My partner and I were a bit apprehensive about hiring someone that we didn't know to play such an intimate role in our wedding. However, after one phone call with Rick Grove, we knew we had lucked out and found the exact right guy! He was warm, funny, reassuring, and immediately gave us both the shared feeling that this was exactly who we wanted to hear from during our most special time. Rick patiently listened to us as individuals, as a couple, and as his clients, and did all he can to accommodate our wishes and personalize our ceremony. He had many beautiful readings and ceremony parts for us to choose from and customize, and provided his own (unjudgmental) guidance to help us choose the perfect ceremony flow. In his individual interviews with us, he asked some open-ended questions and allowed us to truly share what is special about our partner and our relationship, which he tastefully incorporated into his script. Many people told us that the ceremony was beautiful and just the perfect length--we couldn't agree more. Rick Grove feels more like a long-time family friend than a hired officiant, and that just speaks to his absolute perfect fit for this role. He loves what he does, and we loved having him be an integral part of our ceremony. Rick's fees were already quite modest, and were worth every at that. We will be forever grateful for the seamless process and beautiful ceremony that Rick gave to us. You absolutely CANNOT be disappointed here, and we vow to that.

The Perfect Officiant
From the start, we knew we wanted an officiant we didn’t already know, but Rick completely exceeded expectations by making our ceremony feel deeply personal anyway. He took the time to truly understand us, meeting with each of us individually, customizing the ceremony, and learning our story in a way that felt thoughtful and intentional. He captured us so perfectly, it felt like an extension of our own private vows.
Rick’s presence is calm, warm, and confident, which made the entire ceremony feel natural and genuine, which was nice because we were incredibly anxious to be in front of that many people. Beyond the ceremony, he was incredibly patient and professional staying afterward while we did our photos and waiting while we handled the marriage license, and making sure it was filed promptly.
If you’re looking for an officiant who truly cares and knows how to make a ceremony feel personal, we highly recommend him!

Heartfelt and memorable officiant—perfect ceremony!
Rick Grove officiated our wedding on September 20, 2025 at Loews Coronado Beach Resort, and we couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. From the start he asked guests to be present and put away their phones, which set a relaxed, sincere tone.
He wove a few personal touches into the ceremony—how we met at a house party in 2021, the long‑distance calls, and the proposal in front of our favorite painting. Those details made the service feel truly ours without being over‑the‑top.
During the ceremony Rick used two images that stuck with us. He compared our relationship to a garden, reminding us to “water regularly” and pull weeds early—a simple metaphor that felt both practical and uplifting. He also quoted Leonardo da Vinci’s idea of an arch: two weak points leaning against each other become strong. That analogy captured how we support each other’s strengths and weaknesses.
The short readings (“Wedding Prayer” and a passage from The Art of Marriage) fit nicely, and Rick guided us smoothly through the announcements, processional, vows, ring exchange, and the final blessing. His calm, friendly manner kept us relaxed while we said our vows, and his closing words left us feeling hopeful about the future.
We also received many compliments from our guests on how great Rick was—everyone remarked on his warmth, professionalism, and the personal touches that made the ceremony feel special.
Overall, Rick was professional, warm, and easy to work with. We’d gladly recommend him to any couple looking for an officiant who balances personal touches with a down‑to‑earth style.

Absolutely Incredible Officiant!
We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect officiant for our wedding. He went above and beyond to make our ceremony truly personal and unforgettable. He took the time to meet with both of us separately before the big day, reviewing our vows, learning our love story, and thoughtfully weaving it into the ceremony. Absolutely Fantastic Officiant
We had the pleasure of having Rick Grove as our officiant at our wedding at the beginning of June. I can tell you he is a very detailed oriented individual who just got everything right during his delivery at our ceremony.
Rick took the time to meet with my now wife and I early in our wedding planning to talk about the details of what we wanted in our ceremony and also to help each other to get to know one another better. What we learned about Rick is he is a very personable and graceful individual who was genuinely curious about our story together. He also catered very well to our wants and needs for the ceremony and was quick to respond to our questions.
Rick delivered at our ceremony the most wonderful retelling of our first moments together and some of the most important parts of our lives that shaped our relationship. Rick was recommended through our venue and he was fantastic. He took time to get to know us both together and individually. Rick was the first -- and only -- officiant we interviewed because we knew almost immediately he was the right fit. Rick was incredibly helpful, confident, and nurturing. He really strived to get to know us as individuals and as a couple. Rick was always available for a quick question over email, phone or text (and I had a lot of questions the closer we got to the wedding date). Rick was amazing to work with and I definitely recommend him to anyone looking for a professional, well-spoken officiant. I spent a lot of time researching officiants for our ceremony, and I initially struggled with who to hire for this part of the wedding. It was important to my now husband and I to hire someone that we felt would be a calming presence for the two of us during the ceremony, but also someone that was comfortable speaking in front of crowds.
When I reached out to Rick, I had initially asked him if he would meet the two of us for coffee so that we could get to know each other a bit more. He was very willing, and it was awesome speaking with him and getting to know his background better. Throughout the process, Rick was responsive, guiding, and flexible. He was open to any of our suggestions regarding the ceremony, and he made sure that we were happy with the script prior to the wedding day. Rick also took the time to get to know the two of us separately and together so that he had a good picture painted of who we are as a couple before the wedding.
During the ceremony, Rick was such a calming presence. He spoke clearly and professionally, and I received so many compliments from our guests about him after. When reflecting on the ceremony, my husband and I agreed that he made the both of us feel more relaxed and centered while we were standing up in front of a crowd of people.

I had the pleasure of knowing Rick for a few years before my wife and I got married. My wife and I were excited to work with him because I already knew how great he is to work with and how kind of a person he is. The professionalism and personalization he brought to our ceremony had everyone at the reception telling us how it was the best ceremony they had been to. Rick was considerate of everyone involved and worked out details with our photographer to ensure everything looked great during the ceremony. He met with us both separately before the wedding to add anecdotes to the ceremony, adding a very special touch to it. Amazing officiant!
Rick is an amazing professional! We were slightly hesitant to hire someone we didn’t know to be our wedding officiant, but we are so glad that we hired Rick. He made us feel at ease for this important part of our day. We had decided to write our own vows, which he offered to look over beforehand, which we felt was an amazing personal touch. He met with each of us separately (on Zoom) to go over how we felt and what we would want included for each other. He wanted to know how we would each describe each other, how we felt about each other, and was able to incorporate that into his speech. He really takes the time to get to know you. He was able to charmingly articulate how we felt about each other to our guests. These were surprises for us during the ceremony, which we both enjoyed. We were able to see the script of our wedding beforehand (except for the surprises and personal vows) and personalize it with Rick. We felt fortunate because he only officiates a certain number of weddings a year. We absolutely loved Rick’s style, energy, professionalism, kindness, organization, and reliability. Very appreciative of Rick and his flexibility and professionalism for our big day. He was very well spoken, prompt and made elopement perfect. He went above and beyond and even brought his Airpods and tripod to Facetime my mother for the ceremony, who was not there dealing with major health problems. Very appreciative of him doing that and made this process very easy and less stressful! I 10/10 recommend Rick!

Rick performed our wedding in December of 2023. From start to finish, he made sure our ceremony was exactly the way we wanted it to be. He took time to incorporate the elements of faith as well as the new traditions that we wanted to incorporate. Rick was terrific from start to finish. He made it all so easy for us. He had an amazing template which we took from him and implemented our own ideas to better customize our ceremony.
He was helpful in preparing the ceremony dialogue. Anytime we didn’t know what we wanted he gave his suggestions and ideas through his valuable experience in officiating, which we then incorporated.
Rick’s performance of the ceremony was absolutely stellar. We had many guests complimenting the ceremony, but specifically pertaining to Rick, regarding his voice, his tone and the flow of the ceremony which he very successfully executed.
Rick was super prepared and professional.
Added bonus, he helped with the handling process of our marriage license.

Wonderful experience!
While I know some couples have had family and friends officiate, and it's been a really beautiful experience, I've also witnessed the exact opposite, so my husband and I wanted to bring in a professional. Rick did an excellent job. His officiating was personalized, heartfelt, and beautifully delivered, and he was absolutely lovely throughout the process. Highly recommend.

Thoughtful, fun and memorable
Rick was the best officiant. He patiently helped us write our script and added great ideas. All of our guests (young to older) loved different parts of the ceremony and came up to us after the ceremony. Rick also helped with the marriage certificate. He went above and beyond to make our day more smooth and special.

Rick was extremely flexible during the planning process. We had to reschedule a couple of calls due to busy work schedules and other things in life that come up, but Rick always was able to work with us.
Rick truly made an effort to get to know us and to make our ceremony personal. We received so many compliments from family and friends about our ceremony and Rick specifically. Rick made our ceremony fun, funny, and sweet all at the same time. The crowd laughed while also having serious moments, which is exactly what we asked for.
Rick is a great speaker and a true professional, while seeming like a family member or friend officiating. Rick even made photos better because he knew when to not be in photos and where we should be standing for the best photo.
HIRE RICK! You will not regret it. He is also so reasonably priced. Worth every penny.

Amazing! This experience was more than I could have expected.
Finding Rick was the biggest blessing.
We were on the search to find someone to officiate our wedding.
Rick Skype with Brandon and myself to meet us. You can feel the passion he has for really making the couple feel like they are his top priority.
He arranged a second phone call to go over schedule and also to do private interviews with bride groom separate this way he can make your wedding day as personable as possible. And boy did he delivered. Rick felt like he known me and Brandon for years: it really set the tone for all of our loved one.
I felt so much gratitude and Rick really set the tone. He asked what we wanted out of the ceremony and I said I want simple, love, funny.
Not to mention he did this all with 2 toddlers there with us. 10/10 recommend him.

First I just want to say if you are unsure on who to officiate your wedding Rick is the perfect choice. My husband and I found Rick through WeddingWire and talked with him a couple days after our initial email. Right away we agreed he was the perfect person to marry us. Rick took the time to really customize and help us make the perfect ceremony for us. We had phone calls both together and separately to tell him about us and our story. This attention to detail was exactly what we had hoped for in our ceremony. On the big day Rick exceeded every expectation we could have possibly had. Our ceremony was tailored to us and our story. Rick did a great job on our ceremony at the Darlington House in La Jolla. He was professional and made our ceremony so much better than asking one of our friends to do it. We really lucked out when we found Rick in such short notice to officiate our wedding. My fiancé and I knew when we had our first phone call meeting with Rick we wanted him to officiate our wedding, we liked what he had to provide and say, he sends over a templet and goes over the details with you. Rick was recommended to me by my wedding planner. We had to go through multiple postponements during covid. During these times of uncertainty Rick's flexibility and kindness really eased our minds. Rick had even offered to wed us in a private elopement ceremony if we wanted/needed to be wed sooner.
We were both moved by the personal touches he made in our ceremony. Rick interviewed us individually to get to know us personally before the wedding. Using those conversations he personalized our ceremony to be a brief stroll down memory lane in the moments before our "I do"s. It had us and our guests crying and laughing throughout.
I may be quite biased, but it was the best personalized ceremony I've ever heard from a professional. Thank you so much Rick for making our ceremony so special and memorable.

Rick is the best!
COVID-19 hit and we didn’t think we would be able to get married until next year sometime. Rick helped us make it happen with a very small ceremony! He is extremely responsive and great to work with. We have nothing but good things to say about him. He is very easy to work with and gives great suggestions for the ceremony. We were looking at a very short ceremony, but with his additions we were able to extend it a little bit longer. We are very thankful we found him and he could help us with our special day. HIGHLY recommend Rick!!

Rick was utterly amazing!
Rick did an utterly amazing job officiating our wedding! He took the time beforehand to really get to know us, and had some great ideas that made our ceremony fun, personalized, and just perfect all around. Easy and tailored to us
After finding Rick on wedding wire, we met with him and immediately knew we needed to hire him. Not only was he incredibly personable, but he ensured us that our ceremony was going to reflect us as a couple and tailored specifically to us. We were able to read the ceremony script and add/subtract anything we wanted, and Rick was always available for insight and any help that we may need. On the day of, he went through everything perfectly. He also ensured that our marriage certificate was mailed to the county offices so we didn't have to worry about that! It was such a painless experience and u would highly recommend him to everyone!

Such a wonderful officiant!
We were looking for an officiant that was personable, eloquent, and professional. Rick was all of this and more! Even from a long distance (we were getting married across the country from where we live), he guided us in creating a romantic, touching, and personal ceremony plan. He even did private interviews with us both to add small touches to the ceremony that we didn’t expect. We highly recommend Rick!

Fantastic Wedding Officiant
Rick was a wonderful officiant on our special day. He was very thorough and responsive throughout the discovery process, getting to know us as a couple and weaving in personalized anecdotes into the ceremony. Best Officiant
If you are looking for a wedding officiant look no further! Rick was absolutely amazing to work with throughout our entire wedding planning process and on our wedding day.
From the first call we had with Rick, we could immediately tell his professionalism and dedication to what he does. His officiant business is his passion project (his real profession is a school superintendent) and he put a ton of effort into making our ceremony the best it could be.
He interviewed both my husband and I separately and got to know us and our stories so he could put together a custom ceremony that included a lot about who we are and our love for each other.
All of our guests had nothing but amazing things to say about Rick and his performance during our ceremony.
We couldn’t have asked for a better wedding officiant. Thanks so much Rick!

Excellent Officiant!!!!!! We couldn't be happier!!!!!!
Rick was an amazing officiant. Our original officiant canceled a couple of months before the wedding and I was in a panic. I searched wedding wire and listened to many officiants and LOVED Rick's weddings, his voice, his words, and how professional he was. I set up and phone meeting and instantly knew I wanted Rick to officiate my wedding. Before the wedding I had several phone meetings with Rick where he customized my wedding and made it truly special. He got to know me and my fiance before the wedding and added in special detail. I loved everything about my wedding and I LOVED having Rick as our officiant. My officant canceling was the best thing to happen to us because having Rick was truly an honor. I can't say enough positive things about him! All my friends and family would agree, it was truly a special day and ceremony performed by Rick. I couldn't be happier!

The Perfect Wedding Day!
My husband and I needed an officiant and we were running out of time as our wedding was about 1-2 months away. We contacted Rick and he immediately took us on. My husband and I each had personal one on one phone calls with Rick to tell our love story. Rick really took the time to get to know us as a couple. Our ceremony was absolutely beautiful. We highly recommend him!

Wonderful and Thoughtful Wedding Officiant
I found Rick through Wedding Wire and I was very glad I did. My husband, Tommy, and I are from Vancouver, Canada but our wedding was in Palm Springs. Even though we were only able to chat to Rick via phone leading up to the wedding, he immediately connected through his comfortable style and personality. We loved how he tailored the ceremony and made it feel very much like us. So many guests complimented the ceremony and asked how we were able to find him.
Very very pleased with Rick service and would highly recommend him to anyone!

Incredible Officiant
My (now) husband and I are so happy that we found Rick Grove. His officiating of our wedding was absolutely perfect and his ability to work with us and create the perfect ceremony was fantastic! Both of us are very busy with work and Rick was even able to work around our schedules to speak with us over the phone and via e-mail to create a truly amazing ceremony. Rick Grove is the best officiant -- Highly recommended ☆☆☆☆☆
We found Rick Grove through Wedding Wire and were so happy to have went with him as our officiant, as everything went extremely well. Our guests came up to us after the ceremony and only had great things to say about the readings and ceremony. Rick was easy to communicate with and was very responsive and helpful. He even personalized the service with personal facts about us after speaking with both of us individually. It was nice to have someone officiate our wedding that was professional, friendly and made our big day special. Rick was very well-dressed and came fully prepared with his smart device and a hard copy backup of the ceremony. He was such an invaluable resource and we would highly recommend his services to anyone in the San Diego, Del Mar and Carlsbad area. Thank you so much, Rick! Thoughtful, professional, and personable.
My wife and I are very happy we decided to go with Rick as our wedding officiant. Initially, we considered having a friend get ordained, but after meeting Rick we knew he would be a great fit as he is experienced and very well spoken. Also, Rick kept my wife and I involved throughout the process. From our initial meeting through the ceremony (and after) Rick has been thoughtful, professional, courteous, and very personable. The ceremony proceeded without a hitch and Rick had a great command of the crowd. If you are looking for an excellent officiant my wife and I highly recommend Rick.

Professional officiant
Rick officiated our wedding and the rehearsal ceremony.. Rick prepared us well for our big day. He was very organized and made us feel comfortable and like we knew him for years. We highly recommend him and recommend including him in the ceremony rehearsal.

What a great officiant!!! We started off over coffee and tea talking about the life my now husband and I started a couple years ago. It was very easy to talk with Rick about life and the special things share between my husband and I. He was professional and helpful with the process of putting together a beautiful ceremony script. When the day of the wedding came there was no dry eye in the house. We had such a blast with him and my wedding went so smooth. We are a nondenominational couple and had our own traditions we wanted. Rick incorporated our traditions in to the ceremony with ease and grace. Thank you Rick for everything!

No need to look further, go to Rick to officiate your wedding! Rick was everything my husband and I were hoping to find, we were struggling finding an officiant we connected with, and could afford. Every phone call and every email was professional yet personal, and he had the ability to make me and my now wife feel the most comfortable while sharing our love story with him. Rick was fantastic! He officiated our wedding back in May and did a phenomenal job. He was everything we wanted in an officiant; funny and serious at the right times. We received so many compliments on our ceremony and how lovely it was. Rick also guides you in the right direction, based on what type of ceremony you are looking for, and allows you to create something completely unique to you as a couple.
