Best. Food. Ever! We had a brunch buffet and it was amazing 🤩 all of our guests were complimenting how good everything was and how professional the servers were. During our photos after the ceremony, we had servers coming up to us with platters and plates of food from the cocktail hour so we could also eat. -

Carla helped us to plan everything, and created the perfect menu handling different dietary restrictions. My husband and I are both vegan, with a lot of vegetarian friends, and they were able to make our own recipe for vegan ravioli! The food was amazing, and servers were great. -

Pumpernickle Pickle recently catered our wedding on my grandparent’s property. They were amazing to work with throughout the whole wedding process. They were responsive, flexible, professional, and organized. The food was amazing and all of our guests loved it! They also created beautiful place settings with unique China that they provide. We are so thankful for the service that they provided and cannot recommend them enough! -

Everyone at Pumpernickle was incredible at making our wedding experience the best it could be. Communication was on point the entire planning process and not one guest had anything but compliments on the food. Set up and break down was all taken care of and they even brought food up to the wedding party while we were taking pictures. They went above and beyond in every sense of the phrase. Thank you all for every ounce of effort you put in for us. Love, Mr. & Mrs. Hunt.
P.s. a couple of our favorites were the chimichuri sauce, THE MUSHROOMS, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, chickem, steak, veggies, the salad (specifically the olives), and the corn muffins! So basically the entire menu. -

Holy cow, I have never been so full in my life. The food was INSANE. Everyone was so excited about it and ate all night! From the first interaction, Pumpernickel Pickle was so sweet and fun to work with, created a personalized and incredible menu, and made us feel so well taken care of. They made the space so beautiful and were just so great! They also made a special plate for one of my guests with restrictions last minute with a smile on their face. A dream to work with. -

The search for a caterer for our wedding (approx. 125 guests) was a daunting task, as we didn't want to blow our budget on food but also wanted to have a nice meal. Carla and her team at Pumpernickel Pickle worked diligently with us to customize our menu within our budget. They were very attentive to details, and easy to communicate with. We even had last minute adjustments to our guest count and it wasn't a problem. On the day of, the food was just as amazing as it was during our tasting. The staff were very friendly and helpful during the entire reception (we also had a dessert bar). I would 10/10 recommend Pumpernickel Pickle for your catering needs! -

Pumpernickel Pickle was absolutely amazing. They provided the most amazing menu and all of my guests commented on how wonderful it tasted. The service to the bride and the groom was also astounding. We didnt have to lift a finger for more refills or food. -

Pumpernickel Pickle did a fantastic job with the catering for our wedding, and our guests can't stop raving to us about (a) how good the food was and (b) how courteous the staff was at their beck and call. They were a joy to work with, and their twist on traditional food fare was a welcome appreciation in southwest Virginia. There's absolutely nothing we would change about our catering, and we would happily recommend PP to our friends and family! -

Let's face it--your caterer is probably one of your most, if not the most important vendor of your day. At the end of the day, your guests will remember if they liked the food or not. Cue the pressure to find the best caterer--and you'll find it with Pumpernickel Pickle. I fell in love with Pumpernickel Pickle after the first email--they were honest and upfront with prices and really worked with me to have exactly the menu I wanted. They are creative with their dishes (um hellooooo maple donut and chicken bites and my custom Harry Potter dessert bar complete with butterbeer shooters) and their food is DELICIOUS. Seriously, my now mother-in-law is probably the pickiest person on this planet and a food snob and she COMPLIMENTED me on the caterer. Everyone said the food was tasty and they were impressed with the staff who were super friendly and professional. I've been engaged for over two years (thanks grad school) and anytime a little question popped in my head, PP was quick to respond and never made me feel like a bugaboo. They helped me figure out logistics like how much alcohol to buy to how to figure out napkins (because apparently napkins are something you care about when you plan weddings). I can't sing their praises enough, shoutout to Sarah Pendleton, one of the owners for being so attentive, she's one of the best people on the planet and with her you'll be in great hands. So stop your search and book PP--you won't regret it. -

Pumpernickel Pickle was an excellent caterer for our wedding. The food was very tasty, especially the mac-n-cheese! They were prompt in their responses and accommodating throughout. Their prices were quite reasonable and they had numerous delicious options to select. The display and service was very nice and professional during the reception. -

We received so many compliments from our guests on the food at the reception. We did a tasting in advance to choose the appetizers and main course, and they were very accommodating to the small changes we requested to make the reception meal everything we wanted it to be. Their serving staff was very attentive to the guests all night, making sure that everyone had what they wanted. We are so grateful for all their hard work and delicious food, and we are looking forward to having them cater my sister’s wedding in a few months! -

Micaela Sent on 12/11/2017Pumpernickel Pickle is amazing! My husband and I used them for our wedding in October and both the food and the service were phenomenal! Throughout the planning process Sarah and Willie were very flexible to work with. They replied quickly to any questions we had and went out of their way to accommodate us. My husband was unable to make it to our tasting, but Sarah and Willie were kind enough to send some home with me so he could taste it for himself. Our guests LOVED the food. That is one thing everyone raved about and that we repeatedly heard from every guest we spoke to after the wedding. The wait staff was so nice and very professional. They did an excellent job keeping everything up and making sure everything looked nice! Overall we were very pleased with the service and would definitely recommend them to everyone! -

They were great to work with as well as provided excellent food and service the evening of the event. They were quick with a response and followup based upon small changes that my daughter requested. They were also very accommodating for a few guests that had dietary restrictions by providing options for them as well. Highly recommend them!! -

Megan Sent on 02/21/2018We chose Pumpernickel Pickle as our caterer for our wedding reception after having a wonderful experience with them during our tasting. My parents also attended a wedding with them as the caterer and were extremely impressed with their presentation, quality of food, and professionalism. Pumpernickel Pickle was willing to work with us to make the dinner at the reception everything we wanted. The appetizers were fabulous, and our wedding guests raved about many of the apps including the chicken and maple donut bites as well as the crab cake slider. The dinner itself was presented in a beautiful display and the food was fresh and hot! We chose a dessert bar and were thrilled with how each dessert turned out. Our guests appreciated being able to choose their own dessert. Pumpernickel Pickle also made a small cutting cake for us that was delicious! Overall, we were very impressed with their presentation and professionalism throughout the entire process.

Pumpernickel Pickle did an amazing job with our wedding. Sarah was so sweet and helpful and the food was DELICIOUS (I recommend the salmon and brussel sprouts!!)! We did family style and it was a great way to get conversation going at all the tables. It was also great because PP helped us coordinate the rentals for what they did not provide and it made things super easy on us!
All of the staff was friendly and professional and it truly made for an amazing wedding! -

We loved the dynamic and unique menu options from Pumpernickel Pickle. On the day of the wedding, the staff thoughtfully made separate plates of the appetizers for us since we were taking photos during happy hour. We purchased our own alcohol but utilized their bar tender service. Our bar tender was amazing! The team also had our dinner plates filled and waiting for us at our table so we could relax and enjoy as our guests cycled through the buffet line. I continue to receive compliments on how delicious the food was at our wedding. -
User3255345 Sent on 10/15/2017Sarah, Amina and the "Pickle team" catered my daughters Oct 2017 wedding at the Columns in McGaheysville, Va. They traveled from Roanoke on the wedding day, brought all the food, servers, bartenders, vintage dishes and furniture and helped to transform the event hall into a magical place for the wedding reception. The food was delicious... kebobs grilled on site with dipping sauces, pork loin with apple chutney, maple mashed sweet potatoes, salad, roasted vegetables, and mushroom risotto. The staff were professional, friendly and helpful. So many compliments from guests...Terrific group. Highly recommend Pumpernickel Pickle Catering! -

Pumpernickel Pickle provided very tasty food for our wedding, and our guests had a lot of positive things to say about the menu. The chicken and waffle donuts and the pimento cheese balls were especially popular, and I would definitely recommend including them. Their pricing was also reasonable for the quality and variety offered.
There were a few points during the planning process that took a little extra coordination, but once everything was set, the team delivered what we expected. On the wedding day, the food was fresh, well prepared, and a nice part of the overall experience.

We were so excited to work with Pumpernickel Pickle but several issues during our reception were disappointing. Apparently, many staff members called out sick on our wedding weekend. This meant we were 5 staff members short for our reception. No one gave us any sort of heads up about this.
I suspected we were in trouble when we ran out of food so early in the cocktail hour. Dinner service started fine but I noticed our wedding coordinator clearing salad plates which was unusual. Because of the staffing issue, Pumpernickel Pickle couldn't keep up with clearing tables. We also ran out of protein before all the guests were served.
They said some tables went back for seconds before everyone was fed but there's no way that accounted for 20-22 people not receiving entrees. They also didn't do anything to solve the problem--the mother of the bride had to call a local restaurant and order 24 steaks for carryout.
I hope this was an off night for them but if want to work with them, I suggest you asked about staffing and what the plan is if the onsite staff is less than expected. I would also ask them to have staff serving the buffet. Our final count to them was 13 people higher actual people onsite, so we were never going to have enough food.
While we did receive a refund from them due to the issues, it cannot make up for the fact that we ran out food and they didn't do anything to help onsite.
