Beautiful Time at the La Jolla Cove Hotel and Suites
La Jolla Cove suites definitely has its pros and cons, but when it came down to having our wedding weekend here, we were more than happy with the service and the level of attention we received from the staff. The smell from the Cove could be smelled throughout the property so that was a little unpleasant, but the location, amenities and their special terrace suites were well worth the trip. We loved the big Terrace Suite with the best view, right next to Starbucks, and had plenty of room for our whole family to come by and hang out. The saltwater pool was kept well in use and the rooftop accommodated us for so many occasions! We loved the area and the central location. There is so much to do and there are plenty of delicious places to walk to and eat at, too. Our guests had so many great things to say about this property.
We had one little hiccup with our point-person ghosting us and getting fired 2 weeks before our wedding and had to vet out all of the final details with the new person just 1 week before. They were sure to make sure they made up for that by providing complimentary tables and linens and a new professional point-person.La Jolla Cove suites definitely has its pros and cons, but when it came down to having our wedding weekend here, we were more than happy with the service and the level of attention we received from the staff. Best day ever
We can't thank Wedgewood Weddings at La Jolla Cove (especially Elizabeth) enough for making our wedding day absolutely perfect! From start to finish, they went above and beyond, making us feel completely comfortable and as stress-free as possible. Elizabeth and the team understood our vision and brought it to life in the most magical way. We enjoyed every moment and our guests are STILL raving about the event. If you want a team that truly cares about making your dream wedding day come true, book them. SO MUCH bang for your buck!

Most BEAUTIFUL scenery for a ceremony venue. If you want to have an ocean backdrop but do not want to have sand on your dress this IS the place for you. Beautiful Rooftop Views of La Jolla
Stunning remodeled rooftop. We just had our event there and we couldn't have asked for a better location. Venue included lounge furniture, fireplaces, and the prettiest covered pergola awning. Alma and her team were so great to work with. Super accommodating and flexible, which is great for wedding days.Stunning remodeled rooftop. We were so happy with this venue! All we wanted was to be by the beach with full ocean views, and with privacy during our ceremony and reception. This venue provided both! At first glance from street view, we almost overlooked it due to the fact that it is an older hotel, but don't let the first glance fool you! Once you get to the very spacious rooftop with full ocean views for both your ceremony and reception, you will be sold!! It is right across the street from La Jolla Cove as well. Parking is only for guests staying at the hotel, but there is a parking garage within walking distance for the guests. Our contact, Patricia Johnson, was amazing throughout the entire planning process. I would highly recommend getting married here!We were so happy with this venue! I am in love with this venue and its staff and I am still a few months away from the wedding! Tracy is amazing at her job, she is responsive and very helpful. She has been the main contact for me and I have no complaints so far. The venue itself is beautiful and they just repainted the rooftop and got new tables and chairs. La Jolla Cove Suites is absolutely magical. We could not have found a more perfect location to get married. We wanted a beach wedding, without the sand and this place did not disappoint. It provides 180 degree panoramic view of beautiful La Jolla ocean. You are so close you can hear the seals barking. Plus, we were able to use all the amazing spots around the hotel for pictures, including walking down to the beach.
The staff was absolutely amazing and worked so hard to make our vision a reality. They were professional and really made us feel incredibly special. Joy in particular was a life saver throughout the entire wedding planning process. She was so organized really catered to all our needs. She is so knowledgable of what we would need and thought of all the little details we never would remember. She also is so great with communication and always gets back to you SUPER fast, which I definitely appreciated. I highly recommend the bridal suite as well...it was a great place to get ready with all the bridesmaids. Most of our wedding party came from out of town and all we heard about was how great the wedding was. Over half our friends changed their facebook profile pic to one from the venue! That's how you know it is good! Overall, two thumbs up and we already can't wait to go back to celebrate our one year anniversary!La Jolla Cove Suites is absolutely magical. There is nowhere else in San Diego like this. The view is amazing. It was the perfect setting. Tracy & Joy went above & beyond to help make everything perfect. Everything we wanted and more! Wonderful Experience 🤩
My husband and I are beyond grateful to have worked with Wedgewood for our destination wedding and they all made every step of the way extremely smooth and absolutely beautiful! Everyone went above and beyond to make our wedding everything we hoped for and their efforts truly showed. Particularly, planning at our meetings with Elizabeth, Casey, and Katelyn was so much fun and they provided such helpful tips and always were so reassuring. We’re grateful for their time answering all of our questions and giving us their wonderful expertise along the way! At our rehearsal and day of Katelyn was amazing staying organized and patient with our group! We are so happy with how she brought all of our visions to life with all the specific details and decorations! Many thanks to the team member who put the florals up on the arch because they were stunning. A huge shout out to Sava for packing so much away for us so we were able to enjoy the time with our guests at the end of the night, that was extremely kind and everything made it back to NJ wonderfully! Also the bartender was phenomenal, very friendly and great at keeping everyone with drinks in their hands the whole night, many guests commented on how impressed they were with his service. Truly, working with the entire team put our mind at peace and we are so glad to have put our trust into Wedgewood for our special day. If you are looking for a beach wedding without having to deal with sand, you must book La Jolla Cove Hotel and Suites! Their rooftop is simply stunning and the ocean views will take your breath away. The majority of our wedding guests were from out of state and we could not have picked a more perfect place to really showcase the beauty of San Diego. La Jolla Cove Hotel and Suites has the space for both a ceremony and reception onsite and provides large spaces for the bridal parties to get ready in. It also conveniently included tables and chairs. Hard to go wrong with tihs view! The people we dealt with for the wedding were great and very helpful. The hotel staff did try to put us into "the bridal suite with 2 full beds"???? instead of one with a King bed, but we rectified that immediately and got the "actual bridal suite" which was just above the one with 2 beds-lol the rooms were clean, the pool area gorgeous, and the rooftop was simply spectacular.Hard to go wrong with tihs view! As soon as I saw the views from the rooftop I knew we had to have our wedding there! I worked with Melissa through the whole process and even though she said she was new, I couldn't tell. She was always so professional, nice, and extremely responsive!
Our guests loved the location and the views. The only compliant I received was that the hotel rooms were not air conditioned. We got married on the hottest day of the year so I would imagine this wouldn't be a problem on any other day.
The rooftop is a blank slate. You could pretty much do whatever you liked to add your own personal touches. I would highly recommend a wedding here (especially now with all the rooms being remodeled). As soon as I saw the views from the rooftop I knew we had to have our wedding there! We knew this was the place the moment we saw it. The view of the cove is spectacular! It was perfect! The staff was friendly, courteous and helpful. They were with me from the beginning to the end. The only thing was it was a little expensive and for the price, like other hotels, I would have expected a complimentary room the night of the wedding and maybe a "special" price for our guests that chose to stay there. Neither of which was offered. They were helpful in getting me the room as early as possible but I thought it wasn't too much to ask for a comped room for the bride and groom the night of. Also the parking was a little tricky and there weren't a whole lot of options that didn't cost more money. They even charged us for our parking spots if you stayed there. All in all, everything went as planned the day and the staff was wonderful, especially Kiana who put up with my crazy questions and requests for 6 months of planning the wedding. I think it was a wonderful place to have a wedding if you are looking for a great view and a large space. However, for the price, I would recommend something else for those on a budget. You are also required to find your own vendors (some of which are exclusive to the venue) and that can be a little pricey as well.We knew this was the place the moment we saw it. Amazing view!
We were so happy with how our wedding turned out and it felt like the perfect day. Our family and friends raved about how beautiful it was and how much fun they had! The views from this venue and location are unmatched, especially at sunset.
Other pros:
- While wedding planning, I frequently texted and emailed the Wedgewood team and they were always very quick to respond!
- There was a hiccup with our contracted bakery for the week of our wedding. Robert quickly helped us find another bakery and made the transition entirely seamless. We didn't have to lift a finger.
- Bartenders, servers, and security were all so kind and our guests appreciated their hospitality.
- The cocktails were great and we appreciated the wide variety of drink selection for the bar.
- Ample clean and modern bathrooms.
- Guests enjoyed the fire pits and photobooth.
- People liked the appetizers and dinner (we selected a duet plate of salmon and beef short rib for our entree).
- The staff made sure that as bride and groom we had appetizers at cocktail hour. Throughout the night they checked in on if we wanted a drink, and packed us up some food at the end of the reception!
Things to know/consider:
- From when we booked the venue to the time of our wedding, some of the Wedgewood contracted vendors had changed (bakery, DJ). My two cents is don't be afraid to use your own vendors if you find one you really want to work with. It may even save you money to achieve your same vision, for example, our florals.
-Your guests will likely need to find street parking or use a nearby parking garage.
- The rain contingency plan isn't the greatest. There isn't an alternate indoor space and umbrellas will be used for the reception if it rains. The city does not allow for tents on the rooftop.
- Luckily it rained the day before our wedding day so we did not experience this, but there is sometimes a fishy smell in the air due to the sea lions at the cove. Not sure if it could be better during certain months of the year vs others?
- During our wedding day, the newer elevator was out of order. The older elevator was quite slow and many guests took the stairs up to the rooftop
- There is no bridal or groom suite, so we booked 2 nights at a newly remodeled hotel suite with La Jolla Cove Hotel (Shores VIP Corner Penthouse Suite). This worked perfectly for getting ready and was convenient throughout the day. It was about $1k per night though if you are watching your wedding budget. And some of the older/more cost effective rooms at the hotel don't have the best reviews... due to this, we did not recommend this as a hotel to out-of-town guests for lodging.
- Day of coordinator leaves at the beginning of the reception and then the banquet captain takes over. Our banquet captain was busy serving food so our DJ was key in helping to move the reception along.
- A listed benefit is that you receive help with wedding planning. The 3 planning meetings primarily give structure in planning the key elements of your wedding. Thinking of other details required my own research and time to make the wedding feel more personalized.
- The venue website says a capacity of 200 guests. Our wedding was 130 people and that was about the amount of guests that could comfortably fit under the covered ceremony space. It also seemed like there was just the right amount of space for our reception tables to be near the dance floor. We were so happy with how our wedding turned out and it felt like the perfect day.

Tracey & Joy in the sales office were great to work with as a contact for planning our wedding at La Jolla Cove Suites. They even gave us a military discount on the venue fee for my husband, which was greatly appreciated. Tracey & Joy were extremely responsive to any questions and change of ideas. Our only concerns were that in the beginning first few weeks that guests were booking their rooms, it depended on who they got at the front desk, some were told we had no wedding there, some weren't told the discounted rates, etc. So some of the guests were frustrated. The venue is gorgeous! Picture perfect, the rooftop view was amazing. The venue has a very specific contract so there are numerous guidelines the vendors, especially caterers have to follow. The day of the wedding, almost every one of our vendors mentioned that the front desk help was not very nice. I thought it was odd that all of my vendors commented on the staff not being helpful and nice. All and all, we were happy because they venue was gorgeous. You do have to piece each part together - food, drink, rentals, etc, so it's a lot of work, but was worth it.Tracey & Joy in the sales office were great to work with as a contact for planning our wedding at La Jolla Cove Suites. Pretty good but confirm before arrival
We arrived to discover we had a room on the sixth floor and they had decided to renovate the elevator without notifying us there would be no elevator! We had to carry everything from the front elevator on the fourth floor, to our suite on the far corner of the sixth floor. We had to change plans for all wedding prep, and our 93 & 94 year old guests still had to climb the stairs! Horrible and definitely not legal.
New rooms are nice, but make sure they aren’t violating any ADA laws before checking in.We arrived to discover we had a room on the sixth floor and they had decided to renovate the elevator without notifying us there would be no elevator! The venue at La jolla cove suites was amazing. You cannot beat the view with an open rooftop and perfect weather. However, if you are looking for good customer service find another venue with an amazing view.
We had called ahead of time to get the bridal suite early to load all of our items for the next day and to get ready for the rehersal with plenty of time to get things done. They assured us that would be fine and that day when we got there at the time we had said 10am, the room was not ready. We were told it was being cleaned and would be ready soon. It was never finsihed until 230pm. A half hour before check in. We then had to rush to be ready for the rehersal at 330.
Also, when we arrived, we saw our sales clerk walking by and I waved to say hi and she acted as though she barely knew who I was. She said hi and walked away. What venue where you are spending lots of money, does not acknowledge your presence? No one to say we are excited for you, no one to say how can we help you?, no one to say congratulations. It was absured! The whole day they acted as though we did not exist.
Finally, we were suppose to get the security deposit within 30 days of the wedding, which was stated in the contract. It was not recieved until a few weeks past the 30 days due to my husband demanding to speak with a manager, accounting, and our sales clerk. Our sales clerk was always gone or out of town and not even the manager could help us until we kept calling to finally catch her answering the phone.

I loved having my wedding at La Jolla Cove suites BUT I would recommend shopping around. The view is to die for but that's all you get. This place offers nothing but the rooftop at about $4500. You will have to book a room otherwise the bride will have nowhere to get ready and with everything you have to bring in you will have no where to put your stuff. I paid $600 for the weekend for my room plus $30 for parking. I still had a beautiful wedding overlooking an amazing ocean but having only about 5 1/2 hours to enjoy it because you have to be out by 9pm, music off by 8:30pm it's not enough time for the money.

Great view but that’s about it
I recently had my wedding at La Jolla cove hotel and suites (both the ceremony and reception). It turned out to be a beautiful wedding but getting to that point was a headache to say the least. I’ve never been involved in planning a wedding so the countless hidden costs were a big surprise; the pricey fee got you the rooftop and that was about it, EVERYTHING else was an additional cost with fees added to what seemed like everything. In addition, our contract had changed (according to the manager) and I was told that we no longer needed to fill a set amount of rooms, which was in the original contract. I asked for an updated contract and was told, again by the manager, I didn’t need one. I was given several different prices about the charge for the bridal suite (started at $230 and ended up being told it would be $500). When I confronted them about these changes and how frustrating it was, the manager said they couldn’t give me any additional discounts as I had not fulfilled booking the set amount of rooms stated in the original contract. At this point it was a few days before the wedding and I was furious as I was told we were no longer obligated to fulfill that. Luckily, I had the emails as evidence to show the discrepancies in what I was being told. There was NO accountability on the managers side of this, even when confronted with the proof. Like I said, it ended up being a beautiful wedding and the view is amazing but if you choose to have your wedding here, I’ll offer 2 big suggestions: 1) get EVERYTHING in writing so you have proof if they change things as much as they did with me and 2) ask about what is actually included in the price and what you’ll have to pay extra for, the list of additions adds up and adds up quickly.I recently had my wedding at La Jolla cove hotel and suites (both the ceremony and reception). Beautiful views but do not book your wedding here
I had my wedding here last weekend and if I could do it again I would NOT book here again. To start, they have a high turnover rates, so in the last year, I had about 3-4 point of contacts, which each told us different things. biggest issues:
1) They only have 2 elevator in the building. One is fairly small and works, but the other elevator, in the pines buildings, breaks a lot. My husband and I were stuck in it during our wedding for at least 10-15min and we had multiple guests get stuck throughout the night. When I mentioned to the Event manager, Alma, she told me she was working on it and/or did not have the authority to put a do not use sign. It took a few hours and a few more guests to get stuck before they put a do not use sin on the elevator. And my vendors had to carry large tables up and down 5 flights of stairs because the day before/after the event the elevator was not working. I also emailed her about this after the event and was told that "it was reset and working fine" and they put up the do not use sign after the 2nd guest was stuck in it.
2) My husband and I paid $2.50 extra per person to serve Pacifico instead of Corona, which was not brought up to the bar until an hour and a half into the bar being open. I spoke to the bartenders after the event and they told me on the list the hotel provided them that there was no Pacifico on the list. I email the venue after the event and asked for a partial refund since we paid extra for it and it was not provide for some time, and the response Alma provided was "we have no obligation to provide an item for the duration of the event." Even though we paid extra for it, they will not issue a partial refund.
3) venue lighting. When we first toured the venue (about a year before our wedding) I noticed there little lighting, and when I asked if there was lighting on the rooftop, the sales manager at the time told us there was lighting. I went back to the venue 3 weeks before my wedding and asked again about the lighting and was told by someone else there was "too much lighting guests normally ask to turn it down". We went back 4 days before the wedding and the new sales manager, Alma, told us that there actually was no lighting on one side of the venue/stairs leading up to the bathroom. Days leading up to the event, I was trying to work with the venue to figure out the lighting situation, the event manager took a day off (2 days before the wedding) and the accounting manager, Gus, was helpful but he refused to provide me with a backup plan if the lighting was not fixed on the event. He repeatedly kept saying "it will be fixed" but wouldn't provide a backup solution if the electrician was not able to fix it. It eventually ended up being fine, but added much additional stress the week of the wedding.
Lastly, the sales manager Alma was fairly rude to me, my MOH, and a few other friends that were helping set up. She seemed very stressed out the entire event.I had my wedding here last weekend and if I could do it again I would NOT book here again.
