    Forever grateful

    No review I could write will be able to express our gratitude for Mary and her team during our wedding.

    We hired Mary Rios Events as our day of coordinator, and we are so grateful we did. Leading up to the event, Mary provided me with detailed checklists and to-do’s to make sure I had everything ready for our big day. I thought having a micro-wedding would be a breeze, but there was still so much to do (and so many things I forgot to do), that having Mary’s help and guidance was a god send.

    On the big day Mary ensured everything ran smoothly and perfectly. My husband and I didn’t have to worry about a thing but enjoying ourselves and our families. Even when we experienced some day of hiccups with our venue, Mary was there to right everything and keep everything flowing.

    Mary’s professionalism, communication, and attention to detail was exactly what we needed on our beautiful day. Her love of her craft and care of her clients was so apparent in everything she did and every interaction she had with our guests and other vendors. I can’t even imagine how our day would have gone if she was not there with us every step of the way.

    Mary, thank you doesn’t feel like enough for everything you did to ensure our day was as magical and perfect as we hoped it would be. We will be forever grateful for your support before, during, and even after.

    Mary rios is the best

    Mary and Marlene took me through a pandemic and back, and got me married as if no time had gone by at all. It was seamless and perfect; and that's why you need Mary Rios Events your life. Because if a storm hits, and it will with wedding planning, you want the best Boat Captain to pilot your ship back to shore safely. That's Marlene and Mary from MRE.

    MRE helped plan my 250 person destination wedding in 2020. 3 weeks before our wedding date, the pandemic shut us down. My husband and I re-scheduled our wedding 3 times before we got married this April 2021. #Finally
    The only reason I don't feel much like a "covid bride" is because of my incredible wedding planner and her team. They made sure I felt like a bride, always. Delicate, special, glowing, all the things... they made sure I could enjoy every moment of planning our wedding.
    They fielded difficult phone calls, helped make tough decisions, and I especially appreciate that they made great suggestions when I asked for guidance with vendors. Their commercial knowledge, especially in the Houston market, made me confident in their experience level, judgement, taste, and ability to throw a well-orchestrated, fun, large event.

    Being a Covid bride...wedding re-planning seemed impossible at times. I was discouraged, unsure, frustrated, indignant. It takes a lot of work to pick up a wedding and move it to a new date. Mary knew what to do every step of the way. She and Marlene guided me through every new invitation, new order of events, New contracts with vendors etc. when picking new wedding dates. Marlene communicated with every vendor, me, and my family all the way through so we were always in the loop. She thought of things I didn't know I was supposed to think of.

    Truth be told: Mary and Marlene were my rock. They stepped up and helped make sure we pulled off the wedding of my dreams. From La Hora Loca carnival dancers, to flying in Chicago Deep Dish pizza, -I can't thank them enough. Look no further for the your wedding planner, MRE is the best.

    My Perfect Weekend!

    I was directed to Mary Rios events through my venue McGovern Centennial Gardens. I was looking for a weekend wedding coordinator. I was a covid bride and after an introduction email, we set up a zoom call during quarantine. The rest was history! She provided me with excellent service at a great price. Her organization was beyond what I could ever imagine by myself. She had an assistant, Becky, who did a wonderful job. They made a great team. Mary and her team would come up with questions I didn’t even know I was supposed to ask vendors! She was always available to talk. I lived in Dallas and got married in Houston and she was never more than a phone call away. She has a lot of experience and it shows in her suggested timelines, “friendors” she recommends, and advice she gives. My husband and I were very pleased with our choice to use Mary Rios Events and we highly recommend her to anyone in the Houston area.

    Great experience with MRE!

    Mary and her team were very kind and really helped us with our wedding vision. Unfortunately we had to scrap our original plans due to COVID-19, but Mary was very understanding and helpful when it came to putting together a plan for a small and intimate, and most importantly, safe ceremony and reception for our closest friends and family. She handled all of our vendors and also helped to calm our nerves with all the uncertainty that came with a worldwide pandemic. I would definitely recommend working with Mary Rios Events!

    The Mary Rios Events team is professional and talented, and I truly would not have survived the wedding planning process or my wedding day without them.     Galvez Sista's

    Hiring the Mary Rios team was the most important vendor we booked for our big day. Becky was my wedding coordinator, and she went above and beyond all expectations I had! We shared the common bond of having our weddings at the Hotel Galvez and I knew she was the right one for the job. Leading up to the event they are making sure you have gone over every detail to make your wedding spectacular and have your own stamp on it. The attention to detail helped me rest easy, knowing all the time and energy I personally put into planning our wedding would follow through seamlessly. If you think you don't need a wedding planner/coordinator you are sadly mistaken. Spend the extra money, even if only for the weekend of event. You want be fully present on your wedding day (it fly's by). Becky and Marlene made sure to run the show while I enjoyed every minute with my Husband, Family and Friends!!!

    Becky made it so we could enjoy our wedding! She's AMAZING!

    As the title references, I worked with Becky Wendel from Mary Rios Events. I found MRE through a list of preferred vendors provided by my venue, the JW Marriott Downtown. When I was planning my wedding, I was also working a full-time job and going to graduate school in the evenings. I always knew that I wanted to use a planner because of this but didn't know the extent to which I would need them. Surprisingly, it actually isn't that difficult to book and plan with other major vendors that are needed for the wedding. I could do that on my own in advance. However, I was scared of managing the details on the day of on my own. My goal was to do nothing the day of the wedding but show off and, if possible, allow my family to just show up as well instead of getting pulled in to help. I knew I would need a planner for this, specifically.

    I met with at least 5 planners before deciding to go with MRE. At our intro meeting over lunch, my fiance and Becky bonded over their alma mater, Texas Tech. This was awesome for me because he felt more comfortable with her. It was clear from our conversation that we had no idea what we were doing. We had a very basic idea of what we wanted for our wedding - no ceremony, only reception with an upscale but cozy party feel - and had a great idea of what we didn't want but we were missing a lot of details in the middle.

    Becky asked us a lot of questions and gave us an idea of what she would need from us in the future if we decided to work together. This was so valuable to us because it was essentially our homework and helped guide us to making more decisions that we had missed. The other planners that I met at this point did not push as far at the intro meeting to give me a sense for what it would be like to work with them up to the day-of.

    I had two more meetings with Becky after formally engaging with her. One was a mid-planning session where we got significantly further on setting details. The last one was prior to the wedding and tackled the tiny tiny details (in my mind) like an inventory of what I would provide her, what the guest list should look like, final headcount, etc. These meetings were great for me to stay on track while the work and school parts of my life were going crazy,

    On the day-of... AMAZING. Just completely amazing. I never thought I would be a bride that would have a meltdown. Wrong. I had booked a bunch of rooms at the JW for my family and had been receiving email confirmations for their rooms and realized that I never got one for my own. I called them the morning of the wedding, only hours before I was supposed to meet my make up artist there, and found out they had booked me to check in the evening before and cancelled the room because I was a "no-show". Now the hotel was booked and I, the bride for the only wedding at the hotel that evening, had no room.

    I called her crying and she stepped in to calm me down and assure that she would take care of it. I really think that set the tone for the rest of the day. Once I got there and started getting my make up done, she would occasionally pop into the room to give me an update of what was going on downstairs. She shared so much of my excitement, anticipation, and joy and this was very important to me because I didn't have a bridal party. She was my girl!

    After the ceremony, she touched up my make up because I bawled throughout the same thing. She and her assistant bustled my dress, handed us cocktails and sent us out mingle with our guests.

    What a lot of people say to engaged couples about their weddings are things like: it'll all fly by, you won't remember anything, you won't be able to eat, etc. What they don't tell you is why. The reason why all these things happen is because you've carefully curated a group of guests that consists of the people who mean most to you. Your wedding will probably be the one time in life when all of the people you care about from family, work, school, etc are all in the same room at the same time just for you. Of course you get carried away talking to them and spending time with all of them! I remember everything.

    But this exactly reason is why you need Becky. She will shepherd you throughout the evening and will make sure you eat, will serve as your telephone, will get you in the right place at the right time for dances, speeches, toasts, and cake cutting. Without her, I guarantee our night would have been so unorganized and the DJ would have been burdened with doing this from his spot at the front.

    All in all, I cannot recommend Becky and the MRE team enough. In the immediate days after the wedding, I would cry thinking about them. Becky did so much for us and for that we are forever grateful. I continue to recommend them to my friends and family and encourage you to consider them as you tackle wedding planning!

    Mary Rios Events is The Best in TEXAS!

    We used Mary Rios Events through a referral and it was the best decision! She has different tiers of service. If you want to participate in zero percent of the planning, she will do everything, or if you are like me, I wanted to help out a lot, she let me take the reins on somethings. Mary and her team have great relationships with multiple vendors and Mary understood my exact taste and knew the exact vendors to work with. The entire Mary Rios team is extremely organized and they give great advice. We had an exact budget and they took that budget seriously. Mary helped to cut costs in places that were not necessary. Mary would even keep my mother in the loop on the budget! Mary has an automatic email calendar that sends out reminders of what payments are coming up and their amounts. Mary and her team are so cute, friendly, girly, yet powerful. If you are looking for a wedding planning team, look no further!!!!!!

    Mother of the bride

    We were introduced to Mary Rios Events (MRE) by our reception venue The Julia Ideson Library. MRE was by far the best investment we made for our daughter’s wedding. They offered excellent attention to details, invaluable hands on experience and a list of proven vendors to meet our needs. MRE staff spent a significant amount of time attending to our needs. You can’t go wrong choosing MRE for the coordination of your wedding!

    Incredible!

    What I love about Mary is that she took the time to get to know us. She was professional, honest when we needed it and communicated effectively. I completely forgot to get a table cover/cloth for our cake table and she managed to set an appt at a place where we were able to just walk in and choose one; she took care of the rest. From helping me fix my dress (plenty of times), making our dance floor Bitmoji happen, to finding my groom when he got lost (lol), she made us feel like we put our special day in the hands of our best friend. She made our wedding day stress free. I could truly go on and on but I’ll just let you all experience it for yourself. Absolutely. worth. it. Thank you, Mary, for all that you did for us!

    Marlene was the sweetest coordinator and helped with everything. She made my wedding day so easy, I don’t remember having to ask for anything because she was already on it! My weeding was done in 1 WEEK and she made it look like we’d been planning it for months! Choosing Marlene was the best choice I made! Thank you so much!!

    I can not tell you how thankful I was to have Becky Wendel as a wedding coordinator for my wedding. She was ALWAYS on top of things from the second we hired her. She helped me calm my nerves even when I had a fall out with my hair and makeup company and quickly referred me to another company. She was so organized, prompt, and super sweet. She felt like a best friend that just helped me organize this wild party into a elegant wedding. And Marlene was also a gem the day of! She helped me with ANYTHING I needed the day of.

    We found Becky and Mary Rios Events by luck. Becky was a dream to work with. Her recommendations for a florist, a caterer and anything else we inquired about were perfect matches for us. Our daughter’s wedding was exactly what she wanted. When we opened the doors to enter the wedding area, my knees almost buckled. Our daughter’s vision for the space was before us. The reception space was stunningly beautiful as well. Thanks to Becky and Mary Rios Events for getting us to the right vendors for a dream come true wedding weekend!

    Mary and Becky were absolutely amazing, both in pre-wedding meetings and on the wedding day itself! They were incredibly professional, but so warm and accommodating. The peace of mind that they gave me the month leading up to my wedding dramatically decreased any stress that I might have felt. Not to mention the wedding day itself! It was raining all morning, but I didn't have a moment to worry about it, and I felt confident knowing that Mary and Becky were taking care of all of the details. They even had the forethought to bring a cute, clear, plastic umbrella so that my photographer could capture some shots in the rain of my husband and I! Their attention to detail was unparalleled. Would highly recommend hiring Mary Rios Events for your special day!

    Though it may seem like I only give out 5 star ratings, I don't. It's just that Mary and her team were that good! From the first meeting she really listened, and then used it to make our dreams come true. I was not convinced in the beginning that we even needed a coordinator, but I am so thankful that we did because not only did she make the day perfect, but now we consider both Mary and Becky good friends. Thanks to the whole team!

    Best investment we made. Worth every penny! She is incredibly organized, helpful, and cool under pressure. She went above and beyond for us to ensure that we had a great time at our wedding. Even literally loaning me the clothes off her back when I needed them (I'll spare the details- but just know it was an amazing gesture)!

    Mary has a magnetic personality and it's easy to be instantly charmed bubbly and upbeat character. She's friendly and fun to be around, and she makes you her priority and goes out of her way to be helpful and make sure you aren't stressed out by all of the details. It was way more than we could have expected! We had a somewhat complicated wedding, and she essentially saved-the-day. We couldn't have done it without her.

    Amber McKamey and Mary did a great job helping us get everything organized and take the burden off our shoulders so that we could just enjoy our wedding. They communicated with all vendors and made sure everyone else did their jobs. We would definitely recommend their services.

    Mary Rios was SO AWESOME from start to finish. She met every need we had and answered every question promptly. Anyone who is looking for a wedding planner, she is HIGHLY recommended.     Mary is absolutely amazing.... There was no way we could have done any of this without her. With the loading area having limited access to the building and only a couple of hours to setup she pulled off the impossible. She did an amazing job getting the vendors in and out within a timely manner and made sure everything was on schedule. I know my bride was grateful and so was I. Both Mary and her assistant Marlene helped in ways we never thought possible. Mary you know what you did for my wife, lol.... I feel Mary was looking out for our best interest and made sure things ran as smoothly as possible. Mary's service went well beyond our expectations. She wasn't just another vendor, she was personal and she took the time to get to know us as a couple, to see our vision for the our wedding and she made it a reality.
    In all honesty it was the best money we invested in our wedding, hands down.

    Mary was fantastic to work with! She is so knowledgeable and has great contacts with so many vendors - many of whom ended up making our day such a success! She's very responsive and really just cared about making sure we got the wedding that we wanted. We got with her in June 2015 in advance of our May 2016 wedding.

    We wanted to be a little hands on, so we did the final month package. Mary was always available to run emails through about vendor recommendations or other things we had questions on, and then she took the reins from us when we got within a month. And having her (and Amber!) run our weekend was such a burden off of us - we knew we were in great hands and that everything would go smoothly (SPOILER: it did), and all of our guests were just able to enjoy our celebration. We can't recommend Mary Rios Events enough!

    Mary was a pleasure to work with overall. I didn't interact with her as much as my wife, but i know that she was a wonderful support system leading up to and the day of our wedding. From my perspective, everything went off without a hitch and our wedding was less stressful and more successful, because of her involvement.

    Mary was absolutely amazing!! She really made our day go as perfectly as it possibly could. We truly could not have done it without her. I planed most of the wedding and booked all vendors on my own and only had Marys help with last month details and day of coordinating.... its crazy how many last minute details are packed into that final month before the wedding! There is not way I could have finished it all on my own. I was so stressed and she made everything go so smoothly. Even though I had so much done before I had her I feel like Mary's work and planning went far beyond anything I had already done. My husband was very pleased with her as well, her bubbly and down to earth personality Is hard not to love. We would recommend her 1000 times over!

    I chose the day-of-wedding coordinator package and let me tell you, it was much more than that! Mary went above and beyond for our wedding and was some of the best money we spent. She made sure everything went without a hiccup, or at least she made us think it was that way! (which is what you want the day of your wedding). Mary went out of her way to help out my mom a couple days before as we were completely overwhelmed and I still had to work. All the details would not have been perfect without Mary. She was truly a joy to work with and I recommend her to anyone that wants a detail-oriented, pleasant, wedding planner. The wedding would not have been a complete hit without her!

    Initially I was hesitant on hiring wedding planner, however, after our first meeting with Mary- she quickly put my concerns at ease. Mary is professional, efficient, and the most meticulous person I've ever met. There isn't anything that gets by Mary. From the caterer to the linens, Mary knew her stuff and voiced any concerns or opinions when she saw we couldn't decide on something ourselves. Her dedication to us throughout the process was refreshing and helped calm a lot of nerves. One example of Marys dedication to her clients is her willingness to go the extra mile if the need presented itself. My then fiances wedding dress somehow got wrinkled while in transit from the hotel to the venue. I got a phone call and was told that Mary offered to buy a steamer and bring it the venue to fix the problem. Needless to say I was impressed with the gesture. She's willing to go above and beyond her job duties to make things easier on the bride and groom. Any requests or concerns we had, Mary was just a phone call away. We received nothing but compliments from our guests about how nice and organized the wedding was. Everyone had a great time, and we owe that all to Mary and her team. Hiring her was the best decision we made throughout the entire planning process. We couldn't be happier with our wedding. From start to finish, it was perfect.     First of all, this review is for Amber and Becca from Mary Rios. We booked for the "Day of Coordinating" service and they were fantastic!

    Amber is AMAZING! I don't know where I would have been if it wasn't for her to keep me on track with my final meetings with the vendors and with organizing the events on the day of our wedding. She was on top of everything and I felt at total ease on the day of my wedding because I knew everything will unfold flawlessly under Amber's watchful eyes.

    We had six, very unruly groomsmen and Amber and Becca were soooo good at keeping them under control. I was skeptical when we budgeted for the wedding planner in the beginning of my wedding planning stage but OMG, hiring the Day of Coordinator was THE BEST DECISION I made in terms of wedding planning. I was totally stress free on the day of the wedding and on the day after the wedding because Amber and Becca packed everything up! I LOVE THEM!!!

    Mary was wonderful!! She is so very organized!! On the day of the wedding, I felt very confident that everything would go as planned and it did! I was able to focus on the bride and sharing that special day with her instead of worrying about every little detail. Of course, we had last minute changes and Mary handled them so professionally and always with a smile. Because I do not live in Houston and my daughter's wedding was in a church in the Memorial area and her reception at The Houstonian Hotel, I really depended on Mary to coordinate the timing and moving of wedding party, family and guests.     First of all, let me say that Mary Rios is a WEDDING GOD! She was the best "vendor" I found! She was organized, kept me on track, had tons of helpful checklists, asked me questions I never would have thought of, and just did an incredible job. After the wedding, I had guests (family/friends) tell me how awesome my wedding coordinator was. What a strange thing to compliment someone on after a wedding! But seriously, I completely understood why they said that. The place looked great and her assistant was equally awesome. There were snaffous on the wedding day with other vendors, but they were all fixed by Mary without me or my husband even knowing about it until after the honeymoon.

    She is a doll to work with and incredible at what she does. I cant imagine having gone through my wedding without her!

    Mary was exactly what I needed to make my wedding come together even better than I imagined! She was able to recommend vendors in my budget and has great working relationships with multiple key vendors, including at my venue (the Julia Ideson Library). She has a great personality and flexible style and always had everything under control. She brought in extra interns at no cost to help make sure everything ran smoothly the day of. I really felt that she went far above my expectations both in the planning stages and in execution on the wedding day. The best part was knowing that she would take care of everything and I could just sit back and enjoy our day! I am amazed by how well she was able to keep everything organized and on track without ever making it feel stressful to me - and I am a very detail-oriented person!! :) Mary is a joy to work with and I would highly recommend her to anyone - it was money very well spent!     As the FATHER of the bride, I was initially skeptical of the value of a Wedding Planner. I was wrong!!! Mary took the reins of our wedding and worked very closely with us to make sure the event was a complete success. Her cost was MORE than offset by some of the savings she was able to get us through her contacts, and the lack of stress we had on the Wedding day. I would recommend her to anyone.

    There are not enough words to describe how much we appreciated Mary and Marlene during our wedding "season." They were both completely professional, fun, and paid attention to what WE wanted. They made sure to put US first every step of the way. Mary was very sensitive to my "roller coaster" of emotions the day of my wedding :) and she made sure I was comfortable every step of the way. I felt like I was talking to my childhood friend that day! I would NOT have been able to do it without them! It was so comforting to have someone else know exactly what I wanted down to an art (it was like they were in my head).     My wedding was on October 19, 2013 in Houston, Texas.

    The biggest challenge was that we live in New York and had to plan our wedding from a time zone away. I haven’t lived in Houston for many years and didn’t know where to start. I didn’t know what vendors to even consider, but I knew I needed a wedding planner. I chose Mary Rios because someone had mentioned she is great and also because her reviews on line were excellent. So here I am writing another great review for her.
    Mary is a wonderful wedding planner and I highly recommend her for the following reasons:
    - She gave me good recommendations on vendors (flowers, photographers, make-up artists, etc). Since I live out of state, this was extremely valuable to me.
    - She always made herself available by promptly answering my e-mails and my calls.
    - She has a very nice personality, a pleasure to be around. One day before the wedding, we were missing a couple of items. She went to the store and bought them for us. We didn’t have to get caught up in any minor details.
    - I would describe her as “on top of her work” which gave me confidence that she would take care of everything. The day of the wedding, she delivered. The only thing that I had to worry about was getting myself ready. She coordinated with all the vendors, made sure the decorations were all in place, and that the evening flowed seamlessly. While we were dancing the night away, she went up to our room and put rose pedals all over the bed and around the bath tub (which was a cute surprise when my husband and I went up to our room). After the reception, she made sure the presents, cards, and even some wedding cake were there waiting for us in the room.
    In my opinion, Mary Rios was an excellent wedding planner – she has the personality and the attention to detail needed to deal with even the most insufferable bridezilla I have a very busy job and I wouldn’t have been able to plan our wedding without her help. I highly recommend her.

    We hired Mary Rios to coordinate the weekend of our wedding, and I have nothing but great things to say. She was extremely organized, professional, responsive, and guided me throughout the process. She provided referrals, attended vendor meetings (there was an additional cost for my package, but I needed the help), and conducted the rehearsal when the minister could not attend. The wedding day went exactly as planned; if it didn't, we had no clue! She took care of everything. Even when someone spilled red wine down the back of my dress, she rushed me to the bathroom so no one would see and immediately cleaned it up. I would recommend Mary Rios Events, not only for your sanity, but for the sake of your family as well. They can breathe a bit easier knowing someone else is running the show.

    I am the mother of the groom and was asked by the bride to help with wedding planning. We were so very fortunate to find Mary Rios. She is a beautiful person both inside and out and a delight to work with. Mary answered all our calls and inquiries promptly and sweetly. She is excellent at what she does and with her help and suggestions she helped make the wedding day perfect. Many of our guests said it was the best wedding they have ever been to and we have Mary to thank for that. Her last minute touches to the reception an honeymoon suite in the hotel were surprising and absolutely beautiful. We have learned the value of a good wedding planner and Mary is the best you could hope for. Thank you Mary!     Mary was wonderful for our January 2013 wedding at The Houstonian. I chose the month prior to the wedding package and it was exactly what I wanted. I had picked a good portion of my vendors already and then when she met with me six weeks before our wedding she helped me pull it all together. She was so organized and such an asset to us during this stressful time. She was able to get many vendor discounts for us just because of her connections and visibility on preferred vendor lists. (Everyone really likes to work with her too which is a big plus). Mary eliminated our stress and allowed us to enjoy the evening just as we had planned. She even ran to the restroom with us to sew up my dress when someone stepped on my gown on the dance floor. Great experience - wouldn't have had it any other way. Loved her and you will too!

    I purchased the Full Service Package from Mary Rios and could not have been happier with my decision. Wedding planning is not easy especially when you have a demanding full time job. I was extremely pleased with her willingness to work with my busy schedule to set meetings with necessary vendors. The biggest problem I had was staying in budget. It is easy to get carried away with the little (costly) details such as fondant, sparklers, cheese fountains, fruit sculptures, etc. but Mary kept me level headed about what was most valuable for our day. I would recommend her services to family and friends.

    Mary exceeded my expectations. My wedding was beautiful and well planned out. Of her three packages (day of, final month and full coordination) I chose the final month coordination. I highly recommend this package because she was timely with all of her responses and well versed in alot of the venues and needs. When you book her for the final month, you actually don't just get to talk to her that last month, you actually have access to her via e-mail and phone throughout the whole process so she can answer questions as you need it! Some people are not meant for this job, but Mary was born for it. She remembers everything you say, she's organized and she is incredibly professional. Additionally, if I had the insight I do now...     I recently worked with Mary for my March 30,2013 wedding and she was THE best investment we made towards our wedding. I knew a year ago that I wanted a wedding coordinator but I had no idea until the morning after our wedding how valuable it would be, and Mary was the best choice I could have made. I had hired her for the Wedding Weekend package but for the last month before the wedding Mary was available for advice through phone, text and email and she always responded quickly, which you appreciate when you deal with other vendors who never reply! Her personality is so sweet and genuine, yet she gets the job done! And I loved that. I was a pretty detailed bride and I appreciate that she is JUST as detailed, yet she never tried to take over things I had already planned, she just offered her professional opinion and advice where it was needed. She also has great referrals for different companies/vendors (for example for me it was a wedding night hotel, sparklers for our exit, candy bar bags, and candy) if you are still missing certain aspects of your wedding. Mary has a personality that I dont see many people not getting along with, which is great because the last thing you want is to dislike your wedding planner! Im glad to say that she made me feel like we were friends which made working with her even better. All her attention to detail made our day go so smoothly. I know it would not have been the amazing day it was if it wasn't for her. The day after even my family was telling me how well she did. Thank you so much Mary!!! We love you!

    I used Mary for my wedding on December 29, 2012. We booked her for the "weekend of" package. She was AMAZING! She helped with everything from the lighting to the chair rentals.     I had an exceptional wedding planner! She was very organized, always on time and very enthusiastic about her job. She only had a few months to plan the wedding so it was great to have someone that was very resourceful and ready with ideas on how to make the wedding just the way my fiancé and I wanted it even on a budget.     If I could give Mary a THOUSAND stars I would!!! She is very professional, efficient, friendly and so thorough. I am one of those brides that was stress free on my wedding day. I enjoyed every bit of it and it was all thanks to her that made everything flow so gracefully. I had only days before my wedding (thinking I could pull off a wedding all by myself for 600+ guests) when i really started to feel the pressure and started getting overwhelmed and depressed over the whole thing so we decided that we needed help and gave Mary a call. We only had 5 days till the wedding before we called her and she still took us in and helped us through the whole thing. Everyone was so pleased with all her services throughout the night. We had guests raving about her even after the wedding( especially because along with her staff she had bilngual assistants that also spoke Spanish fluently to all our non English speaking family members and friends. . We truly owe her the highest of praises for all her hard work that because of her and her crew made our dreams come true.

    Mary planned and coordinated my entire wedding ceremony and reception (150 guest) in less than 3 months and really created a beautiful night for us! She is very trustworthy, organized, professional, and communicated with us throughout the process. Our wedding was the first wedding at a newly opened venue, so I relied on Mary to catch all the planning details that I didn't have the experience to even think of. A wedding costs so much money and there isn't really an opportunity for 'repeat business' for the vendors. It was a huge relief to have Mary steering us to reliable vendors with reasonable pricing.

    I did not understand the need for a wedding planner but I am definitely glad we had one. Because we were using a city owned historical building, there were numerous permits, vendors, insurance certificates, etc. and each of them were handled with ease by Becky. If you are having a big wedding and want to enjoy yourself, I highly recommend having the folks at Mary Rios Events manage the details for you.

Mary was very accommodating, knows the industry, comes to the table with suggestions when you feel like you are stuck, and takes care of all of the small details so you can enjoy your event. We used Mary as our wedding planner, and we certainly wouldn't have had the memorable, enjoyable, special day that we did if it wasn't for her. Thank you, Mary!

    Mary Rios was overall an excellent planner! She is incredibly sweet and genuinely wants to make your event perfect! We hired her for the "Weekend Of" services and she met with my husband and I when we were in town to review everything in detail. Then, a week prior to the event, we had a 2 hour phone conversation with her where she confirmed every detail so that she can make the weekend run flawlessly. She was there for me throughout the entire night, even helping me put on my garter or make sure champagne was placed at the cake table. Our only negative comment about our experience was that we wish my dress had been steamed earlier in the day. Mary got preoccupied with other vendors when I was getting ready and never got to steam it so my bridesmaids had to pitch in last minute and rush to do it. If this has been done a few hours prior, it would have been ideal so that we did not worry. Overall, I would still highly recommend Mary Rios! She is a pleasure to work with and I really appreciate her constant positive attitude and organization.

    Great, sincere, personable Houston Wedding Planner

    I was planning from grad school in Denver, and she made my life so much easier when planning my wedding in Houston from long distance! She excelled in accommodating MULTIPLE family demands, her professional attitude, her extra efforts to handle CULTURAL DETAILS. She had sincere suggestions to make things more beautiful while staying reasonably priced! Her ideas, itineraries, and personal touch are beyond what any app can help with online. Such a life saver! You won't be disappointed!

    Day-of Coordinator

    We used Mary as our day-of coordinator for our wedding at The Dunlavy. She was easy to get ahold of, flexible with changes, and highly organized! I knew during the planning process that there were a lot of moving parts on the wedding day, but was confident that everything would be taken care of by Mary and her team. Our day ran seamlessly thanks to her help!

    Mary Rios Events Review - Houston, TX

    Our wedding day was absolutely spectacular! More than a year later, we continue to receive kind feedback from our guests and requests for wedding planning advice. All of this was despite the participation of Mary Rios and her consultant Marlene in our wedding day, however. They were helpful in a few ways (see below for details) but we cannot recommend them. Our heart goes out to wedding vendors still recovering from the pandemic years, but there is no reason to take it out on clients. We initially did not plan to review vendors we did not find to be professional, but the continued requests for guidance on wedding planning we have received convinced us to leave this review. You as consumer deserve to be respected and treated in a professional manner by all your wedding vendors. We hope our review is helpful to you.

    When we contacted Mary Rios, she was initially not available for our April wedding date and assigned Marlene Baltazar to our small wedding for day of coordination. Marlene seemed nice enough in our video interview and Mary had assured us the organization planning document and processes she had shown us in our initial call was their internal standard.

    They were kind and responsive until we signed the contract and paid the deposit. Then they went silent.

    We followed up and after nearly a week Mary responded saying they were on “spring break”. They had no out of office e-mail nor had they told us they were taking time off, but we gave them the benefit of the doubt. They did have good reviews and seemed established after all.

    Unfortunately, the process then evolved in a similarly inefficient pattern with Marlene seemingly ignoring e-mails and texts. She complimented us on how efficient and organized we were but unfortunately did not do the same for us. She apologized, explained her personal issues and promised to do better.

    Thankfully our ceremony and reception venues each had experienced in-house coordinators who ultimately ensured the most important things happened and that key vendors had what they needed.

    During the planning process, however, when Marlene joined us for tastings and planning sessions with our reception venue coordinator, she was clearly more focused on having free meals. It was quite awkward both times as the first time she invited our DJ at the last minute. That turned out fine, but the second time, she brought a draft timeline for our wedding day that had clearly been hastily copied and pasted from a previous event. It included numerous glaring errors. The other strange part was that Mary Rios attempted to join us at the last minute for our final food tasting. We were not consulted and were confused as we had only spoken to her a couple times before signing the contract. Suddenly she was available for our wedding?

    This all happened weeks after Marlene assured us she had spent “hours” on the phone with all of our vendors and had things under control. It was too late to hire another day of coordinator, and we felt confident in the abilities of the in-house coordinators for our venues.

    Marlene had also gone on at length during our meetings (a couple of which she had cancelled at the last minute) about her personal issues and gripes about other clients. We did our best to be understanding and re-focus the conversations on completing the necessary tasks.

    In hindsight, however, she seemed to take this cordiality as permission to procrastinate and further disrespect our boundaries as well as those of bridal party members the day before and the day of the wedding. She went so far as to follow members of the bridal party to the hotel to ask them to help her get organized for wedding day. We had already provided her with written instructions and had discussed it thoroughly over the phone in a friendly conversation. We thought all was well and we could get some rest before our big day. It was as if she did not want to leave us alone and wanted us to hold her hand through the entire process.
    She also behaved very oddly about the fact that the bride had someone to help prepare her gown on wedding day. Marlene claimed they “always” help the bride get dressed as if the bride should have bended to her will. When you pay someone thousands of dollars in a timely manner and provide clear written and verbal instructions, they should not be following anyone trying to violate healthy boundaries.

    Mary Rios also got involved a couple days before the wedding and sent bizarre demands via e-mail asking for cups for pens (?) and other items that were not actually needed or ever discussed. Mary and Marlene were late on wedding day from the time they had scheduled for themselves. Some vendors also complained afterward that Marlene had not provided the information she had promised.
    Thankfully we still had a spectacular day overflowing with joy but not without awkward interactions with Mary and Marlene. The three or so times we interacted with them during the reception it was clear they had just been arguing with each other (thankfully outside the reception venue). Um, awkward, guys.

    Marlene did facilitate the payment and contracts with our DJ and mariachi, which was helpful. We had looked them up before but were unsure about the quality of their services. Marlene and our reception venue coordinator reassured us about their experience with them and the vendors did end up doing a great job with music.

    The only thing we saw Mary Rios do at our wedding was distribute ribbon wand streamers and presumably line people up for our two grand exits. Those were actually well done and made for some nice photo shots, so kudos on those to Mary and Marlene.

    Marlene did a decent job of packing up things and checking us out of the hotel on time, though not without losing a special commemorative piece of art. We had had our guests work on the art as one of the activities during the cocktail hour.
    When we contacted Mary Rios about the whereabouts of the piece, she said she had not helped with any aspect of cleanup. Marlene then attempted to pass the blame to the reception venue before admitting she had left it behind. She apologized profusely and that was our last interaction with Mary Rios Events.
    None of these things ruined our wedding day, joy, honeymoon, or marriage. We do share these experiences with folks who ask for our wedding planning advice as examples of what to avoid. Mary Rios Events’ website no longer appears to be functioning, so it may be that they are no longer in business. Either way, we wish them lasting prosperity and joy and hope that our review is helpful to other consumers.
