The Only Photographer You Need!

Don Mears was the only photographer I ever considered. When I was forced to reschedule a week prior to my original date due to COVID, his availability was the only one I cared for my new dates out of all my vendors. This is how much I love the photography and art Don produces.

On our actual day, it was a relaxed environment and we were able to get every single photo requested in time for the ceremony and cocktail hour. Don was able to wrangle in all of the bridal party and family members quickly for each photo, so that my husband and I could enjoy the rest of the night. I have not stopped hearing compliments from our guests about the work Don has produced. One of my favorites is “Your photographer was one of the hardest working ones I’ve ever seen. I won’t forget watching him bolt up the steps in the lodge to try and capture a moment below”. Watching him pop in and out of the crowd capturing some of our favorite moments will be unforgettable.

It has been 2 weeks and our photos are already populating on the private website provided. I’ve heard horror stories from other couples who waited 6 months after their wedding. If I have any other life events that need to be documented, Don will be the first person I call.

Don is a Master

Don and his team were super professional. He kept us on schedule and more importantly captured all the big moments. He is a master of what he does. Hiring Don is the easiest decision you should have to make in your planning process!

Look no further - Don is a true OG!

I can not even begin to do Don justice with this review. He is simply amazing. We had 75 guests at our wedding, so we only hired him (no additional photographer or assistant). I can not believe how quickly he got around and captured EVERYTHING! Looking through the photos, it looks like there were multiple photographers running around. He is a magician and an absolute artist. He is also hilarious and sarcastic, which fit into our family and friends so perfectly. Honestly, he felt like he was just another fun guest at our wedding. 10/10 would HIGHLY recommend!!!

Don was AMAZING! From the beginning, we knew he was going to be a good fit. His calm, relaxed demeanor was exactly what our wedding needed. My husband felt weird being posed and photographed but after our engagement session and really getting to know Don he looked forward to more photos! Don was lighthearted when he needed to be but also serious about getting the perfect shot. He was great for my bridal portraits. We were nervous because of the weather changes in spring and flowers not blooming at Maymont so we got an incredible opportunity to shoot at 2 locations and Don was fully on board! On the wedding day, it was hectic and we asked a lot of him with a long list of must-have pictures with a lot of people but he did it and never lost his cool! He got a great picture of EVERYONE invited to the wedding in front of the cathedral which was not easy but it turned out amazing. I asked for a night picture downtown on Cary St. with the cobblestones and he was so dedicated to the shot he laid in the middle of the street to get the perfect shot and it was beautiful, everything I wanted it to be! He also did things I wouldn't have even known was possible like illuminating under my dress (yes, it sounds weird but it looked amazing!). Finally, what really made my day was the next morning after, I had family come up and say that if they wanted a picture he never said no. Even his second photographer was awesome, they never said no to any picture! It was awesome to feel like I didn't have to worry about this major part of the wedding; he put us completely at ease!

Don Mears is hands down the best! Look no further -- he is worth every penny! Don and his wife Lindsey were able to blend in the background on our wedding day and capture all the beautiful interactions and details that flew by us in the moment. I normally hate taking time away from events to do staged photos, but Don made the experience painless. He is a expert on finding great spots for photos so you don't have to worry at all about planning!

We cannot say enough wonderful things about our experience with Don Mears. He has a laid back personality that makes you feel instantly at ease, yet he doesn't hesitate to take charge to ensure he gets the shot. The two compliments we got ALL night long from our guests were about our venue and our photographer. All the guests were impressed just watching him work, and of course even more so once we received the finished product. We couldn't be happier with the photos, and our experience from the very start to the very end, we wholeheartedly would recommend him for your next event!

Don and Lindsay are amazing to work with and their photography is of the highest quality. My husband, myself and our families are so glad we were able to work with them for our wedding and the photography certainly exceeded our expectations! Don and Lindsay shot not only our wedding day, but also engagement photos and bridal portraits. When I initially reached out to them, Don set up a quick call (we were planning our wedding from out of town) to get to know us better and to learn about our vision for our wedding day and to tell us more about himself and Lindsay. This made us feel really comfortable that Don and Lindsay were dedicated to ensuring they were a right fit for us and our big day!

Throughout the process (including engagement photos, bridal portraits, and the actual wedding day), Don and Lindsay were so professional yet so relaxed and did such a great job of helping us feel and look natural in front of the camera. I also had a videographer the day of the wedding and Don and Lindsay worked seamlessly with his team to ensure they both got the shots they needed. Don and Lindsay were always prompt in responding to any questions and worked with me to ensure the wedding day timeline was appropriate and allowed plenty of time for pictures so no one was rushed.

I certainly would recommend Don and Lindsay and am beyond happy with all of our photographs from them!

I would recommend Don and Lindsay without hesitation. They're incredible photographers and also wonderful and fun to work with. They make you feel at ease, and their work is just remarkable. We will treasure their photos for a lifetime!

My husband and I cannot thank Don and Lindsey enough for capturing our wedding day so perfectly. From our pre-wedding consult, it was clear that Don's attention to detail was going to serve us well on our day. There are lots of photographers in Richmond, but Don and Lindsey have a unique eye, especially in indoor locations that do not have a ton of natural light. Lindsey and Don took such incredible photos and captured moments that we will treasure forever.

I haven't actually gotten our photos yet, but I was so impressed and happy with Don I feel comfortable reviewing anyway. :) We live in San Diego, so we had to work via phone and e-mail until the week of the wedding. Don always responded to my e-mials quickly. He made us feel comfortable working with him from across the country. When we finally met the week of the wedding, he was incredibly flexible with our ever changing schedule even meeting with us several hours later then expected to go over all the final details. I heard from the bridal party, family and friends that Don was incredibly focused and professional on the wedding day. On top of that he was fun and great with the kids, getting them to pay attention during photos. I know we will be happy with his work, and I absolutely recommend. Thank You Don!!!

We intentionally skimped on other things/costs in order to be able to have Don and Lindsay photograph our wedding, and we could not be happier that we made that choice. I haven't actually gotten back the photos from our wedding yet, but I have nothing but confidence in how they will look. It was really important to my spouse and me to have a photographer who captured the natural expressions, moments, and people there in addition to staged/posed moments. We want to feel like we were everywhere at the wedding when we look at the photos, and have them be honest as well as beautiful. I've never seen a photographer who is as adept at that as these two. In terms of interacting with them, Don was SO helpful - not just with regard to photos, but he also gave us tips and advice about other aspects of our wedding based on having worked at the venue before, and helped us out with various things that were not on him at all day of! I was wildly impressed. He and Lindsay were so kind, so personable, so funny, and so professional, all at once. I realize that it's his job to make people feel this way, but he really made us all feel like he deeply cared about and KNEW us personally. The fact that we felt that way tells me that our photos are going to reflect US the way we want them to - and it was a pleasure.

I would absolutely recommend Don Mears Photography to anyone looking for wonderful wedding photography in the Richmond area! Don was a pleasure to work with - very professional, thorough, and so easy to be around. We had a very small, Sunday morning ceremony and pictures at several locations. Don gave us fantastic attention and really made us feel comfortable taking our photos. My husband and I (and our families) could not be more pleased with our pictures. We've had several printed and they have all turned out beautifully. We can't thank Don enough for the fantastic job he did for our wedding!

I wish I could give Don and Lindsay ten stars on a five star rating system. They likely were our best vendors - personable, professional, and talented. Don and Lindsay deliver a world-class experience with the one-on-one attention of the husband and wife team they are.

Not only were Don and Lindsay great at every photography aspect of our wedding, but when a rain storm struck our reception during dinner and threatened to flood out our tent and drench our food, Don and Lindsay helped the event staff and caterer weather proof the tent and get the dinners in dry.

I cannot speak more highly of Don and Lindsay. We met them at a friend's wedding and instantly connected with them. They have such welcoming, kind, and fun personalities and they added so much to our special day. They made us feel comfortable and happy, by giving us direction but also letting us be natural and enjoy our special day. They also are INCREDIBLY talented. We got our photos back and were just in awe. They captured our day so perfectly, but were not intrusive in the slightest. My pictures were everything I wanted, and more. They are an incredible team and their combination of personalities and talent made them easily the best decision I made for my wedding. I cannot recommend them more- if you want unbelievable pictures, with an awesome duo who make your day fun, comfortable and exciting, then go with them. They are incredibly personable, compassionate, and all around amazing people- both personally and professionally. We couldn't have been more lucky to have had them :)

Don and Lindsay are an amazing team. They were extremely organized from the begging and were pro's at organizing the group pictures and making everything run smoothly. I had a guest comment on the fact that she never saw the photographer but was surprised when she saw all the amazing pictures they took. They were totally incognito but were able to capture many special candid moments. I cannot say enough about Don and Lindsay. We met them first with my oldest sister's wedding and it was a no-brainer to get them for my middle sister and my wedding. They have turned into family and we could not imagine our day without them. We jokingly say we wish we had more sisters so we can have another reunion.
They listened to exactly what I wanted and gave each of us a different feel to our weddings to match our personalities which I loved! They are extremely flexible with anything (7-11 runs to get beer, etc). I honestly cannot put into words how amazing them are!

Hanging out with Don during our photos was one of the most fun parts of the whole wedding experience. The results are gorgeous of course but who would've thought the process would be so great!

Don and Lindsay's photos are incredible - they capture the joy, the love and all of the stolen moments that make a wedding perfect. I never knew that looking back on pictures could transport you not only back to the moment, but to the emotion - and that is what each of their wedding photos do. As if stunning photos weren't enough of a reason to use Don Mears Photography, Don and Lindsay are so easy to work with. They listen to your ideas, they capture anything you ask them to, and they bring an entirely new perspective to your event. They work in harmony to capture creative angles, poignant moments and honestly, they are just fun to be around. I know it may sound as though I am gushing, but my wedding photos bring me so much joy - and I want everyone to have that same feeling when they look at their own wedding album. But don't take my word for it - one look at their website and portfolios will tell you that they are the right choice!

We chose Don as our photographer because his pictures seemed to capture the life of a wedding really well. He is fantastic at capturing candid moments that help you recall the feeling of the wedding and reception instead of just how everyone looked in more formal portraits. Not only is he incredibly talented, but he is very friendly and fun to work with. We wouldn't have chosen anyone else to capture our big day!

Where do I even begin? Don and Lindsay are nothing short of amazing! We initially met the duo at a friend's wedding, and as soon as we spoke with them and saw their pictures, we knew we had to use them for our wedding. They are extremely talented- their pictures are unbelievable. Not only are they talented, but they are so personable, friendly, and welcoming. They made us feel so comfortable and we had so much fun working with them. Their demeanor and personalities made our night that much better. They're so good at what they do. I cannot speak more highly of them and would recommend them to anyone and everyone. One of the best decisions I made for our wedding was booking them. They're incredible- both as professionals, and as people!

Don and Lindsay are the BEST! They are incredibly professional, take amazing photos, and are very easy to work with. We initially debated about spending a bit more than our budget for photography, but pictures are the one thing that you will look at and have forever once your wedding day is over and we do not regret spending the extra money at all! They take beautiful photos and were very efficient at getting all the necessary family poses done on a humid summer day. They also design wedding albums that are simply incredible. We would definitely use Don and Lindsay again

All I can say is, WOW. Don and Lindsay are AMAZING! Not only are they super professional and easy to talk to, but their photos are incredible!!
At first, Don was a bit out of our budget, but we just couldn't find anyone else as professional or as talented. We have NO regrets spending the extra money to have Don. The wedding only lasts one day, but you want to make sure you have wonderful photos that will last you a lifetime!
We have no complaints, we LOVE Don and Lindsay!

Don and Lindsey are truly talented photographers. They know how to coordinate people on a crazy day (like a wedding) and get the best shots. We have tons of spectacular photos from our engagement shots, and wedding weekend. My husband had a blast when we were taking photos because their style lends itself to making the picture-taking experience much more enjoyable since it's not so stiff and posed (though we did do some posed shots -- for the grandparents, of course!). All of our bridal party and groomsmen loved Don's sense of humor too. The quality of their photos in incredible -- they were able to capture and freeze all of the little moments that we missed or couldn't fully appreciate on our big day. I would hire them again in a heartbeat!!!!

Don and Lindsay were wonderful to work with! My husband and I were extremely happy with all of our wedding pictures. Many of our family and friends commented on how beautiful our pictures were as well. Both Don and Lindsay were flexible and catered towards our wants and needs. Also, they were open to our ideas, which was awesome!! They captured many expressions throughout the day from our family and friends. Their pictures truly tell a story about our wedding day. We cannot tell you how happy we are that we chose them to photograph our most important day. I highly recommend them for any type of photography!

My husband and I really enjoyed working with Don and Lindsay. My husband is not really into the whole photography thing (what guy is?), but Don did a great job getting him out of his shell a little bit. Our final pictures were awesome! Don did a great job on our engagement shoot - which was an awesome warm up for our wedding day. It was great for my husband to get to work with Don ahead of time. It was also really nice on the day of the wedding to have Lindsay photographing the ladies and Don with the guys. They did a great job of blending in and not being disruptive while taking some great photos! We're working on our album now and can't wait for the final product. These two may be a little pricier than others, but the experience and knowledge they bring to the table is definitely worth it. We'll have these pictures to cherish forever!

I highly recommend Don and Lindsey for any event. The quality of their work is outstanding. Their photographs of our wedding really captured the spirit of the day. I knew that I wanted to work with Don Mears Photography after they photographed both my brother and sister's weddings. I can not imagine working with a more kind, flexible, professional, and talented photographer. As someone who does not love to have their picture taken, he was able to capture everything that we could have wanted without making the entire night about staged photographs. I hope that I get to work with Don again in the future!

Don & Lindsay are top notch all-around. We didn't have any issues with them and they took some great photos. Picking photos for our book was probably the hardest part because there were so many good ones to choose from. There's no need to worry about any photo issues once you hire Don Mears Photography. I can't say enough about Don and Lindsay. When we shopped for a wedding photographer, their photographic and editing talents were unmatched within the region. Everyone that we've shown our wedding photos to has been truly impressed with the quality of the shots. Since then, Don and Lindsay have only improved their craft...I actually enjoy, on occasion, perusing their website to view the beautiful albums they've created. Photos aside, Don and Lindsay are very personable and friendly. You'll love them from the start, and you'll find yourself communicating with them for years to come.

We met Don Mears at a small wedding expo and immediately hit it off. His style of photography was exactly what we were looking for. He understood what we wanted to capture on our wedding day and made suggestions that worked so well. Extremely professional - knew his limits in the church and didn't intrude on any special moments. He just melted in at the ceremony and the reception but very personable and made people at ease. We have some amazing photographs!

I HIGHLY recommend Don Mears Photography. My husband and I wanted high-quality, professional photographers who focused more on candid, joyful moments than staged pictures, and that is exactly what we got with Don and Lindsay. The photos are absolutely beautiful and capture our day perfectly (and, on top of that, they captured almost every guest in one way or another!). Don and Lindsay were absolutely wonderful to work with, easy to talk to and get along with from our first conversation through the wedding day. Don and Lindsey were a gem of a photography team to work with. They were professional, confident (in a way that eliminates worry or unease), and the quality of the photographs was among the best I've seen. They were not obtrusive in any way during the ceremony or reception -- somehow, we didn't even see them most of the time. They are true artists and photography is their craft. We have since had Don capture our first pregnancy with a maternity session and, just like our wedding, had the most beautiful photographs to remember that most special time.

We used Don Mears for our wedding photographer last summer. I can't imagine a better choice. He was so friendly and easy to work with and the photos were gorgeous! He managed to photograph the whole wedding and reception without ever seeming intrusive. I highly recommend him.

To say Don Mears Photography is the best is an understatement!! Their ability to capture timeless photos that paint the story behind "your day" or "your moment" is a gift.....And they sure have it! We reflect back on our wedding photos each year on our anniversary and are able to relive our special day with each flip of the page. The candid, meaningful, emotional moments are all documented and as we walk through our house or flip the album page and see a photo those "moments" become tangible.

Don and Lindsay Mears shot our wedding in 18inches of snow during the winter of 2010. The pictures we have from our wedding are some of my our most valued possessions. They were able to capture moments in a style that is uniquely theirs.

Not only are they great photographers but they are amazing people. Professional but not stuffy, fun and energetic - they were a true pleasure to spend our "big day" with.

Despite them being based out of Richmond, we went with Don Mears for our NoVA wedding because their quality of work and attention to detail really showed in their pictures, as well as their ability to really capture moments in the photojournalistic style and not the campy "Say cheese for the camera" portraits that adorn many wedding albums. Don (and his wife Lindsay) were consummate professionals at our wedding and unlike many other wedding photographers we've seen they were not intrusive or in the way. Shortly after our wedding (before we saw our pics) we had briefly worried about the fact that we didn't hire a video professional - or for that matter even ask a family member to set up a camcorder - but all that dissipated when we saw our pictures. They captured so many moments so perfectly and beautifully from so many angles that video would've just cheapened it - as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. And the pictures we got from them were worth every dollar spent. Proof that we liked the work so much? We later again hired Don twice to also shoot our maternity and subsequent newborn baby photos too!

I saw Don Mears at work during a friend's wedding in 2008 and knew that we HAD to have him at ours (I think we might have rescheduled the wedding if he wasn't available!). The candid, artistic photos were so much fun to look at. The team did a FANTASTIC job during our own wedding and we have multiple photos displayed in our home. Don was able to capture the excitement and joy in such a great way. We also had Don take pictures at one of our charity golf events - bravo! I continue to promote his work to this day and hopefully I will see him on the golf course again this year.

I could not be happier with the job that Don and Lindsay did photographing our wedding. They were practically invisible to our guests yet managed to capture hundreds and hundreds of beautiful moments from that day. They were extremely flexible and worked with us to be in different places at certain times that day. Afterwards, the pictures were ready in a timely fashion and they always responded promptly to my emails despite my delays and letting too much time pass in between, and were always extremely pleasant, professional, and fun to work with. Photography was something that was incredibly important to me on my wedding day. After all, when all was said and done, the photos would hold most of the memories. I researched a number of vendors but was set on Don and Lindsay after our first phone call. Not only do they have a way of making you feel completely at ease on your wedding day, they also capture the emotion of every moment. We felt the personalities of our guests, and ourselves, really came through in the gorgeous pictures they captured. Wedding images are something that you have forever to look back on that incredible day when almost everyone you know and love is in one place. Bruce and I couldn't be happier that we had the privilege of working with Don and Lindsay for our engagement and wedding day photos. Sohair and I got married on September 1, 2012 at the beautiful Keswick Hall in Charlottesville, Virginia. It was the happiest day of our lives, but overwhelming and hard to soak up all the day’s events in our memories. Everything happens really fast! That’s why it was so important to have a good photographer; someone we could trust to capture some of the most important moments of our lives -- and we think we had the best.

Don Mears photography (Don and Lindsay) could not have been more professional, friendlier, or frankly cooler to have as our photographers. They were the perfect blend of assertive and attentive, and they worked seriously with Sohair, me, and our families and friends to get all the shots we wanted. We loved their creativity and commitment to us a couple. Sohair and I felt so comfortable with Don and Lindsay, which turned out to be incredibly important since your wedding day truly turns out to be a whirlwind of events and emotions. Their teamwork was admirable, their attitude was infectious, and their demeanor was charming.

It is worth highlighting that Don and Lindsay’s professionalism extended well past their day-of expertise. Prior to our wedding, Don took the time to meet with Sohair and me as a couple to get to know us a little better, learn about our families, and understand our personal backgrounds and histories. We think this helped Don and Lindsay capture our personalities the day of the wedding. Additionally, Sohair and I have been happy with Don’s follow-up after the wedding. Sohair and I can’t wait to see our photo album!

Extremely flexible with bride/groom - easy to work with. Has great, creative ideas for photos.
We got A LOT of feedback from guests that the photographers were very friendly, fun but mostly just stayed in the background. They captured so many special, fun moments and while we took some "posed" photos, the best really are the images that they chose to capture. We loved working with them before, during and after the process...they did everything they could to assure us that we were putting our most special day in very capable hands. That was certainly the case with the pictures we received.

Lindsay and Don were absolutely delightful. They were amazing off the set and on the set. Lindsay was our photographer on the day of our wedding, and from the moment I first spoke to her to the time I last spoke with her, she has been professional, flexible, generous, and talented! She really listens to your wants and needs and captures those special moments. I chose Lindsay & Don from various photographers' portfolios because I really liked the way they were able to capture photos that looked dynamic. Lindsay also provided us with about 10 edited sneak peek photos within 2 weeks of our wedding so that we could use it as decoration for an after-wedding party for some family friends! Then we got our final images a few weeks after that. A few weeks ago, we received a gorgeous flash drive containing all the photos with three complimentary professional quality printouts in the mail. Seriously, from start to finish, Lindsay and Don really captured our wedding and our hearts!

Working with Don and Lindsay was a dream and they're worth every penny. With so many things to think about leading up to, and on the actual day of our wedding, it was very relieving to know that we didn't have to worry about anything pictures-related. It also was a huge plus that they're both so friendly and easy to get along with! And honestly, from someone who is not crazy about being the center of attention or having their picture taken, I barely noticed they were there. They were in the background the whole time, capturing so many special and fun moments. Oftentimes you hear regret from couples for letting a photographer "run" their wedding trying to ensure they have all the shots they need. It wasn't like that at all with Don and Lindsay, which was something that was really important to me and my husband. We paid all this money to have this once-in-a-lifetime party, right? Let's enjoy it! Don and Lindsay were such a pleasure to work with, I would recommend them to anyone. I absolutely adore the pictures they took for us, and will treasure them forever.

I Have ZERO photos from my wedding

I hired Don and his ex-wife to shoot my wedding. Don heard a rumor from my DJ that my then new husband and I were having issues. So, he just decided that he was relieved from the obligation to get me photos of my wedding. I have ZERO, that's right, absolutely no photos of my wedding. My in-laws are all Turkish and could not attend the wedding due to lack of visas. They have never seen a photo from the event and my father-in-law died not believing we actually got married. We lost $5000 to Don Mears. I'm not sure what justification he could possibly offer for not doing literally what he was paid to do! I would give no stars, just like have no photos if I could!
