived home, and Talia styled my hair in such a way that even the windy day and hours of dancing barely made a dent. I would absolutely recommend Talia and her team to anyone, especially if they want to look like the most beautiful version of themselves - but still look like themselves. My wedding was in July in Brooklyn and let me tell you it was very hot and humid. My hair and makeup held up the whole day. My pretty diverse group of bridesmaids and my mother all looked so beautiful. Talia was very patient with our lack of vision and totally knew what to do when all I could give her for inspiration was pretty and natural. When I had a mini hair melt down a few weeks before the wedding she came to the rescue to ease my mind and even did a second trial. When my mom's spray tan lady cancelled on her last minute Talia accommodated us on the morning of the rehearsal dinner without skipping a beat. The spray tans are gorgeous and so natural looking and it lasted longer than I expected! I would 100% book her again. Thanks, Talia!! -

After a good amount of research, I stumbled on Talia and I’m so glad I did! From her website, I could tell I’d like her, and that was solidified through our initial correspondence. She’s extremely professional, organized, and runs her business intelligently. Plus, she offers a discount if you’re in BKLYN!! I loved my hair and makeup after the trial and didn’t hesitate to lock her in. She was fantastic. I felt beautiful on my wedding day and my hair and makeup stayed perfect all night! There are not enough words to describe how perfect my experience with Simple & Sultry was! Talia did my hair & makeup for my trial and on my wedding day. During my trial, she was extremely professional, detail-oriented, and super fun! She listened to all of my concerns and did exactly what I was looking for. On the day of my wedding, I decided to go with a completely different hairstyle and she absolutely nailed it. Talia and her assistant, Nicoletta, were fantastic with all of my bridesmaids, relatives and my mother. Halfway through hair & makeup, we were forced to move to a different room in the hotel. I was about to freak out, but Talia and Nicoletta were SO calm, reassuring, and helpful and moved all of their equipment with smiles on their faces. They are ANGELS. Everyone was extremely happy with the results and my mother, who is extremely hard to please, would not stop showing off her perfect hair & makeup to anyone who would listen. I used Talia and her team for my wedding hair, sunless tanning, and bridesmaid hair/tan/makeup. Let me start off by saying that Talia was a complete PLEASURE to work with from start to finish. She is a true professional, and her execution was flawless! I started off by doing a hair trial and tan trial (separately) before booking her services. She was prompt, very accommodating when I had some scheduling conflicts, and she traveled to me (even during a bad thunderstorm)! She is so friendly, positive, and answers any and all questions you may have. I did my tan trial first, and she really knows what she’s doing! She has it down to a science. It was the best spray tan result I’ve ever had. It was even, natural-looking, and faded away gradually versus getting splotchy like other lesser quality spray tans do. It was so natural looking that when my bridesmaids saw it, many of them booked her for spray tan for my wedding and she was very accommodating with group pricing. Next I had my hair trial. I showed her a picture of what I wanted for 5 seconds and she did a beautiful job. When she’s done she is very good about asking you if you are happy or if there’s anything you would like to change. I think I made one small tweak at the time. My mother in law also ended up booking a trial with her and was very happy with the results. When it came to my wedding day, Talia did my hair and it was even more perfect then the trial. I was floored! It stayed in place all night, kept its curl perfectly, and looked amazing in all of our wedding photos. Her team that did my bridal party hair and makeup also killed it. Everyone looked absolutely stunning. I seriously can’t say enough great things about Talia and her team. If you are thinking about booking her for your wedding then do it now! You can thank me later :) -

Talia did my hair and my bridesmaids hair and make up with an assistant. Everything was amazing! Her rates are very reasonable, she was a pleasure to work with and she took her time to make sure I tried every possibly style I could think of during my trial for my wedding. Then I completely changed what I wanted and we discussed a different look over email. She was very accommodating and reassuring anytime I was nervous about something throughout the whole process. Talia and her team saved the day! I have a lot of allergies to cosmetic products and Talia took the time to research and select makeup for me. She also came back for another trial when I wasn’t totally sure we’d gotten the look right (I didn’t know how to express what I wanted the first time). My hair trial knocked it out of the park! I was so incredibly happy on my wedding day - I felt and looked like myself but was ready for photos and happy tears. And I looked just as good 10+ hours later when the event was over. From the makeup/hair trial to the actual wedding day, Talia has been nothing short of wonderful! She is very punctual, responsive, and just an all around great person. During the trial, Talia listened to what I wanted and did a natural look. When I thought the big lashes and heavy mascara was too much, she gladly redid my lashes to something lighter. She did a great job covering my acne scars. She's always checking in with you.. like "is that enough coverage for you?" "is there anything you think needs work?". She took pictures after my trial and wrote everything down.. it was the exact same if not better during my actual day. Thanks Talia! -

Marisa Sent on 04/22/2018I have such thick hair, salons triple the cost and I still end up with a bad hairdo. Somehow, Talia tamed the beast! No one has ever made me feel prettier and no one has ever ever ever been able to curl my hair, let alone wrangle it into an updo! The makeup was beyond perfect. I asked for a smokey eye and that's exactly what I got; not raccoon eyes. Talia showed up early and was professional, courteous, and patient with me (and I know that isn't easy). She was also super attentive to cleanliness which is rare. I'll only be trusting her with my hair and makeup from now on!! I have not one bad thing to say about her services and can't wait for the next excuse to have her do my hair and makeup!
