Excellent Makeup Artist

I did 2 trials from different makeup artists before coming to Elly (they all looked too heavy and somewhat off) and she was wonderful everyone told me how my makeup was so natural and pretty on my wedding day - she was always trying hard to be flexible and gave great advice as well. My groom did not want to do makeup at first but his makeup was so natural and beautiful as well. I highly recommend Elly and you will not regret. Finding a good makeup artist is so important and she did an excellent job finding the best look and hair for my wedding gown.

The Best Makeup Artist!

I found Elly years ago one day scrolling on Instagram, even before I was engaged. Looking through her work, every single bride looked stunning-- and I knew she was who I wanted to do my hair and makeup when I got married. And I was fortunate enough to be able to have my dream come true.

Elly was a dream to work with. I did a trial with her almost a year before my wedding, but we stayed in frequent communication leading up the day. Elly was highly responsive and always flexible when I asked for modifications to my hair or makeup. We ran into a scheduling issue two weeks before my wedding and she worked tirelessly with me to resolve it ASAP to make sure my wedding day ran smoothly.

Elly is truly the best makeup artist I've ever worked with, and I would highly, highly recommend you to book her for your wedding. She was kind, professional, and overall such a wonderful person. I cannot say enough kind things about her. I hope every bride can experience Elly's magic touch, and maybe you'll look as good as I did on my wedding day :)

Wonderful hair and makeup services!

It was a wonderful experience getting our hair and makeup done for me, bridesmaids, mother, and mother-in-law! We had a diversity in ages, cultures, hair texture, and skin types but they both had no problem executing smoothly and according to timeline! I’d also like to comment on just how organized all of the makeup supplies were!

It was also so fun getting to chat in the morning with the wedding party and definitely helped to ease a lot of my pre-wedding anxiety.

I’m always pretty shy about how make up looks on me but I seriously felt so comfortable and confident as I was getting ready - all thanks to you! I know Hair and makeup is an art that is super hard to master and each service should be catered to the person - that is exactly what was provided.

Magician!! Absolutely the BEST ARTIST!!

My husband and I had the most incredible experience with Ella for our trial makeup and wedding day! She is an absolute magician with makeup and hair. Her skills are top-notch professional!! She understood our vision perfectly and made us feel like the most beautiful bride and groom! Her attention to detail and talent are truly exceptional. Not only is she talented, but she is also so accommodating and friendly. We couldn’t have asked for a better artist for our big day who goes above and beyond! Excellent Hair and Make Up Service

Elly has great communication, is extremely professional, and is very talented at what she does. At the outset, Elly was great at answering all my questions about what services I should book, when I should book it, what other brides do, what she recommends, etc. Ex: she recommended that should I book a trial makeup/hair session, to try and line it up with my engagement shoot to get the most bang for my buck (thank you!).

I recommend booking the trial session - it really helps alleviate any concerns / questions you may have about what style you want (and minimizes additional stress on your wedding day). Elly provided HMU services for myself and the mothers on the wedding day, and also did the makeup for my bridesmaids as well. She was very attentive and gentle, especially with the mothers - she went above and beyond! Thanks to her, HMU was something I crossed off my list and didn't have to worry about once I booked - 10/10 recommend.

Simply the best!

Elly made me and my bridesmaids look natural yet beautiful! I got makeup and hair done for my engagement session and wedding, and she did a fabulous job for both! I highly recommend her. I definitely think she's the best Korean makeup artist in the area, if you're looking for subtle/natural makeup that is popular in Korea. She's also extremely personable and sweet and makes the time fly by!

Your face is in good hands!

So thankful and lucky that I had Saymakeupartist (Elly) available especially with less than 6 months to the wedding date AND she was able to execute not just me but the 4 bridesmaids +groom for our 11 AM wedding ON TIME! Very responsive, attentive, and professional to my questions and concerns. Because my eyes are difficult to work with and I care about what products I put on my face, I was pretty picky and particular. Elly was the perfect makeup/hair artist for me and was able to achieve what I wanted. She did such an amazing job and made me look and feel beautiful! Your face is in good hands!

From the moment we met for my bridal makeup trial Elly has been so wonderful to work with. She is responsive, passionate, and knows how to make you look beautiful (instead of using same styles on everyone).
In addition to the talent that she has she is so personable and pleasant to be around. All of my bridesmaids, mom and mother in law had a great time while getting ready with Elly. My hair and make up was PERFECT, and I almost cried when I saw my mom's make up because it was GORGEOUS.
She was super flexible, even when my venue was being demanding about certain requirements.

Elly is great!!

Elly was great to work with! I had so much fun during our trial, and Elly knew what makeup/ hair would look best for me so it only took one try to get the look I wanted. Elly was very responsive throughout the whole process, and she was also very flexible. I changed my package a few times before the wedding and I even added an extra service the day of, and she was able to accommodate to all my needs. She has a very bright, bubbly personality so she made the getting ready process the morning of the wedding very enjoyable, and the makeup/ hair was beautiful. I received so many compliments from the guests :) I would definitely recommend Elly to anyone who is looking for a makeup artist for their wedding!

Super natural but beautiful

Elly did it all by herself on my wedding day with three bridesmaids, two mothers, and my makeup and hair on time. Because I didn't want anyone else to do it except her!

Elly got to know every lady personally and made every person feel heard, treating each woman like it was her special day.
If you want a kindhearted, caring, and fabulously talented individual to get you through your wedding, look no further.

My husband could not believe how natural and enhanced I looked and he keeps raving about how I looked so natural since we were both afraid of the turning deferent our special day.

The best decision I made for my wedding was finding Elly!
Elly is incredibly talented, but she’s are genuinely wonderful human beings that I enjoyed spending my big day with.

I looked and felt like a goddess all day while still looking like myself, rather than feeling hidden behind heavy makeup and extensions.

I have experienced makeup from several makeup artists who are famous in the region as a bridesmaid of my friends, I was never satisfied. I have not met anyone as good as Elly. and that my review will help future customers of Elly who are agonizing among several makeup artists. so much better than any other Korean American makeup artist for the VA area also many of the vendors! She did a fantastic job!

I had a fantastic experience with Elly! I first had her do my hair and makeup for my engagement shoot, which was the first time I had ever had my hair or makeup professionally done. I had brought some example photos of what I was looking for, and Elly made the end result better than I had hoped for. As someone who doesn't know much about makeup, I appreciated how helpful Elly was in guiding me through the whole process. Highly recommend say Makeup Artist!

Fabulous Makeup Hair

She is amazing. She and her assistants did a fabulous job on hair and makeup for me, my bridal party, and MOB and MOG. I do not wear makeup on a regular basis, so wanted to find someone who could make me look wedding fabulous while still looking like myself. Elly struck the perfect balance with my makeup and hair. I could not have been happier. I was also blown away by how uniformly great my bridesmaids' makeup and hair were and how well the makeup held throughout the day.

Professional!

Elly is attentive to what you want to look like. She is professional, and on time to the appointment. I absolutely loved both my hair, and make up for for my wedding! I truly felt like a bride. Her make up application felt very light, but her artistry really brought out my features in photos. I have really long heavy hair, and she made it work. Best of all, the hair and makeup lasted all night!! I would keep her in my contacts for future hair and makeup needs!

She is the perfect professional makeup artist!

Elly is so sweet, she made me feel incredibly comfortable and she is very easy to talk to! I felt like I already knew her when we met. I don't typically wear a lot of makeup, so I was nervous about having it done, but I really have never felt more beautiful. Elly did a great job of keeping it natural but also making me look like a bride on my wedding day! And I also loved my hair, she emailed me my bridal vision to life. Elly can make the bride the princess of her wedding! :)

I'm so glad that I was able to find Elly to be the hair and make-up artist for me and my mom on our wedding day! She was very responsive when I was discussing with her about the style of the make-up and hair that I wanted.

Although there was a charge for the travel fee (especially since she traveled from Germantown Maryland to Lorton, VA at the break of dawn for our noon wedding), she happily agreed to travel down to Lorton on an early Sunday morning.

When I showed her the pictures of the make-up and hairstyle that my mom and I wanted, she right way knew what I had in mind. We also had the groom's hair down which he and I both really liked which made the handsome groom even more stunning. :)

She shared the DO's and DON'Ts for the bride to make sure that the bride would not get any breakouts or skin irritation before the wedding...

Even hiring her under the COVID situation, Elly was professional and prepared. She was wearing a mask at all times during her service. She was keeping composure when I was getting a bit anxious about the time management as she had to do both my makeup and hair and my mom's and the groom's hair. She checked several times both inside the bridal suite and outside to show me and explain to me that the make-up for the outdoor wedding can look different from the indoor one. She also took into consideration that the make-up should last for hours during the indoor reception thereafter. She even had a small thoughtful gift as she gave me a lipstick and a mini lip gloss so that I could reapply the lipstick during the wedding even after she left.

Both me and my mom loved our makeup and hair and got a lot of compliments on my make-up from friends on our wedding day! And my make-up stayed great even after dancing on the dance floor although I was sweating a bit my friends told me that minus the little bit of sweaty face, my make-up still looked perfect! :)

Thank you Elly for your professionalism and the talent and even your thoughtfulness and the friendly service on our wedding day making the bride be at ease and perfectly in time for the ceremony! :)

Long lasting make up!

Elly provided make up and hair services for my engagement photoshoot as well as wedding. She is not only professional, but also very friendly. I was very comfortable during the entire time I was getting make up and hair done. It was a rainy and a very humid day, but my make up and hair stayed the whole time and there was no need for re-touch at all!

Make-up & Hair

I first met Elly for my pre-wedding photo session for the make-up and hair. I know nothing about make-up since I barely put daily make-up on. But with her experiences, she talked/guided me through to get to what I like. I was extremely satisfied with her, so I decided to book her for the wedding day. She did make-up for me, groom, and 2 mothers. She did great job managing times and handle all of us in the limited time. She also did great job meeting the expectation of getting us the “natural look” make-up. She is also very easy to talk to and I enjoyed the make-up and hair process, arguably lengthy time for myself, with stress-free! Every person I met after the wedding was asking me about the make-up and hair. I highly highly recommend Elly and you won’t regret it!

Elly provided makeup and hair services for our engagement photos and wedding day. She was super flexible and provided super early morning service so that I could make it up to New York in time for our engagement session and showed up at our hotel promptly at the promised time on the morning of our wedding day. She made everyone including our parents feel comfortable while making us look beyond beautiful for our big day. She even gave my bangs a quick cut last minute to provide the look i wanted for my hair. I would recommend her 100% to everyone! Thanks Elly!

Wonderful experience I would definitely recommend Elly. She did my wedding hair and makeup and I could not be happier with the work she did. She was super nice and made me feel comfortable, she listened to what I was looking for and after she was done I looked exactly how I imagined! I was super happy with the results. So beautified my iPhone didn’t recognize me

Highly recommend. No lengthy review necessary at all- my iPhone didn’t recognize me and I had to type in passcode to unlock the whole entire day. She worked without taking ANY break for straight 12 hours, and all of those who got their makeup loved how they looked and maintained their beautiful face even after the crazy sweaty reception we had. I got married in hot and humid August, and my bridal makeup stayed strong even after 2 hours outdoor photo shoot. I recommend reaching out asap to endure availability. Even K pop artists reach out to her for makeup whenever they’re in town for US tours- she’s really in demand. Reach out and send initial deposit asap to hold your spot!

Perfect Make Up

Elly did make-up for myself and 5 bridesmaids, as well as hair & make-up for two mothers and the groom. Everyone looked amazing! All of us wear very light daily make-up, so we were all a bit anxious about how we would look with a full face of make-up - but Elly created flawless, comfortable but glamorous looks for all of us. I was in love with my make-up, and all of my bridesmaids and the mothers loved how they looked and they felt beautiful. And she made my husband look like a star! I don't know how she groomed his hair and did his make-up so naturally. He almost looked photoshopped, but no one could tell he was wearing make-up. It was like magic. She is professional, prompt, and insanely talented. If you're Korean or Asian, I really wouldn't look any further. I wasted money on trials with other artists until I found Elly. She's amazing at what she does!

AMAZING! I absolutely loved Elly. She came right to my venue where I was staying, set up and made myself and all of my girls so comfortable and stress-free throughout the makeup and hair process. I hope to use her again for future events in the DMV area because it was such a great experience. Say Makeup Artist really made my wedding day very special. She was very detailed-oriented and knew exactly how I wanted hair & makeup for my wedding. My makeup turned out elegant and perfect. As for my hair, I had envisioned it to have a high bun, but had shoulder length hair. She had made it work so that I did end up having the perfect high bun. She also helped me feel calm throughout the whole hair & makeup session with kind and encouraging words. I would highly recommend Makeup and hair by Elly to any bride. Elly was on time, she was very patient, and the make-up looked phenomenal! I got married on an incredibly hot, humid day, even though I sweated a lot the make-up never came off the whole night. Everyone said that I looked radiant, and the pictures that I have seen are perfect.
Elly herself has a perfect personality. She is very gentle and unobtrusive. She also very kind and helpful. I had a hard time figuring out how to put on my dress because there were a lot of undergarments and etc. She took the time to come over and help me to figure out and get into the dress, and how to put my veil on my hair Also, Elly stayed later then she needed to in order to touch up the makeup and make sure that everyone in the bridal party looked good before pictures and the ceremony.

The moment you see her, you know you're in good hands. Not only is she beautiful, but VERY kind and patient. She was punctual, very friendly, and had all her equipment set out by the time. With absolutely zero-exaggeration,
most truthfully and honestly, whether you are looking for minimal preparation for an event, or a complete make-over for the big day like a wedding, Elly is the way to go.
My initial complain for artists in this DMV area was that regardless of artists' race or age, the final make-up look were very unnatural and awkward, not fitting the customer's inane beauty.
I wanted to look as amazing as I can, but still make sure people can recognize me.

I've had Elly service both make up and hair for my mother, mother in law, my husband, and myself for my wedding and we've all received countless compliments. My family and in-laws loved Elly and her skills, and many invitees asked who my family and I received my make up and hair from.

Absolutely amazing!!

Elly is so incredibly talented and sweet. I contacted her the day before our dohl event, and luckily she was able to fit me into her schedule. She not only did a wonderful job on my updo, but she was also so accommodating to my two little daughters + my mother. She was able to do a beautiful hairstyle that suited both my modern dress & hanbok with hairpieces without ever have worked with my hair before. The updo survived hours of my two daughters pulling on my hair for attention. She's fluent in both Korean and English with helped with communication within the family as well. SAY Makeup artist, Ellie, is a true professional all around. She is very talented in her craft and very charming and easy going.

I did a trial session at her home studio, and I was so impressed with the professional set up, with lighting, camera, and so many makeup and tools. Because of her experience she was able to listen to my vision, concerns (make my face smaller, unkept bushy and uneven eyebrows, wrinkles, etc) and magically transform me into a beautiful final product I never imagined. She was great with matching makeup for my skin tone, which I credit to her expertise.

On the day of my engagement party, she came and did my mom’s hair and makeup and mine too. She met us at our hotel with her portable studio. I was so amazed by how much she could carry, was willing to carry, etc. I was especially charmed by Ellie with how great she is with customers. My mom enjoyed the pampering that day, and I thank Ellie for being so graceful and charming with my mom. I was even more floored by her professional tradecraft when she started to pull out all sorts of tools and tricks, hair balls to stuff under real hair to make you look like you have hair (my mom has really bad thinning hair and can see the scalp, but Ellie’s tricks made my mom look like she had natural full head of hair). She is also thoughtful and prepared a little bag of touch up makeup to last me throughout the day.

Ellie is sooo great to work with. Magical transformation artist, fluent in English and korean, very thoughtful, and a true winning personality!

Thanks Ellie for making me look ten years younger, ten pounds lighter, smaller face, sophisticated, and have makeup and hair be one less thing I worry about.

She’s the best makeup artist

Elly recently did make-up for myself and my bridesmaids at my wedding. I really appreciate that Elly took the time to really listen to what kind of makeup and effect I wanted, and did a trial run with me prior. I rarely wear make-up, and I was afraid I would look too “over done” However, she really beautiful make-up that merely made me look enhanced. Elly did all the things I would expect a makeup artist + hairstylist to do: I sent her pictures, she made some suggestions and recommendations, we did a trial - everything was great. What I think sets Elly apart is how gracious she is on the actual day of the wedding.

In the days leading up to my wedding, the mother-of-groom changed her mind and decided she *did* want hair and makeup done after all. On the actual *day of the wedding* some of my aunts crashed my bridal suite and asked Elly to do a little makeup on them as well. We were running an hour behind, the photog + assistant and coordinator had just arrived, and it was a little chaotic in the room - but Elly kept her cool and was extremely generous with her time and expertise. She actively engaged MOG + aunts, kept them occupied and satisfied, giving me the space to deal with the other tasks at hand.

I feel so lucky to have had a vendor who was not only skilled at her job - but who also was just generally helpful on the day of. She would be an excellent choice for any bride.

Elly did an amazing job with the makeup and hair for my wedding! I was nervous about trying to find a MUA, because I already had a trial somewhere else that didn’t go so great. I wanted someone who could really make me look and feel extraordinary on my wedding day. And she did it!! Elly and her assistant was AMAZING!! They did hair and makeup for my wedding day. They arrived early, kept everything on time, and everyone looked INCREDIBLE! Elly is such a talented makeup artist! I really loved her natural Korean style makeup and I am so happy that I booked Elly for my wedding day makeup and hair! She was responsive, prompt, and reliable (always replied to my emails within a day). On my wedding day, she arrived at the hotel even earlier than me to avoid any delay. As soon as she saw my wedding dress, she knew what makeup and hairstyle would look perfect with my dress and me. She is most professional make up artist I ever meet! She knows which style is best for you. On my wedding day, she made me a little princess and also our bridesmaid and my husband. Every one at my wedding, asking me where I done my hair and make up. If anyone asking me where they need to go for hair and make up, she is the one that I'm going to recommend. I wanted a natural, soft makeup & hair and Elly perfectly captured and did it for me! She is very easy to communicate with, listens to what I want and even suggests the best look to correspond well with the dress. She also checked how I was doing periodically and gave helpful advise & tips. I am very satisfied with her service and would like to say thank you to Elly again for making me beautiful for my big day. I highly highly recommend her!!

I was very lucky to find her for my wedding! She did make up & hair for me (bride) & other ladies in my family (they looked absolutely beautiful!!). I received so many compliments on my wedding day. She knows what will look good on you! Everything about working with Elly was wonderful & easy. After a long wedding day (from 8am to 12am) make up looked still good and stayed nicely. I highly recommend Elly if you are in the area. She's the best! I'm still so thankful to find her. Thank you Elly!!

Elly is a very talented makeup artist in the DMV area. She was professional and courteous from booking the last minute makeup and hair trial session all the way to the end of our wedding. Our wedding started and ended a bit later than we had planned due to the rain but she was so accommodating. I wanted more of a natural look for my wedding and she did exactly that! Guests complimented on my makeup saying how it was not too over the top and didn't make me look like a totally different person but still enhanced my natural beauty. Schedule a trial session with Elly: I'm sure you'll love her as much as I did :)

Elle is a great makeup artist!! She does natural finish makeup that is not overly too soft or strong. Also, she brings out the beauty in you and perfectly hides some of the flaws on your skin that you would want to hide on your wedding day. 5 out of 5! I definitely recommend Elle! to do your makeup :)

Outstanding expertise and committment

Elly was our hair and makeup artist. From the very beginning, Elly went above and beyond to make sure that the makeup was perfect for our wedding day.

I chose Elly for her experience with doing make up on East Asian skin. She made me feel comfortable and confident in her abilities. The first makeup trial was absolutely flawless, I was so happy with the results.

What also stood out to me was Elly's commitment to accommodating the unique needs of my bridesmaids. With three bridesmaids of Hispanic and West African descent, all with darker complexions, Elly was more than willing to adapt and ensure that their makeup was just as exceptional. She let me to bring one of my bridesmaids to the makeup trial for shade matching, which turned out well. She also let my then-fiancé, who has sensitive skin and eczema, come to my makeup trial to test the foundation he would be using at our wedding. This extra effort on Elly's part helped put our minds at ease, knowing that my bridesmaids would have the right shade and my fiancé's skin would not react adversely on our big day. Elly's consideration truly made a difference in ensuring that everything was perfect.

While the makeup services were undoubtedly outstanding, I feel it is important to note that I had some reservations in the beginning about the hair services. However, I want to emphasize that Elly's dedication and effort to make everything right were evident. We went through three different hair trials until I was satisfied, and she was patient and committed throughout the process.

In summary, I couldn't have asked for a more talented and accommodating makeup artist for my wedding. Elly's expertise and commitment to meeting the unique needs of each person made the hair and makeup process a wonderful experience. I would wholeheartedly recommend her for any special occasion, knowing that she has the skill and passion to make you look and feel your absolute best. Thank you, Elly, for making me and my bridal party feel absolutely beautiful on my wedding day.

The experience was awesome!
After the trial makeup for my engagement photo, I was totally satisfied and decided (on the spot) to do my wedding day makeup with her. Some of my friends who were at my wedding liked her natural, subtle makeup technique and decide to work with her for their wedding days. You won’t regret!
