Beautiful Venue, Amazing Food
We had a small wedding (50 guests) and there aren’t that many venues willing to have a small Saturday wedding. Mill on the River has two banquet rooms- our room had a max capacity of around 75, and the other room was for large weddings (don’t know max capacity, sorry!). There was another wedding in the big room that day (plus they are an actual restaurant and it was Saturday evening) but the team at the Mill made us feel like our wedding was the only thing happening that day!
The grounds are so beautifully landscaped and the reception room was so rustic and beautiful, I didn’t have to spend money on extra decorations- just the favors and flowers for the tables!
The food there is AMAZING! We went the buffet route so people could just pick and choose what they wanted, and then we had passed hors d'oeuvres and cheese/cracker table. Our guests absolutely raved about how good all the food was!
So we got the beautiful wedding we wanted, and our guests all left with happy bellies, so it was a win for everyone!Mill On The River's reply:

Go with it!!
I cannot stress enough how amazing The Mill on the River is. The grounds are gorgeous, the food is AMAZING and the staff is unlike any other group of people I’ve ever met. We had our wedding there last Saturday and literally every single aspect was perfect. Laura, Alexis and Shayla helped with all of the planning and day of and were beyond accommodating to all of our requests. We got the premiere package In the “rafter room” which included so much incredible food and was so reasonably priced compared to other venues I researched. I am so glad I found them, I will always have the most beautiful memories of a picture perfect day, not to mention a heck of a party. -

They made our day perfect.
We loved our experience with Mill on the River. The space is beautiful, the food was delicious (people can't stop talking about it), and the service was amazing. We had a last-minute delay, and the staff was exceptionally accommodating. Shayla and Laura are lovely to work with, and we are so glad we chose to work with them!Mill On The River's reply:

Romantic restaurant and wonderful wedding venue
I have had the pleasure of visiting this restaurant on several occasions this year as I prepared for my wedding in August - which was also here - and have always been treated very well with attentive service and the utmost professionalism.
The food on the restaurant side is amazing. It is worth the price and has shown to be consistent in quality, flavor, and appearance.
The wedding food, while understandably a tad lower in quality of flavor when compared to attending for the restaurant, was still wonderful and displayed well. Their packages for large parties is very reasonable and their bar service is #1!
I want to give a special thank you to Laura (the event coordinator), the managers, as well as the staff.
Laura was very responsive by both email and phone. She also listened and covered every one of our concerns - particularly our fear that we wouldn't get to eat! We always had a drink with her. She bustled me - even though I hadn't gotten a bustle - with safety pins. She saw us out to the end of the night as we were her last wedding that day. The day wouldn't have been so smooth without her!
The managers, in the times that Laura was unavailable, were also attentive in her stead with the same courtesies she offered. Although I did not have as much contact with them, their professionalism and care for their customers came through in their demeanor.
To the rest of the staff that helped us make every moment: thank you for being fun but still professional, listening to when we had a special occasion for eating there and the surprise treats, the prompt and attentive service, and keeping the fine dining atmosphere of the location!
For those who may be considering weddings or special events at this location, I highly recommend the Mill - they have shown me great integrity in my business with them and in my experience, their recommended vendors show the same. Our DJ, Sean Childs, photographers of Paul Nash Photography, and hotel shuttle offered by the Courtyard by Marriott-Hartford/Windsor operated so smoothly and have worked with the Mill for a long time and I just wanted to recommend them as well. The DJ and photographers are so creative and work well with each other and understood how to operate with Laura on a rough timeline. The room block was great and the shuttle knew where to go and was on time. Smoothest wedding ever!Mill On The River's reply:

Nothing but wonderful
As soon as we saw the Mill we knew we wanted to get married here. The setting is so cozy and inviting and it's so beautiful in the summer. There were 60 guests at our wedding and the room was perfect, with beautiful views of the waterfall. Everyone complimented us on the food and it was the best wedding they've ever been to. Laura was very helpful and did everything to make us happy. The wait staff is phenomenal and even the folks who set the room up used everything I brought and it all looked beautiful. The only thing I would change is you can see the parking lot from the gazebo and when we got pics walking to the gazebo there are cars in the background. Other than that, the place was awesome! -

Wedding Venue
I searched online for venues in the area and as soon as I found “The Mill on the River” it was the one. I toured other venues but nothing compared. The day we toured this venue I knew I had to book it. We cannot wait to get married at the venue! -

Mill on the river is our favorite restaurant so it only seemed fitting that we had our wedding there. It was absolutely perfect we had our ceremony under the gazebo and the reception upstairs. Everything was taken care of for us & our guests from start to finish. The food was as delicious as it is in the dining room! We couldn’t have asked for a better wedding venue!Mill On The River's reply:

We got married 8/12/17 and had a fabulous ceremony and reception. Before the wedding, during all of the booking/arranging/planning/etc., Laura and Alexa in the office were responsive, helpful, and professional. Laura handled our wedding closely. Whenever my groom and I had questions, they would never fail to answer them (even if during the wedding week, we called maybe a dozen times). Laura made sure that all of the tables, décor, and everything were perfection (nothing less). The ceremony was beautiful and everyone worked together to make it perfectly timed. Food was excellent, brought out promptly after the toasts, and everyone was well fed! Shout out to Cathleen, the bartender. She was a rock star all night. Would highly recommend! -

I have always loved Mill on the River and as soon as I got engaged I knew there was no other place I wanted to get married at. Mill was the only place we looked at because there was no competition in our eyes.
We met with Laura 2 years before our wedding date to start the process and she made every part of the planning process extremely easy.
In regards to setting up as a Bride all you need to do is bring them all your decorations, favors, etc. the day before the wedding telling them how you want it to look and they take care of the rest. Come wedding day I arrived before the ceremony and was able to see everything before anyone else just to make sure it was how I envisioned.
The staff at the reception were beyond amazing! They were all attentive and very nice to myself, my husband and my guests.
To any Bride who is considering this venue I recommend to look at the landscape and the pictures of previous weddings that have taken place there and you will see why so many previous couples have chose the Mill to be the start of a very important journey.Mill On The River's reply:

This was our 1st choice out of 5 that we looked at and I am so happy we went with The Mill! We originally considered it because we LOVE their food and the atmosphere there. We were concerned that the quality would suffer when doing such a large event but boy were we wrong- the food was superb and everyone is still raving about it. Laura the event manager at The Mill is great and very accommodating. The only things that could potentially be negatives were that the dance floor is situated in a way that's hard to see when people are sitting to eat or trying to watch the 1st dance and there was slightly poor communication day the day of the wedding which led to some confusion but truthfully those things were not enough to detract from us giving them a 5 star review. The Mill on the River is perfect place to start the rest of your lives. -

Laura at the Mill on the River was AMAZING!! She like everyone has a day off during the week & makes it known. She deserves more!! My wedding was perfect ! Absolutely perfect! There was a BIG snow storm on my wedding date & she made sure paths were clear so we could take photos in the snow! Loads of guests couldn't attend due to the snow so she had the staff pack up the extra meals. My day was absolutely amazing !! Food was awesome & venue was great!! This was a very small private wedding party and they were great working with us. The food was excellent everyone commented that it was the best wedding food they had ever. The only downfall was the cake. Seems it might have been made the day before and fresh out of a fridge. That was the single and only issue. Everything else was exceptional! -

The Mill on the River was recommended to us several years ago when we became engaged. It was always our number spot to get married in. Well, three years later - it was still the perfect venue. My husband and I got married in October and it was absolutely gorgeous. Laura and the staff were tremendous. Although I worried about the details (as any bride would) there was really no need. Everything was taken care of. The gazebo was beautiful and the River Room looked amazing. Our wedding went off without a hitch. It was the most magical and special day of our lives and we could not have done without everyone at the Mill. -

From the moment we saw Mill on The River we knew this would be our wedding venue. We had the ceremony and reception there. The gazebo out back is absolutely stunning for the ceremony and pictures. We had 110 people and we were in the "Rafters Room" upstairs. The service was tremendous and the food was out of this world. The wedding planner Laura was there to help us every step of the way and made everything nice and easy for us. Thank you Mill on The River for a great experience!! -

We had a beautiful ceremony and a gorgeous reception. We used the River room and it was absolutely stunning. All our guest loved the intimate setting and the view of the mill. The food was amazing, particularly the Butternut squash soup and the filet mignon! Laura was our event coordinator, she worked with us on every detail, took the time to explain things, and make sure we were happy. Mill on the River was absolutely wonderful! Let me give bulleted accolades:
1) They broke with their stated minimum guest numbers and allowed us to book a small, sunset ceremony on a Friday evening for about 35 guests, but always returned our calls promptly and never made us feel like they were doing us a favor. They don't do traditional 'tastings'...but instead they gave us a 75$ gift card to use in order to sample some app's and entree's, which was great.
2) We were in the smaller "River Room" (downstairs)...it was beautiful!!! The staff laid our our favors and table centerpieces very nicely, there were candles...everything was spot on!!!!
3) They were extremely nice and easy to work with. When we messed up one of my friend's meal choices, I was able to correct it by phone. A few fish entree's came out late, but that was because we had made additional, undetected mistakes in our seating charts, which MOTR staff corrected as fast as they could. The banquet manager came down and personally checked on us and apologized for the delays...which were our own fault anyways. The bartender was awesome, and came out from the bar to hand-deliver me a glass of straight whisky...my fav. drink. He was very personable and kept the atmosphere light with some really funny wedding jokes. The buffet captain was on top of everything. Helped us keep our flowers fresh by putting them in a refrigerator, was very flexible with the timing of meals and the ceremony, inasmuch as we were trying to get as close to sunset as possible for the actual ceremony.
4) The quality of the food cannot be overstated. The antipasto platters and cheese/cracker assortments were stunningly presented and absolutely delicious. The hot, butler passed hors d'ouveres were delicious, and brought out constantly up until we recessed for our ceremony. The appetizer course was a stuffed ravioli...delicous....the entree's were delicious, beef cooked perfectly, fish was very good (i tried my wife's...and i am usually not a fish lover).
5) The value was amazing. I can't believe what they asked for per head...with all this and open bar.
I highly reccomend this venue. I can't say enough good things about them. -

I fell in love with the Mill as soon as I visited, and I'm so glad I had my wedding here! I was looking for an affordable, all inclusive venue since I was planning from out of state on a budget, and the Mill beats everyone in the area for the value you get! They handled the ceremony, décor, food, bar, and cake for an extremely reasonable price without sacrificing quality at all.
Alexis worked with me throughout the planning and she was very responsive to my emails and phone calls. She was great to work with, and when I finally met her the month before my wedding, she treated myself and my mom to lunch!
I left my décor at the Mill the next before with an instruction list and everything was set up exactly how I wanted it!
Laura was the venue coordinator on the day of my wedding and she was very accommodating - my officiant was in a car accident and was going to be over an hour later so Laura suggested switching the cocktail hour/pictures and ceremony, which was great for my guests and kept things moving! She also helped bustle my very complicated dress. The only compliant is she was a little short with my husband and some guests but I think with all the commotion she was great with me!
The grounds are beautiful - the gazebo for the ceremony has a view of the lake and they have tons of flowers around (saves on a florist!). Our reception was in the smaller River Room and was so quaint with a great view of the Kissing Bridge! I loved the little garden area off the room that was great to get fresh air and let the kids run around in. The food and cake were absolutely fantastic and again, a wonderful value for what you get! The staff and bartender were also great! -

Easy experience, great value
Overall, I would say this was exactly the experience advertised for at the Mill. The food is absolute incredible, my guests still rave about the quality of the food and the bread especially (although I didn't get to have a piece, because they ran out since my guests loved them so much!). With regard to the actual lead up to the day, I was working with Sierra who was organized and easy to work with leading up to the day. She was very flexible about helping me re-use my decorations/florals from the ceremony to my reception, and I really appreciated her doing so as I was initially told by the wedding coordinators that they would very limitedly assist us with things like this. I felt like they undersold how much they'd help with, and then overdelivered on the day of on how much they ended up helping with (so a positive, but it did weird me out in the beginning). My only true complaints were that they accidentally did not have enough seats at one of the tables for my guests, even though they had a seating chart in advance. I was really upset about this because it took so long for them to provide them a seat at their table, I would say about 45 minutes or so. It felt really embarrassing, although my friends were ok with it. When I expressed my frustration with the lead server, she told me that "I needed to make sure my guests were taken care of", which was a very offputting comment that upset me... because the seating chart was something done in advance to make sure my guests were cared for. I understand people make mistakes but a more appropriate response would have been to just apologize and handle the situation quickly. This was kind of the beginning of the head server's rudeness toward myself and my husband, and the rest of our guests during the evening. A few people complained to me after the wedding about her specifically, which was shocking to me because I thought it was just toward us. We also had our wedding in the River Room, which is advertised to fit up to 80 people and we had 65 people. It was very tight at 65, with space for dancing in the middle. I can't imagine if we had 80 people in there. I think it would sit more comfortably at 50-60 for an intimate wedding celebration. I do recommend the River Room if you are looking for a smaller wedding celebration in a charming space. Again, food is incredible and the grounds were as well. I would recommend. -

My wedding ceremony and reception were held at The Mill on The River. We loved working with Laura, the banquet manager, because of her efficiency, responsiveness and flexibility with our requests. She has a very calm demeanor; I doubt anything can shake her, and if it does, you'll never know it.
Unfortunately, our wedding day weather did not cooperate with our plans for a gazebo ceremony, but Laura was a very calming presence, and made sure that I was as happy as possible with having the ceremony moved inside at the last minute. Although it wasn't what I had envisioned, it still was beautiful and went off without a hitch.
The food at The Mill on the River is spectacular. Many times at a wedding, you can tell the kitchen is pumping out banquet food, but all of our dishes were handled with care and were absolutely delicious.
The Mill's pastry chef gets five stars herself! I gave Laura photos of what I envisioned, and a flavor cake/filling they don't normally offer, and we were so pleased that it was EXACTLY how we wanted it to be...and it was DELICIOUS!
The decor is perfect for a rustic wedding. Ours was in the afternoon/evening and the white mini lights on the wooden beams in "The Rafters" room was romantic and elegant, but not stuffy.
The grounds at The Mill on The River are meticulously cared for. There are plants and flowers nearly year-round and there are many gorgeous places to have photos taken.
Even if you're not in the market for a reception location, have dinner there or try Sunday Brunch. Seriously, one of the best in the state. -

We love Mill on the River! Couldn't wait to have our wedding dream event there..Oct 4, 2014.
We had a small family wedding and although we couldn't use the gazebo as planned for the ceremony due to the rain, the River Room was just great and it worked out fine. My concerns about everything (bride nerves) were unwarranted since Laura came through with calmness and attention to details that I originally thought would be lacking. Laura, a special Thanks to you! The entire staff was pleasant (I didn't expect less, since we have always found this to be true) and very professional. We had requested a slow service for dinner which was perfectly executed. The food excellent as always. Our guests loved the venue, the food, the staff and the warmth and charm of the Mill's atmosphere. It was a lovely day. A perfect place for a romantic intimate Wedding!

Working with Laura was wonderful - planning the wedding from out of state, we were able to communicate mostly via email. She was prompt in responding to my emails and always professional. The venue is beautiful and the food was delicious! In addition, the package that we purchased was a great deal - included food, cake, and open bar! It made planning from out of state much easier by eliminating the number of vendors we had to deal with. -

Laura, the banquet manager, was wonderful! She went over details with me and was very receptive of how I wanted things set up. The ceremony was in the gazebo and it was perfect; the reception went well also and the staff was very attentive. The banquet coordinator that was originally assigned to me was not very responsive, so I was lucky she was away and I got to work with Laura the week of my wedding. I was a little disappointed with my food that day bc we chose a higher end package that includes better meat cuts; we've had dinner there previously and the food was always great. I ordered the prime rib as my wedding dinner and half of it was pure fat. My guests, however, were raving about how good the food was, it must have been an isolated case. I'm sure they would have given me another plate, but I didn't ask (finally relaxed!) :) -

The wedding was beautiful. The only reason they don't get five stars is because it was really hard to get in touch with banquet manager when planning she would only email me back half the time -

The Mill on the River was the only reception place we looked at and immediately booked them for our wedding. The value was fantastic. We did the Deluxe Buffet and the food was delicious. The cocktail hour was amazing. The buffet had a lot of choices and there was so much food. I received great reviews on the whole venue. The open bar was stocked with great alcohol. -

I was a bit apprehensive, since I had read some negative reviews about Mill on the River, but I can happily report that everything was fantastic! Laura was very helpful, the food was fantastic, everything went without a hitch! Everyone raved about the food, it was really top-notch. The Bartender (forgot his name) was great- very outgoing and nice. All the wait staff were great. We really we treated like royalty and everything was wonderful!! -

The food was absolutely delicious, our guests raved about the quality of the appetizers and the meal! Our only complaints were the lack of enough air conditioning (we were sweating) and the amount of space (they CANNOT fit 150 people comfortably). -

When booking at MOTR we were told a few things that did not happen the day of the wedding. its frustrating when you've spent so long planning and things are not executed the way you invisioned it. I left specific instructions and i feel as though if i was not there, they would have not be executed properly. The staff was very professional and very nice. The bartender we had for the reception he was great! the food was fantastic our guests could not stop talking about how great the food was!! Trying to get ahold of Laura during the week was really hard, considering she is off Wednesdays and Thursdays. she does have an assistant that helps her, however it does not seem like they have a great system of communication with each other. there were just a few very important things did i felt did not go as smoothly as i had hoped they would, the day of.
I rated the Quality of service a 4 out of 5. I took away one star for the confusion and unorganization on the day of our wedding.
I rated the Responsiveness a 3 out of 5. Because it would take a week for someone to email me back, unless i called and asked for someone to check their email. there were some things we were told would happen, that didnt happen.
I rated the Professinalism a 4 out of 5. The staff was VERY PROFESSIONAL... but i did get a few rude comments and a small attitude from some people that were there. I felt as though the bride and the groom should have a been a bit more special that day than the rest. considering the amount of money we dropped on the wedding
I rated the Value a 5 out of 5. You will go so much inside the package. i'm pretty sure that guests didnt have to eat for 3 days after our wedding!
I am rating the Flexibility a 4.5 out of 5. sometimes it seemed as though it was an inconvieniance that we were there.
hope this helps people who read it! -

We were extremely happy with Mill on the River, not only the ceremony and reception venues but also the food and service. The atmosphere was perfect and the onsite consultants were helpful in taking care of the details of the day. The food was great and we could not have been happier with our decision. -

I'm glad we chose TMOTR for our venue. You really can't beat the value... for their prices (which are comprable to others in the area) you get far more- the wedding cake is included, an open bar is included, and if you have your reception there, they'll waive the ceremony fee so you pretty much get the gazebo rental free. My only complaint is the hidden fees. When we first talked to them, we asked all the right questions- but they tiptoed around answers. For example, it wasnt until 3 months before the wedding that we found out we had to pay $4 per chair we wanted set up outside the gazebo. Obviously we couldn't have people stand. Even still, the wedding went very smoothly. The food was amazing. The river room is beautiful, and overall the staff were all very nice and acccomodating. I'd recommend this place for smaller weddings. However, there's no way you can comfortably fit the numbers they say they accomodate. We had 60 guests... which was perfect for the downstairs room... however I cannot imagine reaching the 80 person capacity down there. It'd be SO cramped. -

I was married this past spring at the mill on the river. Laura, the banquet manager was always quick to respond or answer any questions. Day of the wedding I was a little disappointed. Aa guests were arriving, no one escorted them to be seated prior to the ceremony. Most of my guests walked around confused until I advised staff of the problem. After the ceremony my guests did not know where to go. Most of them wandered around until they were pointed in the right direction. The food was great! I still hear rave reviews about the raw bar and dinner. Our bartender was awesome and was able to handle the rowdy bunch attending. Overall, it was nice however I envisioned things running a little more smoothly. -

I had the ceremony of my dreams. The only thing I will say however is that because they do so many weddings sometimes I felt like the staff was a little insensitive to my needs and concerns. The food was amazing, some of the staff was rude to my guests during the reception, we had an amazing server named Beth she was so helpful and catered to everything we wanted. Overall it was beautiful and I had the wedding I wanted. I would recommend it, for the price it was an amazing value. Open bar was great bartenders were fun! -

We had a fantastic time at the Mill on the River for our wedding. The food was fantastic and the atmosphere was very nice. My guests had a wonderful and they absolutely loved their meals!
There were just a couple things that I wasn't too thrilled about- for example our reception was supposed to go until 9:30pm but they were telling my DJ that everyone had to be out by 9:00pm. My mother spoke to them during the reception, though, and they changed the time immediately without giving us a hard time. Another thing that I wasn't too thrilled about with was that we only had three children at the wedding and they had wanted items off the "adult" menu and they wouldn't lower the price of the meal. We figured we would be able to since the children wouldn't be drinking from the open bar- but they would not budge on that. They also didn't give the correct meals to our photographers which I wasn't too happy about since we had to pay for each of their meals.
They were however extremely helpful in making sure that the reception area was decorated the way I wanted and they did a great job with that. They also made two special meals for two of my guests that are allergic to garlic and they both thought the meals were fantastic and very flavorful.
Amanda helped me through the process of the wedding and was very kind. It was a beautiful day! =) -

Beautiful, Great Food & Atmosphere, BUT...
Pros & Cons: I was very smart to read several reviews about this venue which helped tremendously in getting ahead of several issues, and even as prepared as I was, things still went wrong.
Pros: I was happy with the atmosphere both inside & out. I was married on 10/8/23 with a 4:30 pm start time. We used the gazebo which was beautiful, and the chairs were nice and reasonably priced. They gave 30 minutes for the ceremony, which was very good, and because we used their venue for the reception, it was no extra charge which was fantastic. One thing to note if you do the same, find out where the sun will set at that time of day and year. Our time frame meant that the sun was setting diagonally from behind the seated guests but was fiercely bright and blinded anyone standing at the altar. It was difficult to read, and look at each other, the camera, and the guests and the photos showed it lol. Also consider that the guests sit in chairs on the lawn. It rained all week, softening the ground, good thing I told guests to prepare for that well in advance of the wedding day. Our wedding website here was very thorough helping our guests consider many things before they arrive if you want to borrow ideas. We used the deck for photos, but it snagged many a dress, including mine which I knew it would, but I wanted the photos there. I tried to be careful, but you can't remember anything that day, it's too much of a rush, so keep that in mind. I don't fault the venue for this stuff, just more of a note for y'all to consider.
They do not allow any synthetic confetti or sparklers. I am a fan of the only organics policy. I dried flower petals to be thrown at us.
The DJ they recommended, Rob Guilmette, was excellent. He listened to everything, was well priced, patient, professional, and attentive. Big plus and great job with filling in the blanks for things we didn't know we wanted. Our guests LOVED him.
The food was SO Delicious! The choices were plenty, and we were given a certificate to try the food in the restaurant in advance.
Pricing was good considering the Ceremony was free, and alcohol was included in our package.
Cons: THEY DO NOT Have or Provide a coordinator. They have banquet managers that will make sure that the food and beverage gets served, and the tables are set up with the basics. If you provide decor, you will be at the mercy of the person who sets it up for you just doing their best. Also, they only set up no more than 2 hours in advance and have only a couple of staff that do it, as they can AND WILL book up to 2 events a day in each of their venue rooms. If you want the reception set up a specific way, and or have a lot to set up, you WILL NEED TO HIRE OR HAVE EXTRA HELP, but also, know that they will not let you come in any earlier than the setup staff. Your setup time is limited. Keeping it simple it the best idea for this venue. In contrast mine was very elaborate, full blown DIY Enchanted Forest, and it really was difficult to get it done in time, and I had 4 to 6 extra people helping with it. I lost the morning photos and time with my mom because she was a helper, and in retrospect, I'm not sure it was worth it. Also, glass decor is risky, I read that other weddings had stuff get broken, so I tried not to use it, but my decor did also suffer several casualties. For me it hurt because I personally hand made everything. They really try to clean up FAST, gentleness goes out the window, and you only get 1 hour to clean up.
The manager I worked with didn't actually work my wedding, and there were things that fell through the cracks. We were supposed to be served our cocktail hour food and drink outside while doing photos while the guests were downstairs enjoying that part of the evening, and they did not bring us anything when I was assured that they would. I should have hired a coordinator because they would have checked with the staff for us. Also, the lack of a coordinator hurt in other ways, especially with time management. They only gave us 4 hours for the reception, and I didn't realize how that IS NOT ENOUGH TIME. The bride and groom get pulled in so many directions, and photos took so much time, especially since we wanted the night photos. The bustle of my dress took way longer than I anticipated, I didn't have much time to dance because I wanted to see family I hadn't seen in years. Things like that take more time than you think. I had no time to really check out everything I made on the tables and enjoy the fruits of my labor. So, I think a venue offering more than 4 hours is a smarter bet. New brides don't realize this.
The wait staff were very rude to my mother, knowing she was mother of the bride. I think they were maybe having a bad day but when my mother asked where to get a plate, the lady yelled at her? She didn't tell me till recently so I couldn't address it.
Our reception was downstairs in the River Room, which is beautiful, but they don't have central AC down there, and even in October after sundown, IT WAS HOT! They have these little mini units that just didn't cut it with 50 people down there. Also, there are no bathrooms on this floor, everyone will have to go back upstairs, and there are not many stalls.
They are a restaurant first, so they do not have a bridal suite. I got ready at our nearby hotel, The Cambria, which was a smart move to be so close to the venue, because I was running late.
SOoooo, over all it was more good than bad, and if I had hired a coordinator, keep in mind I knew that they didn't provide one and had 4-6 helpers at all times to circumvent most of the issues that were mentioned by other brides, it would have been almost perfect. I hope this helps.-

I would say everything overall went fairly well. My biggest disappointment was that dinner service was extremely slow. Some of my guests had started leaving before the entree course had come out. It was 10pm and no one, not even me (bride) had gotten their entree yet. I had to go over to the wait staff service area to ask what was going on.
Everyone raved about the food (it was delicious). The facility is nice however if you're in the large room upstairs, there is NO bathroom up there, which means that your intoxicated guests have to go down a flight of stairs to get to one. This was tough with a wedding dress on. And the restroom that is there is not suited for someone in a bridal gown (small stalls, not the cleanest). Also, where they have the bride/groom sit on front of the window, there are some guests who are unable to see you from their seat during dinner service. And there is NO bridal suite here.
They were able to accommodate some special requests which was nice.
If you have an appointment with one of the wedding coordinators, expect that they will run an hour late. The only meeting they were on time for was our initial meeting when we were looking at the premesis for the first time. All other meetings we had, they made us wait for at least an hour. We have a one year old, and keeping her happy for an hour is very difficult. -

Great wedding, but difficult process
I will preface this review by saying we had a great wedding at The Mill on the River, and looking back we wouldn't have chosen a different venue based on our priorities. However, what made the day great had nothing to do with The Mill, but rather with all the hard work and personal touches we put into it. For the price, I think you get a good experience here, but working with The Mill was very difficult and I've explained our biggest issues and warnings below.
COMMUNICATION: Our biggest complaint with The Mill was their poor communication and customer service. Since there are so many details to keep track of when wedding planning, we preferred to communicate with all our vendors via email, so we could refer back to them. We mainly corresponded with Laura and it was difficult and extremely frustrating. She would take weeks to reply to questions and we would usually have to send 1-2 follow up emails to get a response. If we asked 4 questions, she would maybe answer 2 and completely ignore the others. We also heard "No" a lot. Any small requests we had that were even slightly outside the most basic amenities they offer were denied, so if you're looking for any customization, they may not be amendable. Laura was also out the 3 days before our wedding when we were trying to correspond about last minute details (dropping off decorations, etc.) and didn't even bother to tell us or even have an away message on her email. Very unprofessional. During the wedding she was around from the ceremony to about halfway through dinner and then we never saw or heard from her again. I would think an event coordinator would at least be there through the event. What if something had gone wrong? It's been 2 months and no follow up, nothing. It seems like basic customer service to follow up after an event like this.
FOOD: The food is NOT the same as in the restaurant. It's still good and probably a little above the average wedding food, but definitely not the same quality of flavor or plating that is in the restaurant. The salads were even served in plastic bowls you'd see in a diner, and the cake was tasty but pretty lackluster and basic. The passed hors d'oeuvres were really good and we did like all of the food options. Getting 3 entree choices plus a vegetarian option was really nice.
SPACE: We were in the River Room downstairs and it was a great size for our smaller party. I mainly want to warn people about the outdoor space off this room that The Mill has recently converted (just finished September 2019) into an alternate ceremony space. We were told that now if there are two weddings on the same day, if you're in the River Room, that would be your ceremony spot. I would NOT recommend that space for a ceremony, and if you book this room I would make it explicit in the contract that you get the other ceremony spot by the lake with the gazebo. This new spot is extremely close to the road so there would definitely be car noise and just the general distraction of cars going by. Behind the altar up a little bit of a hill is the parking lot which would be in the background of your pictures. It's right next to the river which, when we were back there taking pictures, had an unpleasant odor. Also there's barely any aisle to walk down. The gazebo site is beautiful and one of the reasons we chose this venue, but this new site is not and we would not have chosen them if that had to be our ceremony site. -

The ceremony was beautiful. The reception just o.k. The problem was the wedding coordinator gave the impression she did not want to work. When we arrived there was dog poop on the path the bride had to walk down. It took three attempts by my sister to get it removed. When planning the wedding there were surprise costs that where not told up front. We were never asked if we wanted seating for the ceremony, it came up in conversation then we were told we would be charged. When some guests asked for silverware the response was these are finger foods. The last straw was when we had some guests arriving late we asked for some food to be set aside and were told no! -

Their customer service tagline: “You get what you get and you don’t get upset”
We had our wedding at The Mill a few weeks ago on 10/08/2022. While the indoor and outdoor spaces both were beautiful and the setup and food/bar service were adequate, we would not recommend this venue to any couple unless they’d like the tagline of their wedding experience to be “You get what you get and you don’t get upset.”
Communication from the time of booking up until our big day was very limited (with delayed email responses, many of which entirely overlooked several questions/clarifications), details and provided package information were inconsistent (and we as the customers were blamed for not “catching” omitted package offerings on the final bill) and the transition from working with the event coordinator to working directly with only the managers (upon the coordinator, Shayla’s, leaving) proved VERY disconnected.
If you have any expectations of day-of coordination, accommodation of special requests, a hands-on personal touch or professional customer service, do not book your wedding at The Mill on the River.
Upon sharing our dissatisfaction, no responsibility was accepted on behalf of the venue for their lack of attentiveness—attentiveness not only in all the communication leading up to the event but also ON our wedding day! Day-of, the assigned manager failed to greet us upon arrival, line up our wedding party for ceremony and reception introductions or ensure our meal was brought out in a timely manner. She was rarely present for the duration of our event at all and I didn’t get to speak with her once!
While some venues are able to juggle many simultaneous events, while still making each client feel attended to (let alone ‘special’), Mill on the River did NOT. I will never forget having to hike up my wedding dress, climb upstairs and have the host page the manager myself in order to facilitate our reception introductions after several members of our wedding party were unable to locate her. The venue explained this lack of attentiveness as simply our “misunderstanding of their role.”
Thus, we feel the need to make it VERY clear to any future potential client what their role truly is:
booking a wedding at The Mill grants you contracted use of the spaces, basic event setup, and food/bar service (BUT be SURE to confirm and keep record of all provided package details before the event—because they WON’T and things you were expecting— like an entire dessert table display, for example—may be omitted from the final bill). Should you seek to hire a wedding planner and/or day-of coordinator, it may be an entirely different experience.
In short: Do not expect ANY hospitality from the management; and let it be known loud and clear that they do NOT coordinate or communicate. -

I had my wedding at The Mill on the River almost 2 weeks ago..the staff was HORRIBLE and RUDE! While the venue is beautiful and the food is great, I would stay away from this venue for catering or weddings! The bartender was swearing at my guests and complaining that she wasn't getting enough tips. I had half a table of people who did not get what they ordered and were told by the waitstaff that they "ran out" of their food order..how can you possibly run out if you are a RESTAURANT?! The manager did nothing to fix this problem, except blame my guests, claiming that they "must have changed their order"..which wasn't the case. After the ceremony, no one directed my guests where to go for the reception..which turned into a mess of people not knowing where to go! I was extremely disappointed with the manager and her behavior. I would never recommend this venue to anyone! -

My fiance and I were set on having our wedding here after meeting with the wedding planner, Amanda. We tried to go in the next week to sign a contract and she went on vacation for two weeks. We spoke with the other wedding coordinator who actually knew what she was talking about and found out that the additional costs that were originally discussed as "included" were not.
We did not want an open bar and so Amanda showed us dinner packages. We loved the buffet, reasonable and simple at $28.95, discussed what was included and not, went on to look at the premises and discuss the options there. We left happy and felt like we found our place.
In speaking with the other coordinator, we found out that we were going to have to pay an additional cost of $5.95 to serve sodas/juice per person. We would also be charged $1 per napkin to have anything other than chocolate. I was very upset with this and knew right away that it was going to be over our budget (add 19% gratuity & 6% tax to everything). We tried to bargain with them because we weren't going to have a 4 hour reception but the charges stood regardless of what their employee gave us for information.
Their response to us was that she must have been talking about the wedding package which does include all of this and open bar, etc. We quickly said that was not the case because she had not even pulled out the wedding packages because we were clear from the start there would be no open bar or even a cash bar.
We find it completely unprofessional and based on other reviews we read online about this facility, we should have known better and not gotten my hopes up from the start. We read negative reviews about the venue and coordinator.
We learned our lesson!! -

My wedding was a nightmare. We had older family members coming (wheelchairs, canes and walkers) so having a bathroom upstairs in the room that we were holding the reception was great!! I was told that the bathroom was not working, 1 month before my wedding, I said that was more then enough time to have it fixed. Then I was told, well its not broken, we are just using it for storage, but I was told that it would be cleaned out for the night of my wedding... IT WASNT!!!
The reception manager asked my husband and I how things were, right when we got our food. I said its pretty hot in here... ( it was 80 in september) I asked her to put the A/C on, and she said no, go outside and get some air.
As a favor to our guests we had a candy bar table set up. In addition, we made chocolate covered pretzel rods, I had previous permission to do all of this. Well they refused to put the pretzels out, cause they were home made food, and all of the glass bowls, vases and such that we bought for that night especially.... were broken by the staff when they were putting things away that night... they were throwing them into my plastic rubbermaid bins... i saw them. NO respect from this venue.
I wanted here comes the bride music played when i was walking down the aisle, but was told no, because there was dinner guest sitting outside and that would be wrong for them to have to "deal with", so i walked down with no music, but during the cocktail hour, it was ok to have music.
i would never ever recommend this venue. I should have known better to book this place when we had a gift card for there, and it was expired by 6 months and they wouldnt let us use it for dinner, when we told them that we were checking it out as a place to have our wedding. they got over $7,000 from us but wouldnt let us use a $50 gift card that expired only 6 months previously. -

If you book a wedding at Mill on the River you will be very sorry. My May 24 2015 wedding at Mill on the River was one of the most horrible and traumatic days of my life. Mill on the River should be avoided at all cost. I will be honest, there was a lot of bad signs about Mill on the River prior to my wedding day ( potential vendors told us due to prior experiences with Mill on the River they refused to book there, the venue manager Laura is extremely rude, unprofessional, and was extremely difficult to reach- she never replied to emails and never returned phone calls) , but my FH and I ignored these as we had already put down a non-refundable $500.00deposit on the venue. I explained to Laura numerous times that I did not want my groom( now husband) to see my before the ceremony. The venue manager Laura explained to me on the day of the wedding to wait in the parking lot and call her once I am there. I did everything I was told to do, I am waiting for almost 15 minutes in my wedding dress. I am hysterical , crying , screaming and cursing because all of my guests and my groom have now seen me prior to the ceremony in my wedding dress. When I asked Laura why she was not picking up my calls, she told me because she was busy with other calls. EXCUSE ME I paid for a ceremony from 3:00pm-8:00pm during this time you the venue manager should focus all you attention on me. Instead we later found out that there was 2 other weddings going on at Mill on the River the same day tpo. When my parents went to complain to the venue manager, they saw the venue manager being yelled out by other angry brides and grooms that day.
During the reception, NONE of my decorations were set up properly. In fact because the staff set one of my centerpieces TOO CLOSE to a candle and my decorations ending up catching on fire. At the tables the staff did not follow the floor chart and food chart. -
