Made my wedding a dream come true

Cheryl was so attentive and knowledgeable. She is the one who told me about the Carlyle house where we could have a beautiful ceremony. It was a micro wedding but it turned out to be more beautiful than I was expecting. She made choosing a ceremony script very easy. She meet with me over Zoom to finalize the details and she was there on time at the event, looking beautiful and ready to go. She is worth it.

Great Experience!

We had a wonderful ceremony performed by Cheryl! We are so thankful to Cheryl for making our special day amazing! She is warm, authentic, passionate, with good sense of humor and with unique approach. We really wished for not too formal, more personal ceremony, and Cheryl was excellent to create that special, warm and fun environment. Prior the wedding she took very serious preparation and tried to learn as much facts as possible about us and to understand what kind of ceremony we want. Very professional! We absolutely loved the entire experience! Couldn't be happier!

Great custom ceremony

Cheryl was outstanding for our small, custom, semi-popup wedding ceremony in Washington DC. Her fun personality also contributed to the fun but intimate ambience we were aiming for. Despite it being nearly the hottest day of the year, she delivered on the custom ceremony we designed with her and kept the situation lively and fun. We recommend Cheryl to just about anyone wanting a full spectrum of flexibility on their wedding plans. She does this for fun because it is her passion, rather than being her primary means of making a living, so we enjoyed the fact that our wedding also meant something to her.

Cheryl was professional, warm and excited for our wedding.
She gave us valuable documents that newlyweds should consider.
My wife and I are Latinos and I was really impressed with how well she connected with us. We wanted our ceremony to be in Spanish and Cheryl impressed us with her Spanish skills. I know its not easy to speak another language so she went above and beyond. Also when the clercks office could not find our marriage certificate she went the next monday got two certificates for us and delivered it to us. Wow!

Full of love

Officiants in DC area were more expensive than we expected... but Cheryl provided an exceptional service for the lowest price in the area!
We had NO idea how to plan/build our own ceremony, but Cheryl made sure we understood everything, she answered all the questions, and provided suggestions based on her experience. From our initial consultation, Cheryl was very welcoming, kind, and professional. She also tried to get to know us as a person, which was nice and comforting.
With Cheryl's help, we are able to have an intimate & customized ceremony that was filled with lots of love. We & our guests absolutely loved it!!

Amazing celebrant and great sense of humor

Cheryl of custom weddings is an amazing woman. She made sure that our wedding went smoothly. She's very flexible and helpful. She was amazing part of our wedding and everybody loved her sense of humor. We really appreciated having her there and being a part of our very special moment. We were so happy to find Cheryl. She was very kind, understanding, and accommodating. We met in person and over skype to make sure we were comfortable and all our questions were answered. She also provided a ton of material to help us develop a ceremony. Her delivery was very professional and pricing appropriate for an intimate ceremony like ours. We ended up with a meaningful ceremony that was truly our own and highly recommend Cheryl!

We loved working with Cheryl. She did a wonderful job, gave us exactly the ceremony we wanted, and was easy to work with. She was also a lot more affordable than some of the other options we considered.

We had a friend lead our ceremony in front of all our friends and family, and we wanted someone to marry us legally in front of just our close family. Cheryl thoughtfully crafted a short, intimate service that covered all the legal bases and also made us feel like we were part of something really special. She was responsive during our planning process and she was receptive to our ideas. We would recommend hiring her.

Words fall short when describing the kind of service we received from Cheryl. I will first start off by saying what a beautiful soul Cheryl has, a heart of gold! My wife and I hired Cheryl for the first time in Dec 2016 for our wedding , which was a small ceremony that Cheryl brought much joy to. She was very professional, sweet, kind hearted and excepting to all ideas. We had a wonderful experience with her so in September 2017 my wife and I had our bigger wedding and without any second thoughts, Cheryl was the one we wanted to marry us for the second time. We found Cheryl on WeddingWire when we first got engaged, and were enamored with her from our very first meeting! Cheryl was so accommodating for our unique request to do a handfasting ceremony, and sent us lots of material to build our ceremony. She was kind, communicative, and knowledgeable, and we were so lucky to have found her. Cheryl was amazing from start to finish. She had a plan that made the wording of the ceremony something I wouldn't have to stress over. She had incredible ideas that turned into a beautiful ceremony. We also asked her to hold a sign over our heads at the end of the ceremony and she agreed. Everyone told us that the ceremony was beautiful, and she did an awesome job injecting laughter where it really loosened everyone up. I would absolutely recommend Cheryl for your wedding. 100%!!!

My husband and I booked Cheryl for our September wedding, and were very pleased with her work. She provided us with a packet of helpful questions for planning our actual marriage, as well as guides for setting up our custom ceremony. She also worked with us to put everything in the proper order, once we had selected our readings and ceremony components.

I wish I could give Cheryl a 6-star rating for flexibility. On the day of our rehearsal, when we were supposed to arrive with our final payment and wedding license, we had a bit of a snafu that left us without either of those important submissions. Cheryl was very understanding, and her calm attitude was SO appreciated in the middle of all the stress.

Cheryl's off-beat, entertaining personality was the cherry on top of the whole experience. I highly recommend her to other couples looking for an organized officiant with a sense of humor.

Cheryl did amazing job marrying my husband and I. We were very last minute in finding an officiant and she made the process so easy. She was alway fast to respond to emails, and answered all our questions. She really did help make our day magical! We got so many compliments on how meaningful and wonderful the ceremony was. I can not begin to say enough about how fantastic Cheryl is!!! She was so accommodating and friendly that she made my experience the easiest part of getting married. She genuinely cares about making the ceremony how you would like it and was there whenever I needed her. Cheryl married my husband and I on May 21st this year. She was incredibly professional, responsive, and helpful through the whole process. I feel like finding the right officiant for your wedding is the hardest task when it comes to planning the wedding. My husband and I knew when we first met her she was perfect for the job. We felt very comfortable and right at home with her like we have known her forever. We actually spent over 2 hours talking on our first visit. I highly recommend her services. She is outstanding.

Well, I had called a couple people before Ms. Cheryl and they weren't responsive or didn't know my language so at the moment I spoke to her, I knew that she was the one I wanted to marry my husband and I. I'm glad because she is very nice and walks you step by step.

Cheryl was insurmountable in her dynamic ability to work with us to give us the prefect customized ceremony we needed as a multinational family. We loved having our wedding with Cheryl and highly recommend such a committed and experienced officiant. She did everything she said she would and then some! Our marriage license was submitted in a timely manner allowing us to stay on track regarding my wife's immigration into the US from Japan.

Cheryl was a great officiant. She was always prompt and on time and would respond quickly to any questions we had. She helped set up our own custom ceremony and was very accommodating when we had to make some last minute changes because of the weather. She was also very quick with getting the marriage license submitted after the wedding so that we could obtain our copy shortly thereafter. I would recommend Cheryl for anyone looking for quality officiant for their wedding.

We worked with Cheryl to officiate our secular wedding in Vienna and she was wonderful! Our first meeting with Cheryl she was eager to know us, as a couple, and know our story even before she was hired. She was 'on point' and very prepared, providing us everything we needed to arrange our ceremony. She had an answer for everything from her years of experience and it was a joy meeting her. Our ceremony went off very smoothly- the only small unplanned part was when the guests were asked to repeat themselves because they weren't loud enough- we weren't too keen on that, but otherwise we simply loved every moment. I have to add as well the value you are truly getting- there a very few options with as much experience as Cheryl for the low cost she advertises, which meant the world to us as we really needed budget-friendly options for our wedding. We highly recommend Cheryl, she's wonderful!

Cheryl was absolutely amazing! She made our wedding day special in every way.

We initially met at a restaurant. There was an instant connection. We sat there talking and getting to know each other. By the end of our meeting, I knew I did not have to look any further for an officiant for our wedding.

Cheryl encouraged us to put our wedding ceremony/vows together. She provided us samples and guidance. The end results were perfect!! Our guests have had nothing but good things to say.

Cheryl was our wedding officiant for our October 4th 2014 wedding. Leading up to the wedding she was very responsive and easy to work with. She helped us tremendously when it came to picking out our vows and our wedding configuration. The process was easy and seamless from start to finish. Cheryl was very professional and very genuine. I knew the moment I spoke with her on the phone that she was the right one to marry us! She provided us with options, gave us great advice, and allowed us to customize our ceremony the way we wanted it. We had a small gathering of about 25 people and Cheryl was very friendly to all! She was flexible with us, while we planned our wedding and everything went as planned! I would certainly recommend her to others. She is very passionate about her work and I truly felt she was sincere with every word she said!

Cheryl was fantastic, and gave us exactly the ceremony that we were looking for. We needed some guidance on how to proceed with how to make a ceremony that suited us, and we were pretty unaware of how a ceremony should progress. She had so much information which made things very easy for us and she took away a lot of ceremony planning stress. She got to understand us as a couple and what we wanted for our big day. We wanted less 'religion' and more 'spiritualism' in our ceremony, and we're both huge nature lovers. Her guidance and beautiful words made our day special and the ceremony was suited to us perfectly.

Cheryl married my husband and I almost 10 year ago; she gave us everything we could have asked for.

I was raised Catholic but no longer believe in organized religion; my husband was raised Mormon, but has a Jewish step father, and as an adult chose to follow Buddhism....so we were nervous going into our wedding because we knew what we wanted, but also knew our families may have expectations for what type of ceremony it would be. Cheryl created the perfect ceremony for US. We didn't want to write our own vows, but wanted them customized to what was important to us, and she came up with something perfect. All of our family members thought the ceremony was beautiful, and everyone was happy.

To celebrate our 10th anniversary we will be renewing our vows and Cheryl will be the officiant. This will technically be the THIRD ceremony Cheryl has done for us. You see, being a young couple, we let our mothers take over the wedding planning, and before we knew it the wedding had grown into something much bigger and more formal than we had originally wanted. Cheryl picked up on our problem, and made a fabulous suggestion--have a secret wedding before the wedding! So, a couple weeks before our wedding, we met Cheryl in the location of our first date, and with only our 2 closest friends, we had a private ceremony that was exactly as we wanted. We then had the big wedding as scheduled, and it was our little secret that we were already married. Both ceremonies were exactly as I dreamed they would be, and I'm sure the vow renewal will be too!

My advice to couples about to marry would be to put as much time and attention into choosing your officiant as you do into choosing the dress and the venue. The vows are THE MOST important part of a wedding--those vows said at your ceremony are what you will build the rest of your life upon. Cheryl gave us a great foundation to build upon, and those vows we still reflect back on with happiness.

Cheryl was absolutely WONDERFUL!!! My husband and I didn't have a lot of money to spend on a huge wedding. We are simple and just wanted something small with just us two and the officiant. Every officiant I called gave a ridiculous price. Then I found Cheryl and was suprised to find someone so amazing and affordable. She said the most beautiful words for our ceremony. She made every moment special and unforgettable. I HIGHLY recommend Cheryl to everyone!!!!!! Thank you soo much!!!

Cheryl is such an amazing, kind, and wonderful person! We are so glad we chose her to be our officiant. At our first meeting I ended up staying and just chatting with her for a couple of hours so was just so easy and nice to talk to. She was completely willing to help us create our own custom ceremony down the the last detail. She provided us with so many great resources on how to word our ceremony, I could not have done it without her! She was so open to us choosing any location in our area, even helped us narrow that down as well. When our photographer bailed out on us she even had some contacts she would recommend herself. Cheryl really is a great go-to person for any help. The night before we realized there was a miscommunication, on both our parts, about the ceremony time, and after a bit of last minute scrambling, we sorted it out and all was well. The ceremony was so great with her. She made us all feel so much more at ease and comfortable, she had us laughing and smiling the whole time. I cannot thank her enough for working with us both so much. She truly made this a day we will never forget. When we do our larger vow renewal ceremony in a few years to bring both of our large families together, we are most certainly going to choose Cheryl again. She is such a kind, supportive, and wonderful person and she truly makes the day special for everyone involved.

Cheryl recently officiated our wedding on 5/12/18 at 2941 Restaurant. She was a pleasure to work with and made the process, even writing our wedding ceremony, easy and stress free. Cheryl is easy to work with

Cheryl was easy to work with. She performed our ceremony as we wrote it and provided feedback about our ceremony when we asked. She provided templates for the rehearsal and examples of ceremonies. She was responsive and returned emails/phone calls in a timely manner. I have no complaints.

Very organized and provided a beautiful ceremony!

My husband and I enjoyed working with Cheryl - she really took the time to listen to us and did an excellent job during our ceremony and making sure we were totally prepared beforehand. We even had multiple guests comment on how lovely her message and blessing for us was! After meeting with her the first time over Skype, my then-fiance and I knew she was a great decision for our wedding officiant, and her prices are really good. I would highly recommend Cheryl!

Be careful, she is nice at first and then...

Cheryl is a sweet lady until she disagrees with you. In our case, it started with her saying she sent emails that we never received. We didn’t push back on this because she seemed like such a sweet lady otherwise. Then she started acting odd about money. She tried to increase her fees and got pretty obnoxious, including sending a nasty email two days before the ceremony with our children. We didn't need that negativity on our special day, so we told her not to come. In the end we found someone else and our kids loved the ceremony with the other person, so it is tempting not to write a review of Cheryl since it ended well without her. However, because she seems so nice at first, we thought we should warn others.

I booked Cheryl for my wedding
Clearly gave her the date and time
She wrote the information wrong with two different times. Now when I called her on it and showed her proof that she was wrong instead of admitting it she’s taking my money and running. Will not refund me. Not even one cent. Says it’s my fault. I’m like well can’t you take some responsibility? Nope told me to grow up and get loss. I even sent her an evite with clear Date stamps of my event I simply believe when we booked she gave me a good price. Then when she realizes it was a holiday weekend booked someone else for a higher price and asked me to move my time. She even became nasty when I pointed out she was wrong. What kind of Pastor are you. Man. Make sure you Watch this one. Has no problem stealing.

Difficult to work with, you are just another number

Would not recommend. After being asked multiple times by both of us, Cheryl continued to correspond with either myself or fiance, not both, which made communication difficult as we were preparing for our wedding and busy traveling for work. Despite being asked at least three times to simply "reply all" and loop the other back in the conversation, she would reply back to one of us. This created a lot of frustration and confusion.
After she sent an invoice to only one of us, husband requested: "I'm sorry I thought you had it, I copied her in on all emails I sent to you and didn't realize you weren't "replying all"
I frowarded her the invoice and she will take care of it.
Please include her, and reply all in the future." She said she was unable to find any of this correspondence, but I have at least 3 specific times we requested her to reply all, and she said that she couldn't because she was on an iPad (?)

She spent a lot of time explaining the name change process, and tips for shortening the time at social security, when I made clear that I was not in a rush to change my name and knew the steps that I needed to take. She repeatedly emphasized that to avoid waiting in lines, I should call the social security office and make an appointment. I tried calling them 3 times, and the waiting time was over 1.5 hours each time, so I just went to the office and was in and out in under an hour. I wasn't looking for or needing tips on this from our officiant, and while we made this clear, it was really the main thing she talked about on each of the times we spoke with her.

When we had our call the week of the wedding she said she couldn't wait to meet us, when we had already met with her, and it felt very impersonal. She a few times mentioned the number of weddings that she had done that year/month, and while it may have been meant to convey her experience, it just made us feel like we were another number/dollar for her. As others have mentioned, she didn't seem very prepared during the ceremony.

My fiance and I had both recently started new jobs before our wedding and were traveling a lot for work while planning. For wanting the ceremony to be the most special part of our day, the added stress of Cheryl not communicating with both of us was easily the most negative part of my entire planning process.

After reading all of Cheryl's reviews my fiance and I decided to contact Cheryl to be the officiant at our wedding. Initially, she seemed like she would be a good fit. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. I wish I had met her in person before hiring her.
The week before the wedding I was already getting bad vibes from her through email correspondence. She was extremely terse and short. The day of our rehearsal, she asked me was if I had my license. I said no, being under the impression that she'd sign the license after the actual ceremony. Our contract also clearly stated, "Post-ceremony, the officiant will sign the license". She said she was extremely disappointed. Not wanting to have a bad day, I said that it wasn't a big deal and we could just sign it after the ceremony. She misunderstood and very rudely asked "Your marriage license isn't a big deal to you?!?" I clarified, getting it signed after the ceremony wasn't a big deal to me. During this time, apparently Cheryl took it upon herself to ask my mom why I was so unhappy, clearly not understanding that it was her demeanor that had already ruined my day. She was rude and inflexible about any small change any of us suggested, from our planner to our wedding party. Cheryl also told my wedding coordinator that she needed to talk with me because she "doesn't work with bridezillas". My coordinator defended me and told her I'm the furthest thing from a bridezilla. She told me Cheryl was the most unprofessional person she has ever worked with. At our rehearsal luncheon, everyone told me they saw how unprofessional and rude she was. My fiance said it was unacceptable and we'd find someone else to marry us. We talked with our coordinator and she backed our decision 100%. She said she'd handle it. Cheryl sent us an email saying we need to be mature and cancel her services ourselves. We were happy to oblige. Without hesitation, we cancelled her services and found someone more capable, kind, and professional to marry us.

Never in my life have I had to deal with someone so unprofessional before. During our phone meetings the week before the wedding, Cheryl had NASTY attitudes towards my husband & I. Then she decided to add an extra $50 charge even after we paid her in full. She said it was during a holiday weekend, which it wasn’t since the holiday was on a Tuesday. Then she accused us of not paying her & not reading the contract even though we did both. The day of the wedding, my family told me that Cheryl was stressing everyone out & being annoying & unprofessional while everyone was trying to set up. When we gave her all of the forms for her to sign & mail, she failed to take what we gave her & did not send the right forms & on top of that she only sent $10 of the $20 we gave her. So we only got 1 copy instead of 2. So I had to go to the court house myself to get another copy. The ceremony was COMPLETELY DISAPPOINTING. Her vibe & her attitude & tone of voice was very unprofessional. It was clear that she did not REHEARSE ANYTHING. She was NOT prepared. She was RUDE to me AND my parents after walking down the aisle. I wanted to hold my bouquet until after the ring exchange & she RUDELY said I couldn’t. CHERYL FORGOT OUR VOWS. WE made it CLEAR to her that we wanted to say specific vows to each other & she FORGOT. On top of that no one could hear her bc she refused to hold up the microphone. She even insulted my dogs during the ceremony. I mentioned to her that we were expecting to get a $30 refund for her not taking an uber & she said she has never been asked for any refund & that if we were SO POOR that she would just give us all of money back. My husband called & told her that was uncalled for & rude to say. Then a few days later she said she changed her mind. We regret hiring Cheryl. She never apologized. It added ten times more stress to our wedding & we would have been better off postponing it & finding someone better & more professional who would have done everything RIGHT.
