Joyce was absolutely the best! She was so professional and also upbeat throughout the whole process. She does all of the little things, like ensures she moves out of first kiss photos. Our venue's coordinator had some hiccups during the rehearsal and ceremony and Joyce handled them with grace. We loved having her officiate our wedding!

Such a Delight
Joyce was a dream to have officiate our wedding. She was on top of the rehearsal to make sure everyone knew what they were to be doing. Joyce is exactly who you will want to officiate your marriage. She made us WANT to celebrate our marriage. I'm sure that sounds strange, but as we met with her to talk through our journey (which included a Covid-canceled wedding from March 2020 and the addition of a toddler to the mix!), she
articulated all the beautiful moments and symbolism that go into a ceremony. It reminded us that the wedding wasn't just a big planning item to check off on your to-do list (speaking to my fellow Type A Brides out there!), but it's a true celebration of a meaningful and beautiful life event.
Joyce came highly recommended to us from Stone Manor Country Club. We planned our small wedding in just 2 months, and we were fairly clueless about what we wanted. All we knew was that it was important for us to feel at ease with our officiant (we didn't want to be lectured or made to sit silently while someone rambled off Bible verses to us). Joyce is SO warm and welcoming, and she has a wicked sense of humor. She comes prepared with helpful materials and to-do lists (which I loved!), and everything can be tailored to your own desires.
I distinctly remember leaving our meeting with her and thinking, "Yes! This is EXACTLY who we need." After meeting her, I felt so excited about our marriage and that we were finally able to celebrate us.
She also wore the most amazing, gorgeous shoes to our ceremony :) :) :). They look wonderful in our wedding photos!

Joyce helped us tie the knot, literally!
My spouse and I found Reverend Joyce Hilbery and MDDC Weddings through an online search. We were getting married near Frederick, MD but we're from the Baltimore area, and neither of us has a particular religious affiliation. We wanted a ceremony that captured our personalities, and she worked with us to create the best experience.
We first contacted Joyce through the website and she was very responsive - we set up a video call to talk a little about the date/location and what we were thinking of. We made a plan to have a meeting near Frederick - as she said, it's important for us to get to know each other a little for her to perform the service on our special day. Joyce was absolutely lovely to work with, very organized, open to ideas, with a great sense of humor, and also sensitivity to family dynamics that related to the ceremony. We got many of the details ironed out there with a plan for following up closer to the wedding.
One of the things I really appreciated working with Joyce was having a sample script available and we could mix-and-match different pieces to make the ceremony exactly what we wanted. We kept the ceremony short and sweet with a knot-tying at the end.
The day of the ceremony, she had the groom faced away for a 'reveal' moment as I came down the aisle (we didn't do first looks or see each other at all since the day before the wedding, so this was a really special moment). She came prepared with extra copies of the readings and vows for us, and kept everything moving smoothly. At the very end, she paused and moved out of the way for the first kiss photos - a move our photographer greatly appreciated.
Overall, Joyce was a pleasure to work with and I would highly recommend her to other couples. Best wishes!

From the moment we first met Joyce, we knew she was the officiant for us. She has this aura that just draws you in and keeps you waiting for her next words - not to mention those deep blue eyes and radiant smile! We were able to personalize all parts of the ceremony script using templates she provided as well as include our own readings. Our guests were moved and simultaneously entertained with Joyce's sincere voice and charismatic attitude. They shed tears of joy yet also laughed at Joyce’s sprinkles of witty remarks. One of my favorite things about her which the guests weren’t able to see was her leadership during the rehearsal. She kept everyone focused and highlighted crucial details that made the ceremony that much more special. Without Joyce, the ceremony would have just not been the same, and we highly HIGHLY recommend contacting her if you’re looking for someone to ensure the most important day of your life is perfect. Made the day complete
We looked at and interviewed a lot of officiants. We’re a non religious couple so finding someone without religious affiliations willing to do a non theist ceremony was challenging. Then we met Joyce. Upon our first meeting, we felt like she was an old friend. We knew right away she was the officiant for us! The accent certainly helped. 😅 Joyce was professional and responsive during the planning process and a lifesaver during the rehearsal! Not only did we have no idea what we were doing (hey, who does. We’re all new at this, right?!) we also had some rogue groomsmen. Joyce whipped them into shape and helped us execute a beautiful plan. She really took charge and made it fun! Obviously nerves got the best of some of us on wedding day but Joyce was there with her cues, calmness and professionalism to help us out. She performed a beautiful ceremony that was perfect for us. We included readings and read our own vows. Several guests commented on how wonderful Joyce was. In my opinion, you should save yourself time and just hire Joyce as your officiant!

Simply the best!
Joyce was an incredible officiant. What made us book her on the spot was her winning personality and awesome sense of humor. On a day full of nerves, it was important to have someone we both felt comfortable with.
On top of being a joy to work with, she was also extremely flexible, patient, and understanding. We had to reschedule our wedding twice. The first time was due to Covid. We decided to have a minimony prior to our rescheduled “wedding” date because of the ailing health of a family member. Joyce was extremely compassionate and didn’t flinch at the idea of changing plans, yet again.
I could go on and on but the point is, call Joyce, you won’t be disappointed. You’ll be able to tell from the first conversation that she’s the one you want!

Joyce was awesome to work with! She was super helpful in putting together the final ceremony and making recommendations along the way. Joyce was amazing! So sweet, honest, and easy to work with! She brought a levity to the day that was very special. She makes it so easy to personalize everything about your ceremony, and even provides templates to help get you started. We really didn’t know what we wanted in a ceremony, only what we didn’t want. She helped us pull together a ceremony that fit us perfectly. She was a wonderful and memorable addition to our wedding. Wow. What an absolute delight!
Joyce was absolute perfection at our wedding - don’t even think twice about having her officiate. We got so many compliments about Joyce from guests and other vendors after the ceremony - the readings and ceremony were beautiful PLUS she’s absolutely hilarious and brought some levity and laughter. From our first few minutes of sitting done with her at the first meeting we already knew we we were going to hire her. She makes the entire process EASY but also customizable (which all brides know the less stressful the better) and offered up some amazing ideas. We told her we didn’t want to write our own vows and she instead suggested that we do a wine box ceremony where we write a letter to each other and close them up with a box of wine which we ended up doing as part of our ceremony. It was such an amazing idea and, again, we had over ten people come up to us afterwards and tell us they loved the wine box idea and had never seen it before. She made our entire wedding party laugh moments before walking down the aisle which calmed our nerves and then again afterwards had us all rolling. If I had to envision the “perfect” officiant it would be Joyce - beautiful voice, great presence, a calming and joyful force on our wedding day, and effortlessly throws in touches of humor which made all the guests laugh. Trust me - she’s it.

July 2019 wedding
Joyce was our wedding life savior! We had everything planned for the wedding except the most important person to actually wed us! We met for dinner and bam we new we were in the right hands. With only about 4 weeks until the wedding Joyce was there for us. With her years of experience she was prepared to share our special day!
Day of the wedding she was a little piece of relief for us as we prepared to go out in front of our friends and family. Our ceremony was short and very sweet (in the middle of the summer!) we also had a bridal party of 22! Groomsmen, bridesmaids and our flower girls and ring bearers. So she made it happen!

A Special Day Made Even More Special
Rev. Joyce Hilbery was our officiant for our recent wedding, and it simply would not have been the same without her. We planned our wedding from the other side of the world, and from the start she was very responsive and easy to get in touch with. She gave us lots of wonderful ideas for readings and ceremony add-ons to work with and was very receptive to our choices/preferences around wording which were important as we are a same-sex couple. She arrived promptly on the day of the ceremony, and made us all feel immediately at ease. She had great banter with the bridal party and really felt like one of the family. My husband and I are not overly religious people and really didn’t want the traditional style wedding. I did a general search for officiants and Joyce was close to us, so that’s who we picked. We scheduled a lunch meeting. My husband really didn’t want to come because he thought it was weird that we HAD to meet an officiant and talk about our wedding. After our meeting was finished, he couldn’t say he loved her more!! She’s the friendliest, funniest, down to earth person and really fit our personalities perfectly! Joyce was recommended to us by our venue and we both agree she was the perfect officiant for us. When one of us started to tear up during the ceremony, she helped to calm us down.
She has a lot of wonderful experience, so her suggestions were all very helpful to us. She offered so many resources for ceremony ideas but was still happy to personalize based on what we wanted too. In addition, she handled everything with our marriage license, which meant less we had to do.

My (now) husband and I had Joyce officiate our wedding, and we thought our ceremony was perfect. Joyce provided us with suggestions to help craft our ceremony, which was extremely helpful. We had a 'wine box ceremony' that Joyce encouraged us to include, and we are so glad we did. Our friends and family enjoyed the unique and romantic addition to our ceremony.
Since our wedding was fairly small (we had 27 people in attendance, including our bridal and grooms parties of just a Matron of Honor and Best Man), Joyce told us that we did not necessarily need a rehearsal, and would save quite a bit of money by not having one. Joyce didn't have to tell us this (she LOST money by suggesting this) but her honesty was so appreciated and special. We did not have a rehearsal, and I think our ceremony went fairly smoothly.
I highly encourage you to reach out to Joyce if you are in need of an officiant!

We held a small ceremony at the Green Springs Gardens in Alexandria, VA with no guests, but us, Joyce as our marriage officiant and just as lovely photographer Darcy Troutman. We chose to contact Joyce after reading all the good reviews on internet, and are happy how it worked out. Joyce was lovely, friendly and with good sense of humor. She made us feel at ease when talking to her before the ceremony as well as on our wedding day.

Joyce performed our wedding with about three weeks notice. From start to finish she was charming, genuinely interested in us and what we had in our minds, accommodated every request, and made our day so special. We felt lucky to have Joyce marry us, and could not be more appreciative of her professionalism, kindness, and sense of humor. Absolutely wonderful experience, we would highly recommend her for any wedding big or small, same-sex marriage, or heterosexual marriage. She drove almost three hours to where we wanted to perform our wedding which was a bit further than her normal range but none the less did so with a smile on her face. Joyce was the highlight of my wedding. Her professionalism, and welcoming spirit opened up the guest at our LGBT Wedding.
It was a journey to find a great officiant, but the minute we sat down with Joyce she was the one and we knew it! Her options for ceremonies, and flexibility around “It’s your Day” is phenomenal. I would have been very saddened if we had not picked Joyce.

We really appreciated the different templates she had and the fact that we were able to meet her via Skype initially. As we went throughout the process, Joyce continually checked in with us and helped us create a timeline for the ceremony that we wanted. The wine box ceremony went extremely well and it helped make our ceremony extremely unique. We wanted a quick ceremony and she helped us with the overall outline while still keeping it meaningful. Joyce was also great the day of. She showed up early to see if she needed to do a soundcheck which was awesome. She was extremely reassuring and helped us with all of the paperwork as well. Joyce officiated our 250 person formal wedding this past October in DC. We waited until the last minute to find an officient but Joyce was great and quick working within our tight timeline. We met a few weeks out to discuss the ceremony and she gladly customized the ceremony to exactly what we wanted pleasing both us and our families ;) She facilitated our rehearsal the day before and did a great job getting all our troops in line. The day of she was a great source of calm, giving me great advice right before walking down the aisle. Everyone afterwards said she was terrific and entertaining! Thanks for everything Joyce!

From the very beginning Joyce was so incredibly helpful. We had no idea what to expect- not just from picking an officiant, but from the planning aspect as well- and Joyce was able to share her experience and ideas with us. She can recommend catering, photography, music, etc. On our wedding day she was there ready and set up so that I didn't have to worry or wait. During our first meeting we discussed several options for the wedding ceremony and what might work with our style. We bounced around ideas and reading. She guided but allowed us to come to our own determination for the feel of the ceremony. As the time grew closer she checked in with us several times to confirm details. She dealt with a last minute reader change with ease. She even maintained her cool with the ceremony site was buzzing with bees, which even landed on her ceremony book. She was cheerful and pleasant and had guests laughing which put us all at ease. Oh, she also makes some of the best shortbread I have even had. I met Joyce at a bridal show in Frederick and was immediately impressed with her demeanor and ability to make a personal connection with a complete stranger. She did an amazing job putting my fears of never finding an officiant to rest, and I knew when I walked out the of the building I would be using her for the ceremony. She made special accomodations to meet at a local coffee shop with me and my fiance about 6 months before the wedding to make sure we understood her services and knew what we needed to do before the big day. Many of the guests at our wedding were so pleased with her they have asked my now husband and I for her information to use in the future. She is a very professional and personable lady who made my day feel special to people who had been to plenty of weddings before.

In addition to delivering an outstanding service, I also wanted to mention one of the things that became so important as we were planning our wedding... availability and responsiveness. Joyce provided us with both e-mail and telephone contact information, and each of the several times we had questions for her leading up to our wedding day, Joyce responded almost immediately. In one instance, she even called me to say she was at another wedding, and would be about 2 more hours and would call me right back, just because she wanted to ensure I knew she'd gotten my message! And, when we had a change in plans just a week before our wedding, to add a rehearsal on the day before our wedding when we hadn't planned to do a rehearsal, Joyce made herself available with this very short notice to join us to ensure that everything went smoothly, and that we had FUN! :) Our wedding day definitely wouldn't have been the same without Joyce!

Let me just start by saying...do yourself a huge favor a book Joyce as your officiant! She will make your day everything you have ever dreamed of and more. I planned my wedding at Springfield Manor all the way from Florida, so I had to rely on other couple's wedding videos to choose my officiant. When I saw how friendly, carefree and funny Joyce was in a few videos, I knew she was the one! We e-mailed back and forth over the course of the year and she made me feel so comfortable even without meeting face to face. She was beyond flexible with whatever we wanted to make the day special for us. When we finally got to meet Joyce at our rehearsal I knew we had made the BEST choice. Everyone working at our venue said "Oh my goodness we love when Joyce is the officiant, she completely takes control of the ceremony and makes sure everything happens effortlessly." And that is exactly what she did! She made us feel so comfortable, told a few jokes to lighten the mood (and keep everyone in line) and walked us through how the entire ceremony would play out. On our actual wedding day, I think Joyce may have gotten more compliments than any other vendor we used. I can't count how many times guests asked us who our officiant was, how we found her, or complimented how amazing the ceremony was. She is simply the best!! She also gave us a little binder with a copy of our ceremony and vows, which was such a special unexpected surprise! I wish I could get married again just so I could spend some more time with Joyce!

Joyce was an absolute dream to work with and we are so happy we had her officiate our wedding ceremony. We met to discuss our needs for the ceremony and right away, we knew she was the right person for the job. She helped guide us through the process and was very responsive when we had questions. Joyce made everything so simple for us and set us at ease every step along the way. Our initial meeting with her was on Skype, but we felt connected to her immediately. Her personality is so fun and reassuring. She ran the rehearsal and was early on our wedding day! Everything went smooth and exactly as we hoped. We wanted my brother to perform the service (he performs many weddings in another state). Unfortunately, Virginia has very strict requirements. MDDC Weddings agreed to officiate (attending the service and signing all of the documents, etc.), while allowing my brother to perform the ceremonial function. Thank you Reverend Hilbery!

We knew within two minutes of meeting Joyce that she was the perfect officiant for us. She is very easy to work with, responsive, reasonably-priced, and just a wonderful person. We didn't want a traditional ceremony, and Joyce worked with us on the quirks we wanted to include in our ceremony. It was a perfect blend of sentimentality, humor, and nerdiness that made our guests both cry and laugh. We couldn't have found a more perfect officiant! Oh, and she has a soft Scottish brogue that is absolutely charming (as is Joyce herself)!

Joyce is the BEST! We had the best time with her. She made the ceremony so fun and enjoyable for not just us, but everyone who was there. She got us all put together for rehearsal so we all felt like we knew what to do at the ceremony. When our nerves kicked in at the ceremony and my fiance and I had some small missteps she made light of them and turned those moments into funny moments. Everyone in attendance raved about how much they loved her and how laid back and us the ceremony was. Several people asked for her card for their weddings as well. I can't say enough wonderful things about Joyce besides that if you're looking at this you should definitely have her as your minister at your wedding!

Working with Joyce was a great experience from the first phone call through the ceremony itself. She managed to make the ceremony as clear, simple and approachable as possible, giving us a plug and play template to work with and the flexibility to make the ceremony our own. The simplicity of the process did not at all take away from the magic of the ceremony, friends and family all exclaimed how much they loved Joyce's style and assumed we'd known each other for a long time. She saved us money and time, talking us out of the rehearsal and keeping everything straightforward, while still adding humor and warmth to the event. Couldn't be happier.

We were anxious from the start regarding our ceremony and we did not get married in our home town, so we found Joyce on weddingwire (relying on positive reviews during our searches) and we instantly fell in love with her on the phone! She puts a lot of care into her work and she was very helpful with giving us advice on our vows and wedding ceremony in general. She was accommodating and patient with our large bridal party (9 on each side) and performed a rehearsal with us the day before our wedding. She did not bat an eye when we requested to have all four of my younger brothers walk my Mom down the aisle! Joyce arrived on time (AKA early!) to our rehearsal and wedding and she was such a source of calm for my husband and I prior to and during the ceremony when the nerves really started to set in! She worked well with our DJ regarding ceremony music, entrances and microphone coordination. Joyce included everything we asked her to in our ceremony and her personality and accent were a huge hit. Our ceremony was exactly how we imagined it. Our guests LOVED her and we got SO many compliments and questions on how we found her! So lucky she was a special part of our big day. If we could go back, we would hire Joyce again!

Joyce Hilbery was the perfect officiant for my daughter's wedding. Her calm nature and professionalism were the perfect combination to calm nerves and keep everyone on the same page. The ceremony was warm, loving and memorable due to Joyce's choice of format and wording. She added some light hearted moments that kept with the reverence of the occasion while adding smiles on the faces of all who attended. It was perfect!
Her lilting Scottish accent makes even the most ordinary words sound enchanting! And then there are her shoes.......an officiant gown is a somber garment yet Joyce added her personality with floral patterned heels. Highly recommend Joyce Hilbery to any couple!!!!

From the first moment that we spoke with Joyce, we were sure that she was the one for our wedding. Joyce has an amazing energy and spirit about her that made us smile quickly and also provided us with full confidence that she would be able to provide the perfect balance of sincerity and spunk for our ceremony. While in the planning stages, Joyce was very responsive, accommodating, informative, and personable. We never felt like "just another couple" to her and that feeling conveyed on the wedding day as well. We couldn't be happier with Joyce and the services she provided. From Day 1 of meeting, she met us with a hug and a smile. She was easy to speak with and felt as if we had known her for a long time. Joyce is an amazing officiant as well as an amazing person. She was the only officiant my fiance and I met with and we knew right away that she was right for us. Her fun and energetic personality was just what we were looking for. She has a list of ceremony wording options that we could chose from which was very helpful. She is a nondenominational officiant, but we were able to chose readings based on how religious/spiritual we wanted it to be. We were also able to change some of the wording and vows to our liking. She is very quick to respond via email and could answer any question I had. Our ceremony was beautiful, she has such a lovely speaking voice and went through all the readings at the perfect pace. My fiance was very nervous when my ring wouldn't go over my knuckle, and she made a little joke that made everyone laugh and eased his nerves; I believe she said "just spit on it and it will go on!" All of our guests not only commented on how great she was, but also how amazing her shoes were! Joyce is a very nice, caring, and fun person, she was wonderful to work with and we hightly recommend her to anyone!

My (now) husband and I could not have found a better individual to officiate our wedding than in Joyce! She was in constant communication with us throughout the entire process and helped to put together a fantastic, touching ceremony that spoke to us as a couple more than anything. Joyce is a powerhouse - she has authority, direction, and a wonderful sense of humor! We couldn't be happier with our choice to have Joyce officiate our wedding. We also opted to have her do the rehearsal with us and I am so glad we did.
I can't say enough about how organized she was throughout the whole process. We had a very large wedding party, and even though I am a very organized person (I passed out spreadsheets and diagrams of who stands where and who walks with who, etc.) the rehearsal would have been total chaos if Joyce had not taken charge and kindly but firmly directed the rehearsal ceremony.
Her info packet of vows and ceremony ideas was so helpful and allowed us to put together a very tailored and personal ceremony. At the end of our wedding, she also gave us a nice binder that was beautifully organized with all of the text from our ceremony and our marriage license. This will be something that we will save in a special place and read through on our anniversaries.
Joyce was kind, funny and well spoken. She seems to have a genuinely good heart and I am so grateful she was a part of our special day.

Our experience with Joyce Hilbery was amazing. From our first phone contact to our first meeting at lunch, it was evident that Joyce really cared deeply for this couple she was preparing to marry. Joyce infused her heart and soul into her responsibilities as an officiant. She was truly focused on making our experience everything we wanted it to be and made sure she was right by our side prior to our ceremony to keep us calm and to give us the heartfelt advice we needed to hear.
