I've been snapping pics at the Islander Resort for family and wedding gigs, and let me tell you, it's one heck of a spot in Islamorada. This place is like a dream for a photographer like me, offering up a bunch of cool backdrops that make every shot pop.
What's awesome about the Islander? Well, first off, there's this huge stretch of ocean that gives me all the room I need for those big wedding group shots. Imagine the ocean in the background, surrounded by tropical greenery and tons of gorgeous palm trees – it's like a photo paradise.
Come sunset, I always hustle my couples over to the pier. The sky lights up with candy colors, and the ocean just adds that extra oomph to make the pics romantic and timeless. Seriously, it's like the perfect setting for those lovey-dovey moments.
And let's not forget the Islander Resort staff – they're the real MVPs. Super friendly to guests and even us wedding vendors. They've got the whole hospitality thing down pat, making every event smooth and fun.
So, bottom line? The Islander Resort isn't just a venue; it's my playground for making awesome memories. With its mix of landscapes, killer sunsets, and friendly vibes, it's hands down one of my go-to spots for capturing love and celebrations. -

Our wedding at Islander Resort was nothing short of magical! From the first time we toured, we knew we found a truly special place. The setting is breathtaking and created the most romantic backdrop we could think of.
The staff--particularly Anna with the events team and our favorite bartender Kelly --went above and beyond throughout the whole process. They were attentive, detailed, and so easy! Our guests are still raving about the delicious food, incredible service, and overall experience at the resort.
The ceremony and reception space is lush, elegant, and completely intimate--set off to the side of the rest of the property. It was a perfect combination of coastal and sophisticated.
We would choose Islander Resort all over again in a heartbeat, and we're already planning a trip back! -

The Best Place to have a Wedding!
What an amazing place to have a wedding! You have so many choices: on the beach, on the lawn or in the ballroom. Amazing sunrise every morning my sisters wedding was perfect, the pictures are not ready yet but wait I will post! The wedding was perfect, service, food but most importantly was the beautiful setup of the tent, the decorations, the pictures, just stunning! Beautiful resort and it also has another part where you can dock your boat called Bayside. After the wedding we jumped on the boat and fished, swam, fed Tarpons at Islamorada fish company, went back to party on the floating couches in the middle of the ocean with butler service on the water it was amazingly fun! Rooms beautiful, as soon as you step out of your room you are surrounded by nature, beauty, and a beautiful place to take amazing pictures to post. Definitely booking this resort again! -

slander Resort amazing has Bayside Villas perfect for boaters
I want to share how much I love this resort! I was at the Islander for several days of meetings and stayed on the Bayside part of the resort.
I pulled in by boat to the private dock slips and checked into a beautiful bay
Front Villa. It looked brand new with living room, kitchen, and plenty of space for family gatherings! I then walked upstairs and was really happy to see such beautiful bedrooms. I will definitely be bringing my family here. Beautiful pool, the works. The best part is this was only part of the resort, I called for a pick up and got in a golf cart and headed to the beach side of the resort! Gorgeous, so much space, I will be bribing lots of people here in the future for sure. They have 2 pools a jacuzzi an amazingly large beach you could have a large wedding on that beach and there would still be room for 100 more people. Beautiful cabanas, a great food truck, fire pits,beach cafe,and we were lucky our meetings went perfectly, great attention to detail, good food and then we really got to enjoy the beauty of Islamorada! With this resort we were able to enjoy both sunrises and sunsets! I have never stayed in a resort where you had so much and could enjoy this. I actually extended my stay called my friends who live in FL to drive their boats here to meet up with us on the weekend. I had no idea that this was the best fishing location and the best place to eat delicious fish. Needless to say everyone loved the new resort that we all fell in love with. I highly recommend the villas for boaters and family events because you can stay together. I will try the beach rooms the next time I go and I am sure I will have a lot of great things to say. Highly recommend this resort! -

Wedding guest
This is the second time I was at this resort, this time was for a wedding and it was absolutely stunning. We love staying here. The rooms are clean, spacious and very bright with a nice private patio that we can enjoy our morning cup of coffee and tea looking out at the sunrise. We enjoyed our breakfast at Elements which is amazing and the food along with the selections for the wedding was amazing. The whole set up was stellar! I highly recommend this resort!!! -

The Ultimate Wedding Venue in The Florida Keys!!
As a local Wedding Photographer who has been photographing Weddings through out the Florida Keys for fifteen years, The Islander Resort is my personal favorite wedding venue to capture Weddings! I can not say enough about the beauty of this resort! It offers the BEST backdrops of all of the Florida Keys! From the long stretch of beach to the most beautiful lush tropical landscaping, it simply will take your breath away. I photograph over 25 weddings per year at The Islander Resort and I can honestly say that each and every couple has had the best experience on their wedding day! The staff at the property is outstanding, professional, and always always available no matter how big or small your requests may be. If you are looking for a Destination Wedding Venue, don't look any further! Book them now! You will be so happy you did! -

From the moment my husband and I looked at this location and met Dawn we knew this was the place and we were in good hands. The Islander is spacious and relaxing, provides the options to be the party or relax in quiet, while maintaining privacy for our Wedding and guests during and surrounding the Wedding, as well as providing contingency plans for the weather especially winds, which is very important in the Keys. The day we got married we had to pull back from the water to the Oasis, and it was still absolutely beautiful!! Communication was excellent throughout the process including on the Wedding Day and even after. Dawn and Marissa were so easy to get a hold of, professional, and helped with any concerns and issues along the way and I was so happy they were both present on our Day!! Our tasting went great, the chef and team were above board and willing to work with us on a custom menu, executing it even better on the Day, made sure I got a plate to eat and ate, and even made home made perogies for us!! We had a near issue with our baker and they were even going to help us get desserts. The team at the Islander was professional, courteous, respectful, and we were truly very happy, grateful, and pleased to have worked with them and all they contributed to our Wedding, as they were a part of our beautiful and absolutely perfect Wedding.
All the vendors complemented how easy it was to work with each other, our guests complimented how great they did here, some have even already returned for family vacations, and one is planning a family 50th! So to say is was a success is an understatement. Thank you all so much, we miss you, and will be back to visit!!

Unbelievable! Exceeeded expectations!
I was married 3/25/23 at the Islander and it is truly hard to put into words how perfect the Islander was not only my wedding day and weekend but the entire year. We were blown away. From the second we set the date in February, Dawn was available around the clock and went above and beyond. We took a couple trips down, did our engagement shoot and she was always over accomodating during our stays. Every person at our wedding was blown away by the service and the flawless execution of our day. Everyone knows and expects wedding food to be average however our guests- lots foodies- were BLOWN away by the quality. We did stations and Dawn and team executed my design dreams and menu. Cocktail hour was full of plenty of amazing quality and quantity of food. I know people will be talking about our wedding because of our venue more than anything else! The bartenders, staff, everyone was amazing. Dawn personally checked on us, had drinks for us, took us on the golf cart for pics and wasnt a second she didnt ask "what do you need" which wasnt much because her team was on point! The suites are a must, fabulous near private part of the resort with our family. I am so proud to be an Islander bride and will be going back for years to come. They have felt like family and I honestly will miss the flawless execution leading up to our day and that weekend. I was very involved with my planning and the year of communication was top, top notch. Again, I truly cant say enough about the Islander and promise any future bride that a venue cannot be topped in Islamorada! We love you Islander! Incredible experience. The most amazing Florida Keys backdrop. Actually there are multiple different spaces for any number of requests. I used 5 different spaces for my weekend long celebration with 65% out of state guests. Service, professionalism, organization, reliability - all 5 stars. Food - I did a surf and turf. My guests couldn’t stop talking about what an amazing venue, the food, the location, their weekend. The Islander is incredible and worth every single penny. -

This venue ended up turning out more amazing than we could've ever expected. Between the service, food, the views and the amazing staff. Dawn was always there for us when we needed her and worked with our wedding planner Lmae events perfectly. I can't say enough about how good the food was, best wedding food we've ever had and the service was unreal. I'm so happy that I looked away from Cheeca which up close looks nice but has nothing that the Islander can offer. This was the best venue for my Husband and I. We would highly suggest this to anyone looking for an amazing experience for your wedding. -

Our original wedding venue was destroyed in Hurricane Ian and we diverted to the Islander Resort! We truly believe everything happens for a reason because this was way better than could have ever imagined! We booked the wedding without visiting, just from photos and from talking to Dawn Drake. From the time I spoke to her, she was so awesome, so helpful and I just knew we made the right decision for our venue! The whole process from planning in just 2 short months to execution was so smooth. Dawn, Marissa and their team helped us plan to a perfect wedding! Dawn also recommended my amazing planner, Frond & Feather Events!
From the time we arrived at Islander, all the staff were so welcoming and we just fell in love with the vibe and how beautiful it is! Beautifully decorated, upgraded and clean. All of our guests complimented on the venue, the delicious food and the service! Jason in catering was very helpful at Elements and took care of us whenever we saw him. The wedding staff from servers to bartenders were wonderful! The food again, was so delicious and a luxe menu! The site is so beautiful, plenty of space on the Great Lawn yet it still felt so private and intimate! Dawn, Marissa and their team are so so sweet and helpful and did an amazing job putting together our wedding and making sure we had an amazing weekend!! We are so grateful! We highly recommend the Islander Resort for a wedding or vacation. We will be back!! -

We loved everything about our wedding weekend! It’s the perfect venue because your group has a fun resort to gather at all weekend, but the actual ceremony and reception areas are set away from the main hotel portion, making it feel a lot more private than other hotel venues in the keys. You really get the best of both worlds and can seamlessly transition from beach to lawn to patio. The staff were all super helpful and accommodating! -

Absolutely beautiful and perfect for our failed elopement :) We ended up with 14 guest and we all had the best time at this resort!
We used an outside wedding planning company and we were guest at the Islander. We paid to have our ceremony on location. Amanda with the Islander was wonderful to work with throughout all stages! The Islander staff saved the wedding day when rain and high winds came in minutes before the ceremony. We were moved to an alternate, outdoor but covered area that still had an amazing beach view!! -

We dreamed of getting married on the beach and the Islander Resort turned out to be the perfect location. The Islander is a stunning property located in Islamorada, FL. The rooms are updated, there is an on-site restaurant and lots of activities available. Our wedding spanned over 3 locations--a beach ceremony, a cocktail hour under the trees, and an indoor reception (the food was SO good). Originally, I was stressed because the weather was not looking favorable and I was worried about guest health due to COVID, but Amanda really came through for us when it came to planning. She was prompt and concise in all of her replies and went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. We could not have imagined a more beautiful and special day -

The Islander is most impressive wedding venue in the keys. We had our ceremony on the beach, cocktail hour under the palm trees, and reception on the terrace all on the north side of the property, which felt so private and was very convenient for our guests. The hotel and banquet staff were wonderful!! We postponed our wedding from March to September and everything turned out the way it was meant to be. Our guests are already talking about making plans to go back and visit the Islander, it will always hold a special place in all of our hearts. We had an amazing experience. -

When we were first looking at wedding venues, the Islander immediately appealed to us for its beachfront setting and "dog friendly" rooms. Once the pandemic hit, our wedding numbers went way down and were debating rescheduling our July 4th wedding. Ultimately we decided to go for it and we are so glad we did! The Islander was more than accommodating with the ever-changing situation and was the perfect place to host our friends and family. Dan Martin was especially helpful and worked closely with my family to make sure our day was everything we wanted it to be. We had SO much fun and will definitely return for anniversaries! -

The Islander Resort was the most stunning venue I could have ever asked for my wedding to be celebrated. Our amazing on site event coordinator was Denise who was such a pleasure to work with. Planning a wedding from St. Augustine, FL that’s being held in Islamorada, Florida Keys was tough but having Denise as our point of contact made things run so much smoother. I wouldn’t change a thing about our whole experience and I would highly recommend The Islander Resort to anyone looking for a wedding venue. -

I cannot say enough great things about the location, lushness of the grounds, staff, etc. Our wedding was in January, and it was perfect. Amanda was so easy to correspond with since we live states away. Her responsiveness, help with vendors, flexibility, etc. was unmatched. She truly is the shining star of the Islander! You will not beat the views here, warmness of the staff, and guest rooms/accommodations; trust me, we looked! Couldn't be happier with how our special day turned out. -

Seamless experience at the Islander. Lots of options available at reasonable prices. They very patient with us as our planning evolved over the course of a few months and promptly requoted as we wanted to price out different scenarios for dinner. Communication was excellent. A team met with us a few days before our event to walk through where things would be set up on the grounds. When we had a different idea than what they 'usually' did, they quickly adjusted and set up exactly how we asked. They even set out our sign in book and sand ceremony rather than us having to task someone to do that the day of. And for our favors, someone actually double sided taped our name tags on them so they wouldn't blow away. Little details like allowed us to just enjoy the day! -

Where do I even begin to explain how amazing everyone at the Islander is, and what an incredibly gorgeous venue they offer? I planned a wedding in Islamorada from Georgia, with my husband living half the time in the Keys and half the time in Atlanta....everything about it was crazy. But from the first contact with Denyse, she made everything as easy and smooth as she possibly could. Denyse treats your wedding like her own. Your visions, wishes, wants, needs, and fear and uncertainty all become her visions, wishes, wants and needs, and she completely takes away the fear an uncertainty. She makes you feel like she lives and breathes your wedding from day 1 until the magical night is over. Any time I had a question (or 20), no matter how big or small, even down to the tiniest minute detail that seems silly, she was only a quick phone call away. She ALWAYS responds immediately, and ALWAYS helps. She worked with me on our budget and expectations, read my mind and completed my sentences a few times, and truly made us feel so special. I felt like we made a friend. She is amazing in every way. No wedding planning process is perfect, and life presented a few hurdles during ours (which had nothing to do with the Islander), but Denyse helped in every single way possible and did it flawlessly. She is one of those awesome people that give 1000% and go above and beyond in everything.
The other staff members are fantastic to work with as well! Connie and Taylor helped with all of the logistics and coordination of guest rooms and suites, and were always happy to answer my questions. I must have called Connie 5 or 6 times to try to figure out where to put ourselves and family, and she was always so helpful and kind and always had great advice.
Patrick was incredible the day of our wedding. He truly executed on detail, and was always on top of everything. The small touches truly matter, and Patrick definitely pays attention to those. For example, I fully expected to never even see a crumb of an hors d'oeuvre from our cocktail hour, and that was okay. But we were so delighted when Patrick brought out a little plate of everything from our cocktail hour. We were just excited we got to try it and it meant a lot to us he had thought about that. The entire evening went flawlessly....but if something didn't, Patrick and the staff definitely made sure we didn't even notice!
All of our food was sooooo good! We picked a menu and had a plated dinner, which was delivered beautifully. It's difficult to serve a lot of wedding guests all at once and not either lose someone in the process, or have some guests waiting for a while to receive their food. That absolutely did not happen, and everything was hot, fresh, DELICIOUS, and cooked perfectly.
I can't even tell you how truly beautiful the property itself is post remodel. It is absolutely stunning. We spent a lot of time at the Islander before the hurricane so we had no doubt it would be just as beautiful, but we were absolutely floored during our first visit. The rooms are so gorgeous, the attention to detail is unbelievable, and the owner's wife is out there herself literally on her hands and knees in flower beds making sure everything is immaculate and perfect. I was a little nervous about a few details since the property was just finishing up the final touches right around the time of our wedding. Looking back on that, it was clear I completely wasted my time giving that even a second thought, because the entire staff (owner included) paid attention to every detail of how our wedding weekend would look to us and our guests.
It also seemed to me that all of the staff at the resort had been trained with that "Ritz Carlton" white glove style level of service in mind. At check in, the girls are so polite and gracious while offering a glass of prosecco, and any time you pass any staff member they ALWAYS looked you in the eye and greeted you. That level of detail is a big one and everyone should get a pat on the back for that!
The property amenities are amazing too! Our guests had a blast all weekend, and we even ended up having an accidental impromptu pool day with many of our guests the day before our wedding! That was one of everyone's favorite memories from the entire weekend! I can't imagine how many Miami Vice and Rum Punch drinks were made by the bar that day!
It is so nice to get to spend that much time with your guests! To me, that was one of the very best things about a destination wedding at a resort! The Islander was so perfect for that!
I'm sure I have missed a detail to write about during our experience, but suffice it to say literally everything was perfect. I truly mean that. Absolutely everything. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to Denyse, Patrick, Connie, Taylor, and the rest of the Islander staff that had a hand in our wedding weekend. My eyes fill up with tears writing this just thinking about the truly perfect wedding we had. It couldn't have been done without all of you and how much you cared. We are so grateful! -

We booked with Islander at the beginning of 2017 for our planned Feb 18 wedding. Due to Hurricane Irma, we postponed our wedding another year. The Islander had suffered a lot of damage and had to close their doors to renovate. When they did open again, we were amazed how gorgeous it was. The landscaping is breath taking. The rooms are gorgeous. There were two weddings the day of ours and the Islander did a fantastic job. The food was outstanding, the service phenomenal. Denyse worked with us for 2 years to make sure we had the wedding of our dreams. And we did. The staff at the Islander could not have been any nicer. All our needs were met for our guests including my 100 year old grandfather who they made sure had a ride to every event. Our wedding was so fun and beautiful that all our guests were blown away. Many will be returning for their own vacations! We will be back for every anniversary! Thank you Islander! -

Kacie Sent on 05/31/2016I spent a week in Islamorada looking at potential wedding venues. I checked out pretty much everywhere possible and absolutely fell in love with the Islander! The location was perfect. I was really looking for some where relaxed that our guests would love. There’s so much to do at the Islander. The beach is huge and gorgeous, the pools are amazing and the Tiki Bar area is super fun! I’m so happy I had the wedding of my dreams here!
Working with Connie on our room block was SUCH a pleasure. I even stopped by wedding week to give her a big hug. She was so helpful!
Karly and Denyse were fantastic to work with! They made sure everything went smoothly the day of the wedding and the food was sooo good!
Patrick was amazing! We met a few days before the wedding and I knew I was in good hands after we all did the final walk through! I can’t wait to come back to the Islander!! It’s a perfect vacation spot and an even better place for a wedding!!!

Sarah Sent on 04/26/2014We spent the week ahead of our wedding here, and loved it! That guy Vern at the bar was very personable and remembers who you are like it's easy. We had a one bedroom suite so we could entertain the day of without having to make people sit on the bed.
Our wedding was very relaxed and the informal rehearsal dinner poolside was so fun! Definately try the Cuban sandwich and fried pickles!
The day of was wonderful and if you are ever placed right next door to the "other" bride of the day, don't worry. We saw each other's wedding parties but that was it, no body got in anyone's way.
Corie was wonderful with the details of the reception set up. We only had 30 guests, but we didn't feel overwhelmed in the ground floor ballroom. The bartender was quick and friendly and didn't skimp. The buffet was set up in the entry way, which kept the noise and "show" to a minimum. There was so much good food! Most went back for seconds, some only for the fish which was so beautifully done it was the first thing to run out. We decided to use the resort's cake, which was delicious! A great alternative if you aren't a fan of fondant.
The resort also worked well with my other vendors, helped the band with the beach setup/power source and gave all day for the ceremony set up. There weren't any morning weddings that weekend.

Michelle Sent on 03/15/2012I had the wedding of my dreams at the Islander Resort in Islamorada, Florida. It was the most beautiful site with the most professional and caring staff I have ever dealt with. Casey, the wedding coordinator and Pam, the catering manager really know weddings.
They treated me like a princess bride and my guests had wonderful weekend accomodations in the heart of the Florida Keys.
Lovely, lovely, lovely.
Delicious food, open bar and Casey also knew who to refer as far as tent rentals, linens, DJ and hair salon. -

Well someone must have been looking over us as it was always meant to be at the Islander Resort. We can't imagine having our ceremony and reception any place else so much so that we have booked our 1 year anniversay to go back. Pam and Dee are amazing and will go over and above to make sure everything is perfect! They worked their buns off the day of our wedding making sure we were happy. The food was absolutely amazing. We went with a buffet providing our guests with a taste of the Keys from Shrimp and Grouper to a wonderful island style beef. The Islander was also our host hotel and Shannon and her staff made sure all of our guest were taken care of. You will soon see that working with everyone at the Islander is so easy that they become family. We were so sad at the end of our wedding weekend to leave because we so enjoyed working with everyone at the Islander. We can't wait to see them in a year. -

Gorgeous venue!!! Highly recommend!
Truly such a wonderful venue that can accommodate a very large amount of people (we had 160 and many more could fit comfortably). The entire area is stunning and we couldn’t have asked for a more perfect wedding. We did the ceremony in the grass, reception under the tent in the grass, cocktail hour on the sand, and dance floor was the patio. The food was delicious, the staff was kind, and the views can’t be beat. The grass space is one of a kind in the keys and offers more comfort and brighter pictures than the typical sandy keys venues. Some things to consider: it is pricey but honestly on the lower side compared to some equivalent Islamorada venues; the inside space only accommodated 120 people so it doesn’t work as a rain plan if you have much more than that so you need a tent (we had a tent which was beautiful but incredibly pricey); the staff is helpful but sometimes communication was difficult so we had to be a bit pushy but they pulled through on everything; I also recommend using a planner that has had events there before because the experience is very helpful. -

Best Wedding Experience!
We had the most incredible wedding at the Islander this November. Dawn and the team at the resort where FABULOUS! They worked with myself, my husband and wedding planner for the last 1.5 years to help make our dream come true. Everything starting from the property tour, menu tasting, including numerous changes along the way and being able to support 120 of our closest friends and family- they made it so easy and accommodating for us. Not to mention how beautiful their property is. I will sing Dawn and team here at the Islander so many praises. Now we can't wait to come back for our anniversary. -

This wedding was EVERYTHING I have ever dreamed of. Amanda was amazing, the venue was incredible, the food was so good - I literally do not have one bad thing to say. Everything turned out exactly as I pictured and the day of the wedding was seamless. I wish I could replay this day over and over! -

Terra Sent on 09/25/2012Overall we give the Islander a score of 3.0 based on the stress that was added to us by not feeling we could have complete faith in our coordinator but the Islander itself was beautiful.
This is a three part review:
The Venue: 5.0
The Islander itself is wonderful. The view from their patio & Tiki Bar is great for relaxing, watching the beach as well as watching sports while enjoying the tropical breeze. Both pools are clean and well maintained. The grounds themselves are very well taken care taken care of and the rooms are kept very clean.
The Catering: 4.5
The chef at the Islander is great. The food was all delicious and our guests were all very complimentary of the menu. The key lime tarts they have there are out of this world! I don’t even like key lime pie but these were amazing. I would definitely recommend the tarts if you are having an event at the Islander.
The Coordinator / Staff: 2.8
Everyone was extremely pleasant but on numerous occasions we were told one thing & then called to discuss it later & were told “oh we can’t do that”. Six weeks prior to our wedding, our coordinator was changed to someone we hadn’t met & on two separate occasions did not show up to meetings with us. Both times she had a valid reason for not showing but there was no call or email alerting us that we would have to reschedule so we arrived & were told very nicely that she wasn’t working that day. It took us getting the GM involved to get results. I do have to insert at this point that the GM was awesome! She addressed our frustration & made us feel that our decision to choose the Islander was not a mistake. At the ceremony itself, our coordinator did pull things together but again it was as though she didn’t know exactly what she was doing. Decorations were missed, communication was lacking and although the ceremony & reception turned out beautifully I just felt as though she should have been calling to give us direction instead of us calling her. -

The Islander is a stunning venue for a wedding, but I highly recommend hiring an experienced wedding planner to help navigate some of the challenges with the resort's communication and internal processes. Unfortunately, it seems "system errors" and last-minute updates are a recurring theme, based on conversations with other brides and vendors.
In my case, I didn’t even receive the final Banquet Event Order (BEO) to sign until the night before the wedding—despite the contract stating it was due 10 days in advance—because their system was down.
Also, do not book your rooms through the event planning team. Despite spending a significant amount on the wedding, we arrived only to find out our rooms weren’t available. It was incredibly stressful. They did offer 50% off the groom’s suite to compensate, but I was placed in a bridal suite with a broken toilet and no working AC. Having maintenance personnel coming in and out while 10 of us were getting ready in the heat was not exactly the calm bridal experience I’d hoped for.
The venue itself is beautiful, but be prepared and proactive in managing the planning process.
