Judy and Vanda were amazing!! I originally went with On Location Bridal in part because I had read several reviews that Judy works with your naturally curly hair - and that was definitely true! Judy and Vanda conquered both hair and makeup for me and my bridesmaids on my wedding day and did a phenomenal job. They listened to our requests (and had ideas and expertise of their own) and everything came out SO beautifully. It's clear that they are both so experienced and professional. They were a pleasure to work with the entire process - in the booking stages, the hair and makeup trial (really appreciate Judy getting both her and Vanda there for the trial since I had expressed interest in that) and the wedding day. They were easy to talk to and laid back, making for a calming and fun getting ready process on wedding morning. Vanda helped out one of my bridesmaids who chose to do her own makeup and was struggling, which was much appreciated. Loved my experience working with them and would recommend them to anyone for their wedding day hair and makeup! -

My partner (he/they) and I (she/her) hired Judy (& crew) to do the hair & makeup for our entire wedding party and ourselves. 8 people total, and every possible gender expression imaginable. She was flexible and understanding and worked with each person respectfully and did a great job on everyone. During the consultation process she also asked in the most tactful way possible if anyone needed to cover stubble with makeup - while the answer was no, I really appreciate that she was thinking ahead to ensuring a positive expression of folk's gender identity.
She was also great with my mostly hopeless self where I was like - I never do anything fancy with my hair, I'm going for roughly forest goddess vibe. She picked up what I was getting at even with my limited guidance or ideas and did an excellent job. -

Judy and her assistant really made my wedding wonderful.
I had both a trial and wedding day hair/makeup. We also had 3 other services on my bridesmaids and mother in law. All of our hair and makeup were beautifully done and held up all evening. I couldn’t have imagined I would feel that pretty but Judy sure did make me feel like a princess. -

I had such a great and fun time working with Judy! She took the time to travel for my hair trial. She took her time to find the perfect spot for my bird cage veil! We talked about what I had in mind and she went with it - incorporating my personality into my hairstyle. On the day itself, she was so punctual, waiting for our arrival, ready to go!
She took the time and effort to curl my hair in small bunches so they last longer. You can tell she is passionate and takes pride in her work! She did such a great job with my bridesmaid’s curly hair - she could not stop raving about it and how Judy works magic with curly hair. Judy had such a calming and fun presence in our bridal suite. I felt so beautiful; truly like a bride. Thank you so much for my perfect day.

"Organic" was the word I came up with when my wedding planner asked me what I was looking for in a makeup artist, and I couldn't have been more lucky when she recommended Judy and her team. Judy has a special talent for highlighting your best features and enhancing your natural beauty in a way that looks fabulous in photography without looking overdone in real life. She also has a gift for artfully improvising on the fly - we bought some crystal pins that we didn't think we would ultimately use for my hair, and Judy turned them into a stunning arrangement around my bun. She and her team worked very efficiently on the day of our wedding, and kept my mother, bridesmaids, and I laughing throughout the whole morning. Judy was such a delight to work with, and I couldn't recommend her more! -

I have naturally textured, curly hair and it was important to me to wear it curly on my wedding day to feel like myself. Judy and I discussed this in our first interaction and she completely understood the assignment. I've had my hair styled for many formal events (to varying degrees of success) but Judy completely knocked it out of the park. Both at my hair trial and day-of she worked to create the best possible version of my curls, while still keeping the "me" feeling intact and battling Virginia humidy! Her and her assistant, Vanda, were joys to have around while we all got ready. They expertly did hair for 3 bridesmaids and 2 moms, well in time for pictures. On a personal note, Judy+team are uniquely kind people. I felt completely at ease around them, and they brought so much fun to the day. If you're on the fence, let this be your sign to book Judy! -

Simply wonderful
Working with Judy was such a wonderful experience. No words can possibly express how much I loved working with Judy, how excellent her work was, and how easy, enjoyable, and stress-free she made my experience. As a person who is also in the service industry, I can only hope my clients receive half the service that Judy gave to me; this is the highest compliment that I could possibly give.
I did a hair and makeup trial, which was so much fun and helped to finalize some of the touches that I wanted to have the day of. It lasted about 3 hours, and we had the opportunity to talk through the look I was hoping to achieve as well as give it a try to variations to see if I liked something different a bit better. On the day of, my finished touches were so beyond what I could have expected. As an older bride (late 30s), I had a lot of anxiety about my appearance and hoped to look a bit like my younger self (but also appropriate!). I really felt like Judy helped me to look SO beautiful, exactly as I had always hoped to look on my wedding day. I also had my bridesmaids and mother get their hair and makeup done (with the help of Judy's assistant Vanda), and we all looked spectacular. They arrived on site, and were so well organized. They built in additional time in case we wanted to add additional services (a couple of my bridesmaids got spray on makeup last minute), and still finished well within our budgeted time without sacrificing ANY quality.
I just cannot say enough about my experience with Judy. I am so thoroughly pleased, and I would hire her again a million times over (and probably will for upcoming weddings of family members). I absolutely loved working with her. Thank you, Judy, so so much!!!!!!! -

Dream Team!
Judy and her team were an absolute pleasure to work with! Typical for a bride in 2020, we had to reschedule our celebration multiple times and Judy stuck with us along the way as we navigated through the uncharted waters of planning a wedding during a global pandemic. Ultimately, we rescheduled our celebration for June 2021 and had a large bridal party of 11 bridesmaids who all required hair and makeup. Judy and her team were incredibly efficient and did an amazing job on everyone’s hair and makeup. Everyone was very pleased with their glam for the big day and everyone’s lasted throughout the night! Judy and her team kept everyone’s looks natural while still looking amazing in photos. I would absolutely recommend Judy and her team for your big day - especially if you have a larger bridal party! -

Jeanne was a fantastic makeup artist and so, so sweet. She did my hair and makeup for both my rehearsal and wedding day last weekend, dealing with my twitching eyes with ease and also offering to do my sister’s hair and makeup for free for the rehearsal. She was such a pleasant person that my sister, mom, and other bridesmaids all commented on how wonderful she and her assistant did, particularly in their makeup blending. We looked flawless, yet natural. Jeanne is a dream to work with - I highly recommend her! -

Judy and Vanda were great makeup and hair artists. I did a trial makeup and hair run for my wedding day that had to be rescheduled at the last minute and Judy was very accommodating to fit me in on a Sunday in early Phase 2 of Virginia for COVID. Judy and I were able to fine tune what I wanted to look like on the big day, so I didn't need to worry about it the day-of. My bridesmaids got express hair done by Judy and express makeup done by Vanda. They did an excellent and efficient job prepping us for the big day. -

Judy was great from the hair/makeup trial to the actual day of the wedding. During my trial, she listened to what I was interested in, took feedback, and worked with me to nail exactly what I was going for. Then, on the wedding day, my hair and makeup came out even better than expected.
Her team was kind, relaxed, and professional from set up to finish on the day of the wedding. Leading up to the wedding day, Judy sent a questionnaire to clarify who was getting what done, and to plan a timeline for the day. She and her team arrived on site with plenty of time to set up. Her lead stylist, Vanda, was also a gem to work with. Her team did hair and makeup for myself along with 5 bridesmaids, my mother, and mother-in-law. They were organized, and every single person loved their finished looks. As the bride, I did not feel rushed or stressed at all, and it was clear that Judy and her team all had high quality standards they hold themselves to. I’m so happy with our looks in the photos, and would highly recommend her to every bride in the area. -

Judy has been in the business for decades, and that is clear when you are with her. I think back to the morning of my wedding day, how stressed I was & worried about how it would all come together. The one thing I didn't have to worry about was how good my hair & makeup would look. When it comes to those things Judy exudes confidence that's contagious. I started to feel calmer and calmer just taking in the moment of the occasion while under her care. I sat in that chair and my excitement overtook my anxiety. I'm so thankful I went with Judy, she has helped many many brides feel confident as they walk down the aisle, and truly enjoy one of the most joyous days of their lives. Judy and her team were wonderful! They arrived on time and jumped right into organized action. Before the big day, Judy set up a schedule to ensure every girl knew of her time slot for hair and make-up, making it easy and smooth! I was back and forth with what I wanted for my hair - a "game time" decision. Judy made my dream of the 'party ponytail' a reality! I received so many compliments on my hair and makeup. Judy is the ABSOLUTE BOMB. I knew I had come to the right place when I spent most of my hair/makeup trial laughing. Judy understood my vision completely, and she designed a look that went perfectly with my day. She went above and beyond with her creativity and professionalism. I couldn't have even imagined what she did with my hair and how great it would look! Judy also brought another stylist the day of, and the two of them breezed through the hair and make up for me, my bridesmaids, and the moms! They kept the mood light, and everyone was thrilled with the results. I have never been a part of a wedding party where EVERYONE loved their hair and makeup, so this is a huge feat. If you're getting married in the Charlottesville area, book Judy Hayward! She is the sweetest and most talented hair and make-up artist, and made me and my bridesmaids feel beyond stunning for my wedding this fall. Judy came all the way down to DC -- a 2.5 hour drive -- to do my hair/makeup trial months before the wedding, carefully listening to every detail I wanted and talking me through the whole process. When I decided to change hairstyles a week before my big day, she didn't complain at all and constructed a beautiful updo on the day-of. Vanda, her assistant, handled all of our makeup and did a wonderful job making it look natural. They were so efficient, too! Got 6 bridesmaids and me all done up in less than 3 hours, and it didn't feel rushed at all. I can't recommend On Location bridal enough! -

Judy and Vanda were a dream to work with. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience with getting my hair and makeup done for my wedding. Judy and Vanda came to my Airbnb the day of for a few hours before we packed up and headed to the venue. There was a small charge for that but it made the experience more fun, getting ready at the venue. Both women are so talented and truly know what they’re doing. I wish I could have Judy do my hair and makeup everyday! -

Abbie Sent on 10/08/2018Judy and Vanda were so great on my wedding day. We got married on the hottest day in June and I opted to have part of my hair down and curled. My style lasted all day and was still cute late at night, even though the humidity had wreaked havoc on it. Plus, my entire wedding was outside and I was sweating alllll day (heat index was 103) and my makeup still looked perfect at night's end. I have no idea how Judy did that. My bridesmaids all looked totally adorable and it was great that they didn't have to bring in photos for inspiration, Judy and Vanda just got to work giving each girl a unique up-do that somehow totally matched their own style. Vanda was also super sweet with my mother-in-law who is rather picky. She initially just wanted her hair done, but then felt so comfortable with Vanda she also had her do her makeup - high praise, believe me. Judy and Vanda were such a calming presence on my day and felt like part of the gang. I really loved having them around and would absolutely recommend them!!

We had a laugh over how disobedient my hair was being at the trial, it took a few goes but we got there and she was SO patient with me! On the day, Judy was co-operative, attentive and so much fun. She styled my Mum who looked stunning, my Maid of Honor who's hair went from frizz to hair model worthy, and mine was just what I had in mind when I pictured my bridal hairdo. Judy is a lovely lady, and a wonderful hair stylist and I highly recommend her for your big day. -

Denise Sent on 10/31/2017I got married at Bold Rock Cider in Nellysford on 9/16/17 but the wedding party got ready at the Boggie Nights Manor right down the street (Air bnb in Afton). Judy and her team were exceptional on my wedding day. They were on time and set up in a bedroom upstairs and rearranged things the way they needed to get the styling going. They took charge and were on a schedule, which I appreciated a lot!
There were 2 mothers, 4 bridesmaids, and me (the bride) who needed hair done. From 1-4 they worked their magic and made sure all of us were happy and presentable with fabulous hair. Months before the wedding I had 2 trails with Judy. The second one just gave Judy more time to understand my hair, it's very fine with a mind of its own and isn't easy to work with at all.
On my wedding day my hair was more than perfect, it was so beautiful, i never imagined that it would look as good as it did. My makeup was also flawless, it was simple and resembled me. This was important to me because I normally don't wear a lot of makeup and didn't want to look like someone I wasn't on my wedding day. Judy did a fabulous job!
I couldn't ask for a better hair stylist & makeup artist on my wedding day; they went above and beyond and made me feel beautiful on my wedding day. They were kind, patient, and creative! If you need an on location service in C-ville area then Judy is your lady! Judy is quick to reply to emails; don't hesitate to contact her!

After a horrible hair trial at another salon I was extremely nervous about finding a new hair and makeup stylist. I lived out of state and knew that I would not be able to have time to do another trial. Communicating with Judy was so easy. She and her assistant Vanda arrived at the wedding venue promptly. When I explained how I envisioned my hair she immediately got it, and I was at ease. My hair looked perfect and it held up all night! I have never felt more beautiful! Judy also did the express hair for my three bridesmaids. The only direction I gave was for their hair to be up. She created three beautiful unique hair designs that complemented each bridesmaid. Vanda did the makeup for the entire group. Again, I gave very little direction and the outcome was fantastic. She achieved the perfect balance of looking natural while still being bridal. The way Judy and Vanda worked together was quite impressive at times it seemed like they were able to communicate with each other without using words! I wish they could do my hair and makeup all the time! My husband even commented that he loved my hair so much that he wishes I would wear it like that to all events! I would highly recommend on location bridal to any bride looking for talented and professional artists. Thank you Judy and Vanda! -

Chrissy Sent on 12/27/2011Planning a destination wedding and only visiting Charlottesville four times during the wedding planning process was a bit of a challenge. Towards the beginning of the wedding process I emailed various on site hair/makeup artists. Judy was the only person who not only wrote back but when she didn't hear back again she emailed me again. She was also the only person who was enthusiastic to work with me and make me beautiful on such a big day. We communicated through email and she shared a hair idea and was able to work with my budget. When I drove down to Charlottesville I had my hair trial at the salon she works at, Bristles. She made my hair look fabulous with my head piece and suggested a lipstick for me to purchase for touch ups for the wedding.
The day of the wedding Judy came super early (7 AM) and transformed me into a gorgeous bride. My hair and makeup looked natural but still elegant like I wanted. I know that some brides probably would not want to pay what her prices are but if you want someone coming to you and have the quality Judy offers, it is worth it. -

Judy and her team were fabulous to work with from start to finish. I'd recommend Judy to any bride, without reservation.
Judy was a pleasure to work with in the planning portion of the wedding process. When we were having difficulty with schedules, she came to my condo in DC all the way from Charlottesville for the hair/makeup trial. During the trial, I felt in safe hands with Judy. She took her time and tried several different hair styles to make sure that we were both confident in our choices.
At the wedding itself, Judy, Vanda, and the team were on-time, professional, and produced amazing results. Each one of my bridesmaids and attendants (who aren't always the easiest to please) were so happy with her hair and makeup. It was such a relief to me to not have to worry about a bridesmaid not being happy! With Judy, you don't have to worry about only the bridesmaids/attendants who are serviced by Judy getting top-notch talent. Vanda and the rest of Judy's team did just as superb work!
