We found Melissa through a co-worker of mine who used her for family photos. We originally started using her to photograph our daughter and our family, on a yearly basis. When we became engaged we immediately reached out to her about capturing our wedding. She sent me an email with her package options, which I then referred to our wedding planner, as this was foreign to me. Pricing was excellent and so we moved forward right away. Melissa came to meet me at work to pick up the contract and deposit, and the final monies as well. She did beautiful work for our engagement photos and it was cold and windy that day. We trekked around downtown Raleigh and the photos are stunning. My bridal portraits were done a month before our wedding and I still haven't chosen my favorites! They're all so beautiful! On our wedding day our package included 2 photographers and after we were done prepping, they just disappeared into the ceremony and reception, as we had hoped they would. We are excited to see our wedding photos but have absolutely no doubts that they will be a continuation of excellent work that we have always had when working with Melissa!We found Melissa through a co-worker of mine who used her for family photos. The absolute best photographer hands down! Melissa absolutely knows what she is doing! Her work is amazing! I highly recommend her! She is professional, punctual, and very creative! She is by far the Best photographer I have ever used! I was so pleased with our wedding pictures. She made the best day of my life even better because she captured every moment perfectly!! I would recommend her to everyone I know! She was there from the very beginning to the very end helping with things that we didn't even hire her for! Melissa is such a wonderful, sweet and fun person to be around. She made everything about our sessions fun, and I couldn't ask for a better photographer. She has a great eye for beautiful pictures and loves fun new ideas to try. We felt very comfortable around her and from the pictures that we've seen so far we are just absolutly thrilled that we had her their for such a special day. A bride would be crazy not to have her as a photographer because she is amazing and she's professional, but in that way that you still feel like she's a friend instead of just a photographer when she's there with you! We had the best photographer ever, and wouldn't change it for the world!Melissa is such a wonderful, sweet and fun person to be around. Melissa Smith was hired to photograph engagement pictures for my fiance and I this October. I spoke with her through e-mail and phone several times. Her communication wasn't wonderful, it would often take her several days to reply to my e-mails but I still went through with our scheduled engagement session. On the day of my session I had my hair, nails and make-up done for the photos. Our session was scheduled for 5pm and Melissa NEVER SHOWED UP! I called her several times and she never answered. An hour and a half later I received a TEXT MESSAGE (not phone call) that she had gone to Winston-Salem early that morning for a "family emergency". She informed me through TEXT that I should have checked my Facebook because she had messaged me (what professional communicates through Facebook??). After putting us through all of that Melissa refused to return our $500 security deposit. She even mentioned in one e-mail that she would refund me for the cost I incurred for preparing for our session but that was a lie, she never sent the check she promised. I would NOT recommend Melissa Smith if you are looking for someone reliable. This matter is about to become a legal matter. Please know that PPA is also looking into this matter and will be soon contacting this person. She fails to mention the fact that she her self sign a wedding contract in 2010 and then canceled her wedding. I tried to offer her a credit she could use with a one year expiration date. that was never done in a timely manner. I was then contacted about photographing her wedding since she was re engaged (this all after 2 years) she could not afford my wedding packages and wanted a refund was again told no refund. I offered to shoot an engagement session for her. She accepted that offer on the basis she knew her deposit was NON refundable I had a terrible family emergency the morning of her engagement session in which she was notified at 7am (10hrs before her session) she was not happy which I understand however this was a service I offered. I was not in any way contracted for this engagement session. I tried to offer a $200 refund for her paying a hair dresser the day of her engagement session in which she claims to have never received any of the messages I had sent her that day. However she refused my offer and demanded a full refund of her original deposit. What it comes down to is Ms Hill is upset that I refuse to refund her $500 retainer for a wedding that she was orignally contracted for but she her self was in breach of contract by canceling her wedding date there for costing me a full days pay. I have contacted an attorny as of today as well as professional photographers of America in which I am an upstanding memeber. I would appreciate once this matter is resovled this review will be removed. Thank You, Melissa Smith -
