    Rabbi Sparr is a Gem

Rabbi Sparr has wonderful energy and insights. She really made a point to get to know us during preparation and helped really tailor the wedding to our Jewish identity. She was remarkably communicative, organized and helpful as we prepared for the wedding providing detailed documents, reference materials and insights into Jewish traditions.

Additionally, Rabbi Sparr was able to roll with the challenges of planning a wedding during the pandemic and assisted us in ensuring that safety was a top priority. This was part of her and our plan from the beginning and the safety protocols were clear and easy for everyone.

Lastly, we got a number of great comments from guests noting how Rabbi Sparr knew us so well, I think this was due to her nature and process during wedding preparations.

    I couldn't recommend her enough, she's great.

    Utterly Impressed

Rabbi Sparr did our wedding on Sunday, October 21st 2018 and she was fantastic.

We had a few meetings with her beforehand and it was very comfortable and she is very open to alternative lifestyles and is very funny.

She even had a tissue ready for me since I was balling like a baby because I was so happy during the ceremony!

What I didn't expect was her singing voice. When she did the Jewish sections she sang so beautifully and It was very special.

Rabbi Robin is absolutely fantastic. She helped us to construct a deeply meaningful Jewish-ish wedding that set the stage for the most wonderful event of our lives. People say that, 'cause, lord, one imagines that it is possible and hopes it will happen for them...but for us it was and a lot of credit goes to finding the perfect Rabbi for us.

It turns out just having a Jewish wedding when marrying a non-Jew with no interest in converting is hard to do. We searched for Rabbis and were lucky enough to find someone who exceeded our expectations in every way.

Rabbi Robin was flexible with our busy medical school schedule, meeting with us in an evening at her home and doing video chats for both a first meeting and follow up ones. She took my call in a moment of crisis about a more religious family member not interested in participating in a blessing. She was reassuring and available.

Most importantly, she gave just the right amount structure and support to what was a pretty traditional wedding in all the ways we wanted, a tisch and bedeken (but the women also got scotch), seven blessings, mutual circling, a priestly blessing in Hebrew. But for each choice, which she presented to us at just the right time, we made ourselves. We made changes to the English prayers so that we could both feel them more honestly in our hearts. All of that was felt by our family and friends. They loved the whole wedding but most remarked on the ceremony. Thank you Rabbi Robin for helping us not make it too long.

While some people have wonderful friends who can marry them, and that is 100% the best choice for them, Rabbi Robin was able to create a personal ceremony that felt much bigger than us, it was connected to both of our families and to my Jewish tradition in ways that felt real and important to my partner.

The ceremony that we created with Rabbi Sparr was my favorite part of our entire wedding. My husband and I wanted to create a romantic, joyful ceremony that celebrated my Jewish culture and also integrated my husband's Catholic background. Rabbi Sparr was easy to communicate with on Skype, email, phone, and we also had a great in-person meeting. She provided an outline and made suggestions based on our preferences and provided a lot of material for us to use as a source for readings, as well as helpful checklists to prepare for our day and gave feedback on the vows we wrote. On the day of our wedding Rabbi Sparr was relaxed and calm and that made us feel so comfortable. The ceremony was lighthearted, spiritual, and romantic. She has a beautiful singing voice. We got such great feedback from our guests that the ceremony was so "us." We laughed, we cried, it was amazing! Can't ask for much more! It was a pleasure working with Rabbi Sparr and I highly recommend her as a wedding officiant.

Cantor Sparr was great. She was friendly and easy to work with. She made the process simple and the ceremony memorable. I had more than one person come up to me to let me know how wonderful they thought she was. Couldn't have wished for anything better.

We LOVE Cantor Sparr!!! She was SUCH an integral part of our wedding, and made it the magical day that we had dreamed of. We had a blast at every pre-wedding meeting, and she helped us through every step of the way. We were pretty overwhelmed by planning the wedding at first, but she made everything really clear and the whole process was easy and fun. The service that she prepared especially for us was so beautiful -- I loved that she used SO much information about our history and us as a couple and weaved it into the service. All night at the party, our friends and family were telling us what an incredible service we had.

I can't thank Cantor Sparr enough for helping make our wedding so beautiful and meaningful.

Ok, full disclosure right from the top. As you might have guessed from my name, Robin is a relative of mine - a second cousin, to be exact. In the past she has officiated at the weddings of two of my cousins, and last summer, at my own.

So while I can't claim complete objectivity, I can still attest that in overhearing comments by other guests who had no personal connection to Robin, there was a consistent consensus that the her ceremonies are infused with a genuine warmth, a relaxed sense of humor that puts everyone at ease, and a deep spirituality - all of which combine to make for an unforgettable experience for the bride and groom and their family and friends.

Her professionalism and organizational skills make her a delight to work with in the planning stages as well. She asks insightful questions, and is able to get a real and intimate feel for each couple, so that each ceremony is unique and personal - and not at all formulaic.

Finally, it should be noted that she has outstanding cantorial skills - a gorgeous voice, comprehensive knowledge of Jewish laws and customs, and can accompany herself ably on guitar.

Our wedding day could not have been more perfect, and Robin Sparr was a big part of that perfection.

Cantor Robin was recommended by a family friend for our interfaith Catholic/Jewish ceremony. She was incredibly flexible, positive, and warm-hearted. We had some stumbles in planning our wedding, but Cantor Robin was always there to provide suggestions and reassurance that our ceremony was going to beautiful. Our wedding was everything we could have wanted and it was all thanks to Cantor Robin for bringing the ceremony together for us.

Robin was genuinely interested in the story of our relationship as a couple and the important role that our history and experiences played in planning a meaningful ceremony. She guided us toward thoughtful and critical conversations but had no personal agenda in doing so. She was invested in incorporating our personal voices into the ceremony. She truly helped to make the most important part of our wedding such a joyful experience. Thank you Robin!

I highly recommend Cantor Robin's services. She is warm, friendly, professional, and truly cares about each individual couple she works with. From the day she met us she was very focused on making sure our special day was exactly the way we wanted it to be. She takes the time to get to know each individual person. She is always available and very responsive. Cantor Robin was flexible in meeting with us especially during our busy planning time. She made us feel very comfortable the entire process and even when we were standing in front of two people. We were thrilled with our ceremony, it was exactly as we envisioned. We are so glad we chose Cantor Robin to be part of our Wedding day!

Rabbi Sparr is great to work with! She made planning our interfaith wedding so easy. She was crystal clear about all the parts that went into a Jewish wedding and if we wanted to remove something she gave us the right info on why it was done in a wedding and sometimes that changed our minds and we kept a part. If we decided to continue on with removing an item she didn't challenge us and allowed us to craft a ceremony that fit our unique needs. She was also very flexible with us and our challenging schedules - even meeting with us last minute in her home when a winter storm changed our plans. Everyone told us how beautiful our ceremony was and our friends and family are still talking about it several weeks after our wedding. We really feel that we made such a good choice in choosing Rabbi Sparr to officiate our wedding, most people look forward to their reception and remember that but for us - our ceremony was the best and most special part of our wedding.

Rabbi Sparr was absolutely amazing! We found her after we had a failed attempt with another Rabbi to make my husband (who is Catholic) and myself (Reformed Jewish) feel comfortable about having an interfaith wedding. Rabbi Sparr made both of us feel at ease and worked so well with my husbands Priest from his childhood. It truly was a dream to have her and have the ceremony of our dreams. It was so special and unique. Everyone complimented us on how great it was and how it was meaningful to both of us and our faiths. She was calm and collected and had everything under control the day of the wedding. It was perfect and we cannot thank her enough for her guidance and support and look forward to a continued relationship with her.

Rabbi Robin Sparr prepared us for and officiated our Jewish wedding ceremony this past April. She was very helpful in learning the customs and traditions involved in a Jewish wedding. Being Roman Catholic and my husband non practicing Jewish we had a lot to learn. Rabbi Robin was knowledgeable and helpful to complete all of the necessary steps leading up to the ceremony and helped us the day of the ceremony as well. She was very open to creating a ceremony that we felt comfortable with by having us pick readings, blessings and words that spoke to us and reflected us as a couple.

My husband was raised in an Conservative home, while I was raised in a half Jewish home. His parents had many demands of us, including having a Jewish ceremony that reflected many Conservative/Orthodox traditions and values. Conservative Rabbis turned us away and made me feel horrible about my Jewish identity, but Cantor Robin did not. She affirmed my faith and my identity, and she made me feel like a valuable part of the Jewish Community (something that I had always felt until I began looking for an officient).

Cantor Robin was kind, thoughtful, and responsive to our unique needs. She gave us many options for our ceremony, allowed us to customize our ceremony in way that truly reflected our beliefs, and supported us no matter what we choose. She was flexible with her time and met with us over the phone since we lived out of state. I did not think that I would find an officient who really knew and understood me like Cantor Robin did, but we connected easily and quickly. Most of all, I appreciated her honesty and support when things got stressful. Planning a ceremony is not easy, and it's even harder when two families with different values are coming together. Cantor Robin was never more than an email or phone call away, and her perspective and counseling was essential in helping us deal with the difficult situations we encountered throughout the process of planning our wedding. Thank you, Robin!

Our experience with Rabbi Sparr can be summed up in three bullet points: 1) She did not respond to calls/emails for a month after our initial conversation during which she promised to provide us with a contract; 2) She lost her file on us, and we had to repeat information we already provided her; 3) She failed to show up to our wedding, leaving us on the day of the event scrambling to find a replacement.

Rabbi Sparr started indicating her concern regarding the wedding as the forecast indicated that there would be a blizzard in Boston that weekend. For the record, weather reports indicated the snow would finish in the morning and that the weather would be calm by the time of the wedding, scheduled for 6:30pm. Additionally, all of the other vendors, as well as the venue itself had confirmed that they were all set to go and would allot additional time to arrive if road conditions made it necessary. Rabbi Sparr called our venue, and ended up hanging up on our wedding coordinator, after our coordinator told her that all other vendors planned to be there. By the day of the wedding, it was very clear that Rabbi Sparr was leaning towards not coming to the wedding. We both felt that she had no intention of coming from the initial phone call, as she kept asking about our backup plan. I should note that we had been married in a legal ceremony the prior week so an officiant was ceremonial, which Rabbi Sparr frequently mentioned. Nevertheless this was an integral aspect of our event, and you would imagine that an officiant would not make these sorts of judgments. Rabbi Sparr finally called on the day of the wedding itself to confirm that she would not be coming, citing weather concerns. By that time, the snow had stopped, the roads were clear and the sun was even shining. At no point did any of the other vendors even hint that there would be problems and all of them even arrived early just in case.

Jewish & Interfaith Weddings by Rabbi Robin Sparr's reply:

Thanks for your feedback. I'm so sorry that, due to the blizzard and hazardous road conditions that continued throughout the day and evening of your wedding, I was unable to safely drive to your location for your ceremony. This was the only time I've missed a ceremony in over 20 years as clergy. I am so glad to hear that you were able to find someone else to officiate for you.

I’m very disappointed that you feel your overall experience with me was negative, and that so much of your review contains misrepresentations. I never hung up on your planner; on the contrary, I had a pleasant and productive conversation with her. I did assure you early on that your date was secure even though I would be unable to prepare your agreement immediately due to the impending Jewish holy days. Throughout the planning process, I accommodated your ever-changing schedules as much as was possible. I also let you know a few days ahead of time that the weather forecast was dour, and expressed concerns about the date. Although the venue offered you alternate dates because of the blizzard, you proceeded as planned, and I am deeply sorry I could not get to you safely.

I did provide significant counseling and guidance through the many hurdles you both faced in your relationships with your families, friends and with one another, and also with some of your logistics, and strove to do an excellent job. I also did everything in my power to make it possible for your ceremony to take place without me, including sending you the complete word-for-word ceremony and "stage directions" so that another person on site could lead you through the rituals. My comments regarding your already being legally married were to the point that someone other than clergy could step into this role.

Please know that I wish you every blessing and happiness in your marriage, and am genuinely happy that you were able to celebrate the day mostly as planned.
