We’re so happy we chose Purple Onion for our wedding! The menu options were fantastic, and everything we tried was delicious. The entire team, from the event designers to the servers and bartenders, was professional, friendly, and attentive. Our event designers Elle and Sydney did an excellent job, they were quick to respond and made the day run so smoothly. Purple Onion was a phenomenal caterer—the food was great, the staff coordinators were helpful and communicative, and the servers were kind and efficient. We had a package that included a welcome beverage, passed hors d’oeuvres, a full bar with two signature drinks at cocktail hour (we provided the liquor), plated dinner, a cake (purchased separately), and additional passed deserts as a late-night snack.
At the tasting, Elle, our main event coordinator was very friendly and helpful, answering our questions and explaining the run of show for a wedding. Tasting portions were generous and gave an accurate picture of what we could expect the day of.
The rental appointment (through Select Events) was helpful to actually understand what the wedding would look like. We found that we tended to prefer higher “tiered” tableware than we were initially quoted for, so it was a good thing we built a cushion into our budget, but the difference was less than $10/head.
Throughout the process, the Purple Onion team members working with us were quite responsive to our questions and requests. They were able to accommodate all of our guests’ dietary restrictions and handled some last-minute additions seamlessly.
The staff present during the actual day of were very professional and friendly. The dinner service was very efficient – people were served approximately at the same time, so no one had to endure the sometimes endless wait for their table’s “turn” to be served. I will note, because we were not informed in advance, that bar staff are not permitted to serve shots and are reluctant to pour sipping liquors neat or on the rocks.
And the food, of course, was great! We went with the bistro steak, the miso salmon, and (sleeper hit) the porcini ravioli as our vegetarian option.Purple Onion Catering Company's reply:

We cannot recommend Purple Onion Catering highly enough! From start to finish, they were amazing—flexible, responsive, and incredibly helpful. We wanted a fully vegetarian wedding, and their team worked closely with us to craft a versatile, flavorful, and crowd-pleasing menu for our appetizers, main courses, and late-night bites. Every dish was thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented.
A special shoutout to Cassie and Sydney, who were absolute stars throughout the entire planning process. They were kind, patient, and always on top of every detail. Their guidance and creativity helped bring our vision to life, and they truly went above and beyond to make sure everything ran smoothly.

Purple Onion Catering was absolutely phenomenal and played a huge role in making our wedding unforgettable! The food was beyond amazing—elegant, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The short rib was melt-in-your-mouth delicious, the potato plank was a guest favorite, and the signature drinks were stunning and delicious. We had so many guests tell us it was the best wedding food they’ve ever had!

The food from Purple Onion was absolutely incredible—our guests loved everything from cocktail hour to the dessert table! Cassie and Sydney were so helpful answering our million questions and in guiding us through the menu and helping us pick our signature cocktail (“The Putterita”, a strawberry margaritas in honor of our two cats). I thought that the mac and cheese croquettes were to die for and my now husband devoured any mini lobster rolls he could get his hands on. The only hiccup was a menu alteration: we had changed the beef entrée from short rib to steak, but short rib was served on the wedding day. Thankfully, the only person who even noticed was me (and only because I don’t like short rib); everyone else thought it was absolutely delicious! We still fully recommend them, but suggest that future couples double-check their final menu orders carefully if making substitutions. We hired Purple Onion Catering Company for our September 2024 intimate wedding held at Hope Flower Farm. From my initial conversation with Phoebe, I was immediately impressed with her knowledge, attention to detail and her professionalism. We explored quite a few catering companies and Purple Onion is definitely the best value and the best quality! We communicated with Phoebe throughout the planning process and also met with her at our tasting (which was absolutely phenomenal by the way!). Phoebe also handled all rentals with Select Event Co. We were absolutely thrilled with our experience from initial inquiry to wedding day and could not have asked for anything more! We are so glad we chose Purple Onion to cater our wedding! For our October 2024 wedding, Margaret and Holly and the rest of the team were great to work with from start to finish. They were very accommodating when we wanted to add a custom dessert (chocolate covered strawberries), as well as when we made some last minute changes to our linen color selections.
They were super helpful at our walk through at our venue a month before the wedding, giving suggestions for where to place the bar, cocktail hour tables, dessert table, etc. In the weeks leading up to the big day there were some last minute details to nail down, and Margaret was very responsive and easy to work with. On the day of the wedding, all of the Purple Onion staff were professional and friendly, and the food and cocktails were delicious! One guest even said that the apple pie tarts were the best thing he’s ever eaten. Highly recommend Purple Onion! -

We had such an amazing experience with Purple Onion -- the food, of course, was exceptional. So many delicious options it will be near impossible to decide. The rentals were beautiful. On top of that, our coordinator was so thoughtful and diligent in helping us coordinate a ton of special touches, including a guava cosmo and handling specialty Polish cuisine from a local chef. Everything was perfectly executed, and it tasted amazing too! -

Delicious, stress free food
I used Purple Onion Catering for my wedding, and they were absolutely fantastic!! The service was on point, the food was delicious and they allowed us to adapt our menu to suit our tastes (for example, I wanted custom mocktails!). But most importantly, they could handle my life-threatening peanut allergy. They completely understood and were accommodating, "bride has peanut allergy" was marked on every catering sheet. I didn't have to worry about what I was eating on my wedding day and that meant the WORLD to me. Thank you Purple Onion for a delicious and stress-free wedding reception :) -

We had an exceptional experience working with Purple Onion to cater our wedding from beginning to end! My husband and I are vegetarian and we wanted our menu to be something that both we and our meat-eating family members would love. The menu they helped us put together exceeded all expectations! They were incredibly flexible and open to our feedback to make it exactly what we envisioned. Throughout the process, their team was always friendly and responsive when we wanted to tweak or swap something. We had so much fun at our tasting and on wedding day, every single staff member was conscientious and professional. They are well established in the catering space and it shows in their efficiency and care for presentation. The whole night we got compliments on the food including "I can't believe this is vegetarian, it's SO good!" and "We've been to 4 weddings this year and your food is the best by far!". What more could you hope for! The care that they put into our event from the pre-ceremony refreshing drinks to the gorgeous centerpieces they helped set up and of course to the insanely delicious food they made really took our event over the top. We couldn't recommend them more highly for your next catered event! -

I absolutely loved Purple Onion! We used them to cater our wedding based on the recommendations of our planner and tons of positive online reviews. And they really lived up to all the recommendations. The people we worked with were all so friendly and knowledgeable, I loved the tasting experience, and the fact that we got to try literally all the food that was served at our wedding. And the food itself was DELICIOUS! Multiple people told us the food was amazing. At the end of the night, they even boxed up extras for us to take home!
The best part though was that they specifically made a few cultural dishes for us! We gave them a few recipes of dishes specific to my country, and they tried them all! We ended up picking just one (because the other appetizers they had were just too good), but the fact that they were willing to try and then made them for our wedding impressed me so much. I 100% recommend Purple Onion! -

For my daughter’s wedding, we selected Purple Onion as our caterer for the cocktail and dinner experience. We are so glad we did! It was a wonderful experience from the very beginning. The tastings were so much fun and with so many delicious options, it was difficult to narrow down the menu! What an amazing staff; professional, attentive, and so helpful. The appetizers were so much fun, from Chicken-Waffle cones to the Sangria Watermelon bites which were a crowd favorite! The plated dinner was excellent; hot and delicious. I am still receiving texts from guests complimenting the food and the staff. I would highly recommend these vendors for your catering needs, as they will not disappoint!

Great service and delicious food!
Purple onion did an amazing job for our wedding! When they prepared our proposal, it had so many delicious options to choose from! We chose to do a duo plated meal meaning our guests got both a chicken and beef option so they didn’t have to choose! Which made it super easy the day of the wedding since 95% of our guests chose that. When we did our tasting, everything tasted AMAZING! It was so hard to narrow it down. The food tasted just as amazing the day of our wedding! We had so many compliments about how delicious our food was. Someone told us they wanted to lick their plate it was so good haha. They also made our wedding cake, which we just wanted a simple cake for us to cut but that came out gorgeous! There service was superb! We had someone checking on us all night asking if we needed anything and getting us drinks, etc. definitely so happy we chose purple onion as our caterer! -

Great service and experience!
We had a great experience working with Paige, Delorvy and the Purple Onion team for our wedding! We had a long engagement and inquired almost 2 years out so we had the pleasure of working with them for quite a bit of time. During those 2 years we made lots of changes to our menu, added desserts, late night snacks, etc. and Delorvy was always so responsive and helpful. The prices were also very competitive compared to other caterers in the area that we inquired with, allowing us to add extras we wanted. We had a great experience at our tasting - they accommodated a larger than usual group and even brought out the desserts with a candle since it was my husband's birthday. The food and service on our wedding day was flawless - they made sure both of us got a private plate of appetizers right after the ceremony, always had a drink in hand and even made us iced coffee mid reception when we needed a pick-me-up. We got lots of compliments on the food from guest, which was SO important to us. Food can honestly make or break your guest experience so don't hesitate to get Purple Onion on your vendor list!! -

Outstanding service all around
Purple Onion was amazing to work with. They made sure we had everything we needed for the day of the wedding when it came to cocktail hour and the food service. They also were very thoughtful by making sure the bride and groom had food and were hydrated before, during, and after the wedding while trying to take pictures and greet guest. On top of that, the food was AMAZING! Enjoyed working with Cassie leading up to the wedding! Highly recommend this caterer. -

Great Service
Our experience with Purple Onion was fantastic! Margaret was very helpful and responsive throughout the planning process, and the service during the event was outstanding. Everyone told us we wouldn't have any time to eat during our reception, but they couldn't have been more wrong! The wait staff was incredibly attentive, asked us when we wanted our dinner served, and made sure we were able to eat our entrees with no problem. -

Terrific food and great staff
We recently got married in June and hired Purple Onion to be our caterer. It was one of the best decisions we made for our wedding day. The food and service was top notch and the quality of communication throughout the planning process was exceptional. Our coordinator, Delorvy, was responsive, diligent, and thorough with every detail (right down to the plastic water bottles for guests at the end of the night). Purple Onion was also extremely considerate of guests' food sensitivities, accommodating an almost entirely gluten-free menu for us. Incredible Food and Perfect Service!
We absolutely loved all aspects of Purple Onion's involvement in our wedding. The food was 10/10, absolutely delicious and we got numerous comments about how good the food was….and not just the main entree but the side dishes as well.
We worked with Margaret during the planning process and she was beyond perfect. She was incredibly responsive and could tell she is very passionate about her job and ensuring all aspects of our wedding were perfect. It is a lot of work to pull everything together but not once during the planning process did I have any issue with Purple Onion. They made everything so easy!
Right after the wedding ceremony the Purple Onion staff were quick to offer us a cocktail and hors d’oeuvres and kept our drinks filled throughout the night.
Everyone was so happy all night. We have literally no complaints. -

Exquisite food was a focal part of our wedding vision and Purple Onion delivered a true culinary experience! During the menu preparation and tasting process, Purple Onion was very flexible in meeting our many requests, while also providing tasteful recommendations for our final menu. Our cocktail hour menu was very diversified, featuring international flavors and fresh seafood. Everything was extremely well prepared and flavorful, our guests have been raving for months afterwards! The dinner service was also like we were out at a restaurant. Not only was each dish vibrant and well portioned, but the service of the wait staff and bartenders helped create a great experience for our guests.
I would not hesitate to hire Purple Onion again, and would highly recommend to all of our family and friends. -

I used Purple Onion to cater my wedding and would recommend them whole heartedly! We worked with Margaret Zagrodniczek, who is incredible. We were nervous to plan a wedding, but she made us feel so comfortable and relaxed about the whole process. She thought of every detail we needed for our big day and was extremely accommodating when we had to move our wedding due to the pandemic. Truly the best in the business! Paige and all the staff at Purple Onion were so wonderful with whom to work! I had a very busy schedule as a surgical resident when planning my wedding out of state, and they did everything they could to accommodate me! Our guests said that the food was the best wedding food they'd ever had as well! Paige takes all your preferences in food very seriously, and when we said no cilantro there wasn't a speck anywhere ;) They were also so flexible with the changes to our wedding date as we had to reschedule it THREE times due to COVID-19- and there were no extra or hidden fees due! I'm not going to lie, this wasn't an inexpensive option. The most important thing for us to provide to our wedding guests was great food. Purple Onion delivered, ten fold. The team is so professional and the food is so delicious, to me it was worth every cent. I got to customize everything down to the Mac and Cheese bar, which people still mention to me to this day. The servers were so high quality, fast and responsive, you can tell they have this down to a science. If you want to sleep well at night knowing your guests will be blown away by your food and everything will be handled for you on your big day, hire Purple Onion, you won't regret it. -

We are so happy with our experience with Purple Onion. Our wedding was at the Winery at Bull Run and we planned our wedding in less than 3 months! We really had no idea what to expect and were nervous about the short timeline but Margaret made us feel taken care of every step of the way. We ended up going with a buffet option and the food was fantastic! Our guests are still talking it!! Don’t even get me started on the cupcakes (amazing!) the peanut butter and jelly cupcake was our favorite.
The only sad thing that happened was our small cake somehow got lost and never made it back home with us. When spoke with Margaret after the wedding to let her know what happened she said they would make us a brand new cake so we would still be able to celebrate our anniversary with a slice!

I found purple onion through my venue's preferred list. They were the first catering company to contact me back with detailed information of the process. We visited for a tasting and they had a personalized sign for us with champagne and so much food! It was delicious. We later came back because we wanted to try the food one more time before we made our decision. The contract and payment was easy going. I recommend this vendor to anyone. -

We were recently married and wanted to share our amazing experience with Purple Onion. During our initial search, we spoke to and sampled multiple catering services. We also scoured through countless online reviews and found Purple Onion to be on top of every list available.
While Purple Onion offers an extensive selection that were high-quality, elegant and delicious, we attribute our stress-free experience to Brooke’s exceptional support. She worked tirelessly from day 1 to the end of the event to ensure every detail (no matter how small) was perfect. She’s been responsive to all my questions (and there were a lot) and provided great recommendations based on her extensive experience.
One instance I wanted to share occurred during the beginning of cocktail hour. I was able to quickly step away from the commotion to take a peek at dinner preparations and in my walk-thru, noticed Brooke thoroughly engaged & focused; ensuring every individual dish was ideally plated (even down to the amount of salad dressing served to keep ingredients fresh). As I made my way back to the event a few minutes later, Brooke quietly approached me with a plate full of my favorite hor d'oeuvres (she wanted to make sure I enjoyed them before the long evening ahead)! While these might seem like very small gestures, it meant everything to me knowing she was doing a fantastic job and allowing me to enjoy quality time with family and friends.
Thanks to Brooke and the team (from the captain, to the servers and bartenders) for making our wedding day so memorable. It likely wouldn’t have been so perfect without all her hard work and dedication. For those interested in having your wedding or special event catered, not only will you (and your guests) enjoy an amazing meal but you’ll also work alongside a very talented professional, like Brooke. We definitely recommend! -

Amazing Caterer
We inquired about 10 catering quotes before narrowing it down to two for tastings. In the end, we chose Purple Onion primarily due to our catering manager, Paige. She was very experienced working with our venue and was extremely accommodating in the rental and catering process. Purple Onion’s food and service was far better than the other company we tried although not cheaper. The selection of appetizers was wonderful. We also appreciated that we could bring our own mixers (sodas, juices) and alcohol. We were able to save a good amount this way although the shopping and transportation wasn’t our favorite part of our wedding! :) Purple Onion provided their suggested quantities to buy of everything. While their suggestions ended up being about 2x what we ended up needing, we were able to return some of the excess and save even more. If your budget allows, I’d suggest just leaving it up to Purple Onion to avoid the hassle. I really appreciated the rentals meetings. Purple Onion suggests a company for rentals with very reasonable rates but when they didn’t have everything to meet my vision, Paige brought in items from a second rental company to complete the look. It was really above and beyond. On the day of our wedding, the server that I met was very professional and polite. I would certainly suggest Purple Onion and Paige specifically. -

We highly recommend Purple Onion for wedding catering! It was wonderful to work with them Paige made the entire process so easy for us! She was relatable, had a sense of our style, and made excellent recommendations to us. As we got further along in planning, it really felt like if catering does not run smoothly at a reception, it can really effect the entire experience and the Purple Onion did not disappoint! Our wedding ran so smoothly and everything was timed perfectly. Our guests loved the menu we created from our tasting and we really appreciate how helpful Purple Onion was with all dietary restrictions. We had guests who were gluten free, vegetarian, and had shellfish allergies, and they were able to accommodate all of this so everyone enjoyed dinner. We are genuinely impressed with their food, service, and planning! -

We worked with Margaret to plan our wedding, from the start she was excited to work with us and extremely helpful! She answered all of our questions and did an excellent job planning everything out. The day of crew were superstars! They set up our rentals and all our decor, they made our venue look even more beautiful. The food was excellent and many of our guests commented on how delicious and impressive the dinner was. The service during dinner was superb, each of our guests were taken care of and everything was seamless. Purple Onion exceeded all of our expectations and made our special day really beautiful. -

Paige from Purple Onion was our point of contact for our wedding and she was so nice and helpful. On top of that, all of the food was so delicious! Many of our guests came up to us during the wedding and mentioned how the food was some of the best they've had at a wedding. Would highly recommend!! -

Purple Onion was so incredibly flexible when it came to helping us pick a menu and options within our budget. Even after me changing my mind a million times they still were so patient in building something perfect for us :) The food was incredible and we had a great variety for our guests. We got so many compliments on the dinner and late night tacos! Not to mention they were so attentive and doted on my husband and I all day. They kept our plates and glasses full and grabbed us anything we needed the entire night. They brought us appetizers during photos (so clutch) and got us drinks before the reception! I think if it hadn't have been for them we wouldn't have even gotten the change to eat. These guys are serious professionals and highly recommend booking with them :) -

THANK YOU Purple Onion for such an amazing night. You were amazing and everyone was raving about how much they loved the food and dessert (especially the Peppermint Ding Dongs!). Your team also deserves very special mention, they were on top of it all day/night and we really appreciate all of their hard work, their friendly demeanor and the way they went about their work without disrupting any of the festivities on-site.
A couple of key highlights/benefits to highlight:
1. Margaret Z. is a top notch professional - immediately upon meeting with her, we were blown away by her preparedness and attention to detail
2. Out of the 10+ vendors we evaluated, Purple Onion bubbled to the top on quality of food. Many were close, but from Passed hor d'ourves, to salads, to entrees all the way through dessert, the food was fantastic. I also loved how they had seasonal and local options available.
3. Flexibility - Purple Onion facilitated ~10 meals for our guests who had food restrictions and for kids, and brought them special plated meals (we had buffet stations for other guests)
4. Great thought partner - we obviously have little experience with getting married/weddings, Margaret and team were great thought partners as we brainstormed how to approach our big day and set up
5. Lastly - day of, staff was just amazing. You will not find much better in the business, if at all!
We would recommend Purple Onion to all of our friends and family who is considering a catered event/wedding moving forward!

Purple Onion was a PERFECT fit for our big day this fall. The food- both in taste and presentation- was amazing, the staff was wonderful, and they were so accommodating to our needs. Paige is seriously the best out there- she worked with me the whole time answering questions and helping with different ideas I came up with, all while keeping me calm and on track! Would 100% recommend them for your wedding! -

I feel like it's so rare that everything about an event turns out exactly how you had hoped/planned, and Margaret and the rest of the Purple Onion staff were so integral in making that happen. Margaret was so involved during the planning and helped us create our vision. We are both so grateful for all of their help throughout the process and could not have done it without them. The food was great (and was so much better than what I've normally had at any wedding) and we are so glad we decided to use Purple Onion for our wedding.
