Gary was simply fantastic! I'm from the southern California area but my husband and I currently live in Germany. We planned our wedding from abroad which made things harder than they are usually :). We found Gary Barmore from GreatOfficiants.com. We emailed back and forth many times prior to our wedding, and met officially the Monday before the ceremony. As soon as we met Gary, everything was so at ease!! My husband and I were so relieved and trusted Gary instantly. We spent a few hours at his home planning our ceremony and he even spoke some German words during our ceremony (hubby is German). We couldn't have been more pleased and ecstatic! Gary was incredibly professional and everything was just lovely. I would recommend him over and over if anyone asked!

We found Gary through Electra Cruises as our marrying captain and I am so glad we went with him. He is kind, thoughtful, and delivered a beautiful service for us. He is also clergy, but we went with a non-denominational ceremony that still managed to be quite spiritual, which pleased the more religious folks in the crowd without making the less religious people uncomfortable. He meets with each of the couples he marries ahead of time to map out the ceremony and tailor it to the individuals involved, which is a nice touch. It was all the little details, like having us face the crowd or stepping out of the way so that the photographer could capture just the two of us during the ceremony that really showed his experience.

I have to admit - I'd always been more excited about the wedding reception than the ceremony! But Gary provided exceptional support and guidance for our wedding. My groom and I had very little vision for the ceremony but Gary put us at ease and helped us get excited about the words and the meaning behind it. He also managed to get the entire bridal party comfortable in the moments before the ceremony and it really showed during the actual event. Many of our guests and family members commented on the lovely mood of the ceremony - they all agreed that Gary orchestrated the event perfectly. Not to mention that he had great advice and instruction about how to file the paperwork for the wedding license. Gary is a great guy and I only hope that he never retires so many more couples can benefit from his kind heart and coaching presence on their wedding days!

What a wonderful service that Gary provided to us! He was so personable and very relaxed when conducting our ceremony, which helped calm my jitters, too. He did not read off of note cards but remembered everything about the ceremony that we planned together and executed it perfectly. He was also very patient with me when I missed our first appointment due to all the other wedding stuff cluttering my brain. He was flexible and we arranged for another time to discuss the details. As an interfaith minister, he was able to appeal to my husband's and my personal religious views while at the same time making others in the audience comfortable. Very wonderful!

I feel extremely lucky that Gary Barmore was available to officiate my wedding, which was on an extremely popular day, 11-11-11. I was a little nervous at first after reading the unfavorable review from Jill, and also a little because he was still available, when so many I called were already booked. I could not have been more wrong, and I knew that right when we met with him prior to our wedding day. He made us feel comfortable, asked if we knew what kind of ceremony we wanted, gave us some ideas, asked questions, took notes, explained how everything would work and in what order, but told us not to worry about anything, that he would guide us through. We did not rehearse, we did not worry, and he did exactly as he promised and guided us through. It went so smoothly no one would even think we didn’t rehearse. Our parents and guests thought he was fantastic; some were even surprised that he didn’t know us prior to our wedding. We felt wonderful about our choice, because all the positive comments we got about Gary, to us he is a 5+

Truth be told, Gary made my wedding! I loved that he was able to personalize our vows and ceremony to us. He took the time out to get to know my husband and I and created an extremely memorable ceremony! I also appreciated that he took the time to also listen to our needs and wants.

Gary was part of the fleet of captains that are available for Electra Cruises. We picked him because I thought that he meshed with what we were looking for.
We met at his house a couple weeks before and he nearly made us cry with the way he laid out the ceremony. Good start!
Not only was he a nice officiant, but he was also very open minded with his beliefs. We loved that. Although he didn't say anything about it during the ceremony, just knowing that really gave us piece of mind.
I kind of want to touch on what another reviewer said about not attending rehearsals. It was made clear to me upon meeting the officiant and meeting with our coordinator that the officiants don't attend rehearsals. I'm not sure if the venue she used made that clear to her. I understand wanting to have him there for the rehearsal, but since he's done so many weddings on Electra, the coordinators know exactly how the ceremony goes. The rehearsal without him pretty much lined up with the way the actual wedding went.

We selected Gary based off a list our venue provided us. We asked his fee = $300, if he would stay for dinner after the ceremony = no, and about the ceremony. We decided to hire him.

We live about 1.5 hrs (each way) from where the ceremony and Gary are. He asked that we drive to his home stating “That meeting lets us get to know each other better as we craft the details of the ceremony." So, we took a Saturday and made the 3 hr round trip drive to him. The meeting lasted 15-20 minutes.

The next day we emailed him with the details of the rehearsal that would take place in a few weeks and invited him to join us for dinner after, he declines dinner and informs us that he doesn’t attend rehearsals. We had never heard of an officiant not attending a rehearsal and all felt discomfort about learning this!

After a back and forth correspondence he lets us know his schedule is free but he would like an additional $100 but again reiterates he won’t stay for dinner. We respond that we can’t afford that (he was aware we had just bought our first home) so if he won’t rehearse with us we would just like a written correspondence of what to expect at the wedding. He responds that he "will certainly be there for the rehearsal, as a personal contribution...as a pastor I want to respond to human need regardless of remuneration." We were thrilled, as were our families.

A few weeks later its our wedding rehearsal and at rehearsal Gary says he would now like to stay for dinner and he has brought his wife, whom he would also like to join us. We felt very hurt by the way he handled this, he had declined on two occasions our offer to join us at the rehearsal dinner, so we certainly weren’t anticipating paying for two additional guests dinner and drinks that evening. Had he changed his mind and wanted to join, we think he should have reached out prior to the actual rehearsal to make accommodations and allowed us to budget for that. Second, we were taken aback by the expectation for us to pay for his wife, when she is not associated to what we hired him for.

So, at the last minute, we had to add two additional seats, rearrange the tables and pay for two additional people we had not budgeted for. Having made it clear in our emails we didn’t have an additional $100 that he requested from us to attend the rehearsal, we felt hurt. However, we didn’t feel it would be in our best interest to state our feelings around it, when he was performing our ceremony the next day, and it would be one of the biggest days of our lives.

It left a bad taste in ours and our rehearsal guests mouths. The experience leading up to the wedding certainly overrode the performance. We gave him 2.5 stars to remain neutral, because we aren’t trying to influence judgment; however, we wanted to make sure to share our experience and are glad we have the platform to do so.
