Dress, Coat, and Tie

Yvonne and her staff are kind, supportive, professional, and immensely talented.

I have admired the Asian/classic modern aesthetic of Kimera Designs for ages, so when I was finally getting married, I was delighted to get to work with them for a wedding ensemble that gave a nod to my Taiwanese heritage and my own classic aesthetic.

Yvonne gave me excellent advice as far as flowers for my hair, the length of the coat I chose to go with my wedding dress (early spring outdoor wedding in MA!), and a matching sash to go with my groom's tie. (He loved his tie so much that he ended up wanting more of her beautiful ties for other occasions.)

She and her staff were never pushy, always flexible and accommodating (I had to shift an appointment at one point due to a medical procedure), and made me feel beautiful and special for my wedding.

I loved that all the work for my attire was done in Brooklyn, too! The custom-made dress and coat fit perfectly, and were very reasonably priced, considering the quality of the silk fabric and tailoring.

Everyone complimented me and the clothes. I'm hoping to get to wear them again separately for special occasions in the future, too!

I cannot recommend Kimera highly enough. The most beautiful and unique clothing in NYC! Everyone who works at the shop is kind and tremendously helpful and Yvonne is a true genius. She made a dress for me for my rehearsal dinner and walked me through every step of the way. The dress is the most flattering thing I own and the quality is tremendous. I am officially a lifelong Kimera lover!

I had a serendipitous internet encounter--I found Kimera! The dresses on the site were perfect. Classic styles at affordable prices. And it would be custom made! Not an off the rack and altered dress, but a dress created just for me. I read some very positive reviews so I quickly called the shop and made an appointment.
It was so quaint and so colorful with all of the beautiful jewel-tone shatung silk dresses hanging in her shop. And she also showcases all sorts of lovely accessories which complement her one-of-kind creations perfectly. There is also a great under garment and lingerie shop right downstairs. This was not David's. I had the shop to myself and more importantly I had Yvonne's undivided attention.
We had a great consultation. She listened to my wedding story, provided input and suggestions without being a "salesperson". I knew I was in the right place. Fittings were seamless Our wedding day arrived. I got my makeup done had my veil put on and put on my dress. I looked in the mirror and cried at how beautiful I looked and how fabulous I felt. I continued to have that feeling for the rest of the day and evening. The dress not only felt great, but it also photographed beautifully. The sheen coming off of the silk looked amazing. I received a million compliments on the style and fit of my dress on that day.
I will never forget my wedding day, but I will also never forget how elegantly fabulous I looked and how wonderful I felt in my wedding dress!

I bought my rehearsal dinner dress at Kimera and I love it!! It's a gorgeous and unique mix of brocade, silk shantung, and wax print. There's nothing like Yvonne's style out there. The dress fits like a glove and is comfortable to boot. The amazing thing is that my wedding dress will only be worn once-- but I hope to treasure this dress for a long time. I wore it to multiple holiday parties after my wedding and always got compliments on it. Of course Yvonne and her team are super friendly and down to earth too! If you're looking for a stylish and unique piece or ensemble, I heartily recommend Kimera.

Yvonne totally saved me! I was looking for MONTHS for the perfect bridesmaid dresses for my Persian wedding. In Persian ceremonies, the bridesmaids are very involved in the ceremony and present in all your photos. All the bridesmaid dresses I found online were hideous,baggy, and unflattering. I then came across Yvonne’s shop online. I went to her store and inquired if she would be able to make EIGHT bridesmaid dresses that were sweetheart neckline, above the knee, form fitting, burgundy and in silk fabric. Yvonne told me she would be able to do it on time (we were only 4 months away from the wedding).

The product of her work far surpassed my expectations! The dresses turned out GORGEOUS! Yvonne is a perfectionist who pays attention to detail and altered the dresses to fit every girls body exactly. On wedding day we could not stop getting compliments on how amazing the girls dresses looked. The silk fabric also photographed so beautifully! Yvonne is also a complete pleasure to work with, so sweet and kind and LOVES what she does. She is a true professional dress maker and SO talented.

Yvonne was stellar. With all the stress of wedding planning Yvonne and the Kimera staff offered a feeling of calm. She was very attentive to detail, offering the number of fittings and adjustments I needed to get it right. I also bought my rehearsal dinner dress from Kimera and I absolutely love it. I'm delighted to see all the other glowing reviews on here of this business. Yvonne fully deserves all of this praise and more. I love Kimera's work. I could not have had a better experience for my wedding. I am now constantly thinking of items that Yvonne, the owner, could make for me next. I went in with an idea of what I wanted in a custom wedding dress, and Yvonne listened to me and also offered her expert opinion. She also responded quickly when I had questions and a last-minute change after my last fitting. The resulting dress was exactly what I wanted. The fabric was regal. The flow was divine. It was phenomenally gorgeous, and it was not nearly as expensive as a comparable gown from a conventional bridal store. I could not recommend Kimera more highly.

I live in North Carolina and when my mom and I went up to NY to look at dresses while I was there on a work trip, I never thought we would find something so perfect! The whole experience was amazing with Yvonne was relaxed and amazing. She was accommodating to my schedule with fittings because I was only in town a few times and as many others have said, you can't beat saying I have a custom made wedding dress for under $700. I had to get my dress taken in one more time and my seamstress commented on how amazing the tailoring was! Everything was just perfect.

Yvonne is amazing. I went in with no clear idea of what I wanted, other than that it be non-traditional. She figured out my style in no time and helped me to decide on a dress that was nothing like what I expected I'd want. Everything about it was gorgeous - from style to fabric to workmanship. Fittings were unbelievably easy and pleasant. The finished product was utterly unique and so beautiful - better than I could have hoped it would be. AND - unlike the ones you see on those horrible TV shows, it was really affordable.

Working with Kimera to create my wedding dress was a beautiful, joyful, easy process, and I could not be more thrilled about the result. It was the opposite of stressful, and honestly, one of my favorite parts of the whole process - just mine. I came to Yvonne with a basic idea for a dress based on a photo, and the precious material of my mother's sari that I wanted to use to make the dress. She immediately asked all the right questions, had her own ideas, and made me feel I was in skillful and capable hands. It really felt like a collaboration, though she and Jessica did all the work! I came back for a number of fittings and consultations and each time saw this amazing garment that I had only imagined taking shape. When we finally got there: it exceeded anything I could have dreamt of, it fit perfectly, I felt amazing in it. What else can I say? I loved working with them so much, and was so impressed by their selection of fabrics and the care they take in their work that we also had the groom and groomsmen's ties / pocket squares, our bridal party's dresses, and our officiant's sash all made there. Everyone was SO ecstatic about the experience and the finished products. They made our day what we wanted it to be: bright, beautiful, colorful, and superfly! From just being in the shop to wearing the dress itself and feeling unstoppable in it, the entire experience was one I will remember with fierce fondness and gratitude. I recommend beyond measure. Thank you, fabulous women of Kimera.

Yvonne was absolutely incredible! I was so hesitant about the whole wedding dress experience because I've always been a bit body conscious. What was great about the experience at Kimera is that you can completely design your own dress which means you don't have to fit into a dress, the dress fits perfectly to you! Yvonne gives you great suggestions on the best design for your body type and guides you through the materials selection process. I had so much fun picking out the lace for my dress and thought I was going to hate the entire wedding dress process. Not to mention, the prices is incredibly reasonable considering you're getting a customized designer quality gown! I absolutely loved my experience at Kimera and highly recommend Yvonne and her team for all future Brooklyn/NYC brides!

I found Kimera Design online after searching for local designers. I was also intent on finding a dress for under $1000, so I was ecstatic to fall in love with a dress on Yvonne's website that fit my budget before even going to the store in-person. In the end, Yvonne ended up making dresses for my five bridesmaids and two flower girls, as well as the tie for our ring bearer. We couldn't be happier and she couldn't have been easier to work with. She was so accommodating to the requests of my bridesmaids and incredibly patient with me as I went back and forth about sash and lining colors. I came down with a two-week pneumonia a few weeks before our wedding and Yvonne was incredibly accommodating about having to reschedule fittings as we waited for my weight to stabilize. All of our dresses looked fabulous and unique. The fact that I wore a custom-made wedding dress for less than $900 was incredible. And every time I go into her store, I want to buy something else!

It is simply unheard of to be able to get a custom wedding gown at a reasonable price, and yet Kimera makes that possible. With three fittings and the addition of a beautiful beaded sash, the total came to… $550. It was a fraction of every other dress I looked at.

Yvonne is an amazing artist and it is a pleasure to work with her. The dresses she creates are simple and elegant, customized perfectly just for you, and amazingly well priced. I had visited a few of the larger bridal boutiques in New York City and was starting to hate the process of dress shopping, until I visited Kimera. It was relatively easy to get a weekend appointment at Kimera just a week in advance, whereas other boutiques had months-long waiting lists. The shop is small and cozy, with space for the bride and family/friends to sit and relax and offer opinions. Yvonne has so many beautiful designs in such lovely fabrics, and building from a few basic designs she works carefully with you to make decisions about length, neckline, back height, etc. I first visited Kimera in February and my wedding was 4 ½ months later – plenty of time to try on multiple styles, come back and choose a dress, and go through three fittings, and the dress was still ready one month early.

My mother and I loved all of Yvonne’s styles so much that we both ended up purchasing dresses for our rehearsal dinner there, too! The shop has a great collection of vintage jewelery and hair pieces, and Susan at the shop worked with me to make a change to the hair piece I bought. Also helpful is the Iris Lingerie shop, which shares space with Kimera, making it easy to find the right undergarments that fit the dress.

Yvonne is amazing! She made both of our dresses, as well as a dress for my mom. We both went with designs close to what she makes already, and I think the total cost for two dresses and our various undergarments (from Iris right downstairs) and jewelry, was less than $1000, including beadwork on mine (not each. Total!). She was able to make the two dresses fit nicely together, and she reused material from a dress belonging to my grandmother.

More importantly, her store is so relaxed and comfortable. While she knows how to make a wedding dress, she has a lovely presence. She clearly has fun being creative with dress options, and was really nice to be around, even when we were a bit stressed out.

Her place is a bit small - she's definitely outgrowing it, given the foot traffic we saw - but she never made us feel rushed. Having our dresses made by her was one of the highlights of the planning process.

As a Brooklyn bride, the whole wedding industry as it stands is frustrating! But Kimera stands alone. Where else can you get a custom wedding dress with all the details for under $1000?

Yvonne was quick to respond, clear, and really took my vision to heart. I fell in love with a Jenny Packham dress, but I was set on spending no more than a $1000 for my entire ensemble. Yvonne made my dream dress on a shoestring budget. Helping me make decisions as to fabric and cost, together we were able to do it.

I wanted to pick out the fabric with my friends, so Yvonne sent me with the specifications for fabrics. It was so fun and so affordable. Much better than just buying a dress that everyone else owns.

Appointments were easy to schedule, her shop is located right near the trains, and she's just a wonderful person to work with.

In case you're wondering, she can make anything! My dress was way different from her catalog. A backless, lace dress with silk charmeuse underlay. Beautiful, classy and it fit like glove.

Yvonne at Kimera is great to work with. It was so special to have a wedding dress that was truly created for me. She did the ties for my husband and our groomsmen as well as all of our bridesmaid dresses. They were all lovely and coordinated so well together and everyone's dresses fit beautifully. Yvonne is really responsive to emails and made everything so easy. She also made me an adorable little purse for me that matched everything! Would definitely recommend Kimera.

Kimera gave me the wedding dress of my dreams! I already had a special fabric that I brought in. The Designer took my measurements and had me try on a few different styles. I chose my style and did a few muslin fitting to get the fit perfect. When I got the finally dress, the fit was precisely right. I had also picked a rather complicated patterned fabric and everything lined up perfectly. It really was a great experience.

I felt stunning in my dress, and Yvonne from Kimera is an amazing designer. I love my dress, and did not want to take it off, it was beautiful, simple, and unique: with a deep V in the front and back, and a floor-length brocade sash that served as a unique train. I loved the style of my dress and the service from Kimera so much, that we ordered ties for our groomsmen (and my new husband!) and clutches for our bridesmaids.

I am so thrilled that I got my dress from Kimera. Yvonne (the designer) designed a one-of-a-kind dress for me, and made it to fit perfectly. I absolutely loved it, and received so many compliments. The style was perfect for me, and the fit was amazing. I loved having a unique dress. The fabric was gorgeous. And the value absolutely cannot be beat. Yvonne was so great to work with, everything went smoothly and was a lot of fun. I absolutely recommend Kimera. She makes regular dresses too (not only wedding), and I can't wait to go back and have her make me something else. Also, I didn't find Kimera until after I had already ordered my bridesmaids dresses, but I wish that I had found Kimera first, I would definitely have gone with Kimera for those dresses too. Kimera made my wedding dress, and I couldn't be happier with the result! I am tall and curvy, so shopping is always a pain . . . I finally decided to have my dress made instead of trying to find one and having it altered a lot, and in hindsight that was the best decision I could have made. I wanted a simple but elegant design, and that is exactly what Kimera produced. I gave Yvonne, the designer, my measurements over the phone and put aside some money for any small alterations that I might need since I live in MD and would not be able to go to NY for a fitting. The dress arrived and actually fit me perfectly - no alterations needed! My wedding guests couldn't believe it because the dress fit so well. Kimera also stitched on the sash in one of my wedding colors (no worries about it getting loose and sllipping off!) and there was a matching tie for my spouse. I felt like a princess on my wedding day, and we both look fantastic in the pictures. Plus, the price was very reasonable given the material used (shantung silk) and that it was completely made to my measurements. Thank you!!

I had a fabulous dress that fit me perfectly. Yvonne even worked around me being puffy from gall bladder surgery right before :)

The only thing I ha a little trouble with was the sash-- she made me this pretty thin belt to go around my middle, but kept forgetting that I didn't want it high up. Final fitting, it was at a great place, and she kept saying she thought it was a little loose, I told her it was fine. Get my dress.... night before the wedding my mother was up trying to move the snap-- she had made that little belt tighter and I couldn't breathe!

Other than that, whole experience was wonderful-- dress was comfortable and gorgeous :)

Fabulous- one of the best kept bridal secrets! Kimera specializes in asian influenced dresses in beautiful silks, and they can customize any of their dresses for brides or bridesmaids. Yvonne's dresses are unusual and fabulous, and she is extremely helpful. She was even able to add a fun detail to my dress one week before the wedding. At times there were multiple fittings taking place, but I guess that means that word is getting out.
