Capturing Memories
Matt made us feel super comfortable, he gave clear feedback to get the best photos! He does exactly what you ask for and goes above and beyond to make sure he gets every moment captured. He is professional and delivers photos quickly with 2 size options for posting and printing. He answered all emails and was easy to communicate and work with! I highly recommend Matt as your photographer, his photography is amazing and even with the rainy day, captured the most beautiful photos. My husband doesn’t take photos often but after our engagement shoot my husband wasnt nervous to take photos for the wedding all thanks to Matt! Very satisfied and Matt will be our family photographer for all the special moments and occasions! -

Matt was super easy to work with and made the experience so fun. He came out on a holiday in the freezing cold to photograph our wedding and had nothing but a smile. He was even willing to use our Instapix camera to snap a couple of shots! Our entire family loved him, he had great photo ideas and the turn around time was fast. He even snapped a few shots of pelicans flying by after we mentioned how much they mean to us! Not to mention our pictures are gorgeous! We will definitely be using Matt when we need any pictures done in the future. -

We cannot say enough good things about our experience with Matt as our wedding photographer. From the start, he was incredibly easy to communicate with. He was clear, concise, and always making us feel comfortable leading up to the wedding. The booking process was seamless, and he came highly recommended for good reason!
Coming from out of state, it was especially important for us to work with someone who truly knew the area and had strong relationships with other vendors. Matt exceeded every expectation. He and our second photographer, John, arrived right on time and brought such a calming, reassuring presence to our day.
The photos never felt staged or forced. They captured the love, joy, and real moments of our wedding perfectly. Matt was go with the flow which made me feel completely at ease. Photography was one of the most important decisions we made, since it’s what you have to look back on forever, and we have absolutely zero regrets. Matt is exceptional at what he does, and we couldn’t be happier with the memories he preserved for us. -

We can't say enough amazing things about Matt! From start to finish, he was an absolute dream to work with. Not only did he take breathtaking photos that perfectly captured every special moment of our night, but his energy and dedication went above and beyond what we ever expected.
One of our favorite things about Matt was how attentive and proactive he was. Whenever someone pulled out their phone to snap a picture, Matt would run over and offer to take it for them, making sure everyone had beautiful, high-quality memories to take home. He made our guests feel included, and it really showed in the candid, joyful photos he captured throughout the night.
And to top it all off, we had our full gallery back in just ONE week! The turnaround was unbelievably fast, and the quality was absolutely incredible.
Thanks to Matt, we now have a stunning collection of memories that we'll cherish forever.

Working with Matt has been one of the smoothest and most enjoyable experiences I've had recently, certainly when it came to our wedding vendors. When we first met him for our engagement photoshoot at the Whalehead Club, we were instantly comfortable due to his easy-going personality. His knowledge of the area and natural sense for framing and lighting made all our photos turn our beautiful. On our wedding day, he was able to capture every moment, even the small ones, and worked tirelessly to make sure of that. We received our photos just a week after the shoot, which we were also super impressed by given that that there were over 600 in the album he made for us. We would love to work with him again in the future and can't recommend him enough if you are looking for a photographer in the Kill Devil Hills/Duck area. -

We got married on April 12th, 2025 in the place where I grew up going - Corolla, NC! When we were searching for our wedding photographer we were fortunate enough to come across the vibrant and stunning portfolio of Matt Lusk!!
From the first time I inquired, Matt was on top of everything!! He kindly kept in touch with me all along the way to our big day, even when my wedding brain was taking over and delaying my response time! 😄😁
Matt was just as genuine as he appears in his photos and captured our special day perfectly!! He was beyond accommodating and did not bat an eye at special requests we made last minute, ensuring everyone was apart of our wedding day memories!!
While our review is not as timely as we would have liked, we can assure you that Matt's followup time is nothing like ours!!! We had our entire wedding album barely one week after our wedding WHILE WE WERE ON OUR HONEYMOON!!! Just unreal how wonderful it was to get that email while sitting on the sand of St Lucia!!
Matt, we thank you from the depths of our hearts for your incredible work capturing our day, and we also thank you for your genuine spirit and incredible personality throughout our day and experience working with you! Choosing Matt was the perfect choice for our wedding! He was so great to work with. Was very laid back and we had so much fun with him. Me and my quiet shy husband instantly felt relaxed and at ease with him. He went above and beyond to make us and our guests comfortable and get some amazing pictures of everyone and the day. He responded to emails and contact quickly and was very easy to work with. He got some very creative shots as well as very natural ones just cheering us on and snapping photos as we laughed and played on the beach. We recently had our wedding in Buxton at the Inn on Pamlico Sound and had Matt as our photographer. Wow, I can’t possibly say enough good things about him! My husband and I joke that we are terrible at taking photos together, but Matt was so fun and relaxed and it helped us to let loose and have fun. We didn't have much of a plan with regards to which photos we wanted, but Matt got every pose, every angle, every single photo that we could have wanted and he really guided us through it. The pictures turned out stunning, beyond my wildest dreams. He truly captured the beauty of the venue, the day, and our relationship. One thing I absolutely LOVED was the fact that he got beautiful shots of a ton of our guests that we are so excited to include in our thank you cards. He captured every special moment, every tear, every smile, every detail. He was everywhere all night, but I never once felt that I was constantly being pulled for photos. He adapted to the environment and blended in seamlessly. I also totally goofed and didn’t realize that I had booked him an hour short of when our sparkler send off was. Without hesitation he agreed to stay and we got SO many beautiful photos from that hour and the sparkler send off photos are iconic. Just an all around super kind and fun guy, and we are over the moon with our photos and will cherish them forever. I would not have wanted anyone else to capture the magic of our special day. My husband already left an incredible review but I absolutely had to come & leave another because Matt is that great!! Matt took our engagement and wedding photos & did a phenomenal job! He captured the love, excitement and also the beautiful sunsets!! Matt did a great job directing us for photos while also capturing the raw moments as they came. He did a wonderful job being calm, cool and collected & made both my husband and I very comfortable taking photos. He was so go with the flow on our wedding day snapping lots of extra photos as different ideas came up. If you’re looking for a wedding photographer I could not recommend Matt enough. Still looking through all of our beautiful photos trying to decide which ones we want to frame because they are all absolutely breathtaking. -

We are soo happy with our wedding & engagement photos! Matt pays great attention to detail, like the 30mph winds blowing my hair the wrong way or making my dress train look weird. He is really good at guiding you through posing when needed, and he was always there to capture the candid moments. I can be pretty uncomfortable in front of the camera, and my husband isn't the most fond of having photos taken, but not with Matt! Matt made us both feel so calm and comfortable, it was so much fun having our photos taken by him. We truly had a blast at our engagement shoot and when he was taking our wedding photos. It felt like we were hanging out with an old friend. During the ceremony & other moments Matt blended in while he did his thing. I wasn't even aware of his presence a lot of the time, but he was always there capturing the moment. I love the way Matt incorporates the landscape into his photos, it's one of my favorite things about his style. The Northern Lights showed up on our wedding night(!!), and Matt knew exactly what to do to capture that moment beautifully. We got our photos super fast and couldn't be happier with them and the experience! We are incredibly grateful to have our memories captured so perfectly. Matt is hands down the best photographer on the Outer Banks! We first worked with him for our engagement shoot during Golden Hour in the summer of 2023, and it was an unforgettable experience. He immediately made us feel comfortable, keeping us laughing the entire time. His ability to capture our personalities while making the most of natural light and finding perfect poses truly impressed us.
When it came to our wedding at the Sanderling Resort in October 2024, Matt exceeded every expectation. Not only did we receive our photos incredibly quickly, but each image captures the joy and beauty of our day so perfectly that we felt like we were reliving each moment. We hired Matt for wedding ceremony photos and they turned out so amazing! The colors were really crisp and colorful. I told my husband that I have never felt so beautiful in photos. We both felt like movie stars!
Matt talked us through all the different poses, which does not come naturally to either of us…but he made it easy and fun. He was also very thoughtful about the way he positioned himself while taking the ceremony photos .
He also took great candid photos of our wedding guests prior to the ceremony, family group photos afterward, and decorations and food from the venue. They are photos that we will cherish for the rest of our lives. we’d be happy to hire him for any other events. -

Only Great Things to Say About Matt
Not only is Matt the best photographer, he is a great guy and was a pleasure to work with. We were first blown away by the jaw dropping engagement photos he captured of us. AMAZING- you must book for your wedding!
Matt Lusk is the most talented photographer I’ve ever met. From the very beginning Matt’s communication was great, he was clear on what each package had so I was able to make the best decision for our needs. The package I chose included an engagement shoot and Matt showed up on time, picked the best spot, and made me and my husband feel very comfortable! It felt like date night and we got the best photos! Matt sent over forms for me to complete to ensure he understood the “must have” photos, schedule, and family pictures! He was very organized and was totally prepared the day of. We had gloomy weather and my photos still turned out AMAZING! He knew all the right angles, and made sure to get all the poses! I truly look back at my wedding and am so grateful to have the memories all thanks to Matt Lusk for capturing our day. We will have these photos forever and will share them with generations to come. We also got our wedding photos back so quickly and I love that he provides them in 2 copies - printable and resized so you’re able to post! Hire Matt!
We heard about Matt through a friend (who hired him for a family photoshoot). I cannot say enough positive things about him. From our first meeting/video chat to the last few emails after our wedding, Matt has been totally personable and easy to work with. We went with the mid-level package and purchased the USB stick of our photo gallery. He arrived early and ready to shoot. Full disclosure, I'm not great at posing for photos but he took extra care to make sure i looked my best for each photo. We had a small/intimate wedding (13 people) and he managed to get beautiful photos of all of our guests. My husband and I were totally relaxed around him and he truly felt like part of the family.
Hire Matt. You won't be disappointed. -

Matt and his work are utterly fantastic. My husband and I live in Europe and had our wedding in the Outer Banks. Matt was great to work with via email and was very responsive and flexible. My husband and I can be a little awkward in pictures and that made us both a little nervous, but Matt was great to work with, he knew exactly how to make us feel more at ease so we were able to get some great shots for both our engagement shoot and the wedding photos! Matt's turnaround time for providing edited photos is really amazing, only a few days after our engagement shoot and just 2.5 weeks after the wedding and we had our albums. We are absolutely IN LOVE with the photos he captured of us and our families. I highly recommend Matt as your photographer for any occasion but especially weddings! -

Booking Matt was one of our best choices for our little microwedding in the outer banks, NC. He is lovely to work with. He helped my husband and I feel comfortable during two photoshoots. We were worried about it feeling uncomfortable to get our pictures taken, but he gave great direction and also made the process fun and enjoyable. Later, he blended into the wedding group (even such as small group of 13 ppl) during our ceremony and dinner to take incredible candids. He edited our pictures so quickly and we were blown away by the final product. Highly recommend!! -

MATT!! He truly does it all! He is one of the best on the OBX. He photographed an engagement session for us on the beach in February (BRRR!) We are lucky we had him because he helped us forget about the cold. We had a blast doing it! He takes his time and worked with us for all the shots we wanted! In October this past year Matt was also our wedding photographer! We are so happy we went with him. He has a very calming demeanor and helps your day go about with ease. He was like a fly not he wall and captured so. many. beautiful candid moments, including a picture of my older sisters and I sharing a hug. No challenge is too big for Matt! We had a large bridal party and in order to get the shot he wanted he climbed on his other photographs BACK on a BRIDE to get the perfect shot! He will tackle any situation with you! We got our photos back with an incredible turn around time. The quality is outstanding! We had a wedding of 125 guests and I swear he photographed EVERY single one of our guests having a great time! We loved being able to share these with our guests when we got them back! We had the best wedding day and Matt played such a big role in that, we are forever grateful! BOOK HIM!! -

Matt was the first vendor we booked after the venue! We read the reviews, reviewed his photos, and had some great laughs and conversation even in our first meeting on the phone. From day one through getting our photos was seamless. He really gets to know you! We were running short on time at our wedding due to the impeding rain and he managed to sneak in breathtaking shots even with the time crunch. There is nothing else to say except AMAZING! Fun, easy and amazing
Photography was the most important thing for me for our wedding. From the start matt put us at ease and no stress came throughout the entire experience of having him as our photographer. We had to move our wedding multiple times and back and forth places because of covid and he was flexible and adjusting everything. When it comes down to the wedding day him and his wife kept it very calm and relaxed which made for amazing pictures. If I said I wanted something in the middle of doing other pictures, we did it. And they turned out to be our most beautiful ones yet. He added on time only a few weeks out and continued to make it so easy. Thank you isn’t enough. Our pictures are unbelievable, we are so grateful for that and for him making it so seamless for us throughout three years of working together. -

I don't even know where to begin with how strongly I would recommend Matt as a wedding photographer. I was in complete shock when I looked through the photo album and saw the pictures. I could hardly believe that it was really my husband and I. The work he does is incredible. He captured every moment, big and small, that we can now relieve as much as we want. The photos look so natural, yet enhanced and better then you can imagine. Even my aunt who spent the majority of her career has a wedding videographer in NYC & RI said that these were some of the best quality wedding photos she has ever seen. In addition to the beautiful work he does, Matt is also a blast to work with. I am not a huge fan of having my picture taken but Matt made it as easy and as fun as possible. He even incorporated some of my favorite hobbies (like fishing) into the shoot and somehow turned me fishing in a pond in my dress into an elegant photo. I didn't have to make a single request or worry about certain pictures not being taken once throughout the night.. He was always right in the middle of everything going on.... which is hard because I don't think my family left the dancefloor once that night. My now husband and I fell in love with Matt’s pictures on his Instagram and knew we wanted him to be our photographer. My initial phone call with him only solidified that decision. He answered all of my questions and helped me figure out a start time for my wedding. Up until the wedding day he helped me figure out a full timeline and answered any questions I had promptly. Matt is so positive, upbeat, and knowledgeable. He truly makes you feel happier just by being around him. It rained nonstop on our wedding day. We had to change all of our plans and move the ceremony and reception inside. Furniture and decor was being moved around. It was gloomy outside, and hectic inside.. Well, Matt made my wedding day look like an absolute DREAM! You would never know how dark and rainy it was outside. You would never know how hectic things were inside. Everything in our pictures looks so beautiful, and perfect!!! By the time we did our after ceremony photos, the living room area was pretty dark, but by looking at our photos you would never know. We had things shuffled around and he captured the beautiful parts of the day and none of the mess. Matt was able to find a small part of the evening where it wasn’t raining as hard, and braved the inclement weather to get us some beautiful outside shots. He also captured amazing shots of our dog who doesn’t like to stay still for long! He was great with her! I still can’t get over all the magic he worked!!! And he remained so calm and cheerful during a hectic day. I truly can’t recommend him enough!!! -

After we booked our wedding venue, finding a photographer was next on our list. We initially found Matt through our venue's preferred vendor list and after reading his reviews and looking through his photos from other weddings, we knew we wanted Matt to photograph our wedding day. This was a decision we never regretted - from the very moment we reached out to Matt to inquire about his services, he was extremely responsive, and remained so through the entire process. Matt made the entire wedding photography experience so easy and relaxed - he is decisive and easy going and didn't take an excessive amount of time to take photos after the ceremony so we could still enjoy every part of our wedding day. One Word: Amazing!
We hired Matt Lusk for our wedding photographer in OBX, as well as our engagement photos. The photos were absolutely beautiful on both occasions! Booking a good photographer was one of the most important vendor choices for me, and Matt and his assistant did not disappoint! Matt was super quick to respond to our inquiries and made everything a breeze, which was definitely important to us as we were booking vendors from a distance (we lived in PA at the time). We got multiple quotes but after talking to Matt on the phone, we instantly knew he was our guy! He is very laid back, which made for a relaxed atmosphere and helped calm some of those "day-of jitters" as I knew we were in good hands. He and his assistant John did a great job of capturing every moment of the day and blended in seamlessly at both the wedding and reception. We had pretty high winds on our wedding day, which I had some concerns about, but the photos turned out perfect! We received our photos just about 2 weeks after our wedding day, which I thought was a very quick turnaround time. We were super impressed with the quality of the photos, including both the staged/posed photos as well as some amazing candid shots that he was able to get throughout the reception. There are no words to express how awesome Matt is! We were one of the first weddings after the pandemic started with our wedding venue, group size and hours changing, etc, etc last minute! Matt was the first vendor that we booked for our wedding. This was the most important vendor for me, every couple has certain things that are more important to them and photographs was something that fell at the top of our list. We booked Matt off of work that we had seen when looking at different photographers in the area. Matt's work speaks for itself, but theres another important piece of working with a photographer and thats the person behind the lens. Having someone take multiple pictures of you (in this case, all day long) can be uncomfortable for some people and they might feel awkward but that wasn't the case with working with Matt. Not only did he make my husband feel at ease and relaxed (thank god) but he's just an awesome guy to hang out with. He's someone you want at your wedding, on your guest list. He just makes the day fun and light hearted. We had such a blast with him that day and can't wait to hang out with him again next time we are in the OBX. Matt also gave us a discount on his charter the week of the wedding and took my husband and his wedding party out fishing. They had such a great time and I'd also recommend any couple to have Matt take you fishing, he knows his fishing. The second shooter, John who worked with Matt at our wedding was such an awesome guy too, we didn't feel like the vendors we hired were their working and doing a job, we genuinley felt that they were just hanging out with us having a fun night and I think that's really something special. Matt has a close relationship with lots of the vendors in the OBX and I think that's really important when you have a bunch of vendors together that work so well off of one another. Our wedding photos really captured the emotion of our wedding day which you don't always see when you look at wedding photos. My husband and I have been looking for the words to describe our fairytale experience with Matt and his wife Annie on the day of our wedding. From the moment those two walked into both of our houses they were taking photos and capturing raw, candid and emotional moments that perfectly describe our day. Matt was the most enjoyable photographer whom we have ever worked with. His correspondences were always very clear and he answered emails in less than 24 hours. Working with him was easy and stress-free from the very beginning, and he was very flexible and understanding with our requests of him. We were planning our wedding long distance, so the first time we met Matt was on our actual wedding day. From the moment he arrived he had a smile on his face and it felt like we were hanging out with an old friend. He made us feel at ease and very natural during our portraits. He had obvious expertise when it came to lighting and backdrops (which showed in our wedding photos). Most people had recommended getting two photographers if you want to capture every moment of your wedding day, but unfortunately, that was not within our budget. Therefore, I was in awe when looking through our wedding photos when I realized that somehow Matt had captured literally every moment of our wedding day, even moments where I wasn't even aware he was there. He had recommended that we go back out for a few photos during the golden hour (which we hadn't initially planned on) but we were so grateful for his recommendation because the photos were just magical. When it was time to wrap up the night, he didn't leave at exactly the moment we had discussed but he waiting until he captured all the important moments (such as the cake cutting) before heading him. His passion for his work was apparent in how hard he was working during our wedding day. I have heard of couples waiting months for their wedding photos, so I was once again pleasantly surprised when we received ours a little over a week after our wedding! It was such a nice surprise to come home to after our honeymoon. All of our friends and family could not stop complimenting our wedding photos, using words such as "magical, fairytale, natural, and effortless" to describe the photos. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Matt, and if you don't book him for your wedding your making a big mistake.
Lastly- another huge deciding factor for us choosing Matt as our wedding photographer is that he signs over the rights to his wedding photos (which most photographers I have worked with in the past do not). This fact is SO IMPORTANT because this enables you to be able to order your prints through other vendors and your not limited to the one which whom the photographer works with. -

Matt and his assistant John exceeded our expectations! I told him what I wanted and he made it happen! We did our first look and wedding group pictures at Bodie lighthouse then got married at Jennette's Pier. We got our wedding pictures back within two weeks and I can't get over how good they are! During our reception, I felt I could find a photographer at any point to take a picture if we wanted it. We got so many wonderful comments from our guest as well about how awesome they were! Matt is our wedding photographer, but we were lucky enough to have him take our engagement pictures before the wedding. We aren’t getting married until October, but we were blown away by our engagement shoot with him! Matt and his second shooter, John did an amazing job at our wedding on 10/20/18. I usually pick myself apart in photos and being the bride...I was especially nervous that I wouldn't like how I looked on such a big, important day. First, the talent of wedding photographers in the OBX is just incredible!
When we were first researching photographers for our wedding, we had finally narrowed it down to a few whose techniques we loved -- and then set up meet & greets with them at the OBX Wedding Association Expo in January. The choice was getting tough, until we met with Matt Lusk. Matt and Annie were so friendly and gave off such a genuine vibe, that my fiance and I knew immediately that we had to have him a part of our special day. Throughout the next 9 months or so, Matt was incredibly responsive to any questions we had, and worked with us to pick the right package. He and John were amazing the day-of -- we didn't even notice they were there during the ceremony or reception, and the beauty of that is the photos turned out so natural and captured the raw emotion of the day. He kept us to our timeline, while still incorporating all of the important photos that we needed (and we had quite a large wedding party!) and I can't stop looking at all of the photos from that day -- they are pure magic.
The value of hiring Matt Lusk Photography for your wedding is even more heightened by the quality and professionalism of his work. He makes you feel at ease during those always awkward staged photos (I mean unless you're a professional model, it's so hard to act natural) but somehow I feel like we were a team of supermodels looking at our pictures! Matt photographed our wedding in Nov at Jennette's Pier. At the time of the ceremony, it became extremely windy, so a lot of the shots that he had planned on doing out on the pier weren't possible (plus we weren't willing to be wind struck and cold anymore!). Despite that, Matt did a fantastic job. He found great lighting and backgrounds of the ocean and sky that are absolutely breathtaking in pictures.
Throughout the process, Matt was always willing to answer questions, was extremely responsive and punctual and easy to work with. I'm so happy we chose him...he made the day great! -

What captivated me most about Matt Lusk Photography was not just his unique and beautiful eye for detail, but the candid emotions and blink-of-the-eye moments captured among the guests and wedding parties. C Sent on 06/21/2018Matt was so easy to work with and is very talented. He didn't require any direction really from us, which was great, because we didn't have much to give! We were able to do our beach photos with each other and still get back to the party in time to enjoy cocktails! We never had photos taken together, and yet, it was very natural and fun. He was so expert at taking photos, that you didn't even notice he was there for the ceremony or reception, and still--he got every shot. He was worth every penny we paid. Everyone commented on how much they loved the photos. My mom's only comment was that she was hoping for more of a close-in shot on the family...but again, we gave NO direction! So, if you have specific requests (as apparently my mom did...what mom doesn't?) then make them! And I was very pleased with everything, including the really fast turnaround. I had a hard time selecting my favorites; I have yet to order prints because I just can't decide! I highly recommend Matt to photograph your day!Matt Lusk Photography's reply:
Thanks so much for the wonderful review!! :) I shoot the family photos full length with room around the edges so you have room to crop in when ordering prints with different dimensions (4x6 vs 5x7 vs 8x10 etc).
