If you are looking for the best place to host your event in Newport News, you found it! I am a professional DJ and I work a few weddings and birthday party events here every year and already have some lined up for next year. Before this year is over, I wanted to take the time and share with all review readers how grateful I am for the opportunity to be able to collaborate with such a great venue and the talented team that makes magic happen every time I am there. Mrs. Simone and their entire team were the best! They were very customer service oriented, and went above and beyond to ensure my wedding day was absolutely perfect. The room service, food and food service was great, the day of coordination and timelines were superb! They will not disappoint!-

Best staff ever
I planned my wedding in 2 weeks so needless to say I was all over the place changed venues 3 times and ended up here. Amanda was very patient with me and my husband. Also very helpful and thorough. The catering staff and wedding staff was great. If I was to do it again I would choose this place hands down-

Magical Wedding Venue
We recently hosted our daughter's wedding with the Marriott and could not have been more pleased. The Rotunda was gorgeous! The staff was professional and followed through on everything that we needed.
Amanda, the catering and event coordinator was exceptional to work with and made the whole experience a joy. Our out of town guests stayed there, as well. It was comfortable and convenient! No detail was over-looked. We highly recommend the Rotunda for a classy beautiful wedding. Newport News City Center is a great location, too! -

A Magical Place
From the moment we met Cherrelle and saw the Marriott, I knew this is where I wanted to get married. The Rotunda had an intimate setting with a breathtaking staircase. The ballroom was perfect for our group. The set up was professional and crisp. Cherrelle and her team were always available to answer my questions either via phone or email. They made sure that every detail was documented and executed to perfection. The food was amazing. The buffet met everyone's approval and my guests are still talking about all the flavors and dishes that were prepared. Prince the bartender was outstanding, even my mom got a picture with him. The whole venue was exactly what we wanted -- elegant. They even made up breakfast coupons for our guests so that we could enjoy a buffet in the morning before everyone left to travel home. The Marriott is definitely the perfect place to hold a wedding .... Cherrelle and her team deserve more than 5 stars. -

So Worth It
I cannot tell you enough how much we are so happy that we chose this location to have our wedding and our reception. It was worth every dime that we spent because of the level of care and service that this staff put into our wedding. They were so kind and very attentive. We felt like royalty. We have so many good memories to share for a long time. -

My wedding and reception were both held at this venue. From beginning to end, it was a great experience! Cherrelle is awesome!! She was very hands on throughout the process. On the day of, there were absolutely no issues, it was perfect!! The entire team was accommodating and the food was delicious. We received nothing but positive feedback from our guests. It was truly an amazing day, I think that is a result of having a good team of invidials to work with! I definitely recommend using this venue! -

Weddings are stressful especially on a Holiday weekend. My daughter had a fantastic Wedding.
Cherrelle, Renee and Simone worked their magic and made this a successful event. They are professional and take the stress out of this affair. I am grateful for their services and would book another event through them . We booked the Rotunda and a banquet area. The Rotunda was breathtaking!

Brianna Booth was simply amazing to work with, she was extremely organized and professional. Brianna was helpful through out the process. she always responsed with a sense of urgency to any question we presented to her. Brianna made me feel as if I was the only bride she working with. The red coat captain was a wonderful addition to our experience with Brianna and the Marriott. She was attentive during our rehearsal dinner and reception. My family commented after the wedding, " The red coat captain was the extra touch to a perfect day". I would say to any bride that is looking for the once in a lifetime moment, contact the Marriott and request Brianna Booth as your event planner. You won't be disappointed , she is a talented individual or goes above and beyond to make your special day everything you drea med it would be.

My husband and I got married at the Marriott at City Center on May 6th and it was absolutely amazing. We had a late change of venue and was on pens and needles looking for a new location that could accommodate 200+ guest and possibly provide lodging. From our initial contact with Brianna, we knew and felt that we were in good hands. She was very responsive and detailed oriented. Words truly cannot describe the service Brianna provided.
Our ceremony was held in the Rotunda which provided an intimate setting. I really loved the double staircase. We also held our reception the Pearl Ballroom. Our guest loved the buffet and spoke highly of the staff and hotel. The room was nice and spacious for 200 guest. Everyone was extremely nice and attentive to not only our needs but also our guest.
The location is ideal with shops, restaurants, and a movie theater within walking distance. I would definitely recommend hosting a wedding or any other type of event here.

Marriott is very nice....kinda pricey but overall nice. For the amount of money you pay nothing really comes with it but food and set-up/clean-up.
However, Brianna and her team are amazing!! I love working with her she is always on point and contacts you back with the information that you need. I would recommend the Marriott in Newport News if you are looking for a venue to host your event! -

Our sincerest thanks to the Catering and Event Staff of the Newport News Marriott at City Center for our daughter's wonderful wedding March 11, 2017. It was such fun; everyone had a great time!
The service was beyond excellent and accommodating, the food was fantastic and plentiful, the venue beautiful and spacious. We couldn't have had a more positive experience.
From the Catering Sales Manager who worked with us from the beginning and at every step along the way; to the bartender who could not have been more personable and competent; to the Buffet Manager who was ever-present and caring; to the staff who served us hors d'oeuvres, kept the water glasses filled, cleared plates, and just took such exquisite care of us.
The staff who stayed with us for the evening were not just observant they anticipated our every need. They worked quietly and efficiently, there when needed - but never obtrusive.
The Catering and Event staff of the Newport News Marriott at City Center made our daughter’s and new son-in-law's wedding day theirs! --- just the way they envisioned it to be.

I would like to thank Brianna for everything that she's done for me with regards to making sure that my wedding went smoothly. From January 2016 all the way until November 19, 2016, Brianna responded to each and every one of my emails, consisting of thousands of questions, within the same hour or day. I never felt like I was being ignored or that I was bothersome to her. We had a wonderful experience at our son and daughter in laws wedding celebration. We thought the food was delicious and plentiful.
The only thing I would have done differently was the cocktail hour. I was not in on the selection or amount but there was not a large enough selection. Also the area where the cocktail hours was held was tight and we had to walk through another wedding to get to ours. Other than that everything was perfect. thank you -

From the first time I picked up the phone and called Marriott at Center Brianna until now (even after the event is over), everyone and everything was superb. From the hotel rooms, to the scrumptious food, to the set up of the room, there is not one complaint I can make. Brianna far exceeded my expectations. Newport News City Center Marriott” - Our Daughters Ceremony and Reception was held at this beautiful location September 10,2016. Our event cordanators Brianna Booth was personal, knowledgeable, and hands on during our year and a half planning process. Marriott Newport News was an amazing venue for our son's rehearsal dinner party for 95 people Brianna was a pleasure to work with and the hotel staff was so warm and welcoming. Everything was perfect from start to finish. We also hosted a brunch on Sunday morning and everything was perfect there also. I would highly recommend using this venue for any activities relating to a wedding. We couldn't be more pleased with Brianna and the services of this hotel. -

A very special thanks to the wonderful staff at Marriott (Sam at the front desk, Richie in Engineering and the banquet staff: Matt (Captain), Crescent (Server), James (Server)) for making our wedding a flawless event and none of it could have been possible without the compassion and patience of Brianna. Due to rain, Brianna was able to pull everything together in 3 days in between all of the calls from the bride, groom AND bridal party. Everything was perfect!

Newport News Marriott at City Center created a Wedding Reception that dreams are made of. We have wanted to write a review for several months now, but with my father waiting for a heart transplant and having to stay in the hospital for long periods of time, it has been hard. Although he is still waiting, we didn’t want to miss the opportunity to say how amazing it was working with catering (Brianna Booth, Lisa Martello, Alison McPherson, and Georgia Carles) and serving staffs. We had the reception in the Grand Ballroom (Salon I and II) and the room turned out gorgeous. The attention to detail from everyone involved was second to none. The catering staff was with us each step of the way and whenever we had concerns or changes they were very responsive to them. Everyone was so friendly and caring, and the serving staff was on top of everything from making sure everything was in place, to making sure I was able to enjoy all the wonderful food. For the reception we had a brunch that included breakfast and lunch items and two omelet stations that our guests enjoyed so much and the food was delicious. We also opted to stay in the honeymoon suite which was a great decision, we were surprised to find chocolate cover strawberries, champagne, food left over from the reception, and a note from the staff waiting in the room for us. During the process of looking for a reception venue we visited several locations and kept coming back to the Marriott. To this day we don’t regret our choice and this decision was reinforced by our guest still talking about how beautiful everything was. We would proudly recommend Newport News Marriott at City Center to anyone. -

The Marriott was the PERFECT venue for our wedding reception! The staff was wonderful and exceeded all of our expectations. They went above and beyond to make sure that our day was perfect. Brianna was absolutely amazing. She made the wedding process in dealing with the hotel so much easier. She always responded to me in a timely manner and granted any request, even those last minute ones, without any hesitation. She is super friendly and relatable. After looking around for quite some time, I was blessed to find Brianna. My wedding was a complete success, not one thing went wrong, everyone was commenting on how great the food was! The atmosphere was great, the servers during dinner were very accomodating and friendly. Brianna made sure everything was just the way I wanted it. Most importantly I was completely satisfied!! My husband and I got married at the Marriott at City Center Newport News on 27 September 2015 and were blown away by this venue. Our coordinator was Brianna Booth, and she was absolutely amazing! She was very responsive via email and phone and also very patient in answering any questions that we had. She was there for us every step of the way, even on our wedding day she made sure that everything had been taken care of. During our reception, each and every member of our waitstaff provided our guests with top notch service. All of our guests raved about how incredible the food and service was. My husband and I always had hot food and a full beverage on our table when we returned from greeting guests. We were provided everything we needed to make our day go off without a hitch. The fountains outside also provided a beautiful backdrop in all of our photos. I would definitely recommend the Marriott to anyone that is looking for a wedding venue. -

My HUSBAND and I just had our wedding this past Sunday at the Marriott City Center and it was wonderful!! Working with Brianna Booth was an absolute pleasure. She was always very prompt in responding back toy emails and even kept me calm when I began to feel anxious. We used the Rotunda room for our ceremony with minimal decorations as we found this room to be beautiful on its own. We then decorated the Pearl ballroom for our reception!! The banquet staff was ridiculously professional and polite!! My family and friends loved them all!! They even helped us breakdown my centerpieces as I did them myself!! The food was excellent and the staff was great with boxing our top layer of our cake and handing out the slices!! Best experience ever so glad we chose them to have our special day!! -

My wife and I just had our reception at the Marriott at City Center this past Saturday. Everything from start to finish in the planning, working with the staff, day of and the following days have been incredible. It's the perfect place for a wedding reception if you are looking for somewhere with great service, food and ease of planning. We really only had to add a few small touches/decorations to all that they provided to make it great for our guests. Most of our guests stayed in the hotel which was also great. Working with Lisa and Brianna was great, and their day of catering staff was outstanding and made sure all guests were happy. We were very lucky to work with great people at the Marriott. I would recommend the Marriott at City Center to anybody for their event. -

The Marriott created the PERFECT setup for our wedding. We had about 100 guests and fit with space to spare in the Pearl Ballroom. Let me start by saying Alison was incredible! She went above and beyond and worked so well with our fantastic wedding planner (Michelle Amarillo Event Planning if you're curious!). The Marriott went above and beyond to accommodate our out of town family and any menu requests- the experience was incredible there and I would recommend it to anyone who prefers a traditional setting. We made use of the Rotunda space for our cocktail hour and moved to the ballroom for dinner and dancing. The service was exceptional and the bartenders were very professional- the food was delicious and all served in a timely manner- I've experience plated dinners where the last entrees came out an hour after the first ones but the Marriott managed to get everything out in a timely manner so our guests had plenty of time to enjoy themselves. Bonus- they must have experienced that brides and grooms don't often get to eat their meals so we had our own entree selections waiting for us in our room at the end of the night!
There ONLY two negative things I can say- and the first one I can't hold it against the Marriott because this was just two individuals out of a whole staff of amazing people- but the bartenders in the Rockefeller bar that evening were not very polite- my father wanted to get everyone together for a nightcap (mind you, this was about 20 people and the bar had not closed yet) and the bartenders reacted like this was an inconvenience...instead of the potential for a great tip! The second was that there was construction that we did not know about so it was a slightly unpleasant shock, but it did not interfere with anything!
Overall the experience at the Marriott was fantastic and I would recommend it! It was a great time, a classy space, and if I had to choose again I would still go with the Newport News Marriott at City Center -

We recently held our wedding reception at the Marriott, and it was wonderful! Alison, their wedding planner, was so easy to work with, even when we had a couple of last minute requests. The ballroom was beautiful, and the service was impeccable. Our guests had nothing but compliments about the food and service! Our out of town guests enjoyed strolling around the fountain and the City Center shops during their stay at the Marriott. Our wedding was an amazing experience, and Alison and the Marriott played a huge role in making it so memorable! Thank you!! -

My husband and I just got married a few days ago and had our reception at the Newport News Marriott. Alison and the entire staff was wonderful to work with. The communication between Marriott and I was great, they quickly responded to all my questions and concerns throughout the planning process. Marriott was very flexible and the service and staff was impeccable. We had staff dedicated to my husband and I the whole night which was wonderful.
Aside from the service, the venue was just magnificent. The City Center area is peaceful, clean and the view of the fountain was beautiful. We had the cocktail hour in the Rotunda and dinner in the Grand Ballroom.
Do not be afraid of the carpet! Once all the tables, decorations and lighting was up, you could not notice the carpet at all!! The quality and taste of the food delicious, we choose the NY Steak Strip and Lemon Herb Salmon with Shrimp.
I could not be any happier with Marriott- I definitely recommend the Marriott for future brides! -

Alison, at Marriott made my wedding reception for 350 people a breeze to plan. Alison was professional, responsive, flexible, creative, and calming (I was a nervous bride). The Marriott is a beautiful venue to host your reception - the rotunda and waterfall are scenic for wedding pictures. -

The event coordinator, Tiffany, was amazing. She was so helpful and responsive. If I said that I liked something or had an idea, she would make it work. Plus the rooms are beautiful. There is a rotunda room where we had our pre-reception that is round with a high ceiling and two staircases coming down where you can enter. This place is a bride's dream come true. -

Wedding at Marriott
The Marriott at City Center was wonderful for our wedding. Our coordinator, Cherrelle, made a special seating chart for our ceremony based off our request to use the acoustics of the rotunda. Initially, email responses were a bit delayed, but when we arrived on Friday for our wedding they were very accommodating & ready to go! Thank you so much to Cherrelle and her team for making our special day possible!-

It was a pleasure working with the Marriott Group Sales staff (Brianna & Lisa, caterer department, servers and bar tender. My family and guest having nothing but positive comments about our experience at the City Center Marriott location. We've been working together for a year to put my daughter's wedding together. The wedding was beautiful and we loved the hotel hospitality, food and professionalism. Let's say we received top notched southern hospitality at it's fullest.
We had about 19 guest stay at the hotel and they had nothing bad to say. The rooms were clean spacious and they all were able to sleep well. They loved the fact that the hotel was in waling distance to restaurants, movie theatre and clothing stores. -

We used the Pearl Ballroom as our reception venue for my wedding with the much needed help of Brianna Booth. She was great in quickly responding to all my e-mails, especially last minute, and making any changes that I requested. The layout of the room was set up perfectly for 100 guests, including the location of the buffet stations inside the room as well. The buffet stations we chose were: Carving Station (NY Strip), Mashed Potato Station, and Taco Bar. The guests raved about the mashed potato station and taco bar. Not your typical wedding food but they did it right, and it is what we love. Even free guacamole! There were a few mishaps but nothing major to the point where I freaked out over anything. Brianna made sure I was taken care of on my wedding night and double checked with me to make sure everything was perfect! I would definitely recommend her and use this venue again! -

The marrott provided a room for us to get our hair done. We informed them that we would have dryers and curlers set up like a mini salon. For this reason, they gave us a confrence room instead of a suite saying its perfect, most brides use this room. After having the dryers plugged in for 5 minutes the electricity went out. After telling Tiffany, she kind of shrugs and says "We can move you to the suite upstairs (where the groom and groomsmen were getting ready, IDIOT) We had to contact maintenance to fix the problem. For the reception guests were supposed to check in and get meal cards. When my mom asks where are the cards, Tiffany (event/wedding coordinator) says "ooohh..I forgot to print them. Scince both dishes are chicken we'll just serve everyone one dish until we run out. (In the invitations, I had given them the option of a chicken with mustard sauce wine sauce and a chicken with almond crust with crushed peppers) She took the situation so lightly as if it wasnt a big deal. People have selected what they wanted and your just going to ignore that! I was told thay my guests would have the option of champaign or sparkling cider for the toast. Instead, they only offered champaign which was very upseting because there were a few religous people who didnt drink, pregnant women, and children. She was so unprofessional. I also dont feel like i got what I paid for. If I had to do it again, I wouldnt have it at the Marriott. -
