From our first conversation to the ceremony itself, Joan was warm, professional, and truly invested in making our ceremony meaningful and personal. Joan is amazing!
It can be difficult to find and trust someone you’ve never met with such an important part of your wedding day. However, after one phone call with Joan, I knew she was going to be the perfect fit for us!! Joan is not only such an incredibly, kind and warm person but she is so genuine and took the time to really get to know my fiancé and I, understand our love story, and the type of ceremony we wanted. She was so respectful and open to everything and was highly organized throughout the whole process. Beautiful Ceremony
We requested a non religious ceremony from Joan and she was very thoughtful in helping us create one. She had very helpful information sheets and a questionnaire that really made my wife and I think about our responses. Joan was able to draw on our answers for her story about us during the ceremony. Many of our attendes commented on how wonderful and memory the ceremony was and how much it was truly about US as a couple (not to mention funny!). Joan has a great attitude and it was pleasure getting to know her during our planning meetings before the wedding. We could not recommend Joan more. -

When we started our search for an officiant who could perform traditional celtic handwraps, we thought we'd have a hard time, but when we found Joan we knew, without a shadow of a doubt, she was the person to marry us. From our very first meeting, we started talking about family, heritage, what we value, and from those conversations we were able to determine just how well she would perform and how seriously she takes her role. We had such a fabulous time just sitting in the cafe chatting with her and getting to know each other. When we mentioned hand wrappings, her face lit up as she pulled out a binder with samples and dialogs, we were overjoyed to see how excited she was but also amazed at just how prepared she had come to our very first meeting!
Her questions and questionnaires, while extensive, were incredibly important to this experience as they allowed her to truly get to know us, which in turn made the ceremony incredibly loving and personal. She took the time to not only research the style and theme of the wedding we were going for, but also to research and understand us and our love for each other. All that work really showed at the ceremony and, according to our guests, gave everyone a better understanding of our connection. With the level of personalization and love she was able to foster, it felt like she truly understood why we were getting married. Plenty of our guests came up to us during the reception talking about how beautiful the ceremony was, how intimate and loving it felt, and through her, we were able to display our love with all our friends and family present. We are honored and thankful that she was a part of this special moment with us, to last the rest of our lives. Thank you Joan, from the bottom of our hearts. -

Booking Joan was one of the BEST decisions we made for our wedding. As we are not religious, it was important for us to find an officiant who could conduct a secular ceremony that was still full of emotion and meaning. When I was looking for an officiant for our micro wedding, I was choosing based on reviews because that's how you really get to know someone and the way they work.
Joan was our first choice and she ended up being the best one too! Despite me contacting her just about two months before the wedding day, she made sure to respond to my emails as soon as possible and I never waited too long for a reply. We set up a Zoom call so that we can meet "face to face" and discuss further details about the ceremony.
On the wedding day, Joan was amazing. The wording was everything we could have hoped for and she made sure to talk about everything that was important to both my and my husband.
I would recommend Joan to everyone who wants a personalized ceremony and make their day even more perfect. -

Joan is an absolute treasure - not just as an officiant, but as a person. Not only did she craft the most beautiful, thoughtful, joyful ceremony, she went above and beyond in the process leading up to our wedding. After an introductory call in which she walked us through a sample ceremony flow, we also met in person to get to know each other better. She even spoke to my mom over the phone for an hour! Her kindness, enthusiasm, and professionalism are unmatched. She also stayed after the ceremony and boogied the night away with our family and friends! Awesome Experience
Joan was very attentive, helpful, resourceful and communicative through the planning and finishing process. She went the extra step in gathering useful information about from both of us. We got married on short notice, and we were worried that we might not find a suitable officiant in time. After a brief intro call with Joan, I knew immediately that she'd do a wonderful job.
Joan laid out the process very clearly, and ensured that we supplied all necessary info for her to organize the ceremony.
In short order, Joan fused the info we shared with our specific requests, and conducted a beautiful and highly-personalized ceremony that we'll never forget.

From our first call, we knew Joan was the right person to be our officiant. She is such a kind person and an amazing listener. She made sure she knew exactly what we wanted for our ceremony and was a wealth of resources. She also was a complete lifesaver in going to the DC Courts to take care of all the marriage-related paperwork (for a very reasonable fee). You want to feel confident, relaxed, and secure during wedding planning and your wedding day, and Joan was a pivotal part of making us feel that way, and of making our wedding day so special. Like many couples we were a COVID reschedule wedding from October 2020 to October 2021. During the course of the year, the officiant we had been working with had become ill and could no longer perform our services for us though we had already had our ceremony drafted. She kindly put us in touch with Joan and we could not have been happier with everything!
Joan came in in July without knowing much about us, and set up an initial meeting so we could get to know each other and get an idea of what we were looking for on the day. She was so easy to talk to and so energetic we knew she was going to be fantastic to work with. We provided her with a copy of our previous draft since my wife really liked a lot of it, but told her to feel free to give it her own voice and make any changes she saw fit. The ceremony we got back was perfect. We thought the initial draft was great but once Joan got to work on it, she really made it everything we wanted.
Joan was easy to keep in contact with despite what I’m sure was a full plate of 2021 weddings and rescheduled 2020 weddings packed into weekends. She worked seamlessly with our month / day of coordinator for scheduling and making sure our other vendors were well prepared for the ceremony, including our DJ and videographer for mic’ing. She was absolutely wonderful and provided reassurance and nerve calming words of wisdom at the rehearsal and pre-ceremony and I (the groom), especially appreciated that.
Our ceremony couldn’t have been more perfect. From Joan’s delivery, to timing and energy she generated (especially with getting some audience interaction and some perfect comedic timing) everything was just wonderful.

Joan did an AMAZING job for our wedding. We had hired Joan for our April 2020 wedding but ended up having friends officiate in our backyard (due to COVID). Joan was so helpful throughout the process - extremely flexible as we rescheduled our 2nd ceremony and celebration 2 times, very helpful in providing suggestions/readings for the ceremony, and extremely thoughtful in her wedding day script. We wanted to incorporate both Jewish and Christian aspects into the wedding for our families, but largely keep it nondenominational and Joan made that happen. Additionally, we weren't quite sure how to handle our second wedding (as we were already married), but Joan was so helpful in providing ideas and suggestions for how to approach the ceremony. While we reviewed some of the script prior to the wedding, we let her surprise us with her comments on our love story...and I'm so glad we did - it was a great surprise. She pulled from our questionnaires (that we'd written 2 years prior) and spoke beautifully about how we met and what we love about one another. She also included a thoughtful recap on our first year and a half of marriage. Several of our guests asked how we knew Joan - they assumed she was a close family friend. She personalized the ceremony so well and spoke beautifully not only about us, but about our relationships with our family and friends. We are so thankful for Joan and so glad we chose her for our ceremony! -

It was a real pleasure working with Joan! She was very responsive and supportive through zoom meetings, weeks before our wedding day. She was very helpful with planning minor details that my wife and I were still unsure of. Our whole wedding was translated and live streamed so, there were many pauses during the ceremony and Joan knew exactly how to handle this! She was still able still capture the intimacy with everyone on zoom live streaming in. There were many messages my wife and I wanted our loved one’s to know during our ceremony and Joan took the time to relay those messages to them beautifully!

We hired Joan Phillips as our officiant for our upcoming wedding, however, like many we had to postpone twice. Joan was so flexible and worked with us when we had to reschedule both times. We finally decided to hold an intimate ceremony this year for our family and hold a larger wedding next year. We are so grateful Joan was able to also officiate our small ceremony this year. Joan was so easy to work with and offered as many calls as we’d like to discuss our vision and honestly she blew us away with her ideas and listened to us and all of our wants. Incredibly beautiful and personal ceremony
Joan was our wedding officiant through Simply Eloped. She was absolutely incredible. She personalized our ceremony in a way that made us feel she had known us for years. Perfect Ceremony!
We had a tall task for Joan to officiate our inter-faith wedding in the middle of a global pandemic, on a date that already had special meaning to Joan, and despite all these obstacles, Joan was absolutely fabulous! Without having known us previously, Joan depicted our love story perfectly, as if she knew us from the beginning of our decade long relationship! Our guests were laughing and crying, and overall, left with an overwhelming sense of joy! Joan is WONDERFUL in every way!
We could not recommend Joan more! She made our elopement ceremony better and more special than we ever could have hoped for. We customized every aspect of it, and the resources she provided beforehand helped us immensely. She was so easy to contact with questions and so easy-going and so well-spoken at the ceremony. She filed our marriage license so quickly the following day and made sure to follow up with us with instructions as we were out of state and mailing the paperwork in for certified copies. All in all you should stop what you're doing right now and hire Joan to be your officiant, you will not regret it! -

Joan is a genuinely kind and wonderful person who also happens to be an amazing officiant. Joan took the time to get to know who we were as a couple in addition to understanding what we wanted out of our wedding ceremony. Joan brings a wealth of past knowledge and experience with her services and uses that information to ensure that everything aligns perfectly on the day. Joan was not pushy about the the flow of the ceremony or the rituals that should be included, but used the information she learned about us to craft a truly unique experience. Joan officiated my sister’s wedding in Rockville, Maryland, and was a pleasure to work with throughout the process. Joan was organized, generous, and helpful during the planning process and on wedding day. Amazing and personal ceremony
Joan made our ceremony so special! She took the time to get to know us through her questionnaire and created such a personal ceremony for us with all of the things we wanted. Joan was recommended to us by our incredible wedding coordinator, GLOW Weddings and Events and we were thrilled with her. She met with us before our wedding and asked so many careful and detailed questions, and then had us complete an extensive questionnaire and the results were amazing. She made excellent recommendations about the flow of the service, and wrote a beautiful ceremony for us. People kept telling me how personal it was and that it were as though she'd known us forever. We wanted a non-religious ceremony and she absolutely respected that and still made it feel sacred and intimate. We were thrilled with our choice in Joan. -

I could write a 600-page book on how utterly amazing Joan is. I booked Joan on a whim after seeing 111 FIVE STAR reviews. If there were 100 stars, I would give her that in a heartbeat.
Joan met us at a coffee shop in our neck of the woods in Arlington, came prepared with a folder and super helpful and thorough materials to help us prepare for the ceremony, took copious amounts of notes, and genuinely got to know me and my fiance. I instantly knew shew as going to be our officiant and wrote her a check the minute I came home.
Joan wrote us the most personalized, customized, eloquent ceremony I could have ever imagined. She gave us the BEST and most creative ideas to perfect our ceremony and tailor it for us, as we didn't want a google template ceremony.
Days before our wedding, she reviewed the notes she took months' before our wedding to make sure we incorporated all of the things that were important to us that had slipped our minds in midst of last-minute prep. We were so grateful that she remembered and captured it!
Joan arrived early to everything - rehearsal day, wedding day, and was exceedingly prepared for every event. She was available via coffee, text, email, google drive comments until the wee hours of the morning, and phone for last minute changes and additions.
Joan was uber flexible to work with and was a true godsend in every sense of the word.
I would hire her a million times over. She was the consummate professional and the ceremony was absolutely flawless thanks to her and her talents.
You'd be truly remiss not to hire her. She'll blow you away. -

We loved working with Joan
Joan was great to work with for our wedding. My husband and I were looking to have an interfaith ceremony - Christian and Jewish, and Joan was very helpful. The first time we met she gave us plenty of materials to review so that we could brainstorm what kind of structure and material we wanted to include. She really got to know us and was just super pleasant to work with. After we filled out her thorough questionnaire, she put together a first draft and was very open to our edits. On the wedding weekend, she came to rehearsal and did an amazing job at the wedding. She was on time and looked great. We thought she delivered the ceremony very well - Joan is clearly a great public speaker, she kept the guests engaged and brought personality to the ceremony that we loved. We thought she was very professional and everyone commented on what a wonderful job she did. -

Kathleen Sent on 04/30/2018Just perfect! Joan was so accommodating, meeting us in DC for an initial meet and greet; which was so smooth and comfortable we actually shared food. She has an ability to get to the heart of who a person is and relay it beautifully. Numerous guests at our wedding commented that it was the best or one of the best ceremonies they had ever experienced. Guests who didn't know our story were so happy to hear it and those who knew it enjoyed reliving it as Joan eloquently told it. I wanted lighthearted and humorous and she combined that with meaningful and tender. I cannot rave enough.
