The good: We chose the Crowne Plaza because we liked the package deal (they do catering, including alcohol, and their wedding package includes a few things for the reception as well as a hotel room for the bride & groom). We also liked the convenience--especially for people with young kids and for anyone who wanted to have a few drinks without anyone having to worry about driving. We also used their courtyard for our ceremony. It was not part of the package, but added on for what seemed like a fair price. That also meant decorating the courtyard was up to us (as opposed to the reception hall--we provided decorations and instructions and they set them all up for us). Overall, we were really happy with the way the CP staff worked with our other vendors (cake baker, band, and photographer) and their organization for the ceremony and the reception.

The bad: There are a few reasons I didn't give perfect ratings, though. We had some difficulties with communication in the beginning. They changed email carriers without notifying us, and since we relied on email a lot to stay in touch it took me longer than it should have to get on the phone with them and figure out why they weren't responding... There were also some pretty minor but annoying issues with the contracts (problems with our guest room group rate being correct, misspelling my husband's name more than once). Our primary contact left halfway through our planning, and once new people took over things seemed to go more smoothly.
They also failed to serve our "satellite" cake despite that being specifically noted in the event plan. I don't think any of the guests really noticed that we were short on cake, but we were stuck with a lot of it left over.
My parents had issues with their room key--they got locked out of their suite at least 3 or 4 times. They were repeatedly told "you shouldn't carry your room key next to your cell phone," which of course they made sure not to do after the FIRST time. Finally, when it happened at 1am or so and they were told the same thing AGAIN, my dad got a little upset and they finally sent someone out to take a look at the lock.

So, big picture, we had a great time, our guests had a great time, and we were happy with the Crowne Plaza as our ceremony site, reception site, caterer, and primary guest hotel. However, there were certainly a few details that I'd expect a venue that claims to be as experienced and professional as the CP to have handled a little better.
